Hello my dear friends!

This film tells us the life of a girl rejected at her school and who lives with a rather crazy mother, who develops telekinetic powers which she uses to take revenge and kill everyone on the night of her school's prom after being a victim of a pretty bad joke. Although today I consider it one of my favorites, I remember that the first time I saw it it really scared me for several reasons, the first is that the actress chosen to play Carrie (Sissy Spacek) seems a little terrifying to me and the look on her face when she starts using her powers to kill everyone really gave me goosebumps.

Something that I like about this movie are the special effects, which are excellent for the time and there are many interesting scenes such as the one in which Carrie develops her powers but obviously the one that scared me the most was the dance scene in which Tommy Ross dies after the metal bucket falls on his head and Carrie is covered in blood, and then attacks everyone, and I confess that the scene in which she murders her mother by stabbing her with several kitchen objects, then the fact that she first stabbed Carrie from behind and chased her with the knife in her hand with a crazy face gave me nightmares, because it really shocked me to see how Carrie's mother died as if she were "crucified" and moaning before passing away.

The overall work of the actors was really very good but Sissy Spacek really was the best and I think no one would have been able to play Carrie like her and the story is also very good since despite being horror it leaves us with the lesson that it's not good to harass and bully someone at school and even more to the extreme as they did with Carrie, since we do not know what can trigger that. Although it doesn't seem so creepy to me at this point, I still can't help but get chills and I honestly consider it one of the best adaptations of Stephen King's novels, and even though it's an old movie, it's still very good.

Carrie is one of the best literary classics by Stephen King, an author of novels whose works have managed, at least for the most part, to be transferred to the film industry. The film I will talk about has had three adaptations, of which I have only managed to watch the one that came out in 1976 and the one from 2013. I will emphasize the most recent one, starring Chloe Moretz and the talented Julianne Moore.

To talk about Carrie is to mention one of the most classic scenes in cinema: that prom that ended in a massacre and that questioned the viewer's morals.

I had mixed emotions when I saw this remake, mainly because of what Carrie White, the main character, had to suffer because of the bullying she suffered at school. From the very first moment, we are shown a frightened girl, with big eyes and silently unhinged, who cushions her pain with her mental powers. Her mother, crazier than the daughter, lives tormented by the sinful memories of a girl begotten by pleasure and guilt. Carrie isn't evil, she's just mean to those who ruined her life...it's called revenge.

Of course, revenge drags even the innocent down. As a child, I suffered from bullying, and in those moments I longed for those mean kids to suffer, to feel pain from the words they said to me. What was it that I felt and why did I feel it? Anger and pain lead us to explode against people who hurt us, or hurt us. Violence and revenge are not the way, I know, but it is difficult to explain this to a person who suffers because someone else has trampled her so much that she has eliminated all traces of goodness from her.

Carrie follows this line of pain, after having a life full of misfortunes and contempt. Everything has an implosion point: when anger builds up, the repercussions are uncontrollable.

    image.png Filmaffinity

Now, let's go to the point where everything gets interesting: the prom. This scene is wonderful, maybe because the movie makes you emphasize so much with Carrie that, together with her, you feel that adrenaline that sentences stalkers. It is strange, I admit, that we manage to empathize with a person who ends up causing terrible damage. Here are the mixed emotions, Is it okay to be happy to see those who made you suffer? I think not, however, the film explains the dismay that ends up destroying in the name of revenge. Some accept this path, even if they end up sinking along with it.

Almost all the action in Carrie takes place at the prom. In the rest of the film, we notice the evolution of the protagonist, her fragile dementia, her amorous dreams, and her need to be seen as a normal girl. Tragedy is present, from beginning to end... this may be the creepiest horror.

    image.png Filmaffinity

Carrie is not an extraordinary film nor the best horror film I have ever seen. However, what makes Carrie unique is its connection to pain and its bloodlust for justice, that justice we sometimes wish for unconsciously, when we are victims of bullying. Human beings cannot control their emotions, can you imagine if we could have mental powers? That would represent chaos! It is better not to explore the possibility...

I must highlight, on the other hand, Julianne Moore's performance. I think she would have been a better fit for the role of Carrie, hahaha. I've always loved this woman since I saw her in Hannibal. Maybe I let myself get clouded, that's why, hahaha. Jokes more or jokes less, this movie is good to ask yourself a few questions. It's enjoyable, that's the important thing. After all, we'll look at the bitter-sweet side of revenge.

