Brian Jennings, a very cautious forensic accountant, is fired from his job after refusing to help his boss' son and his buddies to cover up millions in losses. While his wife Emily (played by Sarah Chalke) returns to work, Brian tries to connect with his stepson, Lucas, who is more interested in dance than sports and deals with bullying from his schoolmates.
A morning, while he tries to have a quality time with Lucas, Brian meets Jeff Eamon and his son CJ; although reluctant and suspicious due to Jeff's impulsive nature, Brian gives in to Lucas's plea to go to the Eamons' house to spend the afternoon... Unaware that this would only be the beginning of an adventure involving mad scientists, corrupt generals, and groups of mothers who think they're tough.
Playdate is a 2025 movie directed by Luke Greenfield and starred by Kevin James (Brian) and Alan Ritchson (Jeff). It premiered this month in Amazon Prime.
Now, I must say that the script itself is plagued of references to various films from the 1990s, such as Universal Soldier (1992), Thelma and Louise (1991), and the French film Taxi (1998), mainly due to the themes of genetic bioengineering and high-speed chase scenes. The absurd humor also stands out; a prime example of this is the scene where Jeff, Brian, CJ, and Lucas visit Jeff's estranged father, Gordon (played by Stephen Root); in his apartment, Gordon shows Brian and Lucas what Jeff was like as a child... And it turns out that the guy was identical to CJ. This is where the “revelation” occurs that CJ is indeed Jeff's son, which seems to be confirmed later in the scene where both Jeff and CJ make a series of mirror gestures such as opening their mouths and dancing.
Is it a film to pass the time? Definitely. It's not a film with grand pretensions; it's just a crazy story about two men who are just experiencing fatherhood with mixed feelings, feeling the weight of a responsibility for which neither of them is prepared, but at least each one tries in his own way.
›Child's Play (1988) | Nattosheru Review [ENG/SPA]@nattosenpai258d
Hello, horror fans. We continue with more slasher movies that scared more than one generation. Although, in this case, I doubt that anyone was actually terrified by this film. A supernatural work with an innovative idea that gave rise to one of the most loyal and long-lived franchises in the horror genre. Directed by Tom Holland (the director, not the actor), this film was written based on a story by Don Mancini. It stars Brad Dourif, Catherine Hicks, Chris Sarandon, Alex Vincent, and Dinah Manoff. I invite you to remember a horror classic that gave rise to an excessive fear and hatred of child-sized toys.

The film begins with a chase: two armed criminals escape from a police officer who is pursuing them while his partner surrounds them in his car. One of the criminals escapes in a truck and leaves the other trying to hide from the police. After several exchanges of gunfire, the remaining criminal is shot in the foot and decides to hide in a toy store. The police officer pursues him and searches the entire place until he manages to shoot him again. Before dying, the criminal decides to grab a toy and recites what appears to be a voodoo spell. The sky clouds over and thunder strikes the toy store, causing it to explode. Finally, the police find the criminal's lifeless body, and the next morning it is reported in the news that Charles Lee Ray, the dangerous serial killer, has died.

Trama
This is truly an unforgettable horror classic for me, even though I have a very poor memory and can hardly remember any of the movies I saw as a child. But it's probably because this film didn't scare me much at the time that I remember it so clearly. Well, compared to films like Cannibal Holocaust and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the film I'm talking about today is more of a joke or satire in comparison. But it's more because of the idea of a possessed doll as the main antagonist. It sounds like a joke now, but in the 1980s it was undoubtedly something innovative and ingenious for American cinema. No wonder horror movies with possessed dolls have become so popular since then.
However, unlike modern films such as Annabelle and M3GAN, Child's Play is a work that is based not on a spirit or AI controlling a toy, but on a serial killer. Chucky (Charles Lee Ray) is, without a doubt, one of the best-made characters in the world of slasher horror. In previous reviews, I've brought you cannibals and psychopaths, but they are no match for this monster, which, over time, has undergone an interesting and quite mind-blowing development and evolution. But what makes him truly special is his knowledge of voodoo, and that is what makes him a terrifying being. Anyone would be creeped out to see a doll stab or murder someone with a hammer in the middle of the night.
And I think that both the introduction and Chucky's personality in this film make him the center of entertainment. Because there is no other way to explain everything you see in this hour-and-a-half film other than pure entertainment, whether it's the mix of suspense, mystery, and horror, or the crimes and murders that are quite scandalous or absurd. Of course, just keeping in mind the idea that, I repeat, it is a doll that is committing all these evil acts, it is absurd that no one can kill him so easily. Obviously, we forget that we are talking about a serial killer, a genius at killing in a rather surreal way, to be honest. And I think that because of the ingenuity the film demonstrates, it deserves its points in its favor, to be honest.
