    Overwhelming world

The world around us can overwhelm us so much that we can't make a move. Director Antonio Campos portrays a story that is based on true events. The film is a stage of depression that slowly builds up, and when it is big enough then there is no escape. As I mentioned the film bites based on the life of Chritine Chubbuck, who works in city television, dreams of leaving here, but being a woman she feels that she is not treated adequately. The swirl around her is a ticking bomb, every decision causes young 30-year-old Christine to slowly begin to lose herself in the world around her. She can't find love, understanding or friendship, and constant failures make her walk a fine line.

When the director orders her to start shooting more serious reports in Christine slowly everything changes. A growing stomach ache, which turns out to be a serious illness, and a lack of understanding e home worsen the situation. Christine portrays the last days of the reporter's life in a rather interesting way. We get to know her when she still has strength and wants a lot until it all ends.

On July 15, 1974, while running the news, she delivered her most famous question and also a manifesto related to brutality. , "In accordance with Channel 40's policy of bringing you blood and guts live and in color, you will see for the first time - a suicide attempt'' - source Wikipedia. The U.S. on froze seeing what happened. The film focuses to show how it came to how much suffering the heroine went through to finally come to the final step. The film also shows that man will always choose what is terrible because human nature is always curious.

In the course of 2 hours we learn about Christine's fate, her dreams and plans for the future, and her shaken psyche which is unfortunately put to the test once again. It is a desire to understand a person who, fighting his own demons, tries to function in society, which is often terribly difficult. The film is great, I recommend watching as it is the most famous case in the history of television.

Kiedy dyrektor nakazuje by zaczęła kręcić poważniejsze reportaże w Christine powoli zmienia się wszystko.

W 15 lipca 1974 roku w czasie prowadzenia wiadomości wygłosiła swoją najsłynniejsza kwestie i jednocześnie manifest związany z brutalnością.

  2. Movie review | Christine (1983)@filoso1653d

    youtube

Just looking at the title of this movie, it's so pretty, isn't it? But like 1976's Carrie, it's a cool name and an extremely scary movie. Let's start with scenes from "Christine (1983)", another horror masterpiece from John Carpenter, directorof Michael Myers' Halloween series, which never runs, walks slowly, but knows exactly where he wants to kill and findsit. This movie is based on the novel by Stephen King.

Christine is the name given to a car by the protagonist of this movie. However , the problem is that this car is inherently possessed by the  devil. At the time, it was just a movie, but since the 1990s, it has become a cult classic. The 'devil's car' was written by the 1958 Plymouth Fury, and the story goes like this: In an American high school, there is a nerd named Arnie, and his cool friend, Dennis, who protects him. Arnie is always bullied by the school thugs, and a shy Arnie buys a junk car she stumbles upon thinking that she might be able to somehow manage her own car.

After that, Arnie is so obsessed with this car (probably the car seduced Arnie), and I don't know what happened, but her personality gradually changes. He starts dating a cool girl who has just transferred to school, and even drinks and cigarettes that he couldn't drink - he turns violent, and people around him wonder if this car might be the cause.

School thugs don't like Arnie's car, so one night they completely destroy it. Arnie finds her car broken the next day and is very discouraged, and while trying to fix it that night, she discovers that the car is self-fixing little by little. From that day on, Arnie believes that this car has life and begins to love a woman. As if realizing this, the demon's car begins to kill Arnie and the people around him who are hostile to him one by one. The ending ends with Dennis flattening this demon's car with a heavy machine and 'cutting it off'. This car that makes me nervous every time I see it, in fact, the 1958 Plymouth Fury is a really cool car, and it seems to have an image of the devil's car after this movie.

Watching the movie, you will be really drawn to this beautiful car's exterior, color, whitewall tires, and the unique interior of a car from the '60s. Seeing it completely destroyed and then restored is a joy to see. An American pop song from the '60s that plays in the background - it's spooky, like the ghost of Elvis.

There is news that this classic masterpiece will be remake in 2021. Of course I'm not going to watch it, but Hollywood seems to have run out of creativity beyond 2010. I just hope they make a Marvel series or an animation, or a rapid-fire spy movie or a Liam Neeson series where only the lines are fired, and please don't touch the old masterpieces.

