Buddy Daddies—Two men, One child, Zero preparation@omokhafue314d
There’s this manhwa I’ve been reading. It’s not complete yet and it’s eating away at my skin. I literally sacrificed some of my reading time during exams to binge read it. That was the first time I ever did something like that and I can’t say I regret it because fortunately, I still managed to cover my syllabus. I've stopped reading it for a while because I got fed up with having just a chapter to read each week when I used to read 80 chapters at a go, and in one sitting. I’m not here to talk about it but I will soon, just letting it sit pretty at a corner before I’m ready to share my glorious characters. They’re not mine obviously but I’m gatekeeping, for now. Oh and it’s having an anime adaptation by next year!

But that’s besides what I want to say. I’m watching pantheon now and also reading this book series, but before all these, I had the opportunity to rewatch an anime that I watched last two years ago and I’d like to share or talk about it a little.
Buddy Daddies. The first time I saw it, I couldn’t get past the first episode, I got bored immediately. I don’t know why but eventually it came to me. It has just one season with a total of 13 episodes.
It revolves around these two characters, Kazuki and Rei. Kazuki and Rei are professional assassins who work as partners and live together, but they couldn’t be more different. Kazuki is the responsible one who handles all the domestic stuff like cooking and cleaning, while Rei is more of a loner who just wants to play video games and avoid dealing with people. They have their routine down and their partnership works, even if their personalities clash sometimes.
Everything changes during what should have been a straightforward job when they end up responsible for a young girl named Miri. She’s connected to their target in a way that complicates the mission, and suddenly these two guys who kill people for a living find themselves trying to figure out how to take care of a kid.

Neither of them knows anything about parenting, and their lifestyle obviously isn’t compatible with raising a child. Kazuki tries his best to adapt and create some kind of normal home environment, while Rei struggles with the whole situation and doesn’t really know how to interact with Miri at first. The kid herself is dealing with her own complicated family situation and doesn’t fully understand what’s happening around her.
As they try to balance their work with this unexpected responsibility, both men start changing in ways they didn’t expect. The presence of Miri forces them to look at their lives differently and question some of the choices they’ve made. Their relationship with each other also evolves as they navigate this new dynamic.

The story explores what happens when people who live in a violent, underground world suddenly have to consider someone else’s wellbeing and future. There are complications from their professional lives that threaten this makeshift family they’re trying to build, and they have to figure out what they’re willing to sacrifice to protect what matters to them. And this isn’t the only anime with this kind of story, they are a handful or a lot, I have no idea. And honestly and like I said in the beginning, the genre wasn’t resonating with me. I don’t think I like this kind of anime but this one was good to say the least.
Hello to all the anime fans, I hope you are all doing great today. This time I want to talk to you about a pretty entertaining anime that I'm sure many of you won't know about and that you will undoubtedly have fun with if you give it a chance. Today I bring you my review with my opinions on the anime: Buddy Daddies. Honestly, this anime may sound very random and I could even say that it seems like a copy of another fairly well-known anime. I discovered it while looking for something light to pass the time in the season it premiered, it surprised me a lot and it was one of the ones I liked the most of that entire year. I found myself completely caught up from the first episode, it was one of those times when an unexpected find ended up being quite a rewarding experience.
If you are a fan of stories that show action, comedy, and heartwarming moments, then this anime will surely be ideal for you. I would say that it is a hidden gem, but well, before I get too excited, I will tell you what it is about and why I think it deserves your full attention. The plot revolves around two hitmen, Kazuki and Rei, who end up due to life events taking care of a 4-year-old girl named Miri, after a mission that goes horribly wrong. I know, it sounds a bit like the plot of Spy x Family, but this anime has its own essence that makes it unique, while Spy x Family portrays a fairly functional makeshift family, Buddy Daddies shows us a much more chaotic and realistic version of what it would be like to become parents overnight. These two have no idea what they are doing, and that is what makes it so special. It's really interesting to see how this relationship develops between this randomly created dysfunctional family. Seeing how little Miri has no idea about her favorite parents' jobs makes everything so much more fun and interesting.
