An interesting film that tackles a rather sordid subject. That alone caught my attention, although it's not a perfect or complete film. It might put many people off, either because of its slow pace or because certain scenes are repulsive, since seeing psychopathy embodied in such a young person is unsettling.

The character named Fabián, a teenager who shows signs of being a monster, is a complete psychopath. We discover this unpleasant side of him little by little. Was he like that in the novel? I don't know. This film is an adaptation of a book, specifically one by an Argentinian writer, and from what little I could find online, the novel was successful and received awards when it was published.

This adaptation is by the Spanish filmmaker Fernando Franco. As a director, I saw and reviewed the film The Rite of Spring some time ago, which also dealt with a rather thorny and controversial topic that generates a lot of discussion. So it's clear that the filmmaker likes to tackle subjects that might be shocking for some viewers. He's also a screenwriter, and I've seen other films he's contributed to. I think he's an interesting filmmaker whose career is worth following.

Without giving away too much or any spoilers, I'll tell you that the film is about twin siblings Fabián and Eva. We're quickly drawn into the conflict. They're a middle-class family, doing well; they seem like the perfect family, the kind many dream of; they clearly live comfortably. Tragedy strikes, caused by a reckless act, a mistake. It's from that moment on that everything becomes quite murky.

Guilt, that human feeling that slowly consumes us. I think that's why Eva's character also remains silent about many of the horrible things she'll have to endure at the hands of the psychopath Fabián. I think she feels she deserves that awful punishment. Guilt also seems to eat away at the siblings' mother, a woman now living drugged and imprisoned by the lies she's forced to repeat.

The atmosphere is unsettling, especially with Fabián's behavior. That character perfectly embodies what a high-functioning psychopath is. Deep down, he feels nothing. He enjoys abuse, mistreatment, and humiliation, and he's a complete psychopath who makes you want to kill him. By pretending to be a good person, and with that innocent face of a young victim, most people would fall for his manipulations and lies.

Although it has a slow pace, I wasn't bored. I paid attention to everything. I just didn't like the ending. I wanted something more explicit and definitive for that part that wrapped up the story. I liked the film, but at the same time, it left me a little unsatisfied. It's still an interesting option and offers a break from Hollywood blockbusters.

Esta adaptación es del cineasta español Fernando Franco. Como director, vi y reseñé la película La consagración de la primavera hace un tiempo, que también abordaba un tema bastante espinoso y controvertido que genera mucha discusión. Creo que por eso el personaje de Eva también guarda silencio sobre muchas de las cosas horribles que tendrá que soportar con el psicópata Fabián. Creo que siente que merece ese desagradable castigo. La culpa también parece carcomer a la madre de los hermanos, una mujer que ahora vive drogada y prisionera de las mentiras que debe repetir.

La atmósfera es inquietante, con la actitud de Fabián. Ese personaje representa a la perfección lo que es un psicópata de alto rendimiento. En el fondo, no siente nada. Disfruta del abuso, el maltrato y la humillación, y es un completo psicópata que te dan ganas de matarlo. Fingiendo ser una buena persona, y con esa cara inocente de joven víctima, la mayoría caería en sus manipulaciones y mentiras.

Aunque tiene un ritmo lento, no me aburrí. Presté atención a todo. Simplemente no me gustó el final. Quería algo más explícito y definitivo para esa parte que cerraba la historia. Me gustó la película, pero al mismo tiempo me dejó un poco insatisfecho. Sigue siendo una opción interesante y te da un respiro de las superproducciones de Hollywood.

I've seen director Aluda Ruiz de Azúa's previous works, and I believe I've reviewed two of them. I quite liked the film "Cinco Lobitos" (Five Little Wolves). "Eres tú" (It's You) was another of her works that I enjoyed, but it was the miniseries "Querer" (To Love) that disappointed me a little. Not because of the cinematic aspect—in that sense, she's a very capable director—but because of the message it conveyed.

What would you do if your 17-year-old daughter or niece told you she wanted to dedicate her life to God and become a nun? What would your reaction be? Would you support her or do everything possible to dissuade her from that idea? Remember, she's 17. Well, that's the conflict presented in the film "Los Domingos" (Sundays). Young Ainara, who has lost her mother, lives with her siblings, her father, and spends a lot of time with her paternal grandmother and her aunt Maite. They all adore her; it's a normal family, with its common rules and problems.

The girl allows herself to be pressured by the nuns and priests at the school she attends. Since it's set in Spain, we're talking about the Catholic religion. For a 17-year-old, deciding to become a nun is, in my opinion, a very risky decision. It's not that at that age you don't have your own judgment, but you're also very young and can make rash decisions that will later be difficult to undo. That's how it is, in my opinion, for a young woman of that age to let herself be manipulated with this whole gender dysphoria issue. The same applies.

I completely identified with the character of Maite, Ainara's aunt. She's a woman without faith, just like me. So she'll do everything possible, no matter the cost, to convince Ainara not to waste her youth and her life on that damned obsession. Perhaps you think differently and say you would totally support such a decision, but I've had to witness bad decisions made by people I love, decisions that ruined their lives. Of course, everyone ruins their life as they please, but when you love someone, it hurts, and Maite is deeply wounded by this, which will lead her to make extreme decisions that will completely distance her from her family.

There was a lot of manipulation on the part of the religious figures. That's how church leaders, from any religious group, act, and let's not forget that Ainara has lost her mother. She has trauma, grief, sadness, and all religions like these kinds of people, so fragile, broken by some pain they carry on their shoulders, because they are easy prey for manipulation.

