Greetings to everyone in The Anime Realm community. Today I'm joining you here to share a new Japanese animation review. This time, it's "Berserk," a manga written by Kentaro Miura and animated by Oriental Light and Magic and produced by Nippon Television in 1997, directed by Naohito Takahashi. Then in 2016. It's a classic of the Dark Fantasy, Epic Fantasy, and, if it could be translated into something more... Horror genres. Although the latter could be debatable depending on who's watching. The truth is, "Berserk" is a classic that has transcended time, and here I'll tell you why. So join me.

Set in medieval times, the story centers on Guts, a young mercenary who works for himself and lives day to day without many pretensions. Guts was marked as a child by a series of violent events that led him to develop a strong, practical, stoic, and somewhat pessimistic personality. However, he maintains his own principles and is not someone who feels alienated in the face of injustice or incapable of feeling affection for others. A hardened warrior, Guts strives to survive in this harsh world full of hardships. One day, he meets Griffith, the leader of the Hawk Gang, a group of warriors who follow their own laws. Although Guts is a loner, the two soon become involved in a brotherhood, where they fight to follow the ideals of the gang and, therefore, Griffith's. In the process, he also meets Casca, a young guerrilla with whom he later forms a meaningful relationship. Amidst a facade of apparent well-being, Guts will eventually discover the fragility of that union.

Berserk is worth watching because it's an anime that openly addresses and conveys somewhat sensitive topics, and does so in a way that (although crude) feels quite authentic. For example, it addresses themes such as the relationship between the mundane and the divine (although the latter would be more "the cursed"), self-improvement and ambition (the duality of Guts and Griffith), betrayal and revenge, and how harsh life can be when you're born and raised in the most inopportune place and time. Of course, these are things that have been seen many times in other anime, but the treatment given here is good. And it also fits, because what can you expect from the medieval world but precariousness, a half-baked society, and many resolutions made through hardship?

Although the anime went through a series of changes and difficulties that left some chapters here and there that must be watched in a certain order, plus the fact that its author couldn't finish it in time, Berserk is finished and we can enjoy it. I'd like to avoid adding too much sugar to it, as I always think everyone will have their own opinion on the matter, but it all comes down to the experience each of us has in front of the screen. And well, Berserk is a strange mix of many things that ultimately work together. If you like anime that revolves around war, existentialism, horror, fantasy, and a bit of romance, you should give it a try. Without further ado, thank you so much for stopping by and reading my post.

Rest of the news: new anime on Netflix - HnI: NC & Rising, Undead Unluck, Solo Leveling LA, Xbox Developer Direct, Sonic 4, Invinsible S4, Lazarus, Idolish S4, Go! Go! Loser Ranger 2

[Dragon Ball Sparking Zero] You can play the new DLC from Thursday. I do not recommend buying it. Although I have not played this game, I hear from many sources that DLC for new games from DB is a failure. A high price for little entertainment. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2025-01-17/dragon-ball-sparking-zero-game-trailer-reveals-january-23-launch-for-1st-dlc-pack-hero-of-justice/.220158

[HxH] And speaking of battle-shounens, we got another video promoting the game HxH. I'll admit honestly that just as I was waiting for this game at the beginning, with each subsequent video it looks poorer and poorer. It seems to me that the graphics in the first videos were more comic-book-like. I also feel less and less the atmosphere of Togashi's comic. I'll probably play it, but I won't buy this game for full price. Premiere in September. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2025-01-26/hunter-x-hunter-nen-x-impact-fighting-game-trailer-reveals-kite/.220467

[Peleliu: Guernica of Paradise] A new film from Shin-Ei Animation and Fugaku will be released in Japanese cinemas on December 5. I really like the idea of the film, a combination of an idea similar to Bakuman with the story of the Pacific War. It could be a really great, artistic film. https://www.facebook.com/LiveChart.me/posts/pfbid02DcUxWkoHQii8FnV4N21XBhHXa59QMcfnepBzc8sKXfHLbhGLvNkSBd3KUufjzj9l

[Dragon Ball Sparking Zero] Od czwartku możecie zagrać w nowe DLC. Nie polecam go kupować.

[HxH] A skoro mowa o battle-shounenach, dostaliśmy kolejny filmik promujący grę HxH. Premiera we wrześniu. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2025-01-26/hunter-x-hunter-nen-x-impact-fighting-game-trailer-reveals-kite/.220467

Hey there, Hive!✨

It's been a while since I last posted something in this community, but I'm glad to be back to talk about the best manga I've ever read: Berserk. Like almost anyone who talks about this story, I can say right away that I simply love it in every way, but I want to go into more detail about why I love this story and that's what this post is for. So keep reading if you want to know my opinion, which, as usual, will contain some spoilers but not too many, because this story is best to be discovered by yourself...

    Synopsis

Berserk (ベルセルク) is a seinen created by Kentaro Miura, who made his first publication in 1989, dealing with a dark fantasy and action story that is still unfinished. Guts is a mercenary who lives in a medieval world, who has not had an easy life, to put it in some way. From his tragic birth, through his childhood, adolescence and adulthood, he has had to face atrocities beyond his own imagination.

Now he is on a frenetic destructive journey, because he has sworn to kill all the demons he finds in his path until he reaches him, until he reaches the White Falcon and takes revenge.

If you are someone who has not yet read this manga, you should keep in mind that it is probably the most raw and difficult to digest story you will ever read. Although its pace is fast, what makes it difficult to read is the subject matter. Berserk is an incredibly explicit and graphic manga, so reading it is definitely not for everyone. It will make you uncomfortable even if you are used to this type of reading because the panels with overwhelming content are frequent and extensive. This story is tragic, the things that cause this are deeply traumatizing for the characters because that is the idea, that things happen to them that completely break them, heartbreaking things that break their spirit and plunge them into terrible sorrow or corrupt them.

For those who do not frequently read this type of stories I would not recommend it at all, but for those of us who like to read things that, although they are disturbing, have a powerful message, this manga is perfect. Berserk pushes a lot of boundaries with how cruel and disturbing the story can be; it not only suggests things but shows them almost without any censorship, so the intention is to stir something in the reader, you must feel at least uncomfortable because then you could weigh the weight that can fall on the characters when experiencing such things, coming to feel empathy and pity for many of them, repulsion and hatred for many others.

Among the various mental disorders that are represented in this work, the main one is post-traumatic stress disorder, but I like that they don't just show a representation of the consequences of this, but they show different reactions to a severe trauma. For example, for Guts it is excessive anger, isolation and emotional insensitivity; for Casca it is the state of catatonia. In this story many characters suffer different types of trauma, but it is interesting to see how this affects each one of them differently, representing how each person handles situations in different ways depending on their personality and the resources they have.

Of course here we are in a fantasy world where many of these traumatic events are fantasy, but I consider that it is a clear way to represent the horrors that someone can live and how their life changes drastically. Because even the strongest can break, even the villain shows his weaknesses, which shows that human nature is vulnerable and no one can escape that (unless you stop being human, but this does not happen in real life).

We also read here how complicated interpersonal relationships are, with both the good and the bad being represented, but not as opposite poles, but as diffuse aspects that can be present in a romantic relationship, friendship, partnership or family. Nothing is black or white, everything has nuances. Apart from that, these relationships are represented as deeper bonds than usual, as is the case of Guts and Griffith. Saying that they were friends is the basic explanation, although yes, that's what they were. But there is also a deep bond since both understand each other, both are able to distinguish aspects of the other that they admire, envy, desire or even despise. They love each other deeply because they were both each other's salvation at one point, but greed drove them apart, as did the fact that they didn't accept that although they had similarities, they were actually quite different.

The morality of all the main characters is questionable. None of them is completely good or bad, although obviously the balance tends to lean more to one side depending on the case and there are cases where they are completely bad or good but mostly they are secondary characters. Still, when you discover the intentions of each one is when you make the decision of whether you like them or not, whether you empathize with them or hate them.

The only character I do not intend to defend is Griffith. The person he is can be explained by his traumas but that is just it, it is explained but for me there is no justification whatsoever. I understand his motivations but under no circumstances are they enough to justify everything he does. There are people who defend him for being another character who also suffers, but no, people, that is not enough to defend him. He is for me a truly bad character with whom it is impossible to empathize. But do not get me wrong, that is fine because that is what he was made for.

However, I must admit that Griffith does show feelings that seem genuine, but even for him that was not enough reason to stop pursuing his bloody dream.

