Clickbait: The Dangerous End of the Internet and Technology, a miniseries not to be missed

If you feel like watching something suspenseful that won't let you take your eyes off the screen, I invite you to watch the miniseries Clickbait, an impressive production with an unthinkable ending.

How are my Hive friends? I hope very well, especially in Movies & TV Shows. Today I'll share with you this miniseries that I discovered a few days ago, that I don't know how I didn't see before. Actually, it was recommended to me by Netflix, but I had no idea of its existence.

Clickbait comes to tell the story of an ordinary family, with problems and secrets like any other, but with a small-big detail: somehow social networks reached these people and now their lives, from one moment to another, have changed completely, since a member of the family is threatened with death, and everything starts to revolve around this.

Si tienen ganas de ver algo de suspenso que no los deje despegarse de la pantalla, los invito a ver la miniserie Clickbait, una producción impresionante con un final impensado.

¿Cómo están mis amigos de Hive? Espero que muy bien, en especial en Movies & TV Shows. Hoy les compartiré esta miniserie que descubrí hace unos días, que no se cómo no vi antes. En verdad, me la recomendó Netflix, pero yo no tenía idea de su existencia.

Clickbait nos viene a contar la historia de una familia común y corriente, con problemas y secretos como cualquier otra, pero con un pequeño-gran detalle: de alguna manera las redes sociales alcanzaron a estas personas y ahora sus vidas, de un momento a otro, han cambiado por completo, ya que un integrante de la familia está amenazado de muerte, y todo empieza a girar en torno a esto.

The production is excellent. There are many issues that are addressed, but basically what we see is the ability of social networks to influence people's lives, causing them to even change their minds about their own family members.

Everything that a person has built throughout his life could be affected by what is exposed on the Internet, even if the creator of the content is anonymous.

In this series we see the protagonist, Nick Brewer (Adrian Grenier), accused by the internet of very serious acts, and not only this, but apparently this man has been kidnapped and has hours to live.

Nick is married, the father of two young children and appears to be an upright man and very respectful of his family, except for his dubious relationship with his sister, at least according to what is presented at the beginning of the story. However... is Nick such a good person? The miniseries keeps you in a permanent maybe yes and maybe no, in a back-and-forth that doesn't let up until the last episode (I loved this).

The series unfolds showing how his sister Pia (Zoe Kazan) and his wife Sophie (Betty Gabriel), start a search that goes beyond the personal world, and reaches the authorities, among which Roshan Amiri (Phoenix Raei) commands the case to reach a solution and rescue this man.

La producción es excelente. Son muchos los temas que se abordan, pero básicamente lo que vemos es la capacidad que tienen las redes sociales de influir en la vida de las personas, provocando que las mismas incluso cambien de opinión sobre sus propios familiares.

Todo lo que una persona construyó a lo largo de su vida, podría verse afectado por lo que se expone en internet, aunque el creador del contenido sea anónimo.

En esta serie vemos al protagonista, Nick Brewer (Adrian Grenier), acusado por internet de actos gravísimos, y no solo esto, sino que en apariencia este hombre ha sido secuestrado y le quedan horas de vida.

Nick está casado, es padre de dos pequeños y aparenta ser un hombre recto y muy respetuoso con su familia, a excepción de su dudosa relación con su hermana, al menos según lo que presentan ni bien iniciada la historia. Sin embargo… ¿es tan buena persona Nick? La miniserie te mantiene en un permanente quizás sí y quizás no, en un vaivén que no cesa hasta el último episodio (me encantó esto).

La serie se desarrolla mostrando cómo su hermana Pia (Zoe Kazan) y su esposa Sophie (Betty Gabriel), inician una búsqueda que va más allá del mundo personal, y llega a las autoridades, entre las cuales Roshan Amiri (Phoenix Raei) comanda el caso para llegar a una solución y rescatar a este hombre.

Is "technology" really so potentially negative?

I use the word technology because there are too many advances in communication and they don't just encompass the most popular social networks, but it takes a whole set of tools of all kinds to get to what this story presents, and they are all tools that we have at hand today.

This miniseries makes you wonder something like this. Well... can this really happen? And... yes, this and other issues such as for example the viralization of private content, account thefts and so many other things that have already been "normalized" in society, that is, they are already known concepts and actions.

Utilizo la palabra tecnología porque son demasiados los avances en materia de comunicación y no solamente abarcan a las redes sociales más conocidas, sino que se necesita de un conjunto de herramientas de todo tipo para llegar a lo que presenta esta historia, y todas son herramientas que hoy tenemos a mano.

Esta miniserie te lleva a preguntarte algo así. Pues… ¿de verdad esto puede pasar? Y… sí, esto y otras cuestiones como por ejemplo la viralización de contenido privado, los robos de cuentas y otras tantas cosas que ya se han “normalizado” en la sociedad, es decir, son conceptos y acciones ya conocidas.

But of course you can come up with something like what you see in the series. There are several stories that tell us about the possibility of creating fake profiles, and this is something that is also addressed in Clickbait, in fact, the whole problem arises because of that.

The point is that we often look at technological advances with eyes of kindness, because naturally we are born to see "the good" of change, but the truth is that just as historically there have been dreadful acts between people, in the most rudimentary ways possible, so today the most advanced technology can also bring us closer to criminals who are highly trained in the advances of the XXI century.

I don't think it is necessary to fall into paranoia, because it could be really exhausting to be thinking about this permanently, but still... as I have always thought, I don't think it is necessary to give too much information about my personal life.

