  1. Dead To Me | A very nostalgic final season [En/Es]@gorayii1313d

    Source

A little over a year ago I shared with you the review of a series that captivated me from the very first episode, I'm talking about Dead to Me. At that time the review was focused on the first two seasons, and since then I was longing for the third and last season of this great comedy.

Although the third season that would put an end to the story of friendship between Jen and Judy was already confirmed, I had my doubts, because in mid 2021 Christina Applegate, one of the protagonists of the series, announced on her twitter account that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a neurodegenerative disease that can cause disability. This made me assume that we might not have a final season of the series. What I did not know was the professionalism, willpower and courage of this woman, who despite her diagnosis, decided to close with a flourish her passage through the movie and TV screens.

Assuming that Applegate's illness would be the end of Dead to Me, I lost track of the series, so I had no idea that it was scheduled to premiere on Netflix on November 17. Literally, it took me by surprise and excitement to enter the application and see there on the front page the announcement with new premiere chapters.

Ok, starting from the point where we had left off in the previous review, in which Jen and Judy are accomplices of a damning secret that keeps them in check, in this new season they continue to be pursued by the fortuitous events that point them out. Both hide a secret that can be revealed at any time considering the loose ends and the interest of third parties to complete the investigation to discover the whole truth.

While the ghosts of the past reappear to disturb the peace of their lives, fate has prepared for them moments of greater emotional impact, internal struggles that test the true meaning of friendship. While Jen receives unexpected news that could translate into happiness despite her age, Judy receives news that challenges her own faith. From these revelations the story takes another turn.

Unlike previous seasons in which the story focused on discovering what had happened in each of the events that led them to be victims, victimizers and accomplices, this season has been much more emotional and sentimental, focused on the human condition per se, it is no longer about isolated events of suspense, it is about their own lives.

I particularly believe that this melancholic atmosphere in the middle of a comedy has a lot to do not only with Jen and Judy's farewell in the series, but also with Christina Applegate's farewell to the screen due to her illness. Her physical changes are already evident, both in her appearance and in her mobility, and that is noticeable in the series; however, the sacrifice she has made to achieve a first-rate performance, as she has done throughout her artistic career, is worthy of admiration and respect.

What was once synonymous with fun in the midst of a comedy of black humor, now translates into the nostalgia of the endings, I would like to say a lot about it, but the risk of spoilers is high. Finally, the truth always seeks ways to come to light, sometimes because the circumstances propitiate it, and sometimes because conscience demands it. I think it was a great ending, one that could even have given rise to possible sequels, although that is already ruled out.

Emotionally this last season belongs to Christina Applegate, she is the star, I love her. Now, that does not detract from the wonderful performance of Linda Cardellini, the chemistry between the two was maintained from beginning to end throughout the series, a contagious complicity that honors friendship, not in vain earned them Emmy nominations for best actress.

To tell you that I loved this series would be too much, I already said it in my first post, and I reiterate it, it is a great series, which I would not hesitate for a second to recommend, although I am sure that it is not for all audiences, because not everyone appreciates or enjoys the humor that hides the chaos behind a black comedy.

  2. CineTV Contest: Dead To Me Is Underrated!@wolfofnostreet1504d

Dead To Me is one of the suggestions that popped up right after I saw this series on Netflix. I don't know what exactly I expected but I never expected all of the quirkiness and dark humor on this show. I also didn't know about it or heard anyone talk about it before. Even while watching and sharing some bits of it on my social media, I never got a response. Apparently, it isn't quite popular with my crowd.

It is a 2019 dark humor comedy series with two seasons already and a third and final season in the works. It stars Christina Applegate as Jen Harding, Linda Cardellini as Judy Hale, and James Marsden as Ben Wood/Steve Wood. I'll now give you a quick rundown of this underrated show and why I think it's amazing.

    image.png Image source

Jen Harding lost her husband in a hit-and-run accident and she was devasted to the extent that she had to join a support group for widows and widowers. There, she meets Judy Hale who claims to have lost her partner also.

It turns out Judy's partner didn't really die as she insinuated. In actuality, he broke up with Judy and according to her, the loss, coupled with the miscarriages she had in the past was worth grieving for. These two women are very different, Jen grieves in anger and lashes out while Judy is a bundle of positivity.

The unlikely duo becomes close friends and Judy moves in with Jen and her kids when she reveals she had no place to stay since her breakup. Several secrets are revealed as these two get to know each other and the biggest one is that Judy is the hit-and-run driver.