On the other hand, there is Guts, the warrior immersed in his own suffering who, even after everything he has lived through, despite his life being described as totally tragic, continues to fight. He is the protagonist because it is with his story that we see the main message of this work: despite everything, you must continue to fight. I know that Berserk is full of so many atrocities that it seems like a horror manga, it becomes difficult to see this message in everything that happens, but if you really analyze it, we see that Guts is an example of resilience and perseverance because despite what he has lived through, he finds hope, he finds noble feelings in the people who really get close to him. Although with each test a new trauma is added, he continues to fight to achieve his peace, going through each difficulty with fear and courage, because he knows that nothing is done by simply lamenting the situation.

Beyond the representation of the great warrior skilled in battle, full of strength and bravery, he represents the strength of spirit, resilience, self-improvement, all these things that are true strength. And perhaps that was Kentaro's message, telling the world not to give up, to keep fighting despite the cruelty and hopelessness we face every day. Although I don't know how this story will end (if they manage to give it an ending), even though I doubt it will be perfect, I hope it will be hopeful. Yes, apart from all the constant horror in its pages I want a good ending for Guts, but who knows what will happen.

Lastly, I can't help but mention how wonderful, how absurdly incredible the illustration of Berserk was. The level of detail is unmatched, for pure visual delight it is worth reading this manga because I sincerely believe that there are no illustrations like this anymore. But I also recommend that you read this story if you haven't already because it has an important message, which can mean a lot to you if you are facing a difficult situation, and also because the action and fantasy are great. This story is excellently well written and structured, being for me a masterpiece.

    ¡Hola, Hive!✨

    ENGLISH CONTENT

Hello to all the members of this community and anime lovers! I am not a fan of the shonen genre, although I admit that when I was a child, I enjoyed anime of this genre such as Dragon Ball or Saint Seiya, when I discovered that there were other types of genres more in line with my more sentimental tastes, my consumption of shonen anime was considerably reduced. Even so, I am the kind of person who is able to give an anime a chance because of how good its plot is, even if it does not belong to the genre that I like, as happened with Shingeki no Kyojin (I will tell you about that later 👀).

Anyway, my older brother @babarois has a pretty good taste when it comes to finding series, movies and animes that end up hooking me and when one day he told me with great enthusiasm: "You have to watch Berserk" (he was reading the manga too), I was intrigued, so I decided to give it a chance... I confess, I saw the anime months ago, but I forgot to talk about it or I think it left me so emotionally destroyed that I just wanted to stop thinking about it haha So, now that my emotional stability is well enough to talk about it, today I bring you what I consider a "gem" among animes and "novels" for men 😎

    25-01-12-16-06-46-318_deco.jpg

The story revolves around the poor man named Guts (or "Gustavo", for the friends of the fandom 😆), who since birth, seems to have been marked by misfortune. From a very young age he had to learn to fight and defend himself, going through several traumatic events, until he ended up becoming a powerful warrior who carries a huge sword. Usually Guts appeared on the battlefields simply to quench his thirst for blood and then, he disappeared. He was like a kind of "wandering fighter" and he must have remained that way...

    image.png

Until one day he runs into Griffith, an ambitious boy who dreams of power and is impressed by his determination when it comes to fighting, so he wants him to be part of his men. However, Guts refuses because he doesn't trust anything or anyone (with more than justified reasons) and he is even less interested in serving the ideals of others. That's when Griffith challenges him, completely determined to have him by his side.

    image.png

As a result of the confrontation, Guts is defeated by Griffith and ends up joining his troops, where he gets to know this mysterious boy better, learns what it means to have friends and to belong to something, love, as well as having a different goal than simply fighting to survive... Only to find that everything he has obtained, is going to disappear before his eyes in the most tragic and bloodthirsty way possible, by the work of a man's greed or by the very "hand of God", a transcendental law according to which, the destiny of each individual is sealed from birth.

Click to read my opinion on the anime

I'm going to say it... I love this dark and dramatic story. It's true, it's a terrible plot where it seems that no one can be happy... but despite its crudeness, I find it quite "realistic". I think that the vision of "the world is cruel" is handled very well and in an environment where we are used to stories where at some point the protagonists achieve their dreams and are happy, this type of plots offer you the other side of the coin and in a way, lead you to be grateful for not being in the shoes of those poor characters.

The soundtrack is spectacular. It's perfect for the situations in which they are presented and the "Behelit" theme has become one of my favorites. I think it perfectly reflects "despair" and if you listen to it on loop for an hour, you can end up feeling anxious (I already did 😆). Between the opening and the ending, I prefer the latter. Every time I finished an episode and my chicken heart was broken, the ending only extended my agony... simply sublime 🍷

The characters are endearing. It's impossible not to feel sad with each of the characters that appear, especially when you get to know them. The character of Guts causes me a lot of feeling, because I kept seeing that little boy who had to mature before his time to be able to survive in a horrendous time and universe where he was destined to suffer hardships. Seeing him suffer was heartbreaking for me. He deserved to be healed and receive relief after so much pain... but oh well. Unfortunately, that's not how his author wanted it.

Continuing to talk about the characters, I have to talk about Cazca. I love that woman, at first yes... her temper seemed a bit irritating to me, but as the episodes go by you start to understand why she acts the way she does, not to mention that she is a woman who basically had to abandon her femininity and become a strong warrior in the midst of the brutality of the battlefield. I realized that there is an unjustified hatred towards this character that, without a doubt, ends up being part of the relief for poor Guts... and of course, the last episode where what I will call "the horrible thing" happens to him, left me shocked and unable to overcome it in the present.

Griffith... I had never met a character that I didn't end up hating terribly. I still can't believe how he dared to do everything he did... but well, I don't want this to become a corner of complaints towards the character haha but I consider that his "decision" only shows us that although humans have the power to choose their path, that doesn't mean that it benefits others...

I didn't have the slightest idea of what was going to happen in this anime, because I didn't look for any information so as not to spoil myself, so every single thing that happened left me suffering and with a sadness 😭 But I consider that was what made my enjoyment more authentic. I consider myself a "masochist" who feels delight for this type of stories, but in the sense that I like to find the "beauty" in the middle of that tragedy. As for Berserk, I think I can highlight how in the middle of so much suffering, Guts and Cazca's hope and love were able to remain... despite well... Femto's constant intervention.

It's a terrible, beautiful, majestic, dramatic, sadistic and unique anime. It tells you a raw and direct story, like a "knife stab" 🙃 If you are not a sensitive heart, I recommend this anime. It has become one of my favorites and I will definitely watch it again, even though I don't like bloody scenes... but such a magnificent story is worth it.

Griffith...

  5. Berserk Of Gluttony Review : The Anime that Focuses More On The Action than the Animation Itself [ENG/ESP]@iam-siki790d

    image.png

I've watched a lot of anime that deals with adventure, most of which are isekai; there are others that aren't isekai, just pure adventure and fantasy. This made me discover this anime known as 'Berserk of the Gluttony'.

This anime was one of the ones I found by coincidence. I love searching for some nice and good anime; sometimes I check reviews, while other times I don't, so I just have to see it for myself. So late last year, I came across it and decided to watch it when I was browsing through an anime website, so I decided to watch it. When I was checking through my laptop yesterday, I saw it, and I just had to revisit some scenes again (I didn't watch it from the beginning though, just checking through some fights), which reminded me of how good the adventure was.

Berserk of Gluttony (Japanese: 暴食のベルセルク ~俺だけレベルという概念を突破する~, Hepburn: Bōshoku no Beruseruku Ore dake Reberu to Iu Gainen wo Toppa suru, "Berserk of Gluttony: The One That Exceeds the Concept of Levels") is a Japanese light novel series written by Ichika Isshiki and illustrated by fame. Isshiki started publishing the series on the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō in January 2017 and it was later moved to Kakuyomu in March 2022. The first novel volume was released in November 2017. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Daisuke Takino, started in Micro Magazine's online magazine Comic Ride in March 2018. An anime television series adaptation produced by A.C.G.T aired from October to December 2023. Source

This story strongly starts with a boy named "Fate Graphite," who works for a noble family as a gatekeeper. Though gatekeeping isn't his duty, he often works for the holy knights to keep the place from harm and wasn't treated well due to his skill. He is someone who was considered to have a useless skill known as "gluttony.". In a world where having skill is important, he is always considered useless and is humiliated and assaulted because of it. But there's only one person who always stands up for him; her name is "Roxy." "Roxy" is like a black sheep among the members of the holy knights (considering that the holy knights are bad), having a very good and warm heart towards him and wanting to help him. This made him admire her and also help her with gatekeeping.

