I wanted to watch a fantasy series and found several that caught my attention, but I chose A Discovery of Witches because I had already seen the main characters in other productions, the last one being Dept Q, but also because I found this world of witches, demons, and vampires living among humans very interesting. The truth is that the series hooked me, and I’m already finishing the second season, although in this post I’ll only talk about the first.

Tenía ganas de ver una serie fantástica y me encontré varias que llamaron mi atención pero me incliné por A Discovery of Witches porque que a los protagonistas ya los he visto en otras producciones y la última fue Dept Q, pero también porque me pareció muy interesante este mundo de brujas, demonios y vampiros conviviendo entre los humanos. Lo cierto es que la serie me enganchó y ya voy terminando la segunda temporada aunque en esta publicación solo hablaré de la primera.

This series is what I was looking for, because although it is a fantasy world of witches, vampires, and demons, they are not portrayed as in other productions where witches are green, ugly, fly on broomsticks, and vampires have almost translucent or gray skin, sleep in coffins, and feed exclusively on human blood. Here, they are normal people trying to go unnoticed while living among humans, with conflicts that have lasted for centuries. It is a very entertaining series with lots of action and magic, set in London, Venice, and France, which are very beautiful locations. One thing I didn’t like and was the special effects in some scenes where you see Matthew running or Diana flying; it looked very fake.

This series is essentially a love story between two very different people who face many obstacles to being together, many ancient pacts and agreements that guide the existence of creatures and their coexistence with humans. Rules that are becoming obsolete from this point on. As it is the first season, this is where they meet and take the first steps towards their union, and where Diana encounters magic and the secrets that surround it. There are two more seasons that pick up exactly where the final episode of the previous season left off, and apparently the third is the last. I haven't gotten that far yet to know how the story ends, but I like where it's going and I really enjoyed the first season.

Esta serie es lo que estaba buscando, porque aunque es un mundo fantásticos de brujas, vampiros y demonios, no son mostrados como en otras producciones donde las brujas son verdes, feas, vuelan usando escobas y los vampiros tienen piel casi traslúcida o gris, duermen a ataúd y se alimentan exclusivamente de sangre humana, aquí son personas normales tratando de pasar inadvertidos viviendo entre los humanos, con conflictos que han durado por siglos. Es una serie bastante entretenida con mucha acción y magia, ambientada en Londres, Venecia y Francia, escenarios muy bonitos. Hay algo que no me pareció de primera y fueron los efectos especiales en algunas escenas donde se ve a Matthew corriendo o Diana volando, eso se vio muy falso.

Esta serie no deja de ser una historia de amor entre dos personas sumamente diferente y con muchos impedimentos para estar juntos, muchos pactos y acuerdos antiguos que guían la existencia de las criaturas y la convivencia entre ellos y los humanos. Reglas que a partir de aquí se van haciendo obsoletas. Cómo es la primera temporada aquí se conocen y se dan los primeros pasos de su unión y el encuentro de Diana con la magia y los secretos que la envuelven. Hay dos temporadas más que continúan exactamente donde queda el capítulo final de la temporada anterior y al parecer la tercera es la última, no he llegado hasta ahí para saber cómo termina la historia pero dónde voy me gusta y la primera la disfruté bastante.

Nous avons récemment regardé cette série, composée de 3 saisons seulement, puisqu'elle est adaptée d'une trilogie de romans éponymes, écrite par Deborah Harkness.

Les séries et les films qui parlent de sorcières, nous apprécions beaucoup quand c'est de bonne qualité.

Synopsis :

Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer) est historienne à Oxford et elle est également sorcière, née de parents sorciers, décédés quand elle était encore bien jeune. Elle avait alors été confiée aux bons soins de sa tante, également sorcière. Sa tante vit actuellement aux Etats-Unis avec sa compagne (sorcière).

Diana est amenée à consulter de vieux livres à la bibliothèque, dans le cadre de son métier. Elle les demande à la préposée qui envoie la liste au sous-sol. D'abord indiqué comme manquant, un livre est finalement présent. Diana, en le consultant, provoquera une étrange réaction.

Nous apprendrons que ce livre est très recherché par différents types de créatures (sorciers, vampires, démons). La réaction provoquée par Diana est comme ressentie par les créatures qui rôdent déjà autour d'elle sans qu'elle ne s'en soit aperçue jusqu'ici. Cela va changer pas mal de choses et elle va découvrir un monde qui lui était fermé depuis son enfance, par un sortilège effectué par ses parents, pour la protéger.

