Moving Forward

This is a delicate topic, but has to be addressed. I figure maybe 10% of all people considered #fambalam prior to this post, will actually read this. People ask, "what is #thealliance"? "What are your goals?" "What separates you, as a community, from other ones out here on the STEEM blockchain?" "Why should we support you or even care about what you are doing?" Valid questions, and they will be tackled heavily in the next post. This one, is to tell everyone that we are cleaning house and have unfollowed EVERYONE.

You Mean, Like, A Purge?

Yes, exactly that. The reason we are unfollowing everyone is because we feel that everyone is an ally out here on the chain. We all want the same thing, to see STEEM go 'to the moon', am I right? One thing that has always made us great is the engagement we have within the community and people that should be considered 'allies', because of their continual support and engagement, are not and some that are - shouldn't be. At the same time, we want people to grow and be successful here. I'm no better than you, you're no better than me. We are all unique, yes, but all of us are working toward a common goal. That being, to see STEEM publicly recognized and usable as a daily currency to buy our - well - anything.

That's what it all really boils down to is the money. It's a cold hard truth and some are definitely more giving and generous than others. We're voting on people that never comment on anyone else's posts, some don't even pay homage to others by handing out votes! I mean seriously, if people didn't want to get paid, they would run their blog on Tumblr or Wordpress or even have a byline on something like a Facebook page or a Weebly blog. Tell me I'm wrong! Tell me who would actually be here, through all these forks and changes, if they weren't making at least a little bit of money?? You wouldn't.

But, we've never been greedy. We just think that some people should be getting more attention because they have been putting more towards helping others around here succeed. "Oh you just care about the money now". NO. We care about the people that have been trying to help others and feel they should be getting better compensated for their generosity. We aren't making people do anything they don't want to do. We applaud those that do 'put the family first' and in return, they will be paid more attention to. Overall

What I want is for the family to help decide what is a fair amount to ask of people. Some things are not on here like donations and resteems or comment count. But we all see it. Another thing that needs to be considered is the vote trail percentage. There are many that are on the trail, and that's why some of their numbers are higher. But, with some of them, the percentage is so low, it's like, what? Others are delegating nothing and have plenty to spare and put it toward helping out the #fambalam. Every current member was 'reviewed' and I hope everyone responds. Maybe you're impressed with your own level of participation, maybe you're disgusted. Either way, I look forward to the comment section and everyone's thoughts. Oh and - REMEMBER TO BE YOU!

2. i agree with @thekittygirl - neither impressed nor disgusted. My measly 3% vote is because I do a lot of curation manually and putting it higher than that dropped me to 17% on voting power LOLOLOL So I kept adjusting it so that i had votes left over for me to actually vote on the people that I was reading :) (a lot of which were alliance members that I had to change the previous vote one hehe)
It is what it is. I love curation trails for what they are. But nothing beats comments from people that have READ my posts! :) but there is only so much time in the day!!! we can't read ALL the posts of everyone - just cant. so - that's why i love curation trails for what they are.

At the same time - how awesome to get votes from the family that felt like "we support you no matter what" and a LOT of their votes were like 0.001. that NEVER mattered to me. i loved seeing their names present on my post in the voting section! THAT's what felt good.

and you know why there is no more delegation LOL it was there, and now its gone. cuz i'll be gone. (but still hovering) hehehe

I have sat and read each and every comment on this thread and I am not even a member of #thealliance after it was shared at #PYPT and one thing I love reading is that there is a truly active supporting community rallying around reflecting on ways they can contribute to their community more towards a common goal. I've seen your posts and have to admit I have trouble understanding them. I am very grateful for your votes that appeared out of nowhere a few months ago.

I saw people delegating sp to you, but I do not delegate SP. Instead I lease delegation to make my three accounts stronger that they would be otherwise. I don't self-vote but do vote for my other accounts. Most of who else I vote for are small accounts.

Recently I got on two trails as an experiment - one big, one small. At this point, it's draining my sp badly. I'm not getting on a bunch of trails for a zillion no value votes. I vote for 1 cent+ or not at all.

I am on a personal "Increase Curation Revenue" project, and trying to wrap my brain around the best way to spread my votes. I've been playing with this for about six weeks and it is slow going.

I power down weekly because I live off of steem money. It's poverty level in Malaysia, but I am very lucky to have this opportunity and life.

I adjust my power downs with an attempt to keep growing my owned sp, and slowly have done that over the time I have been using this strategy. Last July fitinfun had 250 sp. Today I have 620 sp owned. If I did not have to eat and pay rent, I would have a lot more, I guess.

If you have an option for paying a monthly amount in STEEM or SBD, I would consider it. I do this for other programs I am in. And possibly delegation or trail voting could come in the future, but at this point, I and not able to do either.

Regardless of what happens in the future @thealliance, thank you for the recent votes. They really helped me, and I appreciate them all.