Pero claro que se puede llegar a algo como lo que se ve en la serie. Hay varias historias que nos hablan de la posibilidad de crear perfiles falsos, y esto es algo que también se aborda en Clickbait, de hecho, todo el problema surge por eso.

El tema es que muchas veces miramos con ojos de bondad a los avances tecnológicos, porque naturalmente nos nace ver “lo bueno” del cambio, pero lo cierto es que así como históricamente han ocurrido actos espantosos entre las personas, de las maneras más rudimentarias posibles, pues hoy la tecnología más avanzada nos puede acercar también a criminales muy entrenados en los avances del siglo XXI.

Igualmente no creo que haya que caer en la paranoia, pues podría ser verdaderamente agotador estar pensando en esto de manera permanente, pero igual… como siempre he pensado, no me parece que sea necesario dar demasiados datos de la vida personal.

The role of each character

As in any production, the characters in Clickbait come to show us a clear personality that allows the viewer to move between their own ideas and preconceptions.

Pia is the most rebellious and apparently the black sheep of the family, while Nick is the golden son, the good, responsible, married, with children and attached to a totally traditional life.

The role of the authorities is also quite well thought out, because they show how there is a first interest in the case and an attempt to solve it, but they also expose how quickly, in the face of a theory that "closes", the case is closed.

I like a lot about each character that they give a very different first impression to what they really are, then the miniseries keeps you contradicting your own ideas and preconceptions about what could be happening.

El rol de cada personaje

Como en toda producción, los personajes de Clickbait vienen para mostrarnos una clara personalidad que permite que el espectador se mueva entre sus propias ideas y preconceptos.

Pía es la más rebelde y en apariencia la oveja negra de la familia, mientras Nick es el hijo dorado, el bueno, responsable, casado, con hijos y apegado a una vida totalmente tradicional.

El papel de las autoridades está bastante bien pensado también, porque muestran cómo hay un primer interés en el caso y un intento de solución, pero también exponen cómo rápidamente, ante una teoría que “cierra”, pues se da por finalizado el caso.

Me gusta mucho de cada personaje que dan una primera impresión muy diferente a lo que son en realidad, entonces la miniserie te mantiene contradiciendo a tus propias ideas y preconceptos sobre lo que podría estar ocurriendo.

Opinion

For me it is an excellent miniseries, in fact I watched it in three days. It is catching, it makes you reflect on current issues, it shows you the capacity of misinterpretation of facts, it shows you how the family itself can mistrust a member of the group, and above all, it exposes the power of technology, in this case in its misuse.

If I had to rate it, it would be ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5!

Para mi es una miniserie excelente, de hecho la vi en tres días. Es atrapante, te hace reflexionar sobre temas actuales, te muestra la capacidad de la malinterpretación de los hechos, te muestra cómo la propia familia puede desconfiar de un miembro del grupo, y sobre todo, expone el poder de la tecnología, en este caso en su mal uso.

Si tuviese que puntuarla, serían ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ de 5!

I have once again gone down the path of watching whatever Netflix recommends to me. I do this with any series and give it at least a couple of episodes' change to impress me. In the case of Clickbait I happily kept watching all of the episodes since they keep it interesting and just when you think you know what is going on, they change the perspective (which they do one episode at a time) and your suspicions and ideas about the overall story change. It's actually quite nicely done.

The story is basically a crime thriller and a whodunnit type of thing and I guarantee that 95% of watchers will not be able to figure out who the responsible parties actually are by the time it is finished. Each episode kind of tells the story from an individual character's point of view and the episodes are named accordingly such as "The Sister," "The Reporter," and "The Son."

The story is centered around the disappearance of Nick Brewer and his suddenly appearing online as someone who will be killed if the video of him gets 5 million views. It's a little far-fetched that the site doesn't get taken down especially considering the world we live in today where virtually anything gets censored but this won't be the last time that there are some major inconsistencies in the storyline so you are just going to have to let that go.

I'm going to go out of my way to not spoil anything about this because they actually do a very good job of keeping you guessing and you really don't have any idea who it could be. At multiple turns you THINK you know who it is only to have that notion proven incorrect normally in the same episode. You do feel like a bit of a dope for letting them bait you like that once they do but I promise you it will happen. Mostly it focuses on family, the sometimes insane nature of the media and most importantly how technology has taken control of our lives and not necessarily in a good way. In that regard this is like a an 8-episode long version of Black Mirror

This is another one of those series that is presented as a "Limited Series" yet it is 8, 45-minute episodes long. I don't know how long a series has to be in order for it to not be considered "limited" but I guess it is more than 8!

The acting is done very well by everyone involved, even the teenage actors which if I am normally ever going to dislike someone is the cast it is going to be the child actors. Even they do their job well even though for the most part they are used sparingly.

There are a ton of plot holes that if you want to enjoy this movie you are simply going to have to ignore them from a CSI perspective but overall, I would say that since I watched the entire thing over the course of 2 (or it might have been 3) days that it is a pretty good indicator that it is a series worth watching. Just like I said about Brand New Cherry Flavor, if you don't like it a lot by the end of 1 or 2 episodes, that's not going to change and you can give up.

Netflix of course incorporates their social agenda into this series quite a lot, but that is just the way Netflix is now so we have to put up with it.

Should I watch it?

I feel as though this is one of the better series available on Netflix right now and mostly because the casting is strong and the story, despite being far-fetched and a bit dare i say, dumb, at points certainly keeps you guessing. I think that a lot of people will be a bit disappointed by the ending, I know I was, but we'll leave that up to you to decide. If you like the first 2 episodes you are going to be entertained by the remaining ones.