  3. Weekly Writing Prompts by CineTV - #12: The three Carrie@nbarrios671236d

There are many films and television series set in high schools framed within the genre called coming of age focused on the personal growth of the protagonist, others deal with mysteries to be solved in high school, and even deals with the issue of school abuse and the repercussions that this can bring in the abused.

We have seen comedy, drama, suspense and horror in films and series such as: Sixteen Candles, Dead Poets Society, Supercool, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Grease, Edge of Seventen, Booksmart, Merlina, Elite, Control Z, among many others.

That said, Carrie, in its three versions, fits within these high school films, since in addition to suffering the abuses of her evangelical mother, she is harassed by her mean classmates.

    Carrie.png

Carrie White, an outcast overly protected by her overbearing and ultra-religious mother who is tormented by her high school peers, despite all her efforts to fit in she must dramatically face a humiliation at the prom that leads her to retaliate and exact bloody revenge.

If you were looking for the school weirdo Carrie White is the poster child; no reflexes for sports, clothes that never fit in, and she never understood a joke, becoming the butt of teenage cruelties that baffled and hurt her in equal measure. It was not so easy to live with a mother who instilled such negative values, and so in many aspects of her life Carrie felt she was sinning.

Carrie's greatest hidden sin was her telekinetic powers, she could move things with her mind; just by concentrating on them and wishing them to move, she could make a candle fall, or a door close. These powers were repressed.

By an act of kindness, our protagonist manages to mingle with her classmates on the night of her graduation party. But a very cruel act towards her, detonates feelings in her that turn her into a weapon of terror and destruction.

This is how we can summarize Carrie's story, which has been taken twice to the cinema screens and once to television in Tv Movie format.

Stephen King launches his novel Carrie in 1974, his wife finds the first pages in the trash and encourages him to continue it, then achieves and was a real success, making Stephen King a recognized writer worldwide.

Brian De Palma in 1976 films the first of the Carrie movies, achieving a thriller that delves into social isolation and the need for acceptance, its protagonists are Sissy Spacek, Amy Irving, John Travolta, Nancy Allen, William Katt, Betty Buckley and Piper Laurie in the role of Carrie's mother. The film is a horror classic.

    [Source]( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuO26oJQLVs)

The fact that a movie or a Tv Movie is more faithful to the original work does not mean that it is the best of all the adaptations made. In 2002 David Carson presents the closest adaptation of the original text. Angela Bettis as Carrie White gives a very good performance. The film shows improvements in the special effects with respect to Carrie's powers, who in addition to telekinesis demonstrates her telepathic abilities, as described in Stephen King's book. This is the film that gives more powers to Carrie in contrast to Brian De Palma's film that focuses more on the protagonist's internal conflicts. In the 2002 telefilm, Carrie is able to wreck a city as described in the book, something we do not see in either of the other two versions.

    [Source]( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjuPv64o2Qs)

However, the ending is not at all similar to the novel, since this film is a pilot for a series that is never shot and eye can disappoint even the most fanatical fan of Stephen King's work.

Brian de Palma, develops the story better and makes it more agile by using only what is necessary from the book, while David Carson's version is so close to the book, that it is very tedious at times.

    [Source]( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gUlwJrSFJM)

The 2013 remake, directed by Kimberly Pierce, is an enjoyable film to watch. Chloë Grace Moretz performs a correct characterization of Carrie, but Julianne Moore as Margaret White, Carrie's mother, gives us a spectacular performance at the level of Piper Laurie in the first adaptation. The film is very similar to Brian de Palma's film, but includes characters and scenes that are superfluous and contribute nothing to the plot, hindering the flow of the film. It is a very commercial film, made to please the majority of the audience.

    [Source]( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QldeNeM9xNs9)

The three actresses fulfill in their performances when playing a character as complex and deep as Carrie White, but Sissy Spacek stands out for her huge and expressive eyes and a fantastic withdrawal in her gestures and voice. Angela Bettis, although at times overacted, manages to convey a sense of fear and tension, Chloë Grace Moretz does what she can and is the one who, due to her type, is the least adapted to what Stephen King wanted to convey with his vision of Carrie, she is too young and pretty.