    ---

One day, while saving a young girl from danger, Fate accidentally kills a bandit, awakening his gluttony ability. As the movie progresses, it becomes clear that his power only grows stronger, but the more powerful it becomes, the more skills and power he needs to absorb, as it would make him go berserk, if he doesn't, endangering the people around him, including his friends and loved ones. Thus, he embarks on an adventure, hunting down monsters and creatures with higher skills. Along the way, he encounters a very powerful sword named "Greed."

The movie later shows the secrets behind Fate's powers, the mystery behind the sword and the connection between the two powers, introducing other characters with similar abilities as the story goes on.

When watching a movie, I don't want to overcomplicate things, but I want to enjoy the adventure side of the movie. Actually, the start of this anime is really incredible. They actually start off on a great foot, which makes this anime very interesting to watch and raises my expectations for the plot of the anime. It raises a lot of questions as to where the ending might be, but along the line, it lost its touch, maybe due to the very high expectations it raised. Though it's not lost completely, it still offers a very interesting adventure.

This anime also introduces some romance, as we see the drama and feelings between Fate and Roxy, This part indeed made the anime interesting and entertaining. The fact that fate doesn't want to show Roxy his true self while also hiding his powers from others is also interesting.

The parts I enjoy the most are the fight, you know, when the main character is very powerful and is fighting monsters to save a lot of people and also some monsters that have skills greater than his; due to this, he'll have to devise some tactics to take the monster down and other things. And also, I like the looks on the faces of the bad people after realizing that his power is far greater. It's interesting to watch.

The art style is really simple, and I really like it. It gives a very simple vibe and adds a unique touch, different from anime like "Mushoku Tensei". Moreover, the sound is really good. The opening and ending music are really amazing, but I liked the opening more. Also, the background music fits the anime well.

The part I really dislike about this anime is the animation. It's really bad for the kind of anime of this age. The animation is very static, especially during fights. It makes it look like watching old animations. It seems like the producers were on a low budget but really wanted to complete it on time. This anime was produced in 2023, so I expected good animation for this kind of adventure fantasy anime. After watching anime like Demon Slayer and One Piece, I expected more from this, which kind of breaks my heart.

So after finishing this anime, I had this feeling that the producer just quickly ended the season due to certain factors (well, just my feeling though). I felt the need for a season two because there're different questions left unanswered and different, and some things needed to be done for me to be totally satisfied with it, and I hope they can start season 2 soon. Due to this, I'm hoping for a very good season 2. Well, before that, I'll just dive to the manga to satisfy my curiosity.

Overall, this anime really offers a simple story, great adventure, and nice fights. Though the animation is bad, the art still offers a very simple taste, and the whole plot is okay. With that, I'll give it a rating of 7/10.

That brings me to the end of my post. I hope you enjoyed it. See you next time, bye 👋.

  6. Berserk, Tokyo Ghoul: Manga that deserve a Brotherhood [ENG/ESP]@ibet884d

Hi, how are you? I'm glad to greet you for the first time this week and for the first time this month, last month went by very fast (I know it lasted 80 days for many lol) compared to previous years. In the anime/manga world, we have had exceptional adaptations, some not so good and others that.... They are a disaster, and today, I bring you two series that for me deserve to have a Brotherhood.

While I haven't seen (I still have it pending) Fullmetal Alchemist, I obviously know the context of it and that's why I make the reference to said series, having said that, I'll start.

Some time ago I made a post about the manga of Berserk, in which several people asked me if it had an anime adaptation and yes, it has two adaptations, but, they were not to the liking of many. I, in order to have a more objective opinion, I took a look at both versions and I must say that the 1997 adaptation is better than the 2017 one, but, it only adapts the first chapters of the manga and ends in the eclipse, its good point is that it is quite faithful to the manga. The 2017 version is full of CGI (the bad kind) and at least for me is quite uncomfortable to watch, it adapts a very good arc, but the way it is adapted is what I criticize and practically everyone who talks about the adaptations of Berserk.

    Source

Sincerely I think it is a very good manga that deserves a very good adaptation that is up to par, although there are many fans of Berserk, maybe the animation studios do not want to risk because (if you have read the manga you will know) the story and the drawing are quite complex and maybe, just maybe, it will not be mainstream as many anime that come out now. Oh, there are also two movies that adapt a part of the story, in case you want to see them.

    Tokyo Ghoul

    Source

I have also talked about this one once and I take this opportunity to recommend you to read the manga, it is very good. The one that is not good is Pierrot, the studio in charge of that disaster of adaptation of Tokyo Ghoul, although the first season was decent (because they cut many things), from the second season everything went downhill, and come on, I know that the author wanted to try another direction for the story, but Pierrot did what he wanted and it came out a poop, and with the later seasons they wanted to adapt the manga as it was and it came out worse, I still remember the hype that raised the first season and also the mythical opening Unravel and everything went downhill after that.

    Source

I think the Tokyo Ghoul manga deserves a good adaptation faithful to the manga, because it's pretty good from the beginning and there's no need to change anything, well, the ending might not please many but I thought it was pretty decent, it has everything to be a successful adaptation.

And well, that's my opinion, I think these two series deserve to be adapted again and this time to adapt them well, but I think it will remain in a dream, I do not think they will adapt them again but I would like them to do it. Let me know what you think about this and what other series you think deserve a Brotherhood, I'll say goodbye for now, thank you very much for reading and see you later in another post ❤️

  7. Berserk: A very crude manga [ENG/ESP]@ibet1024d

    ENG

    Source

Hello again dear community, this time I come to talk about a very appreciated manga that, surely if you have not read it, you have heard of it. It is a quite dark and explicit work, but the story is quite good and if you have the opportunity read it you will not regret it....

Berserk is a manga series written and illustrated by Kentaro Miura, which is published from 1989 to 2021, the year in which unfortunately the author died and this work so far is unfinished. It is a dark fantasy work set in a world inspired by medieval Europe, where the story of Guts, a lone swordsman, and Griffith, the leader of a band of mercenaries called "The Band of the Hawk" is told. The series follows Guts' journey to seek revenge against Griffith, who betrayed him and sacrificed his companions to become a powerful demonic being.

Berserk is characterized by its complex and epic plot, deep characters, explicit violence and detailed and realistic art. The manga deals with themes such as destiny, freedom, good and evil, friendship, love, betrayal, ambition, war, religion and human nature. Throughout the story, different story arcs are explored, ranging from pitched battles between kingdoms to supernatural adventures in astral worlds.

The manga is divided into three main parts: The Golden Age, The Age of Darkness and The Fantastic Age. The first part tells Guts' past and his relationship with Griffith and the Band of the Hawk, from the time he joined them until he witnessed the Eclipse, an infernal ritual where Griffith was transformed into one of the Five Angels, the supreme beings of evil. The second part shows Guts' present as the Black Swordsman, a cursed warrior who fights against the Apostles, the monsters in the service of the Angels, and seeks to rescue Casca, his beloved who lost her mind after the Eclipse. The third part tells the story of Guts and his new companions' journey to Elfhelm, the realm of the elves, where they hope to find a cure for Casca and refuge from their enemies.

Berserk is a series that has received numerous accolades and recognitions for its narrative and artistic quality. It has been adapted into anime several times: a 25-episode television series that covered the Golden Age arc (1997-1998), a trilogy of films that also adapted that arc (2012-2013), and another 24-episode television series that continued the story from the end of Eclipse (2016-2017). In addition, it has had several video game, theatrical and novel adaptations. As of October 2022, the manga had sold over 55 million copies worldwide, making it one of the most successful manga of all time. I personally never saw the anime adaptations (which many say are bad) as I only wanted to read the manga because of the bad references....

Berserk is a masterpiece of manga, a gripping and exciting story that grips the reader from the first page to the last. It is a work that invites us to reflect on life and its contradictions, on dreams and nightmares, on heroism and horror. It is a work that challenges the limits of imagination and creativity, that deserves to be read and enjoyed by all manga and fantasy lovers. I want to know what you think of this work if you have already seen it and if not, I recommend it, but again, I warn you that it is quite crude and explicit. Thanks for reading and see you later in another post ❤️

    Berserk.

