Searching through the catalog of movies that serve as filler on streaming platforms, we can stumble upon small films with interesting stories. This disturbing story I'm about to review is one of those good movies that I recommend watching.

I'm one of those who jump into movie adventures without knowing anything about the movie. The only thing that interested me was that it was a very low budget production and I didn't even know who the director or lead actress was.
This can sometimes go very wrong. I have come across immense garbage, which I stopped watching within the first fifteen minutes. Other times I've stumbled upon hidden gems that deserve more exposure. That's just me, I take my chances in the game , like a lottery, when it comes to selecting a film to watch.
The script and direction are by filmmaker David Marmor, who according to his twitter profile is also a computer whiz. He is a director of whom I know of no previous work. Check his IMDB profile and he has a few short films that I haven't seen. He has worked as a camera operator and editor on his own projects.
When I write a review on a film, I take all these factors into account. I like to support the work of filmmakers little known to most of the world's viewers, regardless of whether I like the film or not, I always try to give an objective assessment with positive and negative points, the important thing is to give diffusion to these films that don't have a big promotional campaign.
The story of the film falls into the horror category. There are no ghosts, haunted houses or gore scenes. It is psychological horror and I also include it within the subgenre of films about cults.
I liked the film, it has an ending that answers one of the questions I was asking myself and that at times I thought would not be clarified, fortunately without the need for someone to explain it to me, I found the answer I was looking for.
This is another example of what I have always advocated, if the story is interesting enough, no matter the scarcity of resources.

El guión y la dirección son del cineasta David Marmor, que según su perfil de twitter es también un experto en informática. Es un director del que no conozco ningún trabajo anterior. Revise su perfil en IMDB y tiene algunos cortometrajes que no he visto. Ha trabajado como operador de cámara y editor en sus propios proyectos.
Cuando escribo una crítica sobre una película, tengo en cuenta todos estos factores. Me gusta apoyar el trabajo de cineastas poco conocidos por la mayoría de los espectadores del mundo, independientemente de que la película me guste o no, siempre intento dar una valoración objetiva con los puntos positivos y negativos, lo importante es dar difusión a estas películas que no tienen una gran campaña de promoción.

La película me ha gustado, tiene un final que responde a una de las preguntas que me hacía y que por momentos pensé que no se aclararía, afortunadamente sin necesidad de que alguien me lo explicara, encontré la respuesta que buscaba.
Este es otro ejemplo de lo que siempre he defendido, si la historia es lo suficientemente interesante, no importa la escasez de recursos.
What is the plot of 1BR?
Sarah is a young woman who leaves the family home because she is so angry at her father, who cheated on her mother when she was about to die. She has been a spoiled child and ventures out on her own to live in the city of Los Angeles. She finds an apartment in a gated community that seems perfect for her. All the neighbors there are friendly, it seems like an amazing place, where everyone helps each other and shares. Although pets are not allowed, she lies and hides her cat inside the apartment. She is alone in the city, and only makes a small friendship with Lisa, a co-worker. One of her neighbors, who is very handsome, is named Brian. This new life seems to be going great until she starts hearing strange noises coming from the pipes at night that keep her awake. Soon she discovers what it is and everything takes a terrifying turn. Sarah cannot imagine all the suffering she will have to endure until she accepts to be part of this peculiar community. What are those noises? What is going on? Why are her neighbors so nice? What are they hiding? Will Sarah be ready to find out?

My opinion
Some may wonder if the story is implausible, that such communities, sects or people aligned around the same thought cannot exist. But the sad reality is that in real life there are countless cases with points in common with the madmen who appear in this film.
There are many cases in the world, some more famous than others, of people who form a kind of sect, with their own codes of conduct, training and recruitment of members. Many of these groups have ended up causing terrible tragedies.
A few months ago several documentaries were released about an organization whose leader, with the economic support of some millionaires whom he managed to capture with ideas, built a company that in reality hid a sect of women who became slaves and were even branded, as if they were cattle. Even a famous Hollywood actress has recently been convicted for this case, as she was one of those who recruited people for the organization.
Although the story in the movie is entirely fictional, it is likely that somewhere in the world there is a small group as deranged as those in the movie. Real life has shown that human beings are capable of the most aberrant acts, when under the influence of completely insane ideas and leaders.
The protagonist of the story is a young woman who meets the requirements sought by this type of organization. Young, with family problems, estranged from her relatives, easy to influence, with an emptiness inside her and with the need to find her place in the world. Of course in the film we do not see a sect that recruits like any other, this one uses methods of torture and violence to tame those they select. If they fail to convince them, they become disposable and die.