One of the things I liked the most was the balance between action and comedy... the anime has moments that leave you on the edge of your seat, very attentive and attentive to everything that is happening, they present us with very good and exciting percussions and gunfights... but there are also everyday scenes that are so funny and endearing that you can't help but laugh. Very nice episodes in which these two men try to raise Miri in a good way or spend time with her, always with the best intentions, although things never turn out the way they expect haha, from recipes that seem more complicated than necessary to small accidents in the kitchen, the final result reflects both their enthusiasm and their lack of experience.
These are scenes that perfectly combine humor with tenderness, showing how even the simplest moments can become memorable in this unconventional family, and it is precisely the small moments of Slice of Life that feel so genuine that they make you connect deeply with the characters in a very human way. And precisely speaking of characters, Kazuki and Rei are a phenomenal duo, Kazuki is the most expressive and responsible, although he also has his womanizing side and a complicated past that constantly haunts him, Rei, on the other hand, is a very serious and socially awkward guy, who prefers to spend his time playing video games and does not like to interact much with the real world. The chemistry between them is spectacular, and although they are polar opposites, they manage to complement each other in a way that makes you want to see them succeed as parents. Then there is Miri, the little girl who completely steals the show. She is loud, curious and sometimes a little annoying, but she is also the heart of the story. Her innocence and energy bring a perfect balance to all the seriousness of her parents' lives as murderers.
One of the things that sets this anime apart is its focus on the real-life struggles of improvised parenthood. from learning how to deal with unexpected tantrums to balancing dangerous job responsibilities like parenting, the anime very authentically portrays the daily challenges of being a single or unprepared parent. the characters face moments of emotional exhaustion, tough decisions, and a constant struggle to offer stability to Miri, which adds a lot of depth that is rarely seen in stories of this type, but not everything is rosy. there are times when the protagonists feel overwhelmed, insecure, and completely out of place, but that’s what makes their triumphs, no matter how small, feel so rewarding.
Also, the series explores themes like the importance of the bonds we form beyond blood and how families can emerge in the most unexpected circumstances, it’s a message that honestly touched my heart. Visually, the anime is also a delight, the animation seemed pretty good to me, it’s consistent and colorful, with a great level of detail in the action scenes and a very soft style for the comedic and emotional moments. The character design is also very well done, each one has a marked personality, even the facial expressions tell a unique story.. it’s perfect to know how they feel about the funny things that are happening in this curious family.
And obviously we have to mention the opening and the ending, which I found super catchy and perfectly capture the tone of the series, another strong point of this series is the pace.. with only two episodes, the story feels compact, complete and well structured.. there is no filler, and each episode contributes something significant to the development of the characters or to the plot itself, best of all is that the series has a complete and satisfying ending. In a world where we are often left hanging waiting for a second season or are given enough filler to get us into the manga, I am glad to find an anime that closes its story in an impeccable way.
If I had to mention something that bothered me a little, it would be that Miri can be a little too realistic in her little girl behavior… this affects the viewer experience a little bit in an interesting way. On one hand, her authenticity makes you connect with her as a genuine character, but on the other hand, her constant antics can get tiring at times, as her little girl behavior is a little too realistic, maybe for my taste… although that also depends on your relationships with little girls, aha, but hey, I find that she has a good balance between endearing and irritating, and in a way contributes a lot to the narrative, like the emotional development of the protagonists. Although sometimes, of course, it can stop trying your patience… there are moments when her energy and antics cross the line from adorable to irritating, but I thought this: if an anime manages to make me feel that, it means that it is portraying a child in a very authentic way, and that is a good thing, right?
So, even though it was a bit annoying, I also consider it a plus point.. at first, I had my doubts about how they would handle the issue of two parents taking care of a girl. I thought it might fall into boring clichés or they would put a romantic relationship between these two, but I'm glad to say that this was not the case, or at least it was not presented in an exhaustive way.. the series focuses on a relationship between partners, and how both grow as people thanks to their new responsibility, it is refreshing to see a representation of a non-traditional family that does not need to fit into a predefined mold, although it is clearly up to each viewer's interpretation if the relationship between these two goes beyond or just stays on the sidelines as good partners and friends.