One of the most iconic manga of all time. It is considered a masterpiece by the community and not only. With obvious influences on a lot of other works of the medium, movies, games, books, etc. One of the most typical examples is Dark souls. The best shots from the planet Vormir in infinity war. Kentaro Miura is rightfully considered a legendary mangaka not only for the story of berserk but also for his design. Each panel overflows with detail and ingenuity. It perfectly conveys the movement of the characters, the gravity of the moment, the nature of the world and in general as panels and photographs (whichever term is more suitable for the medium) I think it's perfect. The character of Guts comfortably enters the pantheon of the best characters from any medium. As is the antagonist of the series, Griffith. Many who haven't read/seen berserk might see a simple archetypal chad wielding a giant sword and slaughtering demons. And to a degree, yes...it is. And it's totally fun. But that's not all. He is a deeply wounded character. Literally chased by demons, both psychological and literal, his whole life. And it is not classically expressed in history or linearly. I would say that his dynamic with griffith is perhaps my favorite protagonist-antagonist of all mediums/stories. Mura plays perfectly with the classic concept of what a hero should be, a villain, their perceptions and what they become when they achieve their goals and finally how they are perceived by their universe and the reader. Although the world takes a lot of elements from western fantasy, eg knights, castles, etc., it has everything else that someone can imagine, but without it being flawless. But the element that characterizes him more than anything else is how nightmarish he is. From the very first panels, he can easily drive a lot of people away with how hideous he is. And the best thing is that the nightmare is not only in the external appearance. The characters, whether of demonic or human origin, are the wet dream of every writer of this genre One of the flaws (the only one basically if you exclude the poor anime adaptations) is that here and several years we get at least one chapter per year. BUT, don't let that discourage you from experiencing what it has to offer so far. It is not unfairly one of the most influential works of art ever. And the eclipse is just around the corner (you will know when you get there). Regarding anime adaptations. The first of 1997, although it is good in general terms, it just doesn't capture the sensibility of the manga. It has an excellent soundtrack

  9. Berserk one of my favorite stories /Berserk una de mis historias favoritas [ESP-ENG]@belial24121547d

Hello to all friends, today I want to talk to you about one of my favorite animes of all time, I am talking about Berserk by the great mastere Kentaro Miura who doesn't have much left this world leaving his work incomplete but that doesn't take away from the fact that it is a masterpiece.

When I was younger in my country the distribution of anime was very limited so in order to find a new story we had to resort to piracy, unfortunately for me in the place where I lived there was no good internet connection so I had to travel to a great city to be able to buy dozens of animes on DVD and since I didn't know what most of the series were about, I always asked for the ones that were most popular among their buyers to come to me.

So I always arrived loaded with new series to discover, many of them I watched without pain or glory and among some others they were confusing or not at all to my liking and when I was lucky I found gems like Monster, Hellsing and another of these wonders it was Berserk

My first approach to Berserk was with the series of 25 chapters from 1997 that covers the arc of the union of the mercenary Gutz, the protagonist, with the band of the falcon, its rise and fall, the animation perhaps would not be at all striking in these times but at that moment it blew my mind it was dark but well defined.

I swear that this time I finished the series in a single day I was so caught up in the story, the fights and the brutality embodied in each scene that I needed more, what captivated me the most was the dark fantasy I did not know that such a genre existed until that moment and I was totally captivated, the use of fantastic elements brought to a plane of terror and gore were impressive and much better when the narrative was fluid and consistent with the story.

So to learn more I researched it on the internet and it was that I discovered that Berserk had a manga and I read it fervently, what was my surprise when I realized that the series I had seen was diluted and that some of the fantastic elements of the series They had been eliminated or reduced like the fairy Puck, Gutz's faithful companion, in addition to the violence in the pages being much more graphic.

Something that I can't stop telling you is that reading for me was heavy, there came times when I had to take a break to process all the information that my mind received to the point that sometimes I got to suffer small headaches, I can also tell you If you don't have a strong stomach or are afraid of supernatural stories, stay away from Berserk because it is full of all this.

Gutz the cursed swordsman born from a hanged corpse, raised in the middle of the battlefield, sold to be abused and betrayed by his adoptive father taught to kill from an early age in order to make a living as a wandering mercenary, hunted by demons whose only longing is to devour the flesh of the black swordsman who has sworn revenge on the one who betrayed him.

Berserk is a great story that sadly I will not have the pleasure of knowing its ending, I can assure you that the day I found out about the death of master Miura I could not help but shed some tears because my journey in the history of berserk had been abruptly interrupted in the what felt like one of the most difficult moments in history because it was already glimpsed what could be the last arc but we can no longer know that, if you want to read it even knowing that it does not have an ending, do it at your own risk even so I assure you that it is worth every second you invest in it, in addition to the first series, later other adaptations came out both in series and in movies that are quite good but nothing better than the manga.

Rest in peace the great Master Kentaro Miura.

Ai have found this awesome Berserk album in my collection of CD's and I thought why not share it with the world? Love this classical retro anime tunes from the 90s, can't get that stuff anymore today. There is also a 3D Animation Movie Triology called following the golden Arch, but I will never forget the 1997 animation series. And on top of that there is the manga, which is unspokenly the best of all three variants. Of course I played the dreamcast game, too. But i have to say, that the recent beserk game - band of the hawks is better experience. Definetly! I might make a video about it.

Eindeutig! Vielleicht mache ich ein Video darüber.

  11. (ESP-ENG) Berserk, la historia del espadachín negro // Berserk, the story of the black swordsman.@javyeslava.photo1579d

    **

Hola amigos, buenas vibras para todos.

    **

Hello friends, good vibes to all.

    Source!

Today I come to talk about an anime that is perhaps a little unknown but I personally liked it a lot. Of this story there is an original back in the nineties but they made an adaptation in 2016 and 2017 with a couple of seasons. I'm always looking for anime with similar plots because everything that is supernatural, fantasy, where obviously there are doses of violence and as in this case the eternal theological conflict between the church against everything that thinks differently from her, call me much attention.

That is why Berserk does not escape from the above, it is a story where all the ingredients that I mentioned before are composed under the same sword of our main character. Definitely an anime for very varied tastes which I really did not know, in fact it was a good friend who recommended it to me and without many expectations I started watching it but to my surprise as it progressed more and more I was hooked until I finally finished it. So without further ado, let's talk a little bit about this story...

    Source!

This is a plot starring Guts, a kind of hero with superhuman strength who wanders around the world with a sword bigger than his own body, in search of the Apostles to eliminate them. The Apostles were originally humans but for different reasons decided to leave behind much of their lives in order to achieve a power they never imagined and thus be able to fulfill their most sinister desires, in other words, they became demonic beings.

A story that by the things we can see, the inquisition by the church and the way in which the knights and people are armed and dressed, we could think that it takes place in medieval Europe. Although it is true that the church is not represented as it is, the references are quite clear that they speak of it since it is called "the holy see". It could be said that it is very similar to the previous anime I told you about, "Hellsing Ultimate", they are sister stories.

    Source!

Several things to say and the first of them is the animation. After seeing it complete and reading many criticisms regarding that issue and I honestly do not understand why, I guess they are people who are accustomed to the animation made by Mappa studio, which clearly are very good. The thing is that yes, it is different but not bad at all, in fact it has some very good drawings that inspire fear and discomfort as for example Father Mozgus that I show you in the gif.

    Source!

And if we talk about the animation when it comes to the scenes, they are not lagging behind either. I think they are well done, they have that realistic factor that I like so much and that is so necessary in this type of anime. When melee combat, amputations and blood are a big part of the menu, the animations have to be of quality and accompany the viewer at all times for maximum enjoyment.

As I said it is a story that is categorized as "dark fantasy" because in it we see a lot of evil, demons, the eternal struggle of good against evil but also fantasy beings such as elves, ogres, and characters that represent everything that opposes the "church" such as wizards and warlocks. As you can see, it is a plot that has it all and never gets boring.

    Source!

I think what I liked the most about this anime is the fight between good and evil that I told you about before. Why? - Because it is very ambiguous what we can consider good and evil. Guts carries a struggle and a very heavy internal burden thanks to a curse that has condemned him and seeing him battle with his own demons and the enemies he encounters along the way is something very interesting. Plus all of this makes him an extremely moody character but with a very protective feeling.

The role of "the holy see" is very important because they play a key role. It gives a historical context to the anime because they are things that to a greater or lesser extent happened and this story takes advantage of that to create a depth in the plot that makes it more attractive and eye-catching. Personally, when an anime touches on these topics for me it is a big plus because I am a person who is very interested in all these events.

    Source!

In short, an anime with a dark aura where you will see that beyond demons and curses many times the great enemy of humanity is the same human being. A lot of "gore" element, which I will always be grateful for because it is an important added value to the plot, although it may not seem so, and the fact that all this is accompanied by the fantasy of benevolent beings that bring a touch of humor, softness and tenderness that characterizes the anime in general.

I highly recommend it, it is a very interesting and attractive story that I am sure will catch you as it did me. It has a duration of two seasons, each of them of twelve chapters, twenty minutes per episode. Here's a trailer from when it came out so you can take a look at it.

