Without following patterns, I watch the film and let my fingers move to the rhythm of my impressions about it.

Hello friends of the cinephile community par excellence, I have had the opportunity to see again a film production that made me travel back in time and relive the sensations and memories I had about it; the magic of cinema remains intact and it was by chance that I came across this work of American director Samuel Raimi, a film full of curious situations that are intermingled in somewhat strange emotions hahaha; Surely when the name "A Simple Plan" tells you something, you will understand what I'm talking about; since it is a 1998 film, starring Bill Paxton (in the role of Hank), Billy Bob Thorton (Jacob, Hank's brother), the always beautiful Bridget Fonda (Sarah, Hank's wife) and Brent Briscoe (as Lou, a mutual friend).

This great cast makes up a team that will do what it should and what it shouldn't, to make us spend time in full enjoyment of the unexpected events in the plot, in an admirable order; this is how Hank, Jacob and his friend Lou, during New Year's Day, make a strange and attractive finding in the least thought way; one that will change the meaning of their lives completely. There is nothing worse than taking care of something that is not ours hahaha and that has happened to this group of friends, every bad decision they have made has led to even worse ones, which aggravate the scenario for these "Lucky unlucky ones". And the fact is that bad luck will always bring bad things, so goes an old saying in my land.

The truth is that, instead of benefits, having obtained this kind of treasure brought them the resurgence of the demons that human beings carry inside. Antivalues such as lying, greed, betrayal and mistrust will be at the surface and what they should have solved with "a simple plan" turned into a nightmare. In every team there should be frank communication, which generates the necessary trust so that the ghosts of dishonesty and lies disappear and do not damage the bonds of friendship that exist, but in reality, do they exist? As I watch the tape it is inevitable for me to think: What would I have done in that case? Hahaha, that's what I mean about the entertainment of the film, that is, when you like movies, you let it flow and do its job.

One of the strangest things in life is that we usually do not say everything we feel or think, especially when it comes to relationships between family members, that is a disadvantage when it comes to having to be absolutely honest; well, this personal appreciation on my part, is fully manifested in the film and the way Jacob tells his brother Hank, the things he thinks and his point of view on past events, simply hooked me. This is a deep family drama that comes to the surface at the worst of times, as these gentlemen are going through a critical moment and go from mistake to mistake, one worse than the other, in a seemingly endless road.

With the unexpected twists and turns this film has taken, I never fail to be impressed again, seeing the crazy things that happen after the great tension generated in the final 30 minutes; A great annoyance in vain, the hope of winning with something that is simply untouchable. It could easily have been called "Cursed Money"; one that is ultimately worth nothing more than having a clear conscience. Do I recommend it? Of course I do. It hasn't been gratuitous, the new experience of watching it after so many years, but after spending almost two hours remembering every scene, I've been left with a bit of nostalgia and a sort of feeling of sadness. I find it almost impossible not to empathize with Hank and his inner storm.

    See you next time!

  3. A simple plan (film): fantastic movie many skipped@gooddream2774d

I've been thinking a lot about Billy Bob Thornton lately because I am watching season 1 of Fargo and am still in awe at how someone as small as Thornton could be so intimidating. I mean, he really nails it. I hadn't really ever paid the man much attention but he is a really fantastic actor. Enter A Simple Plan

This movie lost money and I suppose we are going to have to chalk that up to how difficult it could be to market a film like this. It is tough to make it look exciting without giving away crucial plot details.

Basically, a group of friends (two of which are brothers) who live simple lives and are for the most part quite content with continuing to do so in rural Minnesota stumble upon a plane crash that contains a butt-ton of money. Rather than turn it in to the authorities they decide to hide it and keep it for themselves.

The plan, laid out by Hank Mitchel (Bill Paxton) who is one of the only college graduates in the community seems.... simple. However, it wouldn't be much of a movie if they just waited a while and then got away with the money with no repercussions. Much like any movie with a similar plot, things go wrong... mo money mo problems so to speak.

There is something about Bill Paxton's acting in really anything that gets under my skin so it should come as no surprise that I suggest that Thornton's portrayal of Jacob Mitchell, Hank's brother, really steals the show.

    a-simple-plan.png

He invokes genuine emotion in the viewer as he plays a socially awkward simpleton of sorts that has relied on his brother for guidance pretty much his entire life. You will appreciate his involvement in this movie... fo sho.

Trailer is a bit long but it does a good job of not revealing too much. Overall, this movie is perhaps a bit predictable, but Billy Bob's endearing portrayal of Jacob is all the reason you really need to watch this. So this isn't exactly an epic film, but it is good. It is entertaining and also it is realistic as to how money can change people, especially ill-gotten gains like this. I can't believe that this movie ended up losing money because as Paxton goes, it is one of his less-crap performances.

  4. A Simple Plan (film): Great movie you probably haven't seen@gooddream2858d

Bill Paxton has a lot of great movies out there that most people haven't seen and this is a good thing if you have a lot of time on your hands. Unfortunately, Bill died recently and people are starting to talk about the movies he was in that are not Twister.

    1200x630bb.jpg

Hank Mitchell (Paxton) discovers a crashed airplane in Minnesota that contains four million dollars one day in his relatively mundane life. Rather than turn the cash is he decides to pretend as though it was never found and thus begins a horrible tragedy that eventually devours what was previously his happy (albeit boring) life.

There are various ideas presented by Hank's family members that he lets in on the secret about how the influx of cash should be handled but just like any secret, word travels. This results in introducing multiple other people into the equation that shouldn't be involved in this very secretive problem to begin with.

    simpleplan3.jpg

While Paxton is great in this film, the real star of the entire ordeal is Billy Bob Thornton, who plays the brother of Paxton named "Jacob," who is a good guy but lacks any sort of real social skills. Kind at heart, yet quite simple; Jacob is such a heart-touching character and I feel that Billy Bob truly deserved his Oscar nomination for the portrayal.

I don't want to spoil the film but the reason that you should definitely see this film is because it is relatable. If any of us found ourselves in this same situation there is a really good chance that good people (and I like to believe I am that) could change in the face of immense wealth all of a sudden literally dropping in front of us.

If you have any sort of attachment to the Midwest in USA you may have an extra chance to be able to relate to the characters in this movie. I am from that part of the states and I can say without question, that the actors involved did a very good job displaying what life is like in what is generally regarded as a less-than-glamorous part of the States.

watch this movie; you will not regret it