The film is technically impeccable, with excellent direction. I liked the cinematography, with many cool and pastel colors, but they give it the ideal tone for the story it tells. For me, it's not the best Spanish film of the year, but if those who voted for the Goya Awards decided it was, congratulations to the entire team behind this production.

La chica se deja presionar por las monjas y los sacerdotes del colegio al que asiste. Al estar ambientada en España, hablamos de la religión católica. Quizás pienses diferente y digas que apoyarías totalmente una decisión así, pero he tenido que presenciar malas decisiones de personas que quiero, destrozando sus vidas. Claro, cada uno arruina su vida a su antojo, pero cuando amas a esa persona, duele, y Maite está profundamente herida por eso, lo que la llevará a tomar decisiones extremas que la distanciarán por completo de su familia.

Hubo mucha manipulación por parte de los personajes religiosos. Así es como actúan los líderes eclesiásticos, de cualquier grupo religioso, y no olvidemos que Ainara ha perdido a su madre. Tiene un trauma, un duelo, una tristeza, y a todas las religiones les gusta ese tipo de personas, tan frágiles, rotas por algún dolor que llevan sobre sus hombros, porque son presa fácil de ser manipuladas.

La película es técnicamente impecable, excelente dirección, me gustó la fotografía, con muchos colores fríos y pasteles, pero le dan el tono ideal para la historia que cuenta. Para mí no es la mejor película española del año, pero si quienes votaron en los Premios Goya lo decidieron, enhorabuena a todo el equipo detrás de esta producción.

I've said many times that I like British TV series. I like the accent and many of the actors and actresses from that country, plus they're usually miniseries of four or six episodes. Having a story told without so many filler episodes is a relief these days, when productions have to adapt to the demands of streaming platform algorithms.

I don't think it's a coincidence that I recently watched two productions with something in common. One is a four-episode miniseries called Reunion, and the other is the six-episode series this post is about. Both feature deaf or hard-of-hearing protagonists, as in the case of Code of Silence. Both stories have given talented people with this disability the opportunity to star. Another thing they have in common is that both have been resounding successes with audiences, according to the data I found online.

I think that's fine, as long as it's not done for inclusion policies and the stories are good. In both cases, they are entertaining stories that help raise awareness about deaf and hard-of-hearing people, and those who take on the lead roles are talented enough to keep us engaged and interested in their characters.

In Code of Silence, the protagonist is the deaf actress Rose Ayling-Ellis. She has been progressing in her acting career, and I had already seen her in a supporting role in the miniseries Reunion. But it is in Code of Silence where she truly shines. Although she is deaf and uses sign language, if you watch the series, you'll realize that she is also a skilled sign language interpreter. She captures the fragility and boldness that the character deserves, along with her moments of vulnerability. I really enjoyed this actress's performance.

She plays Alison Brooks, who works shifts in cafes and restaurants, including the police cafeteria. To understand when people are speaking to her, she has developed the talent of lip-reading, which gives her the opportunity to do a special job for the police, who are pursuing a gang of thieves with extensive criminal records. They need to find out what the gang's next heist will be, and she, by reading lips, can uncover a lot.

Of course, if everything were that easy, the series would only last one episode. Everything gets complicated. She lives with her deaf-mute mother, and they are about to be evicted from their home. She loses one of her jobs. The financial situation worsens. What will truly complicate her life is falling in love with Liam, a young man whom the criminal gang is sheltering. Apparently, he is a computer expert, a hacker, and Alison can't handle that. She needs a patriarchal alpha male, the kind that women go crazy for, except for those with hairy armpits. She will soon succumb to this criminal who, deep down, is half good.

In any story like this, there are clichés, unexpected twists, secrets that will later be revealed, and, of course, the situation becomes increasingly dangerous for Alison. It's an entertaining series. The characters are charming and charismatic, enough to keep us hooked.

I recommend it; it's easy to watch because it only has six episodes. Towards the end, things get a little out of hand, but it has a satisfying ending. I think that, due to its success, they'll surely approve a second season. The best thing about it is the lead actress; watch it in the original version, don't commit the crime of watching it dubbed.

La recomiendo; es fácil de ver porque solo tiene seis episodios. Hacia el final, la cosa se descontrola un poco, pero tiene un final satisfactorio. I knew absolutely nothing about this unique case. Although Netflix released a documentary series in 2023 about the events surrounding this family, I never watched it. So, I decided to give this fictional series a chance, and I was impressed by the Murdaugh family and how their dynasty fell apart.

I only watched the series because of the two main actors, Jason Clarke and Patricia Arquette. They steal the show. Jason Clarke plays Alex Murdaugh, and he was a very unpleasant character. Pot-bellied, arrogant, addicted to pills, a womanizer, a con man, believing himself to be above the law because of his family lineage. The truth is, I found the whole family unpleasant. Selfish people who didn't consider the consequences of their actions because they always got away with it simply because of who they were.

They are the typical small-town American family, highly respected and even feared by the people, because they are important, have money, and hold important positions as lawyers. They have influence and power. When you have all that, and from a young age you evade the consequences of doing wrong, you become arrogant and think you're some kind of emperor.

The two young sons are other repulsive characters. The one who caused the boat accident is the most immature and unbearable; although he has scenes of remorse, crying while saving a puppy, etc., none of that prevents me from feeling repulsed. Their unpleasantness is a sign that everyone gives a good performance.