Algunos se preguntarán si la historia es inverosímil, que no pueden existir tales comunidades, sectas o personas alineadas en torno a un mismo pensamiento. Pero la triste realidad es que en la vida real hay innumerables casos con puntos en común con los locos que aparecen en esta película.
Hay muchos casos en el mundo, algunos más famosos que otros, de personas que forman una especie de secta, con sus propios códigos de conducta, formación y reclutamiento de miembros. Muchos de estos grupos han acabado provocando terribles tragedias.
Hace unos meses se estrenaron varios documentales sobre una organización cuyo líder, con el apoyo económico de algunos millonarias a los que logró captar con ideas, construyó una empresa que en realidad escondía una secta de mujeres que se convertían en esclavas e incluso eran marcadas, como si fueran ganado. Incluso una famosa actriz de Hollywood ha sido recientemente condenada por este caso, ya que fue una de las que reclutó gente para la organización.
Aunque la historia de la película es totalmente ficticia, es probable que en algún lugar del mundo haya un pequeño grupo tan desquiciado como los de la película. At the beginning of the film, we see through Sarah's visit to the residential complex, a variety of friendly and smiling characters, in a pleasant convivial atmosphere. Something put me on alert. There's something fishy, was my immediate thought.
I am a very suspicious person with this kind of environment, when I meet people who are too friendly, my sixth sense tells me: Danger! Life has taught me that these types of people always hide their true selves behind a mask in front of society.
I don't deny that there are good people in the world, but when someone is too nice. For me it is a warning and caution sign. I would rather be like that than fall into a terrible trap. Evil in the real world is very big, everything I have seen and experienced has taught me life lessons. What we see in the film is a fiction, an exaggerated representation of the horrible things that can happen inside closed communities, which follow wrong guidelines and are manipulated by crazy indoctrinated fanatics.
The filmmaker manages to create disturbing scenes and, although there is not so much explicit violence, every explosion of violence or torture makes us feel bad for the protagonist of the story. How will Sarah escape from that place? Will she become one of them? The use of violent methods to coerce a person's will is a practice used by totalitarian regimes and many types of single-minded organizations.
The big question I asked myself watching the film was where do they get all the money to live? Where do they get all the technological resources? How do they get the funding? For a moment I thought it would be unanswerable, that it would be an unknown. But fortunately, without the need to explain it, I was able to reach the conclusion at the end of where they got the money to be able to have all that technological deployment inside the residential complex.
You can tell the movie was low budget, but almost everything takes place in the same place. The film was very entertaining and an hour and a half of duration was enough to show the evil of human beings and create a climate of unpleasant tension, identifying us with the protagonist and wishing that everything goes well for her.
It is an excellent choice for lovers of psychological horror , with some scenes of violence that achieve the goal of making us uncomfortable. I have not seen much promotion of the film , I think it is worth that more viewers give it a chance and see it.
Al principio de la película, vemos a través de la visita de Sarah al complejo residencial, una variedad de personajes amables y sonrientes, en un ambiente de agradable convivencia. Algo me puso en alerta. Hay algo sospechoso, fue lo que pensé inmediatamente.
Soy una persona muy desconfiada con este tipo de ambientes, cuando me encuentro con gente demasiado amable, mi sexto sentido me lo dice: ¡Peligro! La vida me ha enseñado que este tipo de personas siempre esconden su verdadero ser detrás de una máscara ante la sociedad.

Lo que vemos en la película es una ficción, una representación exagerada de las cosas horribles que pueden ocurrir dentro de comunidades cerradas, que siguen pautas equivocadas y son manipuladas por locos fanáticos adoctrinados.
El cineasta consigue crear escenas inquietantes y, aunque no hay tanta violencia explícita, cada explosión de violencia o tortura nos hace sentir mal por la protagonista de la historia. ¿Cómo escapará Sarah de ese lugar? ¿Se convertirá en uno de ellos? El uso de métodos violentos para coaccionar la voluntad de una persona es una práctica utilizada por los regímenes totalitarios y muchos tipos de organizaciones de pensamiento único.
La gran pregunta que me hice viendo la película fue ¿de dónde sacan todo el dinero para vivir? ¿De dónde sacan todos los recursos tecnológicos? ¿Cómo consiguen la financiación? Por un momento pensé que no tendría respuesta, que sería una incógnita. Pero afortunadamente, sin necesidad de explicarlo, pude llegar a la conclusión al final de dónde conseguían el dinero para poder tener todo ese despliegue tecnológico dentro del complejo residencial.
Se nota que la película tenía poco presupuesto, pero casi todo transcurre en el mismo lugar. La película fue muy entretenida y una hora y media de duración fue suficiente para mostrar la maldad del ser humano y crear un clima de tensión desagradable, identificándonos con la protagonista y deseando que todo le vaya bien.
Es una excelente opción para los amantes del terror psicológico , con algunas escenas de violencia que logran el objetivo de incomodarnos. No he visto mucha promoción de la película , creo que merece la pena que más espectadores le den una oportunidad y la vean.

Surely many fans of that series will remember him. In the movie he is a supporting character, but a very important one.

1BR is a well paced story, before reaching the half hour mark the big twist occurs, the characters that seemed to be something, take off their masks and show their true nature. The tension is mounting, witnessing the unsubtle tactics to coerce the people who run this residency set of people with kind faces, but dark hearts.

1BR es una historia con buen ritmo, antes de llegar a la media hora se produce el gran giro, los personajes que parecían ser algo, se quitan la máscara y muestran su verdadera naturaleza. La tensión va en aumento, siendo testigo de las tácticas poco sutiles para coaccionar a las personas que manejan este conjunto residencia de gente con caras amables, pero corazones oscuros.
Se las recomiendo, ya conocen mis preferencias, así que pueden imaginar qué tipo de película es. Cuando la veas, ya me contarás qué te ha parecido. Anoche vi la última de Fast and Furious, pero no creo que haga una crítica de esa película. ¡Hasta luego!
