I want to start this post by saying that although I am far from considering myself a Taylor Swift fan, I cannot deny that All Too Well - The Short Film is one of the audiovisual pieces of greatest quality I have seen so far this year.

Emerging from the recent extended version of a song of the same name dating back to 2012 (Premiered on the album "Red") All Too Well is a surprising work that perfectly blends great direction with good music and a romantic but heartbreaking story.

Over a mere 14 minutes under the direction and writing of Taylor herself, All Too Well operates as a kind of flashback to what was probably one of the most heartbreaking relationships of her life (Take this information with a grain of salt, I am not exactly an expert on the subject), mimicking a series of key moments that led to its formation and subsequent breakup.

The greatest triumph of this intimate short lies in the ease that Taylor has to make us connect with a love relationship even though on a personal level there are no tangible elements to make us feel identified, through his own direction and the brilliant performance of Dylan O'Brien and Sadie Sink (who stars in the short and has such a great level of chemistry that it hurts) it's easy to dive into this romantic and destructive spiral that realistically portrays what it means to fall in love, get your heart broken and lose your innocence in the process.

All Too Well is a constant barrage of visuals that exist to reinforce his own story, a story that is guided for the most part by the rhythm and lyrics of the song that gave it its name. Anyone who knows at least a little about cinema understands that it is not exactly easy to transfer the “feel” of being in love to a bunch of frames, especially when it comes to a relationship that initially broke you, helped you evolve and ended up serving as testament to your own growth.

Taylor Swift may be an artist who does not align with our personal tastes, but that should not stop my desire to say that All Too Well is an impressive piece, exalted in each of its aspects and a container of sadness and optimism in almost equal amounts.