The funniest part of it all is Judy helping Jen to find her husband's killer with so much passion and at the same time feeling deep guilt for being the reason for Jen's pain. She tries to confess to Jen but is always too chicken to do so and she does everything in her capacity to make Jen happy in order to rid herself of the guilt.

    image.png Image source

Both characters are hilarious and the dark humor can't be missed in every episode. The jokes and conversations had a Will Ferrell vibe to them, so it was no surprise to find out that he is one of the executive producers on the show.

I loved how the two main characters are opposites of each other in terms of how they handle situations but they still make a great team. Judy especially is my favourite because she is quirky and funny. She always wants to be sure everyone is at peace with her and she finishes all her sentences with sorry.

I have never met anyone as apologetic as Judy and it is always funny to see her do questionable things in the heat of the moment. She's always involved in every mess because she puts herself in it but somehow, she comes out of it together with Jen. She is usually the voice of reason, and at the same time, the sporadic one. How can you not love a conflicted queen?

Jen on the other hand is such a meanie and she's got the darkest jokes. It's so easy to empathize with her for the situation she's in and excuse her mean nature but she can also be sweet. She's not sporadic like Judy but at a point, it seems like Judy rubbed off on her.

I think my favourite thing about the show is how these women who ordinarily wouldn't have been friends came to love and depend on each other. They both tried to understand themselves and they built a genuine friendship in the midst of so much chaos.

There are so many surprises on Dead To Me, one moment, you think the biggest problem is Judy being the killer of Jen's husband, and then you find out there's more and it all keeps unraveling. Jen and Judy keep acting on impulse and the storyline keeps getting messier.

I could go on and on about it but I don't want to spoil it for you more than I already have. You should watch how these two go on a chase for the hit-and-run driver and enjoy all the drama in between.

I think it's a popular show in other regions but it's not so rated where I'm at because not many are into dark humor and they would find it boring because the jokes don't sit right with them. It's a great show anyway and I would recommend again and again for the stellar acting and the dark humor.

Have you seen Dead To Me? Do you think it's underrated or overrated?

This is my entry for CineTV's contest for the week for 'My Favourite Underrated TV Series'. Do check it out!

    Thanks for reading!

  3. Dead To Me | My impressions and review of the series@gorayii1754d

    Source

I have a hard time reviewing a series because I feel a giant fear of saying something that might spoil the viewer's experience, especially when I've already watched beyond the first season and have a lot to tell, but hey, I'll do my best to stay within the allowed line.

A couple of months ago I started watching a series that captivated me in such a way that I started by watching the first chapter to see what it was like, and in two consecutive days I ended up watching the two complete seasons, besides being eager for the third season to be released very soon. This series is called Dead to Me, and before I say anything else, I confirm that I was fascinated.

The first thing I should tell you is that this is a comedy series, but not the classic kind of comedy where you die laughing, but the kind of black humor where tragedy and satire converge, which can sometimes be a bit sensitive, controversial, and unappreciated by some people. That said, I'll tell you a little bit about Dead to Me and why I liked it so much.

The story revolves around Jen and Judy, a pair of women who meet by chance in an encounter in which they are both trying to overcome the loss of a loved one in their lives.

Jen has just lost her husband who was hit by a hit-and-run driver, leaving her alone with her children. Judy, on the other hand, is grieving the loss of her fiancé. These circumstances lead them to show solidarity with each other, and a friendship is born that empowers them.

    Source

In the midst of the pain, Jen does not rest in the search for the perpetrator of her husband's death, with few clues to her possession, she carries out her own investigation to force the authorities to find the whereabouts of the person responsible for the misfortune. Judy joins this search, supportive and willing, even though she carries her own problems and a secret that disturbs her day by day; even so, she puts her friend's peace first, and for that, she asks for the help of her new friend who is a private investigator.

    Source

Judy's life is also upside down, she silently endures her own miseries, a situation that moves Jen, to the point that she invites her to live in her own house, because while Judy lives on the kindness of others, Jen has a wealthier economic position that allows her to help her. Evidently, they belong to different worlds, but circumstances unite them, the same circumstances that lead them to be great friends, those capable of sacrificing everything, of understanding everything, and of forgiving everything if necessary.

    Source

Judy's truth disrupts Jen's reality, but in a turn of events, the macabre game of destiny makes them feel in their own flesh what the other might have experienced at the time, this undoubtedly cracks the foundations of their friendship, but in the long run, they create bonds that go beyond solidarity, the need to overcome their truths makes them accomplices of a secret that unites them more and more.