This crime drama needs better direction; eight episodes also seemed too many to me. Six would have been enough. Its very conventional and risk-averse narrative is what makes it somewhat disappointing in its development. I only endured it because of the main actors and to find out how on earth this whole macabre crime story would end.

It was after finishing the movie that I started researching the real case and looking at photos of this seemingly perfect family, with their family legacy in that town where no one dared mess with them, and the whole chain of deaths that led to their downfall. It's one of those stories that, if you don't look up the facts, you won't believe, because it's astonishing.

I liked it somewhat; it's not a masterpiece, but Clarke alone, with that carrot-blonde hair and that belly, makes it worth watching. They say lies have short legs, and if you're going to commit such a horrendous crime, don't be such an idiot.

El que causó el accidente del barco es el más inmaduro e insoportable; aunque tiene escenas de remordimiento, llorando al salvar a un cachorro, etc., nada de eso evita que sienta repulsión. Que sean tan desagradables es señal de que todos hacen una buena actuación.

Este drama criminal necesita una mejor dirección; ocho episodios también me parecieron demasiados. Con solo seis, sería suficiente. Su narración muy convencional y sin riesgo es lo que la hace un poco decepcionante en su desarrollo. Solo la aguanté por los actores principales y para descubrir cómo demonios terminaría toda esta macabra historia de crímenes.

Fue después de terminar de verla que empecé a buscar información sobre el caso real y a ver fotos de esta familia aparentemente perfecta, con su legado familiar en ese pueblo donde nadie se atrevía a meterse con ellos, y toda esa cadena de muertes que los llevó a la ruina. Me gustó un poco; no es una obra maestra, pero solo Clarke con ese pelo de zanahoria y esa barriga hace que valga la pena verla. Dicen que las mentiras tienen patas cortas, y si vas a cometer un crimen tan horrendo, no seas tan idiota.

The fourth season of Industry continues to raise the bar for the series. The show has evolved, becoming darker with each passing season. The third season took an intense turn with the thriller, and this new season embraces it fully. Now everything is filled with greater darkness.

At the time of writing this post, only the last episode of the season remains to be aired. Will it be the definitive ending? I don't know. I hope they decide to renew it for a possible fifth and final season. In the third season, some story arcs were closed for characters who are no longer in the series. I was looking forward to seeing Robert Spearing again, but it seems that his cycle has ended, with that betrayal and that impossible love with Yasmin.

This fourth season has also served to close other narrative arcs. The character of Rishi is the one who I think has suffered and taken the hardest hits. His story comes to a definitive end this season, in the most abrupt and tragic way possible. By the way, that episode and that scene inside his apartment with the journalist and the other stranger, both high and drunk, is full of tension, in a situation that borders on terror. Nothing good can come of it, and you can feel it in the atmosphere.

The collapse of Eric Tao, which seems to be this character's farewell. There is no turning back. It is ironic that the happiest day of his career turns into the worst day of his life at nightfall, having to abandon everything. That episode is also brutal, from the beginning when the opening credits roll, about 15 minutes after it starts, and with that ending, totally dedicated to that character as he walks away alone.

Something that really stands out about this season is that each episode is a complete work of art. For example, the second episode is fascinating, delving into Henry Muck's past, his relationship with his father, his addiction problem, his trauma. It all comes together in one of the best episodes of the series. Added to this is the inclusion of new characters, in this case Whitney Halbers, leader of Tendern, the company around which this season's story revolves. Whitney is this season's antagonist, and at the same time, it is through her character that political conspiracies, espionage, and everything related to the dark political thriller enter the story, maintaining tension throughout.

Speaking of new characters, I enjoyed seeing Kiernan Shipka as Hayley Clay, the assistant. She's a somewhat ambiguous character, but we'll eventually discover who she really is and what her intentions are. She's involved in some highly sexual scenes. Her portrayal of Don Draper's daughter in Mad Men, when she was just a child, is now a distant memory.

Yasmin and Harper remain at odds. They love and hate each other, just as they have from the beginning, but that's why the penultimate episode is so special, when they're together, this time working toward a common goal, even though their intentions differ. They both admire each other and desire something from one another.

What also remains constant is that their characters, even if we sympathize with them, are unscrupulous, hypocritical, treacherous, and selfish. Perhaps that's why I've found it fascinating since its first season. They represent most human beings, whether or not they come with privileges from the start. Ambition and money are what make the world go round, and I'm not saying that's a bad thing. That's just how people are, and the series portrays it without being two-faced or hypocritical, unlike those who want to idealize everything and downplay the importance of money.

La cuarta temporada de Industry sigue subiendo el listón de la serie. La serie ha evolucionado, volviéndose más oscura con cada temporada que pasa. La tercera temporada dio un giro intenso con el thriller, y esta nueva temporada lo abraza por completo. Ahora todo está lleno de una mayor oscuridad.

En el momento de escribir este post, sólo queda por emitir el último episodio de la temporada. ¿Será el final definitivo? No lo sé. Espero que decidan renovarla para una posible quinta y última temporada. En la tercera temporada se cerraron algunos arcos argumentales de personajes que ya no están actualmente en la serie. Tenía ganas de volver a ver a Robert Spearing, pero parece que su ciclo ha terminado, con esa traición y ese amor imposible con Yasmin.

