He estado un poco (bastante) ausente debido a cosas que seguramente les contaré en un futuro post, pero hoy luego de algunas semanas por fin les traigo un post bastante genial en el cual les hablare sobre una película que vi, Creep. Esta película la vi hace unas semanas con mi novio y realmente me gustó para mi sorpresa, ya que esa misma noche vimos otra película de terror que la verdad no me gustó. Cuando la terminé de ver pensé rápidamente que quería hacerle un post así que hoy les hablaré al respecto sin spoilers, comencemos!
Hello again! I've been a little (quite) absent due to things that I will surely tell you in a future post, but today after a few weeks I finally come back with a pretty cool post in which I will tell you about a movie I saw, Creep. I saw this movie a few weeks ago with my boyfriend and I really liked it to my surprise, since that same night we saw another horror movie that I really didn't like. When I finished watching it I quickly thought I wanted to do a post about it so today I will talk about it without spoilers, let's go!
Creep es una película estadounidense de terror psicológico dirigida por Patrick Brice, estrenada en 2014. Esta película tiene un elenco de dos personas las cuales son el mismo director y Mark Duplass el cual también escribió el guión para esta película. La historia está inspirada en anécdotas con la página web para buscar empleo llamada Craigslist, y a su vez tomó inspiración de películas como Misery, Fatal Attraction y My Dinner with Andre. Con un presupuesto bastante bajo y una historia que parece simple al principio, Brice y Duplass lograron hacer una película que ganó en su mayoría criticas positivas y una buena acogida. Su éxito fue tal, que lograron hacer una secuela llamada "Creep 2". Actualmente está disponible en la plataforma de streaming Netflix.
Creep is an American psychological horror film directed by Patrick Brice, released in 2014. This film has a cast of two people which are the director himself and Mark Duplass who also wrote the screenplay for this film. The story is inspired by anecdotes with the job search website Craigslist, and in turn took inspiration from films such as Misery, Fatal Attraction and My Dinner with Andre. With a fairly low budget and a story that seems simple at first, Brice and Duplass managed to make a film that earned mostly positive reviews and a good reception. Its success was such that they managed to make a sequel called "Creep 2". It is currently available on the streaming platform Netflix.
La trama comienza presentando a Aaron, un joven que acepta un trabajo que con un hombre que no conoce en una cabaña alejada de la ciudad. Al principio la persona que contrató a Aaron no parece estar allí, pero llega sorpresivamente. El hombre en cuestión se llama Josef y le explica a Aaron que le gustaría que lo grabara haciendo un "video-diario" debido a un tumor cerebral tan grave que no tiene cura y le queda poco tiempo de vida, por lo que no estará presente cuando su esposa Angela dé a luz a su bebé. El objetivo de esos videos es mostrárselos a su futuro hijo cuando nazca ya que él no estará y para cuidarlo, para esto ofrece una muy buena cantidad de dinero. Aaron acepta el trabajo pero comienza a notar cosas extrañas que lo hacen sentir incómodo, al principio parecen nimiedades pero a medida que avanza la película todo se pone más macabro entorno a nuestros dos protagonistas y únicos personajes, sobre todo para Aaron, ya que no se espera nada de lo que va a suceder.
The plot begins by introducing Aaron, a young man who accepts a job with a man he doesn't know in a cabin far from the city. At first the person who hired Aaron doesn't seem to be there, but he arrives surprisingly. The man in question is named Josef and explains to Aaron that he would like him to record him making a "video diary" due to a brain tumor so severe that there is no cure and he has little time left to live, so he won't be around when his wife Angela delivers their baby. The purpose of these videos is to show them to his future son when he is born since he will not be there and to take care of him, for this he offers a very good amount of money. Aaron accepts the job but begins to notice strange things that make him feel uncomfortable, at first they seem trifles but as the film progresses everything gets more macabre around our two protagonists and unique characters, especially for Aaron, since he does not expect anything of what is going to happen.
Como dije al principio, esta película solo tiene a dos personajes presentes, uno es Aaron (Patrick Brice) es cual es un joven con problemas de dinero que acepta un trabajo que, aunque no es de su gusto, no le molesta hacerlo. A su vez está Josef (Mark Duplass), un hombre que contrata a Aaron para que lo grabe en sus últimos días de vida, sin embargo, va adquiriendo comportamientos muy extraños que hacen que Aaron considere si tomó la decisión correcta de aceptar el trabajo. Debo decir que las actuaciones de ambos me parecieron muy buenas, se observa muy bien la colaboración de Brice y Duplass en la producción de este filme de un estilo muy particular. La química de ambos actores hace que aunque ocurran cosas extrañas, se sienta todo de manera natural, las charlas, reacciones y acciones en general de los personajes parecen genuinas, lo cual nos hace sentirnos (in)cómodos al ver a los protagonistas.