For you who are reading this, what is the best version of Carrie?

This is my first publication in the new interface of CineTv, and I start with an idea that was suggested to me in the initiative Weekly Writing Prompts by CineTV - #12 Link Here, related to school.

I decided to talk about Carrie, a spectacular bloody and dramatic story, where the main trigger of the protagonist's rage occurs precisely inside the high school.

A pleasure and an honor to share with the community. Greetings to all.

    Plot / Trama

The story tells us about the life of Carrie White, a 16-year-old girl who is quite shy and quite annoyed by her classmates, whose mother is a rather unstable religious fanatic and never spoke to her daughter about the process of experiencing her first menstruation, so when she experiences it in the showers at her school she panics causing her classmates to humiliate her by throwing sanitary napkins at her. At school Carrie's bullies are punished for a week, however Christine Hargensen decides to take revenge so she and her boyfriend break into a farm killing pigs to collect their blood in a bucket so they can throw it on top of Carrie at the prom. graduation, as they cheat to get her named prom queen as Sue Snell who is sorry for humiliating Carrie decides not to go to the dance and tells her boyfriend Tommy Ross to ask Carrie to the dance.

Although Carrie initially believes that the invitation to the dance is a joke, but after Tommy shows her that it is genuine, she decides to accept. Carrie discovers that she possesses powers of telekinesis as she puts aside her shyness, despite her mother's protests she prepares for the dance by getting ready and wearing a beautiful pink dress. Before leaving, Carrie's mother discovers her telekinetic powers and accuses her of being a witch. The dance at first goes smoothly, Tommy and Carrie are named Prom King and Queen and when they both take the stage Carrie begins to feel happy and finally accepted. Sue discovers Christine's evil plan and tries to stop her but is kicked out of the dance by her teacher who thinks she is plotting something against Carrie, so when Carrie is crowned Christine pulls the bucket and immediately the bucket's blood falls on Carrie, who hallucinates that they are making fun of her and using her powers starts attacking everyone in the school gym causing a fire and locking everyone up. Carrie goes to her house but on her way Christine and her boyfriend try to run her over but Carrie uses her powers to make the car flip and explode killing them both.

Once at home, a crying Carrie bathes and cleans all the blood from her body, her mother comforts her but then stabs her with a knife. Carrie uses her powers to levitate sharp implements and send them towards her mother which crucifies her, then Carrie destroys the house killing herself and her mother. The movie ends with Sue having a nightmare in which she visits Carrie's dilapidated house and she pulls her with her arm.

    My Opinion / Mi Opinión

Ok, I'll start by saying that this is one of my favorite horror movies, it's based on a book by Stephen King which is my favorite. The work of the actors is excellent, especially Sissy Spacek as Carrie White since in my opinion the face she makes when she starts using her powers in the dance covered in blood is really quite terrifying, also Margaret, Carrie's mother who with his religious fanaticism and the way he treats Carrie he manages to be very convincing and quite scary. In my opinion, the entire cast in general did an excellent job in making the film a total work of art.

I'm really against bullying and harassing people in schools so I totally hated the way they treated Carrie who also had to deal with a really crazy mother in the head, but I think this movie goes to show how bad that is and that things like that shouldn't happen since we all should accept and respect others, and although Carrie's reaction at the dance was quite exaggerated since no one was really making fun of her even though she thought it was because of an hallucination I would say that I really liked that he gave Christine and her boyfriend Billy what they deserved for the atrocity they did to him (of course the way was also exaggerated but it was good hahaha). Needless to say, the scenes where Carrie is humiliated are my least favorite in the movie, but the scenes where she uses her powers are my favorite.

I really loved the photography of the film, the setting is excellent as well as the color palette. The special effects are also amazing as they were used in the best way to add realism to the movie. I thought the story was quite good and although it is a little different from the book it is still engaging and I have no complaints about it, I think the writers did an incredible job as well as the whole team in general and the soundtrack is also quite good and He manages to add a great touch to the film.

To finish, I would say that this movie is one of the best horror movies I've seen, in general terms it's very well done and I never get tired of watching it. It also has a remake made in 2013 which, although in my opinion it is also quite good, I would say that I do not like it as much as this version, I would like to recommend this film to all those who have not yet had the opportunity to see it, I assure you that they won't regret it.