Mon avis et petites infos :

Je ne vous ai parlé, ici, que du début de la 1ère saison pour ne pas spoiler, car cela ruinerait le suspense. Nous avons beaucoup aimé cette série et la fin est bien soignée. Matthew Goode incarne Matthew de Clairmont, un chercheur en biochimie qui est aussi un vampire. Cela le change de l'amateur de voitures, Mr Talbot, qu'il jouait dans Downton Abbey. 😊

On y voit aussi d'autres acteurs connus tels que Owen Teale, Alex Kingston ou encore Toby Regbo.

Je vous parlerai bientôt d'une mini-série que nous avons déjà visionnée aussi.

I really enjoy the fantasy genre, but if it is sprinkled with some drama, romance and suspense, so much the better, so a few days ago among so many possibilities in the Netflix catalog I found a series that caught my attention what I did not know was that it is based on a series of novels by author Deborah Harkness whose trilogy is known as Trilogy of All Souls. It is from one of these books that the series takes its name.

Finally, The Discovery of the Witches with three seasons in an option to have a good time, I do not know if a fourth season will come, as there is a book after the three that were recreated in this series, but it is certainly a good option, which in the middle of its second season also gives us a bit of time, as they travel to the sixteenth century.

De esta serie me gusto el que las criaturas que quedaban, en este caso tres especies vampiros, brujas y demonios tienen un consejo que rige las decisiones, en el que se supone debería existir igualdad, pero que es prácticamente dominado por los vampiros seguidos de las brujas, marginando a los demonios

No presentan también, como entre cada especie hay unos seres más fuertes que otros, y como con el paso del tiempo, cada una de las especies está siendo afectada de diferentes maneras. Además, es notable que en el tiempo ser perdió mucha información de lo que es el contenido del libro.

De los actores destacan Matthew Goode, quien interpreta a Matthew Clermont, también la interpretación de Trevor Eve como Gerbert. Me encanto ver al actor James Purefoy como Philippe Clermont. En cuanto a personajes, Gallowglass interpretado por Steven Cree me fascinó, un vampiro en parte nórdico y en parte escocés, procedente de Irlanda.

Como protagonista tenemos a Teresa Palmer, que en algunos aspectos de su personaje realiza un buen desempeño, cambia la forma de pensar y comportarse de quienes la conocen. Pero en otros se queda corta. Por ejemplo, cuando realiza movimientos de mano para realizar hechizos, pareciera faltarle pasión en esa parte de la actuación.

Esta serie que en buena parte fantasía, pero tiene sus cosas oscuras y que me hicieron pensar, por ejemplo en porque en tantas series y películas relacionan a New Orleans con seres como vampiros, al mismo tiempo no puede evitar compararla con otras sagas como Crepúsculo, pero en líneas generales aunque a veces sus efectos no son los mejores es interesante verla, ya que nos sumerge en un mundo lleno de intrigas misterio y hasta ciencia, ya que se llega a buscar algunas soluciones a problemas estudiando el ADN.

Finalmente, El Descubrimiento de las Brujas con tres temporadas en una opción para pasar un buen rato, desconozco si vendrá una cuarta temporada, ya que hay un libro posterior a los tres que se recrearon en esta serie, pero sin duda es una buena opción, la cual en medio de su segunda temporada nos da también un poco de época, ya que viajan al siglo XVI.

This series awakened a spark in me when I was in the dark side of life, I have always been attracted to these topics and the clean way in which the series was developed really makes a good impression. The main characters have an undeniable chemistry, they are both serious people, which makes it interesting to see how their romance develops with such intensity (this is key in the series since they basically have to be together).

This is not a rose-colored fantasy story, yes, it has a lot of romance, but I consider that it is not over the top and it fits well with the development of the story (it is necessary all the emphasis on the relationship between Diana and Matthew). When watching the series we find dark scenarios that at the same time are picturesque, well done characters, good special effects and even time travel (I loved the season that covers time travel), no doubt, if you like this kind of series, this one will hook you.

Esta serie avivó una chispa en mí cuando andaba medio dark por la vida, siempre me han llamado la atención estos temas y la forma tan limpia en la que la serie fue desarrollada de verdad causa una buena impresión. Los protagonistas tienen una química innegable, los dos son personas serias, lo que hace interesante ver como se desarrolla su romance con tanta intensidad (esto resulta algo clave en la serie, ya que ellos básicamente tienen que estar juntos).

Esta no es una historia de fantasía color de rosa, sí, tiene mucho romance, pero considero que no es empalagoso y queda bien con el desarrollo de la historia (es necesario todo el énfasis en la relación entre Diana y Matthew). Al ver la serie nos encontramos con escenarios oscuros que al mismo tiempo son pintorescos, personajes bien logrados, buenos efectos especiales y hasta viajes en el tiempo (la temporada que abarca el viaje en el tiempo me encanto), sin duda si te gustan este tipo de series, esta te va a enganchar.
