   Hola Hivers cinéfilos y amantes del entretenimiento, es un enorme placer siempre escribir para todos ustedes. En esta oportunidad quiero comentar sobre una película que vi hace algún tiempo pero que aun no le había otorgado un lugar en mis reseñas, es una película con una mezcla interesante de situaciones que creo que puede captar la atención sobre todo de espectadores que ven deportes, no solo futbol americano sino cualquier deporte en donde el cuerpo humano se lleve al limite, hoy quiero comentar sobre la película Concussion.

   Esta es una película estadounidense es estrenada en el año 2015, con una duración de poco mas de dos horas nos muestra un drama enmarcado en un deporte que es parte de la vida de la cultura norteamericana. Es una producción basada en hechos reales así que posiblemente es una película que tiene mucha más repercusión en Norteamérica, pero que a mi juicio puede ser tomada como referencia incluso para otros deportes.

   Sinopsis:

   El Doctor Bennet Omalu, es un hombre nacido en Nigeria con una extensa trayectoria en el campo de la medicina, su función como nauropatòlogo forense le hace examinar a un exjugador de futbol americano con un aparente daño cerebral pero que no posee un diagnostico, la búsqueda para resolver este misterio le hace enfrentarse a la poderosa corporación de futbol Americano lo que puede significar el fin de su carrera y de su estadía en Estados Unidos de America.

   Análisis de la Película

   Deporte

   Los que me conocen saben que me agrada los deportes y al ser un amante de las películas me agrada los dramas deportivos, así que esta película capta mi atención debido a que se desarrolla alrededor de un deporte de mucha popularidad y sobre todo con un respaldo económico impresionante, sin embargo, a diferencia de muchos dramas deportivos en donde en donde la historia es basada en el entrenador con su grupo de jugadores esta película se encamina hacia otro rumbo. Todo gira entorno a un medico forense persiguiendo un misterio en el deporte, aunque cambia un poco lo que conocemos como drama deportivo se agrega otro condimento que me agrada y que en lo particular hace que me llame aun mas esta película.

   Película Conspiratoria

   Quizás dentro de esta película no hay una secuencia de escenas conspiratorias muy marcadas, son muy leves en comparación a otras producciones de conspiración, sin embargo, se siente la tensión que arropa al doctor Omalu por ser una especie de piedra en el zapato para la NFL con su hallazgo científico causado por jugar futbol americano.

   Es una película que mezcla de buena manera un drama centrada en un aspecto medico que ocurre dentro del futbol americano, con un condimento conspiratorio que sin dudas le hace ser mas apetecible para el espectador, un plato fuerte acompañado del postre llamado “basado en hechos reales”.

   Me agrada ver como se va desenvolviendo la historia al pasar los minutos, posee un buen ritmo con el cual vamos observando y conociendo las consecuencias de las acciones de Omalu y como la fuerza de todo un gigante corporativo va socavando su tranquilidad emocional, tan solo por querer decir la verdad.

   Aunque la película no lo muestra, solo a través de ciertos parpadeos también queda la impresión de que se introduce un poco de racismo, ya que es un hecho real creo que este asunto pudo tornarse muy complicado para este medico forense, incluso en una de las escenas argumenta que la NFL no puede permitirse que un africano afecte o desacredite el principal deporte para Estados Unidos, por supuesto un tema bastante delicado y que la película solo muestra mediante algunas pinceladas pero que seguramente en la vida real pudo significar una mayor agresión.

   Actuación

   Evidentemente el gancho publicitario para esta película es colocar en el poster a Will Smith. Este actor siempre atrae una gran cantidad de espectadores y sus películas normalmente poseen cierto nivel de calidad, por lo cual siempre que observamos un poster con Will Smith pensamos que esta película debe ser buena, así ocurre con Concussion aunque no sea la mejor película al menos cumple con las expectativas en mi opinión.