I gotta say there are only two discord chats I spend any extensive amounts of time in. The unfortunate thing is that when I'm active in Discord, the vast majority of folk are not, and most likely sleeping. Timezones can suck sometimes. But I'm active in these because I feel welcome, and I feel invested in them.

The Alliance is one of these. It really does feel more like hanging out in someone's lounge room. Irreverent, warm, friendly, funny, and fun.

Albeit in the last couple of weeks I've actually written and posted, the last couple of months (since Japan) has been a time of very little engagement on Steem. Sometimes I'm on Discord more than I am on Steem.

Engagement is something I've been struggling with and thinking about. And it has nothing to do with the Steem price. Given how much I earn per hour in my work, it's going to take Steem going to Jupiter, not the moon, for me to be a full-time Steemian. Just sayin'.

My WP blog gets no reach. I don't even reckon anyone who votes on my posts on Steem reads them. Writing and posting is not a money-earner for me. And whilst all my Steem is not staked, most of it is, and most of it is delegated out. The biggest beneficiary being the other community that I have an admin-style role in. And that will be increasing given the projects and visions we have for that.

I don't understand the math behind curating, and following curation trails.... times and voting percentages. I set them high and found my VP drained immediately. And clearly, it also depends on how and how many votes those curating accounts give out that depend on how much the % of VP drops. This obviously becomes less of a problem when SP is higher. I'd love some guidance on that to learn how I can set those things things properly in steemauto, because I cannot spend the time to properly manually vote, I have to trust in the curating of others.... which is why there are only 3 trails I follow. The Alliance being one of them.

We may not have PoI in the Alliance, but we have what I will call PoGI - Proof of Genuine Interaction. That's more than I can say about another server since engagement there has been tokenised. Again, just sayin'.

I hope this community continues to thrive. Even as a plant grows, it has to periodically drop dead leaves and bits. It's normal and it's natural.

I'm glad that if I get any votes for my content its because it deserves it, not because it's on an automated system.

I have never officially been or applied for membership in The Alliance. Yet; in my own small way, with my existing resources, I have always tried to support the efforts of many of the members. In return, a great many members of the #famblam (e.g., @guiltyparties, @shadowspub, @thekittygirl, @dreemsteem, @enginewitty, @jackmiller, @thehive, @snook, ad infinitum) have supported me, mostly emotionally and with friendship, for that I am eternally and sincerely grateful.

Many, if not all, of us are passionate about the STEEM blockchain and the difference it already has made around the world. Changes are happening everyday, new DAPPS, new alliances with other blockchains (e.g., DTUBE and SCOT) it all can be overwhelming, confusing, and scary. Without change, whether one agrees with it or not, we will never grow.

On this eve of my Country's celebration of its independence, I wish to remind everyone that those who are considered The Founding Fathers of the United States of America seldom agreed. Those folks did agree to compromise in order to ensure the stability and survival of their Republic.

There is a great deal I do not know about the changes taking place on our blockchain, which I mentioned above along with EIP, SPP and Linear Voting Curves and such. I do know this... just like my loyalty to my Nation, I have a loyalty to Steem. Having made this statement and in the spirit of the Revolution in Social Media I am taking the following action...

I do what I can, I'm not working at a keyboard so I can't always make comments and I only pop in Discord when absolutely necessary.. .

So I try to support projects via delegations and trails.. Unfortunately, that does mean that my task votes get somewhat diluted through the number of trails I follow. I probably need to revisit how I've weighted them!

Anyway, send me a pm if things need changing from me... Direct is the best way for me, this way I'm not really sure!

Good morning dear @thealliance community, sorry for not contributing continuously. For me Steemit is a platform where I can release stress, practice languages, receive corrections that improve and expand the art of writing, rather than get votes or monetize my publication.

Knowing that a community like you supports me and takes time to read to me is satisfying.

In Venezuela, I have two friends @crisangel and @oizaguirres, who guided me in my first steps to the castle, we don't speak often, but we can always greet each other and know that they are well in these "special" moments for which we live. Although my language is Spanish, writing in English (I admit the use of translators as a support system), helps me to understand it better in everyday life, since I usually use technical English and phraseology in my work, I would like the Spanish community in discord to be more active and you can count on me for consultations in case you want to learn Spanish.

I would like to continue belonging to the community, since it has been my first star achieved in steemit.

If, on the contrary, they decide that I should leave the community, then I am grateful for all the nice comments and support that have left me in publications in past times.