Esta cuarta temporada también ha servido para cerrar otros arcos narrativos. El personaje de Rishi es el que me parece que ha sufrido y recibido los golpes más duros. Su historia tiene esta temporada su cierre definitivo, de la forma más abrupta y trágica posible. Por cierto, ese episodio y esa escena dentro de su apartamento con el periodista y el otro desconocido, ambos drogados y borrachos, está llena de tensión, en una situación que roza el terror. Nada bueno puede salir de ahí, y se nota en el ambiente.

El colapso de Eric Tao, que parece ser la despedida de este personaje. Ya no hay vuelta atrás. Es irónico que el día más feliz de su carrera se convierta en el peor día de su vida al caer la noche, teniendo que abandonarlo todo. Ese episodio también es brutal, desde el principio cuando ruedan los créditos iniciales, son como 15 minutos después de empezar, y con ese final, totalmente dedicado a ese personaje mientras se va caminando en solitario.

Algo que realmente destaca de esta temporada es que cada episodio es una obra de arte completa. Por ejemplo, el segundo episodio es fascinante, ahonda en el pasado de Henry Muck, su relación con su padre, su problema de adicción, su trauma. Todo encaja en uno de los mejores episodios de la serie. A ello se suma la inclusión de nuevos personajes, en este caso Whitney Halbers, líder de Tendern, la empresa en torno a la que gira la historia de esta temporada. Whitney es el antagonista de esta temporada, y al mismo tiempo, es a través de su personaje que las conspiraciones políticas, el espionaje, y todo lo relacionado con el thriller político y oscuro entran en la historia, manteniendo la tensión en todo momento.

Hablando de nuevos personajes, me ha gustado ver a Kiernan Shipka interpretando a la ayudante Hayley Clay. Un personaje algo ambiguo, pero que acabaremos descubriendo quién es realmente y cuáles son sus intenciones. Protagoniza algunas escenas de alto contenido sexual. Su interpretación de la hija de Don Draper en Mad Men, cuando era sólo una niña, es ya un recuerdo lejano.

Yasmin y Harper siguen enfrentadas. Se aman y se odian, como desde el principio, pero por eso el penúltimo episodio es tan especial, cuando ambas están juntas, esta vez hacia un objetivo común, aunque sus intenciones sean diferentes. Ambos se admiran y desean algo el uno al otro.

Lo que también permanece es que sus personajes, aunque simpaticemos con ellos, son personas sin escrúpulos, hipócritas, traicioneras y egoístas. Quizá por eso me ha parecido fascinante desde su primera temporada. Son la representación de la mayoría de los seres humanos, vengan o no con privilegios desde el principio. La ambición y el dinero es lo que mueve el mundo, y no digo que eso sea malo. Así es la gente, y la serie lo muestra sin tener dos caras ni ser hipócrita, a diferencia de quienes quieren idealizarlo todo y restar importancia al dinero.

I'm not usually a big fan of series, but "Unbelievable" is one of those shows that hooks you within five minutes and compels you to keep watching until the end. At first, I hesitated to watch it because I don't like intense and heartbreaking stories, but I'm glad I gave it a chance. Although the central theme is intense, what truly captivates you is the humanism that contrasts with the shocking events that unfold. "Unbelievable" portrays the harsh reality of a young woman abused by a flawed system, where justice and truth seem unattainable.

The series focuses on Marie Adler, a young woman who reports an assault, but whose version is questioned by the authorities. In contrast, we have two detectives, played by Toni Collette and Merritt Wever, who begin to connect the dots that others have overlooked. Their professionalism and dedication stand in stark contrast to the inefficiency of the system.

These two detectives are the heart of the story. Their interactions are excellent and highlight their more human side and their concern for due process, even showing empathy for the victims they try to help. The series focuses not only on the police work but also on the psychological process of the victim and the persistence of the investigation.

image I'm impressed by how concisely the flaws in the judicial system are shown, without embellishment, and more as a critique of it. It's a necessary series, sometimes uncomfortable, but profoundly hopeful in its portrayal of rigor and humanity in the pursuit of justice.

I highly recommend it because I found it exceptional; it keeps you on the edge of your seat, anticipating each event as if it were electrifying. It tackles a very difficult subject with admirable dignity and respect for the victim. If you're looking for a series that makes you reflect, that captivates you from the first minute, and above all, is honest... this is the one.

I recommend it 100%🏆; I was fascinated, especially because in the end it leaves you with a powerful lesson and a renewed faith that there are people who are truly worthwhile.

That would be a dream for many... but be careful what you wish for, because something so wonderful can have a hidden, invisible side that you might regret.

That's what happens to Ryan, a chef who is going through financial difficulties. Apparently, he owes money to some unscrupulous people and has arranged to visit his good friend, also a chef, Jack. Jack has his dream job: he cooks for wealthy clients who pay him to travel to specific locations to prepare dinners for millionaires. Now that's winning the lottery. He earns up to $300,000, plus travel and accommodation expenses. Even I would want a job like that. Wouldn't you?

Fate (or Jack's decision) will place Ryan in a situation where he has to impersonate Jack, where, unfortunately, what he so desperately desires will turn into a true nightmare. It's a modest production, but that doesn't detract from its entertainment value. There's plenty of blood and a dark humor that I loved. I don't mind that some parts of the script have a few somewhat implausible moments. What the story exposes can be downright disturbing these days, with conspiracy theories about millionaires doing horrendous things proliferating online.