    Source

Jen and Judy are united by that which also separates them, disturbed by that which also gives them peace, united by pain, but also by joys; it is an incredible relationship that is born between these two women, in which each one sincerely bets on the self-realization of the other, in which, in spite of the sorrows, friendship seems to remain unscathed, capable of overcoming everything and everyone.

I loved the chemistry between these characters, who are also masterfully starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, with a super special (and decisive) participation of the handsome James Marsden. This is a series that to enjoy it you have to get rid of so much hypocritical morality because while there would be much to judge in certain situations there is also much to be sympathetic to their actions at certain times.

Jen begins this story obviously suffering from the death of her husband, feeling guilty for what may or may not have triggered the tragedy, but along the way she discovers truths that make her doubt whether self-flagellation is worth it. The same happens with Jeny, she suffers in anticipation of mourning that later becomes inevitable, in that process she discovers herself allowing new emotions in her life to which she was previously oblivious.

I loved that despite everything they go through, what they suffer and suffer, there is a point where they allow themselves a second chance to rebuild their lives, together they decide to face their miseries and enjoy the sweetness of sweet revenge, small compensation for the bad times. I really loved it.

I insist, telling more about this series would make me run the risk of saying something that could be considered a spoiler, and this series does not deserve such a mistake, on the contrary, it deserves to be seen, appreciated and enjoyed; of course, I am aware that this recommendation is limited to a certain audience, but I know that this audience will love it; meanwhile, I will anxiously await the third season, which has already been announced to be the last of Dead to Me.

  4. Dead to Me Season 2@netflixr2235d

The original series aired last year and it was one of the few series that I have ever truly binge watched. I think i finished all 10 episodes in one day, which is something that I can never do with television because I easily get distracted. Dead to Me was so entertaining and had just the right mix of drama with a bit of comedy mixed in to keep me hooked.

    Season 2 is no different.

    Mild Spoilers inside

**Seriously, if you haven't seen season 1 to watchit, you wont regret it, the spoilers in here will ruin a big part of season 1's twists!**

    1588980359_DeadtoMeSeason2–ExpectedReleaseDateand.jpg

In season 1 we were introduced to Jen (Christina Applegate), a woman whose husband had recently been killed in a hit and run and how she was dealing with this loss. She meets an eccentric woman at grief counseling named Judy (Linda Cardellini), who seems very intent on getting to know Jen. This is because Judy has a very dark secret that is slowly revealed to us in that she knows a lot about how it was that Jen's husband was killed because she was involved in it.

    1_bNitDCNCJEZbEnaWDfakUQ.jpeg src

They end up becoming great friends as Judy is just the right kind of person that Jen needs in her life right now and Jen actually had Judy move in. Slowly Judy's guilt eats her up inside and eventually she has to tell Jen the truth about how she was actually driving the car that killed her husband and she hid the car and all the evidence to the crime.

Somehow, through the various twists that the first season has, Judy manages to not get caught by the police even after Jen has been told this information. It seems like every time they get a little bit closer to "catching Judy" she gets away and even once Jen has been told that Judy is actually the reason why the husband is dead, Jen still can't put the friendship away. I'm not doing it justice describing it but it really is an amazing story.

    maxresdefault.jpg

The tables have turned a bit in season 2 as Jen now is a bit "even" with Judy when Judy is made aware that her abusive ex-boyfriend is now floating in Jen's pool. Now things have shifted a bit as they have to keep Jen from going to jail.

While I didn't watch the entire series in one sitting, it was close to that. It might have been 3 sittings this time. Applegate is really a fantastic dramatic actress and Cardellini is just wonderful; she is so good that I am going to go and try to find some other things that she has been in.

    Should I watch it?

Yes, absolutely. This is one of the best shows on TV right now.

  5. Dead to Me (Netflix series): Follow up- incredible series@gooddream2604d

I get bored with Netflix series extremely easy. It is actually very rare that I watch an entire season of anything these days and this has a lot to do with the fact that we have so much choice in today's "on demand" services like Netflix. If it isn't stellar, I move on. Dead to Me was captivating from start to finish and I am really looking forward to the next season.

    [source](https://television-b26f.kxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/netflixlogo00-770x470.jpg)

This is a relatively new series and I likely would have watched it anyway because of Christina Applegate being in it. I have become so used to seeing her in full-on comedies that this is a bit of a new avenue for her. While I could be wrong about this, I also don't have much recollection of her being the star of very many things as she tends to be featured in a supporting role type way. Although I think her co-star steals the show, Applegate is phenomenal in this series as well.