Another positive point about the film is that it doesn't try to scare us with lots of jump scares or tense atmospheres. While it has its suspense well added from the beginning, it becomes a life-and-death chase in the end. The plot, while very simple to follow, manages to hook anyone with the idea that the person accompanying and pursuing a six-year-old boy is not a spirit or some kind of mysterious entity, but a very dangerous serial killer. That's why, surely, many will stay to see how it ends. Obviously, today we can say that this is not the case, since from the late 1980s to the present, the Chucky franchise has undergone many changes and evolutions to become what we know today.

While there are sequels that are fascinating and much more entertaining, this first installment of Chucky is, without a doubt, a work worth remembering. This pure and terrifying version of the famous evil doll is one of the best, and those who have seen it can confirm that this is the case. As someone who has seen almost all the films and even the television series based on this same story, I can assure you that this first installment—free of dark humor, easter eggs, bad jokes, and surreal or computer-generated murders—is one of the best there is. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a fan of the classic, as you can see how sincere I am with works like Halloween. It's because this classic manages to deliver on everything it promises from the beginning.
As for the cast, I have nothing to complain about, to be honest. Apart from the actor who plays the killer and then the possessed doll, he is more than excellent as the antagonist and villain. His level of obsession, cruelty, and desire to survive and kill is even admirable, to be honest. While I do have my complaints about his death, it's more like one of many details related to the script and the character of Chucky himself that I never quite understand. As for the other characters, I don't really have much to say either. I complain about the occasional incompetence or typical generic performance of every murder or persecution victim that is always present in any slasher movie that exists. But otherwise, there is nothing wrong with any of the characters.

I suppose that, as this is the first installment in a long series of films and sequels in which each main character has been extended, transformed, and exploited, it is normal for me to have an inconclusive opinion of the characters as such. From little Andy to the officer in charge of Charles Lee Ray's case, there is very little to say about this film, really. On the other hand, the theme of voodoo and all that really catches my attention because, at first glance, it seems like a way for the creator and writer of this movie to make Chucky a being capable of living even after being killed in the flesh. While there are obviously things I don't know about this subject, I admit that the way they showed us this in the movie is mind-blowing.
Last but not least is the audiovisual aspect of this film. I must admit that Chucky's design and appearance are simply perfect for what is sought in the first place: a toy that appears to be innocent but ultimately hides a rather terrifying face and being. The use of practical effects, animatronics, explosions, makeup, moving photography styles, and camera angles is excellent. Despite its age, the film has aged very well for a story about a doll that moves on its own. The sound effects are also excellent, as they greatly enhance the atmosphere of many scenes. The same goes for the soundtrack, which is also unforgettable. In short, this is a classic and quite entertaining horror film.
Personally, I give it a rating of 8/10 in terms of the supernatural horror genre.
Tell me, have you seen this movie yet? What did you think of it? You can leave your answer in the comments.
Dime, ¿ya has visto esta película? ¿Qué te ha parecido? Puedes dejarme tu respuesta en los comentarios.
Ever watched a movie that scared you so much that you couldn't move from where you saw it?
Or a movie that kept you glued to the end even though it's a series and super scary?
Then, what about seeing a movie years ago and you still can tell a lot of scenes and how you felt about the movie?
If you haven't, I have and that was me in the year 2013 - 2014 when I was living with Grandma and her grand kids including myself decided to see movie when she went to the market.
We saw the poster of the movie collection that it was going to be a horror, we were sure but we went ahead to see it since we had the five of us to hold on to should in case it got way to scarier for us to bear with.
See the little girl on my designed image? That was our position while we saw the movie, we couldn't have a relaxed mind seeing it but we kept watching like our lives depended on it. I remember the youngest of us burst into tears asking that grandma returns from the market soon since it was getting dark but we were adamant and wanted to see how it all ends in the movie.
What movie did we see? CHUCKY!!!
Chucky has a lot of it released in different years but the one I'm talking about was the collection released in the year 2013 I think. It had just came out when our aunt brought it home thinking it was just a doll cartoon 🥲 well, she was wrong but we never told her until she saw it herself.
Chucky is a movie about a doll that was possessed by an evil spirit of a serial killer, the doll is gifted to a five year old boy by his parents who knew nothing about the evil thing they got for their son... You can imagine the scenes that played out when the doll tries to possess the boy and killing people without hesitation. The collection had four parts in it that we made sure to see from start to finish.
Curse of Chucky - When the doll (Chucky) got possessed and gifted to the boy.
Cult of Chucky - When he came back for a revenge after being killed.