Filmmaker Nick Tomnay already impressed me with his debut film, The Perfect Host, and in this, his second film, he maintains his style, and the overall result is even better. Part of that credit also goes to Nick Stahl, an actor whose career seemed destined for great success, but after Terminator 3, things went downhill. In recent years, he's made a lot of terrible movies, but here he practically carries the film on his shoulders with remarkable results.

Without big movie stars or a million-dollar budget, it's a pretty sinister and entertaining story. I assure you, you'll want to watch it until the end, and of course, while you're watching what the chef has to do, even if you suspect something's up based on some clues at the beginning. The gory scenes are my favorite. I love stories that don't shy away from showing gruesome scenes.

Be careful what you wish for; it might come true, but not everything will be gold and luxury. There might be things you'll regret, and it will be too late, because there's no escape. Once you're in, you can never get out.

Es una producción modesta, pero eso no le resta valor de entretenimiento. Hay mucha sangre y un humor negro que me encantó. No me importa que algunas partes del guion tengan algunos momentos algo inverosimiles. Lo que la historia expone puede ser francamente perturbador en estos tiempos, donde proliferan en internet teorías conspirativas sobre millonarios que hacen cosas horrendas.

El cineasta Nick Tomnay ya me impresionó con su ópera prima, The Perfect Host, y en esta, su segunda película, mantiene su estilo y el resultado general es aún mejor. I think most movie buffs have already seen The Maid, and I was the only one who hadn't seen it yet. I stayed away from any content or spoilers about this movie, although I saw very positive reviews on Twitter. Due to time constraints, I had postponed watching it until now, when I took advantage of this Carnival weekend to buy a bag of peanuts and sit down to watch the movie.

I enjoyed it. That's what matters. I liked the movie and couldn't take my eyes off it for a minute. Nothing distracted me. I didn't know it was an adaptation of a very successful novel. I had no idea that this writer has already written three books on this story, in addition to many other novels, most of which are apparently thrillers with twists and turns in their plots. I haven't read anything by this author, but from what I saw on the Internet, she's a best-selling writer.

The film has been so well received by audiences and critics alike that they have already announced that they are in pre-production for the sequel, which is an adaptation of the second book in The Housemaid series. It will once again be directed by filmmaker Paul Feig. They made the right choice with the director. This man knows how to get the most out of commercial stories and, of course, entertain audiences. My favorite of his is the movie Bridesmaids, which I found very entertaining, but he has also had some missteps in his career. For example, Ghostbusters was a movie I hated.

Taking care of the house, cooking, looking after the girl, etc., but soon things start to go wrong, because nothing is what it seems. Be careful with this one, because the story has a couple of surprising twists in store for you.

The film has all the ingredients for success. It's an adaptation of a bestseller. The director knows how to entertain, and the cast serves the story well. It has its exaggerations and moments that make you go, “WTF?!” but everyone is perfect in their role. Sydney Sweeney is charming and also shows some skin here, much to the delight of us male viewers. Amanda Seyfried is another fabulous actress, and here she really made me hate her halfway through the movie. Brandon Sklenar has enough charm to fool us too. The Indian girl, on the other hand, I found somewhat unbearable.

Debido a limitaciones de tiempo, había pospuesto verla hasta ahora, cuando aproveché este fin de semana de Carnaval para comprar una bolsa de mani y sentarme a ver la película.

La disfruté. Eso es lo que importa. Me gustó la película y no pude apartar la vista ni un minuto. No me distrajo nada. No sabía que se trata de la adaptación de una novela muy exitosa. No tenía ni idea de que esta escritora ya ha escrito tres libros sobre esta historia, además de muchas otras novelas, la mayoría de las cuales son aparentemente thrillers con giros y vueltas en sus tramas. No he leído nada de esta autora, pero por lo que vi en Internet, es una escritora superventas.

I had seen many positive reviews of this film, plus it was at the Golden Globes and also has Oscar nominations. I have seen several films by director Chloé Zhao, including the Oscar-winning Nomadland. Does anyone remember that film? I don't think many do. Her intimate style, which comes from independent cinema, was something that caught my attention. I even defended her work in The Eternals, a film that was torn apart by a large sector, but I liked it a little. Now, I have to admit that the director has lost momentum.

Many will say that Hamnet is a masterpiece, but at this point, I completely disagree. In terms of filming, technique, and landscapes, I can say that it is beautiful. The images are clean and very pretty, but what matters to me is the story, and although it seems to have broken some people's hearts, it had a different effect on me.

The film deals with the theme of loss, and I thought I would like it. I even expected it to make me cry, because I love films that move me and make me suffer. But that wasn't the case. This film made me feel deeply bored and sleepy. I made a great effort to finish it, to find out where it was going and what the ending would be, which for me was even more disappointing. I can't deny that the ending was very beautiful and that it undoubtedly intended to convey sadness, acceptance, and resignation, but I didn't feel any of that because it focuses so much on the beauty of the framing that it forgets to make me feel anything.

The only thing I like about Hamnet is Jessie Buckley's performance as William Shakespeare's wife. But seriously, why on earth did they call her Agnes? Shakespeare's wife and Hamnet's mother was named Anne Hathaway, yes, just like the famous Hollywood actress. Buckley gives herself completely to her character; she is the real star and strives in every scene to convey her pain at the death of her only son. I'm sure she's the favorite for the Oscar, as she won the Golden Globe for this performance.