  12. ¿Por qué Guts es tan especial? - Entendiendo a mi héroe favorito (siempre sigue adelante) [ESP-ENG]@huesos1851d

    Portada.gif

Tal vez estaba predestinado.

    image.png

Mi padre falleció ayer y he estado escuchando esto.

    The legacy continues

Since the passing of renowned mangaka Kentaro Miura on May 6, I've been reviewing the best of his magnum opus: Berserk.

I was introduced to this story as a kid entering my teens, and as I grew into adulthood I was introduced to his universe with the under-appreciated 2016 series. Very good in the storytelling, but infamous in the animation side.

It didn't take me long to delve into his world by running directly to its source. On that occasion, the gratification was absolute.I quickly came to understand the notoriety of Berserk as one of the essential stories of the dark fantasy genre and the seinen (adult) demographic. I quickly came to understand the notoriety of Berserk as one of the essential stories of the dark fantasy genre and the seinen (adult) demographic.

One of the most contrasting features between what I was able to see in the 2016 anime and the manga that Miura developed since 1989, was the fact that in the early chapters of the manga, Guts, its protagonist, is given a proper introduction.

Everything starts in a very similar way, but the time jump that the manga makes into the past in the third chapter, initiates a tremendous story arc that shows us the origins of the antihero who is the protagonist of the story.

Miura actually went in to claim that when creating Guts his idea was to make a "different" hero come to life. Miura hoped to craft a work that would break away from the stereotypes imposed by the manga of the time, but without completely disregarding the inspirations that had shaped him as a creative.

That decision was not only firm, but it yielded exceptional results. Guts may not seem so innovative today, but at the time he was a character very difficult to compare with any other protagonist. If Guts seems to us to be in any sense typical, it is surely because he has directly influenced many of the best-known anti-heroes of our era.

That achievement was evident in the early chapters of Berserk, but it wasn't until his entire origin arc unfolded that Guts became one of the most extraordinary protagonists and my great favourite so far.

Guts' origin story, the Golden Age, has been hailed by many, including myself, as one of the best story arcs ever written. And beyond Miura's creative genius as a screenwriter, it was his idea of making a different hero that allowed this particular story to be so wonderful.

It should be clarified that The Golden Age is not the arc that best represents what Berserk really is. If we isolate this one from the rest of the Berserk arcs, what we're left with is a fantasy and medieval story with a tragic ending, not a dark fantasy.

But this story arc is absolutely necessary to understand Guts and give exquisite depth to his personality and the world around him. The development of Guts was simply masterful, and I'll explain it in a nutshell.

The dark origins of the Black Swordsman

Guts is a special protagonist, he feels like one, but to dimension why he is so different it is essential to understand his backstory.

Guts is not just a dark character who fights to wipe out the apostles (humans who acquired demonic powers) and tries to consummate his desire for vengeance. Guts is the antithesis of the "chosen" hero in all his splendor, and this is defined from his birth.

While the chosen hero usually enjoys unheard-of prosperity at some point in his history and has assured wealth and happiness, Guts has been doomed all his life to live in extreme suffering and it all stems from the fact that he shouldn't even have been born.

That is the message Miura gives us by showing us the scene of his discovery. With a poetic phrase in a sequence that sets the tone for the events to come in the life of the one who was born from a corpse. Guts' fate was death before he could even take his first breath.

[The following section contains spoilers from the Golden Age of Berserk arc. If you want to avoid them, skip two subtitles]

    The Golden Age

After other events of great misfortune, Guts is raised in a way that justifies his warrior soul. He grows up among swords, violence, blood, hatred and betrayal. But such events never change his essence.

When Guts' adoptive mother passes away, a notoriously disturbed woman who became attached to him, Guts feels the need to be with her in her final hours. Here, for the first time, we see his true nature.

By the way, we get a preview of it in the manga with an expression of sadness that leaks out of him and he tries to hide from the one who would be his faithful companion: the elf Puck.

Although years of terrible tragedies have disfigured his personality to the point of making him coarse, grumpy, and extremely narcissistic -in terms of combat and survival skills-, the truth is that all those events have only made it very difficult for him to express other feelings, even though they are always under the surface.

After meeting Griffith, a key event in the whole story, Guts' life changes for the better for a certain period. Here's another stroke of genius, and Miura seems to want to answer in Berserk the following question:

What would happen if the life of someone destined for misfortune intersects with the life of someone destined for glory?

It is precisely Griffith who is the chosen one in the story of Berserk. He is the hero destined to be a light to the world, and for some reason he becomes obsessed with Guts to the point of wanting to "own" him at all costs.

Griffith recruits Guts after defeating him in a duel, winning a bet that committed Guts to serve him as a warrior. From then on, the protagonist of Berserk became part of the Band of the Hawk, initiating a period of stability in his life thanks to being under the command of the blessed chosen one.

Another character Guts meets almost at the same moment is Casca, who becomes his great romantic interest. But Guts doesn't know or understand how to express his love for her in any other way than to protect her whenever necessary.

    untitled.gif.

Guts acquires the title of "100 Man Killer" by attempting, successfully, to protect Casca while she was ill. But it was much later that she noticed that behavior, and it was then that the love Guts felt was mutual.

But nothing was going well by then. Griffith had caused great irritation in Guts, who wasn't comfortable with the life of aristocracy and opulence to which Griffith had led them. So Guts, wanting to be free to live his own way, decides to leave.

It was in another duel that Guts' destiny would again change course. On that occasion, he won. He took the reins of his life from there and walked away from Griffith and the Band Of The Hawk for at least a year.

Griffith was not used to losing, he was the chosen one, his destiny was to be king, and he did not know how to handle his defeat. Griffith fell into such a deep depression that he lost control of himself. When Guts found him again, he had committed the folly of sacrificing himself by offending the king by sleeping with his daughter.

Perhaps it was predestined. Perhaps Griffith acted only in the knowledge that all the suffering that act would cause would be well rewarded. But when Guts found him again, he was barely a scrawny human wreck with no ability to stand up for himself.

    image.png The Seventh Layer

    The eclipse and its aftermath

Casca and Guts suffered greatly upon discovering Griffith's condition. That is why what he did next was, more than cruelty, an unusual baseness. Griffith's destiny, and his greatest dream, was to be king, and he would do everything to achieve his goal.

When the eclipse begins, a crucial event in the story of Berserk, Griffith had been on the verge of committing suicide and giving up. But he didn't, and when the sun was finally covered his dream was fulfilled, but for that he had to make a great sacrifice.

All the members of the Band Of The Hawk, except Guts and Casca, became part of a horrific feast for demons. Casca is abused by Griffith in front of Guts who, desperate to save her, cuts off her left arm caught in the jaws of a demon, but that wasn't enough.

The last thing Guts' right eye saw was Griffith's perverse ritualistic act. After that, Guts wakes up covered in wounds, with only one eye, only one arm, the love of his life so disturbed that she didn't recognize him, and also he would be eternally haunted by evil spirits because he was marked as a human sacrifice; as their food.

    [No more spoilers from here.]

    untitled.gif

    An amazing protagonist

Guts overcomes the eclipse event by becoming the wandering, lonely black swordsman while living an absolute hell. He has no peace even in his dreams. Guts seeks revenge, but over the course of the Berserk arcs his motivations are shaped and begin to become more noble. Guts becomes a legend and a hero despite all that he suffers.

Guts' evolution is all too consistent and makes the motivations of his archetype very clear to us. Guts is not only an anti-hero with a dark past, he is someone who is pushed by a superior force that controls the destiny of everything. Something that in the Berserk universe is known as "Causality".

What defines Guts is his great willpower, but instead of helping him it only complicates his path more. He must have died on many occasions, but he keeps going and doesn't stop even in the face of immense pain and suffering. Guts' will is stronger than death itself.

All of that has an impact on real life. While planning what I have presented in this post I came across something that made me reflect more deeply on the role Guts has had in my life.

Guts had a huge impact on my grieving process

Last night, while scrolling through Facebook as if I had nothing important to do, I came across this post:

    image.png

This person reflects exactly how I've been feeling for the past few months. Maybe I've given so much importance to Kentaro Miura's passing because Berserk generates a feeling that comforts me. Something I needed having recently experienced the loss of not one, but several loved ones including my father.

Like the author of this post, I have found in Guts the inspiration to keep going no matter what. Berserk's story is riddled with misfortune, and Guts suffers from traumatic events all too often, but he endures and never stops fighting.

That's that's what a fictional hero is supposed to do, inspire us, but most of these are usually meant to inspire, primarily, people who haven't counted more than a decade or two of life.

It is not that misfortunes are alien to the lives of children, but the passing of the years is emotionally compromising while the figures that were important to form us, perhaps as real life heroes, disappear and leave us with a great emptiness.