   Will Smith se adapta muy buen en el personaje, es un buen actor de drama e interpreta a un hombre sin muchas expresiones pero que trata de hacer lo correcto, si bien no es su mejor actuación le vale para ser nominado como mejor actor de drama en los Globos de Oro y en Satellite Awards.

   Otro de esos famosos actores que observamos en esta película es Alec Balwin, aunque su papel no es muy significativo le otorga buena presencia a su personaje y con una buena química junto al protagonista. Creo que en cuanto a actuación en líneas generales la película cumple, por supuesto teniendo esta calidad en el reparto era algo de esperarse.

   Opinión Personal

   Es una buena película dramática, si se es fan del deporte puede captar la atención muy fácilmente, es una producción bien ejecutada y que nos regala una historia interesante basada en hechos reales. Una película sencilla y fácil de digerir pero que cumple con las expectativas.

   Si, es una buena película de drama con un toque conspiratorio que seguramente a gran parte del publico en general le puede parecer atractivo, coloca al espectador a pensar y reflexionar sobre diversos temas, al menos eso ocurrió en mi, la recomiendo.

   Reflexión Sobre La Película

   No quería terminar este post sin antes opinar sobre este controversial tema, el deporte nos regala alegrías y muchas emociones, es parte de nuestra cultura y hablo del deporte en general, sin embargo, existen deportes cuyo riesgo a traumatismos, lesiones o complicaciones medicas es mucho mayor, quizás el futbol americano no es el único ejemplo pero es el que se muestra en esta película.

   Al recordar esta película no pude evitar pensar en un juego de futbol soccer en la anterior Eurocopa, donde un famoso jugador de Dinamarca sufre un infarto y que muere por minutos en el campo de juego, este es mi deporte preferido y se de muchos casos en que a diferencia de este jugador las complicaciones medicas han llevado a varios jugadores a la tumba, por lo cual no es un tema a ignorar sino para reflexionar sobre los protocolos médicos para los jugadores que están entregando literalmente la vida para entretenernos cada fin de semana.

   No es eliminar el deporte, sino mejorar esos protocolos médicos y realizar mas estudios para que ningún deportista tenga que morir a causa de su trabajo, además, informar de los riesgos latente a esos deportistas. Creo que ocultar información para no tener efecto en los ingresos es un error que se paga con la muerte o daños significativos para los deportistas, en lo particular me parece un delito muy grave.

   Aunque soy ajeno al futbol americano me apasiona el futbol soccer, por lo cual entiendo de alguna manera ese enfrentamiento entre grandes corporaciones en contra de un medico que descubre un trastorno oculto en los atletas de mi deporte favorito, por lo cual veo esta película de diferentes enfoques.

   Sport

   Those who know me know that I like sports and being a movie lover I like sports dramas, so this film captures my attention because it is developed around a sport of great popularity and above all with an impressive economic support, however, unlike many sports dramas where the story is based on the coach with his group of players this film is headed in another direction. Everything revolves around a forensic doctor pursuing a mystery in the sport, although it changes a little what we know as a sports drama adds another spice that I like and that in particular makes me call me even more this film.

   Conspiracy Movie

   Perhaps within this film there is not a sequence of conspiracy scenes very marked, they are very slight in comparison to other conspiracy productions, however, you can feel the tension that surrounds Dr. Omalu for being a kind of stone in the shoe for the NFL with his scientific finding caused by playing soccer.

   I like to see how the story unfolds as the minutes go by, it has a good pace with which we observe and know the consequences of the actions of Omalu and how the strength of a corporate giant is undermining his emotional tranquility, just for wanting to tell the truth.

   Although the film does not show it, only through certain flickers also leaves the impression that a little racism is introduced, since it is a real fact I think this issue could become very complicated for this forensic doctor, even in one of the scenes argues that the NFL can not afford an African affect or discredit the main sport for America, of course a rather sensitive issue and that the film only shows through some brushstrokes but surely in real life could have meant a greater aggression.