Paul Mescal disappointed me as William Shakespeare. I've seen movies where I loved this actor, but here he doesn't convey anything to me. He's a bland character who doesn't convince me. I haven't seen his work in Gladiator 2, but I've read negative reviews of his performance in that film. Maybe he's running out of ideas. Here he comes across as bland.

I didn't like it as much as I expected, but I'd rather they give the Oscar to this film than to Paul Thomas Anderson's communist propaganda.

Había visto muchas críticas positivas de esta película, además de que estuvo en los Globos de Oro y también tiene nominaciones a los Oscar. La esposa de Shakespeare y madre de Hamnet se llamaba Anne Hathaway, sí, igual que la famosa actriz de Hollywood. Buckley se entrega por completo a su personaje; ella es la verdadera protagonista y se esfuerza en cada escena por transmitir su dolor por la muerte de su único hijo. The Cold War is a period that has been the subject of many productions lately. It was a period in which Russia and the United States engaged in an espionage race, monitoring and controlling each other, always in search of information, secrets, technological advances, and weapons. There are countless films and television series that have entertainingly captured all the paranoia of trying to outdo each other.

Ponies, a series that tackles the subject in a rather entertaining way, was recently released. Bea and Twila are assigned to two CIA agents stationed at the US embassy in the Soviet Union. Everything seems to be going wonderfully, until, mysteriously, both husbands die in a plane crash. That's when the two widows decide to get jobs as spies. Although neither of them has any experience or training, they manage to convince the director to give them the opportunity to continue with the mission.

The charm of all this lies in putting two completely opposite characters to work as a team. Bea is of Russian descent, speaks the language perfectly, and is a woman with more class and better education. Twila, on the other hand, is a disaster. She is a woman from a small town in the heart of the United States, a foul-mouthed redneck who knows absolutely nothing about being a secretary, the job she has to do at the embassy as a cover. She may not be very intelligent, but she is tenacious and courageous when it comes to solving problems.

The interaction between these characters and the group of secondary characters they have to deal with and work with on a daily basis is what makes for some very entertaining situations. It's a series to have a good time with, not an in-depth study of espionage. Here we are going to have fun with the adventures of these women in the heart of the Soviet Union, trying to be real spies.

The villain of the series is Andrei, a KGB agent who is rapidly rising through the ranks. His presence instills fear, with a cold, murderous gaze. He is the typical Russian who, if you encounter him, you would rather cross the street than look him in the eye. Bea's mission is to get involved with him to try to get him to work for the Americans, but what they don't know is that he is more dangerous than he seems and has his own plans to reach the top of the system in which he works. I think they were very inspired by Putin to create this character.

There are several subplots. The one about the guy who passes information to the Americans, the death of his sister, which is related to many other deaths of beautiful prostitutes. In addition to a double agent inside the American embassy who works for the Soviets. Conspiracies, twists, and surprises typical of this spy series.

Hay innumerables películas y series de televisión que han capturado de forma entretenida toda la paranoia de intentar superarse unos a otros.

Recientemente se estrenó Ponies, una serie que aborda el tema de una manera bastante entretenida. Bea y Twila son asignadas a dos agentes de la CIA que están destinados en la embajada de Estados Unidos en la Unión Soviética. Todo parece ir de maravilla, hasta que, misteriosamente, ambos maridos mueren en un accidente aéreo. Es entonces cuando las dos viudas deciden conseguir trabajo como espías. Aunque ninguna de las dos tiene experiencia ni formación, logran convencer al director para que les dé la oportunidad de continuar con la misión.

El encanto de todo esto reside en poner a dos personajes completamente opuestos a trabajar en equipo. Bea es de ascendencia rusa, habla el idioma a la perfección y es una mujer con más clase y mejor educación. Twila, por otro lado, es un desastre. Es una mujer de un pequeño pueblo del corazón de Estados Unidos, una paleta con la boca sucia que no sabe absolutamente nada sobre ser secretaria, el trabajo que tiene que hacer en la embajada como tapadera. Puede que no sea muy inteligente, pero es tenaz y valiente a la hora de resolver problemas.

La interacción entre estos personajes y el grupo de personajes secundarios con los que tienen que lidiar y trabajar a diario es lo que provoca situaciones muy entretenidas. Es una serie para pasar un buen rato, no un estudio profundo sobre el espionaje. Aquí nos vamos a divertir con las aventuras de estas mujeres en plena Unión Soviética, intentando ser auténticas espías.

El villano de la serie es Andrei, un hombre del KGB que está ascendiendo rápidamente en el escalafón. Su presencia infunde miedo, con una mirada fría y asesina. Es el típico ruso con el que, si te lo encuentras, prefieres cruzar la calle antes que mirarle a los ojos. Bea tendrá la misión de involucrarse con él para intentar que trabaje para los estadounidenses, pero lo que no saben es que es más peligroso de lo que parece y tiene sus propios planes para llegar a lo más alto del sistema en el que trabaja. Creo que se inspiraron mucho en Putin para crear este personaje.

Hay varias subtramas. La del chico que pasa información a los estadounidenses, la muerte de su hermana, que está relacionada con otras muchas muertes de prostitutas guapas. Además de un agente doble dentro de la embajada estadounidense que trabaja para los soviéticos. Conspiraciones, giros y sorpresas típicas de esta serie de espionaje.