Bride of Chucky - Chucky even got a partner to continue it's evil acts.
Seed of Chucky - Of course, a child to show for it who carried on his evil acts.
Just look at how scary that face looks, imagine seeing it act it evil when you were much younger! 😂
This was even before he got tampered with by humans in attempt to kill it but he kept surviving all attempts turning him into a more hideous doll until he gave up for his child to continue. The movie is an old one but I could still remember a whole lot of scenes from it that still creeps in scares in my heart even at this age.
Shockingly, there were funny scenes in the movie that we laughed and forgot how scary it had been before that scene... What I'll call, "A horror masterpiece"
You get shocked while you were laughing, the scenes were all unexpected aside the fact that we were definitely expecting it to be scary and it always turn out that way. I remember a scene that got all five of us holding each others hand in fear but our eyes were still fixed on the TV.
It was the scene where Chucky killed the parents of the little boy so he could have more space to possess the boy
That doesn't seem scary when I just wrote it but the process Chucky used in killing them was the scary part and the fact that he laughs with pride after every kill got to our emotions deeply.
My final thoughts about the movie
It was a perfect horror movie and the very first that scared the hell out of me back then even though it would be like a poorly acted out movie now. I still remember not being in a dark place alone even years after but I've gone over it, don't know how though.
Would I see the movie again if I had the chance to? Definitely no! Don't ask me why because the reason is supposed to be obvious considering that it had an effect on my childhood and I'm a huge of fan of kdramas now lol.
Hello dear moviegoing friends! Although there are only a few days left for this interesting contest to end, I am still very excited to participate so today I would like to tell you about one of my favorite horror movies from my childhood, it is Child's Play which was released in 1988 through from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and stars Catherine Hicks, Chris Sarandon, Alex Vincent and Brad Dourif. I hope you like it.
¡Hola queridos amigos cinéfilos! Espero sea de su agrado.
Plot / Trama

Chucky begins to manipulate the boy and forces him to skip school to go to where Eddie lives, Charles's accomplice, there Chucky kills him by causing a gas explosion, which they blame Andy who again says that the culprit is Chucky but they do not believe him again and they lock him up in a psychiatric hospital. Karen realizes that Chucky has been running out of batteries as they fall out of the box but when she is about to burn him he violently attacks her. She talks to the police who don't believe her either, however Detective Mike is also attacked by Chucky when he brings Karen to her house.
Chucky goes to the hospital where they have Andy but Andy manages to escape to his house however Chucky knocks him unconscious but when he intends to do the possession ritual Karen and Mike interrupt and defend Andy but Chucky stabs Mike like this Karen throws him into the fireplace so Chucky burns, however then he attacks them again so Karen shoots him causing him to fly to pieces but since Chucky has more lives than a cat when Mike's partner arrives at the apartment but he Refusing to believe their story, Chucky tries to strangle him so they shoot him again this time in the heart, finally killing Chucky.
I remember that the first time I saw it, I think I was 5 or 6 years old and the doll scared me a lot, however, as a good masochist I always liked to see it every time it was shown on television and my dad later bought it for me on VHS. It is one of the movies that I have seen the most times, I consider that the actors did a great job with the development of the characters, especially Alex Vincent who was 7 years old when they recorded the movie and even so, in my opinion, he did a pretty good job. In general, I liked all the performances, but my favorite character was Andy.
I really liked the photography as well as the color palette used. The special effects are also to be admired since they managed to give Chucky a lot of realism since, although he is actually an animatronic puppet, they worked perfectly. I also liked his design a lot since he is not only scary when he is possessed, but also when he is not, since in his harmless appearance he also seemed quite creepy to me. The plot also seems good and entertaining to me, I think this is the best movie of all those that have been released in the saga since in my opinion it started to turn bad after the fourth installment, and not to mention the last 3 movies that stopped me are the worst.
I also liked the soundtrack a lot since it really gives the movie a spooky touch, although right now as an adult I'm not too scared to see it, I remember how much it scared me as a child. Although the movie has already been released for many years, it is my favorite since a few years ago they released a remake of this movie but honestly I did not like it since they not only changed Chucky's appearance, which looks like he just came out of surgery aesthetics, but also the plot is not that good so I'm sticking with this 1988 version and would like to recommend it to everyone who hasn't seen it yet, I promise you won't regret it.

›CineTv Contest - Chucky In "Child's Play" Got Me Scared@merit.ahama1535d
I saw the new contest from Cinetv asking to see horror movies entries for this week and the first movie that came to my mind got me scared all over again. Its been long I watched this movie, like 15 years ago 😳 yeah, that long but I still get scared just trying to remember a scene from the movie.