In spite of everything we are still here. I write this text that I will pass on to you as a reader in the hope of conveying, more than an explanation of why I love Guts so much as a character, the biggest message I think Miura has left us with what he created in Berserk.

Kentaro Miura didn't complete his work, but his legacy never stops growing. The impact he made on the world with Berserk encompasses all forms of art, and art is nothing more than the expression of the pure inspiration of each artist.

In the face of a pandemic that has resulted in the loss of so many of our loved ones, I have been inspired by Miura, by Guts, thinking that I cannot give in to the feelings of pain and grief.

Behind all the gore, the horror, all the carnage we find in Berserk from the very first chapter, there is a bright light of strength that has done me so much good. For all that and more, Guts is my favourite protagonist and Kentaro Miura is, for me, a great master in the art of creating good stories.

    untitled.gif

Take care of yourself and those you love. I congratulate you for making it this far. Keep in mind that you are not alone and you can accomplish so much more. Keep going.

    Age portada.jpg [English Version Below]

    ___

    ESP

    image.png Berserk Analysis

    ENG

On May 6, 2021, the entire world, not just the manganime world, suffered the loss of one of the most important and influential creative minds of our generation.

It wasn't until May 20, fourteen days later, that we were made aware of the unfortunate loss. Kentaro Miura, creator of the beloved Berserk manga, passed away at the age of 54 from a fatal aortic dissection.

From that moment on, fans of his work have been suspended in total uncertainty. Miura's magnum opus, Berserk, has not had a conclusion in over 30 years since its first publication.

Berserk is an extremely long, dense manga, and is full of mind-blowing details. Writing and drawing this story must have been very tiring for Miura. Perhaps that's why, over the past few years, the frequency with which new volumes of Berserk were issued became less and less regular.

    untitled.gif

To make sense of such an extensive work, Miura divided the stages of his plot into arcs that had names of their own, which in turn were already stories that worked very well on their own.

Of all the Berserk arcs, there is one that stands out so much from the rest that until very recently it was the only one that had been adapted into animation, and twice.

That leaves us with three versions of one of the most powerful stories ever written. This piece is essential to understanding Guts, the protagonist of Berserk, as a character. In my opinion, Miura developed him in such an absurdly exceptional way that to this day it remains the most fascinating stage of any manga known to date.

This stage is known as "The Golden Age", and by having three versions, it lets you choose how to enjoy it in the way that best suits you.

If you've been wanting to delve into the world of Berserk and don't know the best way to do it, I've got some tips for you to enjoy the Golden Age experience to the fullest.

All part of the third chapter of the manga. The true beginning of the Golden Age as an arc is the day of Guts' unusual birth. A moment that was only fully represented in its paper version.

Here Miura pushes his plot with a sublime move. Already in the 1997 manga and anime we are introduced to Guts as the wandering, reclusive black swordsman, but we are not let in on more detail about him until the time jump that brings you back to his origin.

    untitled.gif

Although the trilogy of films does not set this foundation, and there is a great deal of resistance to its art style from purist fans, its story becomes much more unpredictable, and that gives it a great narrative advantage.

The classic versions of Berserk, by Miura's creative decision, had already told you in their own way what was going on after the conclusion of the Golden Age before they started relating it.

For that reason, if someone can learn all about Berserk by starting exclusively with the most modern version of this story, they can have the most spectacular narrative journey of their life. It's definitely worth watching this story without having any idea how it concludes.

Miura's decision is explained, like the manga's bizarre opening scene, by the need to establish from the start the exact tone of the story. The Golden Age covers less than a dozen of the hundreds of chapters Miura crafted for Berserk, and is completely out of keeping with what its central plot is about.

That's why it's important that if you decide to watch Golden Age in order to enjoy it to the fullest, there are three ways to start.

    • Read the first chapter of the manga and then the first two films of the trilogy, then continue for the next three manga chapters before watching the last film.

    • Just read the manga and skip straight to the fourth volume after reading the first one and get into context, to read the second and third chapter after Guts defeats Griffith in his third duel and then pick up the story.

    • Watch the entire 1997 adaptation, which subtly makes a spoiler in its first chapter, or read the first manga instead to avoid it. Then follow the series from the second chapter to read the second and third chapters of the manga after Guts defeats Griffith in his third duel before picking up the story in the anime.

From there, it is best to continue with the manga from chapter 11.

    Berserk- Anime (1997)

Berserk: Golden Age Arc III - The Advent (2013)

    image.png Weebs Weekly

In this way the most intense plot twist is saved for the right moment and they don't stop warming up to the real genre of Berserk: dark fantasy.

Golden Age is only medieval epic. It's classic fantasy made for adults, full of drama, blood and action. The same could be said of Game of Thrones, although Berserk is little more than that.

From then on you'll understand what you saw in the first manga, and be warned that something very bad had to happen for Guts to become the wandering, lonely black swordsman, but the details will remain a mystery until fully resolved during the eclipse.

The Golden Age is actually the grand prequel to Berserk. Its function is to explain the origin of the protagonist. That's why it contrasts so much with the real tone of the story. It is the life of the anti-hero before his greatest misfortune. That makes the denouement even more exquisite.

Unlike heroes like Batman or Spider-Man, Guts' origin doesn't take place on a single fateful night. While it's clearly much more heartbreaking, and that already laid enough of a foundation for its development, Miura elaborated deeper on the event by developing an entire story arc, so that the end result is a full understanding of Guts' actions and his very particular personality.

Berserk may have been absurd carnage just for the sake of it, but the motivations of Guts, who lives a life full of horrors and death, are so well exemplified by Golden Age that it has fascinated millions of people since its release.

With great skill, Miura crafted Golden Age into the best origin story I know of, and for many, the best story arc ever written. Kentaro Miura justifies Guts' legendary status in his world like no other by making all the arcs feel like a compilation of fantastic tales from a great mythology.

    image.png Berserk Analysis

After the passing of Kentaro Miura, there has been a void left in the hearts of millions of fans, and the uproar has led to a huge wave of new fans getting to know his work, and I'm very happy about that.

Berserk is a marvel of a work in its entirety, but the golden age is the most special stage of this whole story. For me, it's a story arc that everyone should enjoy sometime.

  14. Berserk the most beautiful and horrible manga at the same time. (ING) (ESP)@snader2052d

Berserk is a manga created and illustrated by Kentaro Miura, one of the best mangakas of this time, to talk about Berserk we will take into account the drawing style, the narrative, the story and its characters. With that said, let's get started.

    History:

Berserk tells us the story of Gatsu, a mercenary who murders in cold blood with a gigantic sword, one day after finishing his work he is ambushed by other subjects who were also mercenaries but belonged to a legion, the band of the falcon, Griffit is his leader and wants gatsu to join them, gatsu is forced to join and there he forms his friendships, however in the world of berserk nothing is pretty, he will have to face the greatest horrors and fight his nightmares.

    Narrative:

The narrative that Berserk shows us is something completely different from everything, we always see the good side of others, they sell us the image that the knights were heroic and pure fighting for a just cause, but we know that none of that is realistic, Berserk deals with delivering us the crudest and saddest truth, the other side of the coin, the massacres of a war where there is no good or evil, only death, berserk shows how the supposed heroes really are and how twisted they can be, anime and manga show that darkness, and you will wonder, what does that have to do with it? well my dear friend, in the world of berserk they show how people can suffer in a war, the sadness of a heavy environment after a brutal battle, not only shows that, it also focuses on giving a sinister touch with creatures that come out in the dark to torment gatsu, betrayals and mental and sexual abuse, as I repeat berserk is not an anime or manga for everyone, but the most important thing is its visual narrative, in the manga berserk shows mastery when it comes to transmitting feelings, each blow, each tear is well drawn, that is what makes berserk such a credible story.

    Art:

Manga as such gives us great pleasure to see it, that's where berserk shines, because his art is incredibly beautiful, Kentaro miura is a master at making those vignettes full of details giving us a manga full of beauty, despite how dark it may be the story each drawing is a wonderful work of art, and not only that, the feeling that each page uses really conveys it, gatsu's anger, the distance between the stages, the gloom of the war, absolutely everything, in the manga You can see that no mangaka can compare to the majesty of Kentaro miura.

    Characters:

The characters are incredibly amazing, each character has a different personality, the truth is I do not want to spoil for those who have not seen it but there are so many characters, there are many and with all of them you will feel empathy, except one that they will hate for life, when they see it they will know what I mean and why. The fact is that each character has a solid story, for example: Gatsu is a cold character with few words, very brave and fierce in battle, but he is not like that because he wants to, he is like that because since childhood he had to be like that Since his tutor, Gambino, mistreated and beat him, Gatsu had to learn to fight from a young age to survive, and each blow was forging his personality until he became a cold and fearless being. and each character has a well-formed story, from a thief to a man who doesn't talk much, each and everyone living together in a wonderful way without feeling forced.