I am neither impressed nor disgusted at my numbers, as I do what I feel that I can at the time. However, this makes me wonder if/how I can do more, which I think is something we should all consider periodically (except our fearless leader, of course, who sweats blood & tears for the family all the time). My position as part of the family is a source of pride for me, though, as well as a source of enjoyment, too. Some of the best peeps on the platform are there and I am happy to be in such great company. 😊

I'm proud of that 0% to self :D Maybe I can do better than 20% to family, but yeah it all depends on the definition of "family" as you said ;) I started the power down just to try to take advantage of the bitcoin peak (we'll see how that will end up lol) but I'm making sure to stay above 500SP

Honestly, I was expecting something worse but it turned out I'm not far from the average :D

PS: You promised to teach us how to become zombies :D where's the tip?!!

You provided a lot of information here! BTW - I REALLY wanted to attend the Block Party - hope I can make the next one. I don't do curation trails, I prefer to vote and comment after reading the content. Which is time consuming as we all know. And I vote so much that my voting power can't catch up, it's always below 50%. I haven't been using the tag much because there are just so darn many things you're required to tag now. And I didn't even know about @alliedforces! Always so much to keep up with. I'll try to do better for the family!

I am not on any voting trails as I prefer to vote manually (and comment when I can). Although I agree to a certain extent that it is "about the money", for me it doesn't mean much if you get the sense that no one is reading what you've written. I remember the first time I was "Curied" (back in the good ole days when it looking like it was worth 150dollars) and I thought that people actually read my work! It was one part of a story I was writing and the next day when I published the next episode I was so pumped to see how many people were following the story (judging it by upvotes). I got about 2 cents for it. Man, I was gutted. It wasn't really about the money (because I have never removed a cent from Steem) it was about the recognition and the realisation that people hadn't really enjoyed what I'd written (I didn't realise how it all worked).

I try not to just upvote the people I know as I want to reward new accounts, those that don't get much recognition: future family if you will.

I see Steem as an investment - in time, people and money (hopefully it will be worth something above a dollar again one day!). Hopefully you get more back than you put in, but with any investment you might get a whole lot less!

Excellent post. I just joined your curation trail within the last few weeks so you likely don't have me activated in your group. I vote all trails at 25% to keep my small VP high. I support @guiltyparties for witness as well. I check my votes in SteemWorld constantly, so I can see where my bit of support goes. Most of my SP is delegated out, but I can possibly make a small delegation to @thealliance once my excess comes back from an old delegation I reduced. Let's all chip in together. :)

Dang @enginewitty! This took some effort. I am impressed. I also feel like similar conversations are coming up in SSG, so it is useful/interesting to see your approach.

I still always think it is funny you snuck me in here somehow. When I first joined steemit the alliance was this secretive thing and people were applying to get in. I don’t know when or how I got added so I never feel like a real member. But I sure do like the crew here. ☺️

Cleaning house is necessary. You need to know who is committed to the betterment of all. I always intend well, but I’m also forever realizing that my life is going to keep me on the treadmill until I retire, and I can never quite get to all the things. C’mon Steem, go ahead and moon already! Then I can spend way more time hanging out with my peeps on Steem!

Love being a part of this family. I think it will be great to have some specific expectations and requirements. Things like upvoting and commenting on a certain number of member posts per day and maybe some Discord requirements would be great!

I had the gut feeling about this...and expected it to be coming....it is good to remind everyone to focus about #thealliance goals and support that everyone is looking for...I am glad I am part of the famblam I am ready to do my best towards the family next stop.....becuase of some.time difference I could not manage to stay active on discord but I always manage to get the "batman₹ and team development by going through the conversation...

I have never been part of any curation trails taking pride in manual voting and to be able to manage the value of my upvote (also I am really a tech idiot and have never ventured into it, being caught up trying to learn other stuff within the SteemVerse) Funny though, this morning I woke up thinking I should look into it 🤪 and then bam, I am hit with this (is nothing a secret?.... gahhhhh) Sorry, I am hardly chatting on Discord because of time management (I suck at it) and fetching and ferrying half my day doesn't help either I know I hardly use TheAlliance tag but it is in my signoff on all my posts because I am really grateful for all the support <33

ps: zombies are also eating my minutes ... sometimes up to hours... how do I stop them?

just for the record most of my Sp is delegated to several projects that do things for the platform - It is true that i do not upvote much but the reason is that i manually curate - because I do not believe in auto votes - this means that i actually read - listen and look at everything I upvote - I believe that counts a lot more than just blind clicking ...

Yeah man, I've fallen off the wagon big time! I'll have to re-evaluate what I'm doing, trim out the rubbish, and try to find a better balance for my time. It's been a busy year so far. Haven't really been Discording or posting anywhere much either, but hopefully I'll find some inspiration soon, and climb back on the party bus.

P.S: just powering down a small trickle to get some liquidity if it is needed at some stage... Hopefully I can put some back in over time...

With times everything needs to revaluation, I am happy where I stand by considering my times towards the alliance, I want to be the guy 2018 who has lots of time to spare in server n the alliance family but this out of internet life holds me tight. Anyway glad to be in the family and really thankful the support I got.