Child's play is a movie that was released in the year 1988 and I got to see the movie around 2014, the movie was popular for a very long time for me to have found it to watch and be among the kids who were so scared to get close to a doll baby.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching horror movies but I never watch it alone... Never 😂 except you want me to be a crybaby. I remember when I first started watching this movie, I was alone and in a haste to watch it before my siblings got up from bed because I had thought it was just another kind of "Tom and Jerry".
Don't laugh at me when I say, I ran back to bed to find sleep after watching two scenes 😂 it was that scary to me back then. I waited for my siblings to be awake so we could watch it together even though I knew it was a whole new kind of movie... I was so curious.
The movie plot will be like:
A single mother gives her son a much sought-after doll for his birthday, only to discover that it is possessed by the soul of a serial killer.
But what I saw in that movie was way more than just some plot although it gave me a hint not to watch it but I disobeyed and it has remained one of the most scariest movies I've seen.
Chucky (The lead actor in the movie) who is the most scariest look in the movie was a normal baby doll that every parent wanted to buy for their kids until a serial killer possessed it before his death.
Andy's mum bought it out of love for him and he was so happy to have a cute and rare doll... Not knowing his torment was about to start. I got really scared when I was yet to see Chucky's real new face after it was possessed, but he just kept killing people around with no mercy (His face yet revealed at the first few scenes of his killings).
When his face was finally revealed, I found myself closely my eyes at different scenes just to minimise the level of my being scared. But my curiosity got me determined to finish the movie.
The fact that it started with a man possessing an innocent doll baby with his evil spirit, I was not surprised it wanted to possess the little Andy (The child has to be 7 or 8 to be possessed if I remember correctly) and Andy was a perfect soul... Chucky decided to find ways to possess the child but mostly failed.
Chucky seemed indestructible as it was a spirit that had it acting like that but the end of the movie showed that Andy was free from Chucky and then it shocked me to find out that more of the movie collection came out and showed that chucky didn't actually died but was in search of souls to kill or possess.
You can check the other movies out, there are eight collections of Child's play and that means eight collections of horror feelings 🥶
Well, I'm yet to watch the recent release and maybe I won't 😂 no, I'm not scared... Just prefer my kdramas.
I found this movie on Netflix and was interested because the cover and trailer had Chucky vibes. It was released in 2019 and is a reboot of the Child's Play franchise. It stars Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman, Brian Tyree Henry and Mark Hamill (Chucky's voiceover artist). It follows the story of a high-tech doll who joins a family and causes havoc all around.
The Plot
In a doll factory, an employee is fired at his job and in anger, he tampers with the doll's operating system then goes ahead to commit suicide. Eyes unusually lit, the defective doll, Buddi, is packed with the other Buddi dolls and shipped.
Karen who works at a retail store where the Buddi dolls are sold gets hold of one of the Buddi dolls which was returned by a customer for being defective. She convinces her boss to give it to her and she gifts it to her son, Andy, as an early birthday present.
The doll is activated and connected to the house and it's able to communicate with a very excited Andy. He asks Andy to give him a name and he ignores Andy, naming himself 'Chucky' instead. He shows other defective signs which are ignored by Karen and puzzling to Andy.
Andy introduces Chucky to other kids in the building and they're all fascinated by the doll. While watching a movie, Chucky picks up all the cuss words and violent activities. He later picks up a knife and tries to stab one of the kids but is stopped by Andy.
As Andy's 'best friend' and Buddi, Chucky becomes overly protective and makes it his mission to get rid of anything and any person that causes the slightest inconvenience to Andy. This makes him kill Andy's cat and also leads to other murders.
Who will stop Chucky?
My Thoughts
I laughed the whole of this movie not because it was funny, but because of how dumb it was. Everything about it was poor and it was funny to see how hard the actors were trying to look serious for such a dumb plot.
The Andy kid was very annoying. Karen was annoying. The police guy was annoying. The bloody doll was annoying! I couldn't believe what I was watching. Why is this even labelled a horror movie? It's too embarrassing to be called that.
It's the same old slasher movie premise and the cast did no justice to it whatsoever. That kid kept screaming that nobody was listening to him or taking him seriously. Dude! Your doll was moving crazy and you couldn't tell your mum, now you say nobody listens to you?
The forced emotional attachment between the doll and Andy has to be the worst thing in the whole movie. Okay, maybe the second worst because that police guy's horrible acting was the absolute worst.
The Karen lady was so uninvolved, it was like she was just an extra in the movie. I'm laughing right now as I remember the scene where Chucky had her tied up. So so bad 🤦♀
In fact, don't watch this movie, there's nothing in it for you but a waste of your time.