    In conclusion:

It is a wonderful manga and anime, from its movie trilogy, its manga, its anime seasons and its classic anime, everything about berserk is incredible, both the art and the story, a marvel of dark fantasy, the truth is that I think Kentaro Miura marked a complete era with this work, because when you see berserk you are not the same again, it is a before and an after, I sincerely recommend that you see the manga first, so that you have a more pleasant and complete experience, and then watch the anime , I recommend it? without hesitation YES.

Thanks for watching, if you liked me please give me a like and follow me, you would help me a lot, I wish you the best and I hope you like this recommendation.

    2

A story set during the Middle Ages, with a background that extends from the unjust social structure, the Black Death and even the Holy Inquisition. In general, Berserk's plot follows the path of Guts, a former mercenary and cursed swordsman, forced to wander relentlessly to survive and seek revenge; and Griffith, an ambitious and inspiring young man who created the Hawk Gang, a thriving group of mercenaries who voluntarily joined him to help him achieve his dream: to be king, and change the unjust social structures in which they are embedded.

Berserk's introductory bow, the "Black Swordsman", presents a narrative that departs from the rest of the play. Here, the protagonist is almost a villain: he seems to be just a barbarian, devoid of feelings and moved only by hatred and desire for revenge. However, a few chapters later, the story continues almost like a gigantic flashback, contextualizing his tragic and abusive childhood within a group of mercenaries and following his trajectory since then.

    3

The following arc, called "The Golden Age," is inserted into this flashback and therefore presents this sudden change of context, which remains the same until the current chapters, with some (large) warnings. This saga also presents the Hawk Band, full of sentimental scenes and entirely focused on building deep human relationships. Focusing its narrative on the development of the relationship of the two main characters, it also brings in brilliant and surprising secondary characters such as Caska and Judeau.

The circumstance in which the protagonists meet is important for the relationship they both build: Guts starts from a problematic and traumatic childhood, following his life without purpose and simply going from battle to battle; and Griffith is the "White Hawk", a young leader who dreams of building his own kingdom. Within this superficial point of view, the author Kentaro Miura constructs a complex psychological plan, taking care to detail each interaction between the members of the Band, so that each element such as dialogues, past circumstances, created bonds, justifies the end to which the story is directed.

    20201116_162706.gif

Dilemmas such as the search for belonging, respect and even friendship arise from a traumatic childhood to shape the Black Swordsman and his decisions in various ways. Probably, as the character of the Hawk develops in our eyes, the feeling of guilt for the death of his allies is remarkable. In addition to a selfish desire to assert himself as special in the world, Griffith realizes that the only way to redeem himself with the dead is to achieve his dream, and this element brings Berserk to the height of his tragic-epic characteristic.

Besides its plot, it is worth mentioning the art of manga, it is necessary to read very carefully in the small details: from the comic relief to the author's care in drawing the expressions of the characters in each dialogue, which allow an empathic connection with each one.

➜ Shop @ J-List - https://bit.ly/2G3pz1a ➜ Nord VPN - https://go.nordvpn.net/SH15Q ➜ TokyoTreat - https://bit.ly/2N5zwuW Berserk Review (1997) Born from the corpse of his mother, a young mercenary known only as Guts, embraces the battlefield as his only means of survival. Day in and day out, putting his life on the line just to make enough to get by, he moves from one bloodshed to the next.

After a run-in with the Band of the Hawk, a formidable troop of mercenaries, Guts is recruited by their charismatic leader Griffith, nicknamed the "White Hawk." As he quickly climbed the ranks in order to become the head of the offensive faction, Guts proves to be a mighty addition to Griffith's force, taking Midland by storm. However, while the band's quest for recognition continues, Guts slowly realizes that the world is not as black-and-white as he once assumed.

Set in the medieval era, Kenpuu Denki Berserk is a dark, gritty tale that follows one man's struggle to find his own path, while supporting another's lust for power, and the unimaginable tragedy that begins to turn the wheels of fate.

Kenpuu Denki Berserk is the first anime adaptation of the long-running, ongoing seinen manga series published in the bi-weekly magazine Young Animal created by Kentaro Miura in 1989. While the story in the anime is fairly loyal to the source material, heavy modifications were made to exclude some of the more graphic depictions of violence, as well as characters and other content that could not be covered within the length of the anime’s running time. These changes were approved by the series creator himself.

  18. manga review: Berserk@thatanimesnob3130d

Medieval kingdoms, big swords, frenzied warriors, gore, nude, sex, intrigue, betrayal, demons, a quest for vengeance. Berserk is the encapsulation of the best parts of dark fantasy. You know how nowadays everything gets compared to Dark Souls? Even Dark Souls took heavy inspiration from it, if that is any indication for how well executed it is.

And why wouldn’t it be? If pretty images are all you care about, then you will never be disappointed as the artwork is amongst the best you can find in any manga. And despite changing slightly as years go by, it never becomes lazy and dull, as is the case with any other long-running title. Almost every frame is a painting of fine art, extremely detailed and graphical, taking hours to be drawn with attention to facial expressions, clothing and sceneries. Especially the panoramic views showing huge armies clashing are breath taking.

Obviously a big part of the charm is also the graphic depictions of people getting slaughtered in all sorts of disgusting ways, women getting raped, and demons looking like the stuff of feverish nightmares. I grew indifferent to all that over the years, since to the most part they come off as shock factor instead of maturity. It’s time to stop thinking the more fucked up something looks the more deep and thought provoking it is. All that stuff look cool, but they are B grade aesthetics for the less demanding audience.

What sets Berserk above a typical gorefest is its focus on the mentality of its characters. The world affects the characters and is affected back by them, becoming a double battlefield, one of external enemies and one of internal fears. The demons are not generic creatures of evil as they are mortals who were taken over by their desires and gave up on humanity in the name of lust and ambition. They were not born evil, they became monsters as a result of living in a cruel world where the strong can do anything they want and the weak are expendable cannon fodder. This is not something your average edgelord schlock can show properly, since over there everyone is born psychotic and acts like a maniac over first world problems.

Despite that, it still goes overboard in many cases, since anyone who is positive, cheerful, and believes in the kindness of people always ends up getting raped and murdered in the most humiliating ways. There is no counterforce to all the selfish cynicism and good-hearted people are treated as idiots who deserve to be kicked around for not wanting to be ruthless serial killers. The medieval setting sort of excuses it, but half the times it still comes off as petty for the sake of torture porn.

But you know what? This is a minor issue compared to how it’s being made for three decades and there is no ending in sight. Since the Eclipse event, the only thing I wanted to see is Guts getting his final showdown with Griffith, but chances are I am never going to get it because Miura is busy playing Idolmaster and keeps throwing more shit between them to make sure they will never meet. At this rate the creator will die of old age before completing it. I mean, the pacing was always slow and not focused on plot progression as it was on getting to know the characters or getting prolonged random battles in between. But just like it happens with everything that overstays its welcome, it eventually becomes tiresome.

I used to love seeing Guts butchering people with progressively bigger swords, but, falling victim to power creep, the stronger creatures he is facing the less dramatization there is behind the action. The typical soldiers in the early arcs were making it far easier to feel the devastation of war. When they got replaced with beasts and eventually with monsters, there’s nothing there anymore. Guts is killing abominations that have nothing humane and thus nothing relatable about them.

The story is also expanding beyond its initial premise to something much greater and multilayered. What began as a simple revenge story of one guy versus another guy, it moves away from Guts’ objective and slowly gets enriched with all sorts of extra themes, such as the intrigue of politics, the concept of faith, the origin of magic, and different dimensions overlapping each other.

Which is also an issue, since Guts is still the one defeating most of the enemies while everyone else is low level support. Despite the story expanding to include a dozen other characters and themes, it still has the same one guy doing all the work. While Guts was butchering to pieces anyone standing in his way, it was excused because he was getting the spotlight. Now a dozen other characters get some spotlight and are close to worthless in battle. How can you care about all the extra stuff thrown in there when none of them can stand on their own without Guts constantly jumping it to save them?

Not to mention the comic relief; it’s so annoying and only increases in volume as time goes on. When the story began, there were no gag characters in Guts’ team, while now half of the team is there just for making silly jokes. Despite the world getting overrun with horrible monsters, most of the depressing atmosphere of the earlier arcs is gone. Now it’s like a mindless hack and slash Dynasty Warriors videogame, where one guy is cynically killing thousands of faceless monsters before throwing in a few cheesy one-liners.