   Obviously the advertising hook for this movie is to put Will Smith on the poster. This actor always attracts a lot of viewers and his movies usually have a certain level of quality, so whenever we see a poster with Will Smith we think that this movie must be good, so it happens with Concussion although it is not the best movie at least meets the expectations in my opinion.

   Will Smith fits very well in the character, he is a good drama actor and plays a man without many expressions but he tries to do the right thing, although it is not his best performance it is worth him to be nominated for best drama actor at the Golden Globes and Satellite Awards.

   Another of those famous actors that we observe in this film is Alec Balwin, although his role is not very significant he gives good presence to his character and with a good chemistry next to the protagonist. I think that in terms of acting in general terms the film complies, of course having this quality in the cast was something to be expected.

   Personal Opinion.

   It is a good dramatic film, if you are a fan of the sport it can capture your attention very easily, it is a well executed production and that gives us an interesting story based on real events. A simple and easy to digest movie but it lives up to expectations.

   Yes, it is a good drama film with a conspiratorial touch that surely a large part of the general public may find attractive, it makes the viewer think and reflect on various issues, at least that happened in me, I recommend it.

   Reflection On The Movie

   I did not want to end this post without first commenting on this controversial topic, sport gives us joy and many emotions, it is part of our culture and I speak of sport in general, however, there are sports whose risk of trauma, injury or medical complications is much higher, perhaps soccer is not the only example but it is the one shown in this film.

   Remembering this movie I could not help but think of a soccer game in the previous European Championship, where a famous player from Denmark suffers a heart attack and dies within minutes on the field, this is my favorite sport and I know of many cases where unlike this player medical complications have led several players to the grave, so it is not a topic to ignore but to reflect on the medical protocols for players who are literally giving up their lives to entertain us every weekend.

   It is not to eliminate the sport, but to improve those medical protocols and to carry out more studies so that no athlete has to die because of their work, and also to inform those athletes of the latent risks. I think that hiding information to have no effect on income is a mistake that is paid with death or significant damage to athletes, in particular it seems to me a very serious crime.

   It is a movie about something that is probably important regarding the fact that NFL players in USA are subjected to basically a car-crash scenario that completely mucks up their brains - and the people involved in exposing this are real (big win!)

   Will Smith pulls of a convincing Nigerian accent as he plays the role of Dr. Bennet Omalu, who is a real person that first revealed what we now know as obvious information; the fact that pro sport people can not be hit in the head at full speed by another giant person over and over again without long-lasting repercussions.

   The film is good, in that it deals with something that actually happened and involves the real names of at least some of the people that are involved. Dr. Bennet Omalu is an immigrant who stumbles upon the fact that recurring head injuries to NFL football players actually has a lasting effect on them in their lives and well, the NFL doesn't want this to be public knowledge.

   The movie is kept moving as best they can by the things that one would expect to encounter when trying to take on the most popular sport in the United States in what appears to be (at least at first) an attempt to shut down the entire operation. Considering the absolutely massive amounts of money involved in professional sports in general, this is easy to understand. If you are an NFL fan (and I am) you have probably noticed a bunch of new rules that have been introduced as far as contact with the head is concerned - This film tells you why that is happening.

   The movie might be interesting to a certain demographic but mostly I don't feel as though there was enough actual material (real or made up ) to make an entire film here. I was bored for a lot of it and as it turns out a great deal of the "fun" stuff in the film is actually just entertainment fiction that was made up so that they could have a whole film here. The underlying message is real, but many of the names were changed presumably to avoid massive lawsuits which the film kinda hints at while it is going on.

   Overall, I think this movie might be interesting to an American audience, but not so much for the rest of the world. This is reflected in the probably-not-breaking-even-after-expenses box office count.

   On a scale of "Urgh!" to "Wowsers!" I give "Concussion" an overall rating of....