Hasta ahora, la segunda temporada no ha sido confirmada, pero la serie ha tenido una buena acogida, por lo que es solo cuestión de tiempo que se anuncie su renovación, ya que al final hay muchas revelaciones que merecen ser desarrolladas en otra tanda de episodios. Por cierto, Emilia Clarke, que interpreta a Bea, también es productora de la serie. Todo el mundo la conoce; es la reina de Juego de Tronos. La otra protagonista es Haley Lu Richardson, y las dos forman una buena pareja. Solo he visto a esta actriz en tres producciones anteriores: The White Lotus, Unpregnant y Split.

Yesterday I finished watching this miniseries that I had pending, and I have no doubt that it was one of the best of last year. It's a story to be enjoyed slowly. I watched one episode every day. Although I wanted to watch it all at once, I preferred to wait and consume one episode per day. It left me excited; it's an incredible production.

In eight episodes, we are told the story of Benito Mussolini, from the creation of fascism to the moment when the totalitarian regime was established, using fear to silence everyone, a silence that meant the death of democracy.

It is an adaptation of some novels written by Antonio Scurati, which were very successful. There are several books, I think five or six, I'm not sure, and this miniseries is only an adaptation of the first one. I don't know if they will adapt all the books. From what I saw on Twitter, this production was very expensive, and making other seasons could increase the budget even more, as they would have to shoot scenes set during World War II. I don't care, I'm satisfied with these eight episodes, because it's exquisite.

It is clear that its production was costly, as the production design is truly impeccable. The recreation of historical events, locations, the number of extras, special effects, costumes, and makeup. It is a production in which no expense has been spared to perfect even the smallest detail. I was impressed by filmmaker Joe Wright, responsible for this adaptation, for his very rhythmic style. I loved those tilted shots, which managed to convey the tension and madness of the character.

We mustn't overlook the soundtrack either, with some selections that are anachronistic but fit in and are fascinating, at least in my case, because if you don't like historical themes and aren't interested in learning about Mussolini, then you won't like this miniseries, but it's a masterpiece from last year. Since I was a child, I've been very interested in that period of history. When I was little, I read several books about Hitler, Mussolini, and the war. I remember that I really liked these topics, and together with a friend, we would visit places that sold used books to see what we could find. I still have about three books, stored in a box somewhere.

Obviously, the series does not shy away from drawing parallels with our own era. There is even a cheeky scene that almost made me fall off my chair laughing. I'm not going to describe it, but if you watch the miniseries, you'll understand right away. The left has always labeled those who oppose it as fascists, but that term is used very incorrectly today, because those who impose their ideas through force, violence, persecution, imprisonment, torture, deception, and perpetuation in power are now those on the left. I say this as someone who lives in a socialist country, and it is they who apply fascist policies. Every episode I watched reminded me of things I have seen and experienced in my country.

What really surprised me was the actor Luca Marinelli. This man truly transformed himself into Il Duce. My goodness! A performance worthy of a standing ovation. Marinelli plays Mussolini to perfection. Some may notice his exaggerated, even buffoonish gestures, but I invite you to look up documentaries and archival footage of Mussolini to see that this dictator was a showman. Incidentally, this is something that many power-hungry psychopaths have in common.

We see the actor constantly breaking the fourth wall, and I loved the use of this narrative device because the protagonist is Mussolini, and by speaking directly to us, we learn everything: his true thoughts, his fears, his insecurities, and that enormous ego that propelled him to the highest levels of power. By the way, I had only seen Marinelli in the two The Old Guard movies with Charlize Theron, and now I want to look for other European films he has been in, and I will be on the lookout for his next project.

There is nothing more to say, except that you should hurry up and find this wonderful miniseries. You won't regret it. It's fabulous.

Ayer terminé de ver esta miniserie que tenía pendiente, y no tengo ninguna duda de que fue una de las mejores del año pasado. Es una historia para disfrutar lentamente. Vi un episodio cada día. Aunque quería verla de un tirón, preferí esperar y consumir un episodio por día. Me ha dejado emocionado; es una producción increíble.

Tampoco debemos pasar por alto la banda sonora, con algunas selecciones que son anacrónicas pero que encajan y resultan fascinantes, al menos en mi caso, porque si no te gustan los temas históricos y no te interesa aprender sobre Mussolini, entonces no te gustará esta miniserie, pero es una obra maestra del año pasado. Desde niño me ha interesado mucho ese periodo de la historia. Cuando era pequeño, leí varios libros sobre Hitler, Mussolini y la guerra. Recuerdo que me gustaban mucho estos temas y, junto con un amigo, visitábamos lugares donde vendían libros usados para ver qué podíamos encontrar. Todavía conservo unos tres libros, guardados en una caja en algún lugar.

Obviamente, la serie no rehúye establecer paralelismos con nuestra propia época. Hay incluso una escena descarada que casi me hace caer de la silla de tanto reírme. No voy a contarla, pero si ves la miniserie, la entenderas enseguida. La izquierda siempre ha tildado de fascistas a quienes se oponen a ella, pero ese término se utiliza hoy en día de forma muy errónea, porque quienes imponen sus ideas por la fuerza, la violencia, la persecución, el encarcelamiento, la tortura, el engaño y la perpetuación en el poder son hoy en día los de la izquierda. Lo digo como alguien que vive en un país socialista, y son ellos los que aplican políticas fascistas. Cada episodio que vi me recordó cosas que he visto y experimentado en mi país.