This is why the Eclipse was the peak of the story and everything after it keeps feeling less and less interesting. I didn’t give a shit about Griffith fighting that Hindu king, and the whole thing with the pirates and the mermaids was a seven year filler arc. Why do you think everyone makes fun of everything happening after the Eclipse? Because the anime adaptation was cancer CGI? No, because it didn’t have the same interest as before.

I will go as far as say the 90s anime adaptation is the best version of them all. Sure, the budget wasn’t the best, but for the material it covered, it was even better than the manga. -It took out the unnecessary battles with filler monsters -It kept the meaningful character interactions -It removed Skull Knight and his plot armor -It removed Puck and his horrible comic relief -It stopped at the Eclipse, the best part of the whole story -The hand-drawn still images were doing a much better job than the cancer CGI of later adaptations

Just watch that one and consider the rest mostly a waste of time and a huge disappointment consisting of terrible CGI and clang sounds.

  19. Berserk@renutyagi3138d

I've completed 3 episodes of Berserk and it seems like an anime that can be a lot better since it hasn't chosen a traditional way of telling its story. The characters might seem quite familiar because there are a lot of anime's out there and many of them are similar but I feel that this is a good show but it could be a lot better.

  20. Berserk - Manga by Kentaro Miura [IT-EN]@dexpartacus3168d

    240_F_10643477_VzA2XWtfnaK7HCj8u7rMrLn28fS7JSWe.jpgCiao Steemians!

Steem On!!!

    bandiera-union-jack-artistica.jpgHi Steemians!

Today I have the pleasure to talk about Japanese Manga and in the spefic Berserk! I will try to be as vague as possible so as not to ruin your future reading! I fell in love with Ken Shiro's character, whom I did not lose an episode but from there nothing ... until a friend of mine told me about Berserk ten years ago, that talks about the sad and tough life of Gatsu in a horror-fantasy with addition of a lot of violence. In addition to Manga there are two television series, the second one, released this year, is the best one and they did also a movie trilogy. Revenge, destiny, illusion of free will, power of violence, and need for evil are the crucial issues.
Set in an alternative Middle Ages where Gatsu, with his unbelievable sword called "Dragon slayer", has had a very troubled childhood, where he will learn his only belief: fight. He is part of a group of mercenaries "band of the falcon" where the leader is Grifis, a character who will surprise you for his many aspects. Gatsu falls in love with a girl from the group of mercenaries called Caska, and starts the sad and bloody love story I've ever seen. From the beginning that it's not going so great, there are a number of really upsetting and unbelievable events; Kentaro Miura, author of the series, evolves history into a mix of forced loving stories, torture,
supernatural, revenge and the introduction of some humorous character, breaking the claustrophobic dose of sadness that goes on for the duration of the story. A story begun in 1989 and not yet completed, an epic that has not concluded and fans have been waiting from many years and that Kentaro Miura has not yet been able to satisfy, focusing inexplicably on other projects including "Gigantomachia", a unique volume of great really weel done that came out in 2013.

If you are interested in this Manga, hoping to made you curious, I wish you to enjoy the reading!

Thanx for reading, see you next time! Steem On!!!

  21. Reviews of Berserk (2016)@redanime3271d

    berserkblogrolljpeg-6ab089_1280w.jpg

Now that the anime is in its 6th / 7th episode, and we have had to do bad episodes and very good episodes also, the time has come to form an idea about this animated.

I do not find that he is unfairly criticized, and that no one gives him a chance. Adapting the work of Kentao Miura is not easy: drawing is very characteristic and virtuoso, the story is dense and complex, with much darkness and violence (not counting morbid sexuality), and the publication of Chapters / tomes is slow.

The director of the series, Shin Itagaki, made the best choices possible. The animation is of unequal quality, but it is understandable in view of the budget, and sacrificing some scenes to make a perfect one, it is not that serious, especially since this fault appears concretely only in Episode 1, the rest of the series is much more balanced. The Opening and the Ending are lynched, so yes all the tastes are in the nature, certainly. But the Opening is very good, it respects the scenes of the manga, with anger and strength, they give keys of understanding, for the people who do not know Berserk, and allows to remember all the past history for the connoisseurs. (For people who complain about the spoil, this animated follows directly on the 3 films, so if between 2012 and 2016, you have not seen the movies, nor finished the manga until the scene of the Eclipse: "c 'Is life' I want to say, the animated had to pass in the suite). And the Ending, which is described by some as "love song foolish and too honeyed", is very good too, and shows us another facet of Berserk. Berserk does not trace the story of a big nag with a big sword fighting in the mud and filth. The character of Guts is a sensitive person, deep, with a look at the world of the most intelligent. This man is in perpetual suffering, delivered, partly by Casca. Miura also writes a love story. Casca and Berserk, whose almost entire volume is devoted to their relationship, are at the center of history, and Guts's care for Casca is essential, and is the very goal of his life (maintaining his humanity, Do not let hatred, keep his word towards casca, pay tribute to Falcons). So, reducing Berserk to blood, violence, and infernal battles, shows a lack of understanding of the work. That is why the Ending, sweet and poetic is quite appropriate. As far as the CGI is concerned, the quality is improving, and we must not forget that at the beginning of this technique, there are gaps. (The perspective has not mastered itself in one day!). But these flaws are quite compensated by choices of rather bold realizations, which make the image dynamic and alive. (The camera turns on itself, powerful plan changes, the effect of the camera on the shoulder), and the music brings a lot, while also differentiating itself from the music of the movies, which is a good one thing. The powerful scenes of the manga, which exudes a strong emotion are quite well suited in the animated. These scenes, in spite of a slight censure (which I shall discuss later), are executed with respect, give a good account of the feelings, the power of Guts, the horrors of the apostles, the madness of Casca, Torture of heretics, etc.

    berserk-2016-death-knight.jpg

In addition flash-backs, having another technique, allows the spectators to differentiate the moments, and not to annoy the eye. The dubbing actors also do an excellent job. The choice to zap the first arc, and the arc that lies just after the Eclipse (on elfs children) is not a problem, and is fully justified. The directors wanted to directly adapt the most representative arc of Berserk, while making a wink at the first chapter. Nothing very wicked nor unfounded, one must remain pragmatic and not let his love for the work make us lose our common sense.

As for censorship, it is a point that is being discussed. The general scene is not completely forgotten. Let us take the aggression which Lady Farnese undergoes by the possessed horse. This scene is shown, however the sex of the animal is not shown, (not as in the manga), and Lady Farnese's chest (and nudity in general) is more .... "blurred", simplified , In order to meet the criteria of Japanese censorship. That said, they did not choose to dress or hide it, which is a good thing. So a censorship is present, yes, but it is not very strong (not like Tokyo Ghoul), and I repeat it, this animé manages to keep the essence of Berserk, and to pass the horror, and the Disgusting, just in a different way than the manga. Thus, the animated Berserk 2016 is a very good adaptation!

The only bizarre choice of the animate is to have represented the character of Puck exactly the same as in the manga. In the manga, when it changes visual, it is not a problem, but in animated, it does not work and it makes the scene artificial.

  22. Anime Review: Berserk.. Looking for a great anime to watch on a sitdown?@jza3276d

So the summer season has started, and each week we get our favorite anime shown to us which we download or stream from the Internet. However sometimes you just want to have a full day of anime and you want to get a full, complete season of a great anime series non-stop with out cliffhangers. Also with tons of action from 0-100 from the very first episode and without stupid fillers? well Berserk is your series.

A full pack of 24 episodes of metal going through deamons, monsters and else. Berserk will pull out his massive sword and just slay huge monsters the size of castle walls. Just to be followed by a wave of blood and sliced eyes spreading on multiple pieces.

From the intro this sereis will put you on the middle of something epic, and wont stop until 10 episodes deep. And when you think everything is about to be over, it just starts all over again.

This series just dont give a fuck, it wont stop for nobody and will show you boobs as well as groesome decapitations, to torture chambers to even some bestiality due to demonic posesions.

I the end the series is just an awesome epic series that if you liked things like Shingeki No Kiojin, or Claymore or even Hellsing, you should definitely watch this series.

In the end this is the story of a woman trying to reunite with his child and a man trying to defend this woman, in a world where religion and cults merge to make the world even more horrid and tormented than it already is, threatened by a bigger threat.

The series is 24 episodes deep and this is my score for it:

    • 5/5 Animation
    • 5/5 Plot
    • 4/5 Sound
    • 5/5 Fun