  5. The Prom Went Wild Because of CARRIE White (Review of the movie "CARRIE")@tegoshei1748d

A couple weeks back, I watched another film under the horror genre and it's called Carrie. It's originally based on Stephen King's book of the same name. The one I watched from Netflix is said to be the third remake and many people are quite disappointed about it. However, I can't say so myself since I can't compare it with anything.
Anyhow, let's get on with the review.

Carrie White is a teenager who is being bullied in her high school. She's raised by her single mom who is kind of paranoid and often inflicts pain on herself. She is some sort of a Bible-freak and considers everyone a sinner. I believe this behavior of her mother made Carrie kind of aloof and have low self-esteem.
Because of her personality and perhaps appearance, she has been a subject to bullying. Strangely, she developed telekinesis and she somehow found ways to control it. Then at some point, Carrie White reached her limit and using her newfound power, everything just exploded during their prom.

It was actually an OK film. The plot is good and quite thrilling. It also teaches the viewers a lesson about life and how to treat others. However, I think the movie doesn't really have much of an oomph. I don't know... maybe the effects weren't as good as the other movies I've watched or something like that. Well, there were interesting scenes like the gym bathroom and the road scene, but I believe the other scenes could have been better. I don't know much about technicalities and stuff, but as a viewer, I know there's something that's lacking.

Anyway, Chloe Grace Moretz is so pretty, so no complains at all. She's still pretty despite being covered in blood. *haha*
In the end, I still enjoyed the movie... I just wonder what exactly happened at the end... but I think viewers can only make their own interpretation of it which is also a good thing. Would I recommend it? Well, it's not bad... but I recommend it if you have extra time. :)

  7. Halloween Horrors: 'Carrie' (1976) by Brian De Palma Review: A question of morality and use of power@namiks2458d

    Carrie.jpg

It has been a long, long time since I last did this, maybe even over a year at this point, but my love for Halloween has remained. It's a bit harder to stick to the schedule of attempting to watch a horror each day, especially reviewing them as well: currently sick, constantly tired, and I have my own production schedule this month, too.

That said, I'll be attempting to write about as many as I can still! Starting with the 1976 film, and Stephen King adaptation, of Carrie.

As is the case with most films adapted to the big screen, Carrie certainly breathes the usual tones and pacing you'd expect, with its obscure story in which characters suffer from broken families and otherworldly forces that inevitably results in catastrophe and more suffering.

These narratives from King often take a page from reality, where the fragility of man's own mind can be explored: the ways in which the highly religious may react and cause even more pain and suffering as a result of their misunderstanding of the unknown can be seen even in Carrie. These films often display our minds and reactions as the more dangerous threat to society.

Carrie, a teenage girl in high school, is carrying the immense emotional weight of simply wanting to fit in and be accepted among her students. She's rather different to the rest, and perceived as a loner. Her life a social outcast serves as the foundation to a larger issue: Carrie has the ability to move things with her mind, a talent that has been heavily sheltered by her highly religious mother, which perceives this talent as nothing more than evil.

The film takes on a slow pace as it shows us the lonesome life of Carrie White. Her desperate want to be accepted, and her want to escape from the sheltered life she lives with her mother. Though what we see is the painfully oblivious and fragile ticking time-bomb falling victim to endless exploitation and total lack of support. It becomes blatant that upcoming events may lead to utter chaos as a result of her powers.

For a film set in the 70s, Carrie falls victim to the typical tropes of the era: actors playing the parts of teenagers despite blatantly being in their 30's, high school social statuses, cinematography that focuses on close-up visuals to seem more daunting. This isn't to say that those are negatives of the film, but that it's understandable that many might not enjoy the film as a result.

That said, I personally rather enjoyed the art direction and cinematography. It relied on slower visuals and the use of colour and sound to amplify Carrie's slow decent into madness. One could even make the joke that Carrie White begins a transition into Carrie Red as the colours and tones begin to shift. Her eyes beginning to almost pop from her skull and take on an almost automated form of movement as her powers begin to become more and more out of her control.

The question as to whether Carrie is evil is up to the viewer. Her actions seeming fair and inevitable as a result of the bullying she's experienced. Once could make the argument that her powers are even a fair defence that protects her from the more genuine evils of the world: humans and the way they treat each other.