I highly recommend this series.. it is an anime that makes you laugh, excites you and, above all, leaves you with a feeling of warmth at the end, if you are looking for something that combines fast-paced action with tender moments and a powerful message about what it means to be a family, this anime is for you. I give it a rating of 9.5/10. The story of the characters and the balance between the genres makes it one of the best surprises I've seen in the world of anime... and well, that's all for today... I'll leave the opening below. See you in the next reviews. Bye bye.
Bye bye.

"Family Story of Two Killers and a Girl", as the show described itself. Admittedly, movies like "Léon: The Professional" about killers becoming parents can be quite interesting.
"Buddy Daddies" is a surprisingly well executed story about team of two professional assassins adopting a small child who is only 4 years old.
While they are doing their best at things they are not prepared or trained for, their work threatens their parenting success, creating many risks and conflicts.
It would be a nice show about parenting if not the main premise of the story. Because, you know, being a trained killer is just what good parent needs, right? Ultimately the problem of this show is normalisation of assassins as occupation. "Look how cool those murderers are, and they are good parents too!"
There are many humorous moments that make the show worth watching. I've found it funny how one main character imagines a child being a grown-up problematic teenager. Story is weak but enjoyable, despite distracting combat scenes. Overall impression is OK.
Buddy Daddies revolves around the lives of two professional assassins named Kazuki and Rei. They're both trying to runaway from their dark pasts and are trying to avoid making emotional connections at all cost.
One Christmas eve, as they were both on their mission to assassinate a dangerous mafia boss, they stumbled upon a 4-year old girl named Miri. She was on her journey alone to search for her father.
The original plan that Kazuki had wasn't implemented because of their encounter and they ended up taking Miri with them. Because of their job, they don't have the ability to take care of her, so they decided to take her back to her mother.
Kazuki who not-so-secretly enjoys being a parent has grown fond of the little girl's innocence and cute laughter. Rei, who's an anti-social and has an impenetrable heart started melting as well.
Now, how would this fateful encounter affect the two? It's for you to find out!

The anime somehow offered us a view of the other side of an assassin's life. How are they like when not on their mission. I'm a fan of true crime and it's really interesting to understand how their minds work.
In the anime, there's another character which I found interesting because of the way he sees death. It's eerie but based on the documentaries I've watched in the past, some of them have the same mindset.
On the lighter side, Miri is very cute and I must say she's a ball of energy. Her adorableness is difficult to ignore, so I can totally understand how the two characters react every time.
Both the "daddies" were relatable in some way, so despite it being about two assassins, their everyday life seems realistic.
I had a good laugh and teared up a bit in some of the episodes. It was an awesome series and I recommend it to people who want to watch some action-packed and adorably funny anime. It only has 12 episodes, but every episode would make you feel full.
Sometimes, blood isn't necessarily thicker than water. We find a bond much stronger than a familial bond... and these are the people who we chose to be our family.
I'm someone who's close to both of my parents, but I'm an only child. However, I found a brother and a sister in both my besties. And this is a bond I'll treasure forever.
Thanks for reading and see you next time! (^^,)/

A few days ago my dear friend @mandysmoon invited me to participate in this initiative, which I really loved, because even though my favorite anime (which I adore with all my soul) are the incredibly recognized and wonderful Naruto and One Piece, I also like to watch those that are not famous, that I see some random detail about it on the internet, and it attracts me to give it a chance. And I feel that in that way I have found little works of art in the world of anime😌
As this contest is about recommending a little recognized anime to enjoy during the holidays, immediately came to my mind the name of Buddy Daddies✨ It premiered last January, it's an original work (it has no manga), so, it only has a conclusive season of 12 chapters (too few for my taste😭), and presents us with a different plot that catches you from the pilot chapter, so -please- continue reading and meet my dear Kazuki, Rei and Miri💗
Kazuki Kurusu and Rei Suwa are hired assassins; even though Kazuki has a Golden Retriever personality and Rei is a little black kitten, we cannot ignore the fact that they have sent many people to the other world. Therefore, one of their missions is to eliminate a corrupt businessman, and they plan to do it during a Christmas Eve event... the day that changed their lives completely.