As I said at the beginning, this film has only two characters present, one is Aaron (Patrick Brice) who is a young man with money problems who accepts a job that, although it is not to his liking, he does not mind doing it. In turn there is Josef (Mark Duplass), a man who hires Aaron to record him in his last days of life, however, he is acquiring very strange behaviors that make Aaron consider if he made the right decision to accept the job. I must say that the performances of both actors were very good, the collaboration of Brice and Duplass in the production of this film of a very particular style is very well observed. The chemistry of both actors makes that although strange things happen, everything feels natural, the talks, reactions and actions in general of the characters seem genuine, which makes us feel (un)comfortable watching the protagonists.
El estilo de esta película es el de "metraje encontrado", es decir, es una historia que parece un diario grabado por una cámara digital manejada por uno de los personajes. No tiene una banda sonora, efectos de sonido ni efectos especiales, son simplemente dos personas interactuando mientras son grabados por una cámara digital. El hecho de parecer algo natural, cotidiano y simple le agrega un toque de realidad al asunto, las situaciones incomodas (lo cual es... todo) se siente verdaderamente perturbador. No se necesita una enorme producción para hacerte sentir algo, a veces solo la simplicidad de las cosas hacen que conectes mas y eso es lo que hace sentir la ambientación de esta película.
The style of this film is "found footage", that is, it is a story that looks like a diary recorded by a digital camera operated by one of the characters. It has no soundtrack, sound effects or special effects, it is simply two people interacting while being recorded by a digital camera. The fact that it seems natural, everyday and simple adds a touch of reality to the whole thing, the uncomfortable situations (which is... everything) feels truly disturbing. It doesn't take a huge production to make you feel something, sometimes just the simplicity of things makes you connect more and that's what the setting of this film makes you feel.
Esta película me parece buena en su género, aunque objetivamente no la considero como una gran obra maestra, definitivamente cumple su cometido de asustar, o mejor dicho, dejarte con una sensación extraña de incomodidad, algo que es difícil de explicar. Me gusta mucho lo orgánica que se siente la relación de ambos personajes, que va poco a poco convirtiéndose en algo tétrico. El personaje de Josef me parece muy bueno, ya que juega con hacernos esperar un final obvio, sin embargo, la verdad es que uno no se espera lo que va a ocurrir, y eso aumenta nuestra sensación de inquietud. El estilo de metraje encontrado ha sido muy utilizado en el género de terror, personalmente hay demasiadas películas de este estilo que considero que no llegan a sorprender mucho, de hecho me logran a aburrir al ser tan repetitivas y predecibles, pero esta película tiene la peculiaridad de hacerte sentir muy perturbado, a la vez sintiendo la naturalidad con la que se relacionan los personajes, viendo el miedo, inseguridades, extrañezas y circunstancias que viven. Realmente la recomiendo si quieren pasar un buen rato de incomodidad o miedo.
I think this film is good in its genre, although objectively I don't consider it a great masterpiece, it definitely does its job of scaring, or rather, leaving you with a strange feeling of discomfort, something that is difficult to explain. I really like how organic the relationship of the two characters feels, which gradually turns into something creepy. The character of Josef seems very good to me, as he plays with making us expect an obvious ending, however, the truth is that one does not expect what is going to happen, and that increases our sense of unease. The found footage style has been widely used in the horror genre, personally there are too many films of this style that I consider that do not get to surprise much, in fact I manage to get bored to be so repetitive and predictable, but this film has the peculiarity of making you feel very disturbed, while feeling the naturalness with which the characters relate, seeing the fear, insecurities, strangeness and circumstances they live. I really recommend it if you want to have a good time of discomfort or fear.

Las películas de este estilo no suelen gustarme mucho ya que las siento sumamente predecibles, pero esta aunque tenga uno que otro cliché y no me parezca la mejor película de terror del mundo, me pareció única en su estilo dejándome incómoda, por lo que la recomiendo si les interesa ver una película de tipo "metraje encontrado". Me gustaría saber si ya conocían esta película y si no es así, saber si les llamó la atención luego de ver esta reseña!

I hope you liked this post! I really liked this movie, it's very difficult that a horror movie lately makes me feel disturbed and this is one of them. I don't usually like movies of this style because I feel them extremely predictable, but this one even though it has one or another cliché and I don't think it's the best horror movie in the world, I found it unique in its style leaving me uncomfortable, so I recommend it if you are interested in watching a "found footage" type of movie.