  3. Film Review: Christine (1983)@drax1744d

    (source: tmdb.org)

Nine years after Carrie turned Stephen King into master of American horror literature and five years after Halloween turned John Carpenter into master of American horror films those two reputations converged in Christine, Carpenter’s adaptation of King’s best-selling novel. The resulting film, while having solid quality, was deemed underwhelming by most of the critics.

The plot begins in 1957 Detroit car factory when freshly produced Plymouth Fury gets involved in two separate incidents leaving one of the workers maimed and another killed. In 1978 the same car is rusting in Rockbridge, California before he is spotted by Arnie Cunningham (played by Keith Gordon), nerdish high student who depends on Dennis Guilder (played by John Stockwell), his only friend and school athlete, for transportation. He gets an idea to get it and, despite disapproval by Dennis and his parents, buys it from menacing-looking George LeBay (played by Roberts Blossom) and names it “Christine”. He then spends all of his free time and local do-it-yourself garage in order to restore the car to its former glory. Result of this effort is not only complete restoration of the car, but also Arnie transforming his looks into archetypal 1950s greaser and getting enough confidence to start dating Leigh Cabot (played by Alexandra Paul), the most beautiful girl in the school. That relationship, however, starts to decay when Leigh begins suspecting that Arnie loves “Christine” more than he loves her. To make things even worse, the car apparently has a will of its own and during the date in drive-in cinema Leigh nearly chokes in an incident that convinces her that “Christine” is jealous of her. Soon after that, the car is wrecked by a gang of school bullies led by Buddy Repperton (played by William Ostrander), former student who wants to get even for being expelled after previous conflict with Arnie. Devastated at first, Arnie soon sees that “Christine” has ability to spontaneously regenerate and soon afterwards Repperton and his gang become prey of a car with murderous intentions.

Christine has flaws, but initially hostile reaction by critics is hardly justified. It can be best explained by expectations based on Halloween and De Palma’s adaptation of Carrie, which were too lofty and unrealistic to be actually met. Carpenter didn’t consider this film as personal project and was motivated mostly by desire to remain in good graces of big Hollywood studios, but he nevertheless did professional job. Christine is superbly directed and edited and it contains many memorable scenes. With the use of special effects and superb stunt work Carpenter created a car that functions as a character of its own. He also spiced the film with bits of black humour and semi-ironic treatment of 1950s nostalgia, best seen in the scenes when “Christine” starts doing something while the radio suddenly starts playing 1950s rock&roll songs with lyrics that serve as sarcastic commentary of what is going on. This include a final showdown in which Carpenter uses a lot of ingenuity and applies ideas that would later inspire James Cameron for the similar final scene in Aliens.

Carpenter is helped by very good cast. Keith Gordon, one of the more underappreciated actors of his generations, is great in rather complex role of character that starts as harmless nerd with whom audience could sympathise only to end as murderous lunatic. John Stockwell is also good in the role of his friend who serves as some anchor to normalcy, although this character is somewhat underused. Alexandra Paul, who would later become famous for her Baywatch role, is also good in somewhat thankless role and despite lack of proper chemistry with Gordon. Like in many other Carpenter’s films, impression is even better thanks to character actors like Robert Prosky in the role of menacing garage owner and veteran Harry Dean Stanton as intelligent police detective investigating the increasingly macabre events. Carpenter is less fortunate with his music score, which is forgettable and sometimes annoying when it is compared with much more impressive 1950s rock and pop classics. Some of the character subplots aren’t handled well and Arnie’s character transformation is too quick. Some of the scenes also depend on too many characters acting stupid, like targets of “Christine” deciding to use middle of the asphalt road as the best route to escape pursuing car. But those flaws can be forgiven due to Carpenter’s superb skill and Christine can be recommended to audience broader than his fans, old car enthusiasts and those nostalgic for second half of 20th Century.

It's a horror movie that was released in 1983 and it's an adaptation of Stephen King's book.

In short, a young teenager falls in love with an old car, a 1958 plymouth fury who decides to repair but several accidents happen not far from the car ...

In conclusion, this is a film directed by John Carpenter and it is a very good film that ages well. Plus, if you want to listen to it, it's available until September 30 on Netflix after it leaves the platform.

    I give it the note of 8.3 / 10.