The plan was going as they expected, but was interrupted by little four-year-old Miri. A little girl who was abandoned in the place, and was looking for her father that she didn't know yet. Kazuki was worried about her and tried to get her to safety from what was coming, but she follows him, and gets caught in the middle of the massacre. Kazuki and Rei continue with their plan, eliminating anyone who crosses their paths, until Kazuki notices Miri at the scene, and in order to save her he tells her that he is her father. She believes him, Rei assassinates the target, and they both end up with a little girl in their lives.
And so the story begins. Two young mobsters who can barely take care of themselves, must take care of and raise a little girl😬 They will try to return Miri to her mother, of course, but this woman rejects her daughter and leaves her with these two strangers. But these two characters are gorgeous, and they take on the role of parent because Miri steals their hearts; so by day they are first-time parents and by night they go around killing people to earn money and give their daughter a good life.
It's very funny, interesting and really tender to see how Kazuki and Rei adapt to their new life🥺 Despite being two men with personal problems, past traumas and not knowing what to do with their lives, apart from murdering, they try to give their best for this little girl. She arrives to bring warmth to the house, and make them smile. And although the path they chose is not an easy one, and there will be many obstacles along the way, it is worth taking a moment in this little vacation and giving this family a chance.
One of the details that I enjoyed while watching this anime, is that since it doesn't have manga there are no plot spoilers. Every week was a chapter full of surprises😁 At the same time, another factor that I love, are the characters. Despite being only 12 chapters, there is a good character development, and you create a bond with them because you sympathize with their problems. I laughed many times, and I admit I even cried, I was waiting with excitement for the new chapter, because it transmits those vibes that makes you feel relaxed and optimistic.
Kazuki is cheerful, outgoing, full of passion. He's the kind of parent who is there supporting you in everything you do, prepares Miri's lunchbox every morning, befriends the teacher and the other moms, and worries about every detail. He has a pretty sad past (common in anime), but you understand the reason he's so protective of Miri🥺
On the other hand, Rei is the opposite, introverted and quiet, you feel he hates everyone. But he's the kind of spoiled father, who gives everything to his daughter because she's the light of his eyes. It's not that he's bitter, he just doesn't know how to give affection, and Miri arrives to teach him what a family is💕 And finally, Miri is exactly like a four-year-old, preschooler. You feel very real her expressions, her way of thinking and behaving. And that's what grabs you, the normality of the characters, yes, they are mobsters, but in their daily routine they're just like you and me.
And you might be wondering, "are they two men taking care of a girl?". Yes😂 At first I thought they were a couple, but they're just very good friends, co-workers and roommates. And, it's really nice to see how no one judges them; they both introduce themselves as Miri's parents, they go together at all times, and it feels like the most normal thing. No one looks at them wrong, no one questions them, everyone accepts the fact that they're a family.
There are different characters that give the main characters problems, but the central villain is life itself and all its complexities. What do you do if a classmate bothers your daughter? What do you do if you think she likes a boy? What do you do if she doesn't want to eat the nutrients she needs? What do you do if your roommate spends all day playing video games and doesn't help you with the chores around the house?😂
Also, a big plus is the animation✨P.A. Works studio, did an excellent job: the colors are vibrant, elements very well detailed, and smooth animation. The moment you start watching it, it creates a fresh, colorful, relaxing atmosphere. You feel calm, wanting to continue watching the next chapter, and I think that's what we are looking for at this time of the year. And finally, I must mention the opening song… spectacular. I have it downloaded on my phone, and it's one of those intro that you can't skip because you love the song. Shock! is its name, and if you still don't feel decided to watch the anime, go to Youtube and listen to the song, it will give you that push you need🤭
That attempt to balance being a father to a little girl, and working as a hitman, is not easy, but it's very entertaining for the audience. Don't confuse it with Spy x Family, as many do, because Buddy Daddies focuses more on the difficulty of raising a child and maintaining a family. Yes, it is explicit, and they will murder anyone, but the reflection is about the importance of the family bond, and not specifically the blood family, but the one you choose to have.