    [source](https://media1.popsugar-assets.com/files/thumbor/RUUbxn9q_o3PzFhchQY7v7TWhjA/fit-in/2048xorig/filters:format_auto-!!-:strip_icc-!!-/2019/04/01/632/n/1922283/1df778c85ca21bcd804fd0.21026992_/i/What-Netflix-Dead-Me-TV-Show-About.jpg)

Without spoiling I'll just say that the series is about Jen Harding (Applegate,) a woman whose husband recently died in a hit-and-run that has not been solved by the police - they don't have any clues that can lead to it ever being solved. One day at a grief counseling group Jen hits it off with Judy Hale (played by the absolutely incredible Linda Cardellini) who is an eccentric and extremely kind woman who has a bit of a dark past that is, unbeknownst to Jen Harding, intrinsically tied to her own life.

    [source](https://occ-0-990-987.1.nflxso.net/art/ebb5e/44bfc7bf8a51e3fd7a917912ee63067e803ebb5e.jpg)

The two of them develop a powerful friendship very quickly and Judy ends up moving into Jen's house in order to help one another cope with their recent losses. They find that they are actually perfect for one another (not in a romantic way, don't get excited) and Judy just seems to "complete" Jen in many ways and this is reciprocal.

So far the way that I am describing this sounds like a "Live Love Laugh" type film but I can assure you that it is not like that at all. I am being very careful to not spoil what is going on here because I honestly believe this is the best series I have seen in a long time. I watched every episode carefully and honestly wouldn't mind watching them again.... the show is that damn good.

The trailer, just like my words, don't even touch base on what makes this show so amazing. I'm not gonna spoil it and I wont need to. Dead to me is not one of those series that you have to watch 3 episodes of before it becomes interesting: It hooks you in the first 5 minutes and the pace never slows down. There is honestly not a single episode of filler here at all and you stay entertained all the way through. The preview presents the show as a comedy and it does have comedic moments but for the most part it is a drama and an extremely good one at that. I can't wait for season 2 and it is extremely rare for me to actually say that.

On a scale of "Urgh!" to "Wowsers" I give Dead to Me a heartfelt overall score of.....

  6. Dead to Me (Netflix Series) - the best series I have watched in a while@gooddream2611d

I am sticking with my program of watching anything that Netflix suggests for me. I realize that this might be rewarding a perhaps incorrect algorithm but whatever. Lately, "Dead to Me" was suggested and I saw that Christina Applegate (who I have liked since she played the hot, dumb daughter on "Married with Children") was in it, so I figured i would give it a go and have not been disappointed.

    [source](https://cdn.cinematerial.com/p/500x/tgjovvfl/dead-to-me-movie-poster.jpg)

I'm going to try to keep this spoiler-free so I will only discuss things that are evident in the first few minutes of watching the show and likely the trailer.

    Dead-To-Me-Season-1-Netflix.jpg source

Jen Harding (Applegate) is a widow whose husband was killed in a gruesome hit-and-run and she is struggling to deal with her grief and carry on with her life. She does a good job of keeping it together but has her moments where she "blows up" on people. During a grief counseling session she meets and eccentric woman named Judy Hale (Linda Cardellini ) who is at the sessions because her fiance recently passed away also. They immediately take to one another and start spending time together.

    [source](https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Dead-To-Me-Season-1-Netflix-Set-Photos-Linda-Cardelinni.jpg)

Things become more complicated when Jen and Linda start to discover that their lives are overlapped in ways that neither one of them expected and in some of the cases some terrible secrets are revealed that only we, the audience can see. I am intentionally not revealing any of these but they add SO MUCH to the story.

The story is inventive, and the acting is wonderful. This is especially true on the part of Linda Cardellini, whom I had never heard of before but seeing Applegate in a primarily non-comedic role is pretty cool as well. The fact that Jen Harding (Applegate) is a fan of my favorite type of music and it is frequently featured in this series is just an added bonus.

I give up on a lot of series. I am particularly critical of Netflix on this front because I feel as though most of their series are drawn out much longer than they need to be. However, this is the first series since I have started subscribing to Netflix earlier this year that I actually stayed up much later than I should simply because I simply had to see the next episode.

Give it a look, I don't think you will be disappointed, especially if you like death metal.