Lo que realmente me sorprendió fue el actor Luca Marinelli. Este hombre se transformó verdaderamente en Il Duce. ¡Dios mío! Una actuación digna de una ovación de pie. Marinelli interpreta a Mussolini a la perfección. Algunos pueden notar sus gestos exagerados, incluso bufonescos, pero les invito a buscar documentales y material de archivo sobre Mussolini para ver que este dictador era un showman. Por cierto, solo había visto a Marinelli en las dos películas de The Old Guard con Charlize Theron, y ahora quiero buscar otras películas europeas en las que haya participado, y estaré atento a su próximo proyecto.

No hay nada más que decir, excepto que deberías darte prisa y buscar esta maravillosa miniserie. No te arrepentirás. Es fabulosa.

I remember seeing Alejandro Amenábar's film Tesis in the late 1990s, which I really liked, and this filmmaker, also young at the time, was emerging as a promising figure in Spanish cinema. He continued to make very good productions. I loved him again with Open Your Eyes, a film that even had a Hollywood remake. He left me speechless with The Others and made me cry a lot with The Sea Inside.

After that excellent film, I noticed a lack of impact in his subsequent works. Although I liked While the War Lasts, Agora did not meet my expectations, and Regression, with the girl from Harry Potter, was a disastrous film that I hated. Now he brings us El Cuativo, and I'm quite disappointed with how he has developed this story.

The film is based on real events, but adds other fictional elements. The beginning of the film is fine, it managed to interest me a little, but as it fills up with gay love, it loses its meaning, and there are scenes that I find really hard to believe. If any historians are reading this, could you confirm whether Algiers at that time was a city full of effeminate homosexuals walking the streets with blatant lust? That's what Miguel de Cervantes sees every time he walks those streets. To me, that's not credible.

I have no problem with gay themes, I love Brokeback Mountain and it was my favorite for the Oscars at the time, but the point is that what is shown here in El Cautivo is not a love story, there is a lot of submission and abuse. This will surely delight progressives in Spain, as the film conveys wokism throughout. Even when Muslims are shown committing murders, there is always some instructive line from a character saying that Christians treat them badly too. Things like this are what bother me about a film that clearly seeks to clean up its image, whitewash its reputation, normalize what is wrong, and give lessons that actually seem like indoctrination.

The film is about the years Miguel de Cervantes, the creator of Don Quixote de la Mancha, spent as a prisoner in Algiers. There, he devoted himself to inventing stories to entertain his fellow prisoners. The leader of that place, I don't remember what they called him, began to have a close relationship with Cervantes, who told him stories. I think this part has also been controversial among some historians and people who have studied Cervantes' work, since Amenábar practically tells us that Cervantes was gay or bisexual, because in the end he has homosexual relations with the city's leader, who, incidentally, also has a group of gay men in his harem with whom he has sex, threesomes, etc. Please, I need a historian to tell me if there is any evidence that this was the case.

The actor who plays Cervantes does an average job, nothing special; I don't think he's a great actor. I had seen him in a really bad movie, the disaster called Through My Window. I think he's also in the series Berlin, but I don't even remember it well. The veteran actors are quite good and more believable. Alessandro Borghi, the Italian actor, plays the leader of the Moors, and I liked his work. He's a great actor whom I've enjoyed watching in the series Suburra and Supersex. I recommend both series, and I reviewed them some time ago, as well as the film Il primo re.

If you don't watch El cautivo, you won't be missing anything impressive. Amenábar has disappointed me again; he has lost the spark of his early work. Now he is serving an agenda. You decide whether to give it a chance. Maybe you'll love it and I'm exaggerating.

Recuerdo que, a finales de los años noventa, vi la película Tesis, de Alejandro Amenábar, que me gustó mucho, y este cineasta, también joven por entonces, se perfilaba como una figura prometedora del cine español. Siguió haciendo muy buenas producciones. Me volvió a encantar con Abre los ojos, una película que incluso tuvo un remake en Hollywood. Me dejó sin palabras con Los otros y me hizo llorar mucho con Mar adentro.

Después de esa excelente película, noté una falta de impacto en sus siguientes trabajos. Aunque me gustó Mientras dure la guerra, Ágora no cumplió mis expectativas, y Regresión, con la chica de Harry Potter, fue una película desastrosa que odié. Ahora nos trae El Cuativo, y me ha decepcionado bastante cómo ha desarrollado esta historia.

La película trata sobre hechos reales, pero añade otros elementos inventados. El comienzo de la película está bien, consiguió interesarme un poco, pero a medida que se va llenando de amor gay, pierde su significado, y hay escenas que me parecen realmente difíciles de creer. Si algún historiador está leyendo esto, ¿podría confirmar si Argel en aquella época era una ciudad llena de homosexuales afeminados que caminaban por las calles con una lujuria descarada? Eso es lo que Miguel de Cervantes ve cada vez que camina por esas calles. Para mí, eso no es creíble.

No tengo ningún problema con los temas gays, me encanta Brokeback Mountain y era mi favorita para los Óscar en su momento, pero la cuestión es que lo que se muestra aquí en El Cautivo no es una historia de amor, hay mucha sumisión y abuso. Esto seguramente encantará a los progresistas en España, ya que la película transmite wokismo por todas partes. Incluso cuando se muestra a musulmanes cometiendo asesinatos, siempre hay alguna frase instructiva de algún personaje diciendo que los cristianos también los tratan mal. Cosas como estas son las que me molestan de una película que claramente busca limpiar su imagen, blanquear su reputación, normalizar lo que está mal y dar lecciones que en realidad parecen adoctrinamiento.