Each chapter is better than the last, and leaves a warmth in your chest. So if you're looking for something new, relaxed and short, I recommend this anime without a doubt. You're going to enjoy it, and you're going to thank me✨
See you later💜
This is one of my favorite anime of this season, I found out about it because they were comparing it with Spy x Family, and after watching it I completely understand that comparison, because yes, they have a similar premise, especially for the adoption of a girl, but otherwise they are very different, and that's what made me fall in love with Buddy Daddies, because unlike Spy x Family, Buddy Daddies does have a coherent story that progresses with the passage of the chapters, and that's all I'll say about it, I think, I don't know what I'll end up saying later.
Kazuki and Rei are hired assassins who work killing people or stealing things, during a job on Christmas day they meet Miri, who is in a building looking for her father, as her mother left her there to look for him and find him sooner or later, well, that night everything was a mess, Miri ends up meeting Kazuki, who is disguised as Santa, who is on his way to a work party where they went to kill someone, and that someone is just Miri's father, and in the middle of much confusion, Kazuki and Rei end up staying with Miri while they finish finding out what is going on, and that's how they end up adopting Miri, although many things will happen first, many tests that will put into question the morals of Kazuki and Rei, and their feelings towards Miri.
I was sold this anime as a Boys Love of murderers who end up adopting the daughter of one of the men they kill, and I wish that were true, but no, it's not, it's more like a bromance of two friends who without knowing how end up with a daughter in common and raise her together. It was really fun to watch all this, because the amount of ridiculous situations that these three living beings are going to get into is going to be incredible, from the very first chapter we are going to be laughing until we cry, and then we are going to cry because everything is going to become too sad and traumatizing for us to be able to bear it.
One of my favorite things about this series, and it's something it shares with Spy x Family, is that the girls are true representations of girls, they are tantrums, they hate studying, they have a lot of trouble eating things they don't like, and although this happens more with Miri than with Anya, they live in a world of complete innocence, they live in a world of complete innocence where bad things are constantly happening, but thanks to their parents, their adoptive parents, who in one way or another decided to exercise parenthood and in the end ended up really loving and caring for a girl who shouldn't have to go through all the bad things that happen to her.
One of my favorite things about the series was that they didn't change the characters just for fan service, because they could have easily changed things so that Kazuki and Rei fell in love half way through and had a romantic relationship, but no, they were just two straight friends who adopted Miri, and that was wonderful, that they kept the story that way, because yes, the rest of the world looked at them as if they were a gay couple, and no, they were a straight couple, because in a way they were a couple, but not in the conventional way the world sees couples, and I loved it.
One of my favorite characters in the series is Miri's mom, we will see her in very crucial moments, I wanted to hate her from the first moment Kazuki interacts with her, but I couldn't, yes I despised her, but it doesn't matter, I couldn't hate her, it's so real her situation, and the development she has at the end of the season is wonderful and beautiful in equal parts, we are glad she has changed and wants to make things better, but what I went through was so horrible we just want her to do well in everything she does and I get some peace in this horrible world.
Rei was my favorite character and how Miri made him change little by little, he went from being the dark and scary character that only showed a little humanity while playing, also, in the first chapter Rei tries to rescue a kitten and Kazuki didn't let him, I didn't like that at all, although later they ended up adopting Miri and well, it was almost the same, only with more work, in short, Miri made Rei overcome many traumas and made him more treatable and beautiful than he already was.
Rei, Miri, and Kazuki made me laugh and cry in equal parts, Miri above all, that little girl, sometimes I would tie her up or glue her to a wall so she wouldn't move or get in trouble, and it's because of those kinds of thoughts that I know I'm not going to have children ever, no, ever, it will be horrible, I don't want to traumatize anyone anymore, being born is trauma enough and no one should go through that, I approve the use of a nuclear bomb to abort all the humans on earth.
