Dororo: A Story of Struggles and Victories / Dororo: una historia de luchas y ganancias@mamaemigrante38d
This anime is one of those that delivers a powerful message; it has few episodes, but each one is packed with meaning. In fact, at home, my children took the opposite view to mine – perhaps because of their youth, or rather because they were swayed by the thinking of almost all the antagonistic characters.
Based on Osamu Tezuka’s manga published in 1967, this 24-episode anime is perfect for an afternoon binge-watch, although I personally think it’s more effective to watch it at a leisurely pace, as each episode contains a powerful lesson that might be lost if we view it merely as a form of entertainment.
In Dororo, we encounter two stories that converge on a path towards a truth—perhaps a painful one—but since it is the truth, it is better to know it in all its nuances. Set against a backdrop of conquests and battles for territory and power, the samurai seek to defend the powerful at the expense of ordinary people, who end up suffering from famine, cold and abuses—not only from nature, but also from those who wield force and weapons.
The story begins with the birth of a deformed child, without arms or legs, whom the father decides to abandon to his fate, as he has already fulfilled his duty; for all this was the result of a sacrifice he made in the name of his kingdom. Daigo Kagemitsu had made a pact with the demons so that his land might prosper.
The baby was taken to a meadow, but the woman carrying him saw a raft and decided to leave him on it, so that the river would carry him away and he would eventually die; but it was at that moment that the life of Hyakkimaru, the protagonist of the main story, began.
Dororo, for his part, is a boy orphaned by war and famine, who has resorted to swindling and stealing just to survive. The beauty of this character is that, despite everything he has been through, he has not lost his sense of joy; and when he meets Hyakkimaru, he provides a stark contrast to the bleak world of the man who wanders the land, trying to understand what happened to him.
Fitted with prosthetic face, arms and legs, Hyakkimaru was trained by the man who found him so that he could defend himself on his journey of self-discovery, during which, after encountering and defeating demons, he gradually recovered the parts of his body that had been taken from him at birth.
Many adventures befall this pair of characters: one driven by the need to reclaim himself and experience life to the full, and the other by a desire for companionship and support, although initially he saw it as a business venture to rid the villages of the spectres and demons that plagued them. They ended up forming a blended family in which the child is the one who ‘educates’ the teenager, growing up together on a journey to understand the life they have been dealt.
The dichotomy between what is right and what is one’s own is the thread that runs through the story, and this was the crux of the difference in opinion between my children and me: whilst they argued that he had to accept his fate, I maintained that he needed to reclaim what was rightfully his, for no one should be subjugated by others in the name of a greater good. Sacrificing one child for another is not the right thing to do.
In the end, that desire to reclaim what was rightfully theirs was what led everyone to understand that we all have the right to be what we wish to be, including Hyakkimaru, who had to face a world that demanded he not exist.

Greetings, fellow otaku friends of #TheAnimeRealm. The series I want to share my opinion on today is another one that I liked, but didn't absolutely love. I think it could have been better, especially the ending. Today, I'll tell you what I think about the Dororo series, an anime that was remade in 2019 by one of Japan's largest production companies, better known as MAPPA.
The ending felt rushed, almost forced, when the story could have been expanded to provide a better conclusion and avoid leaving it so open-ended. In the end, you don't know what happens to this sweet anime couple whose friendship and affection grew as they spent time together, and I insist, it could have ended better.
There were also moments in the story, one or two episodes, that felt like filler because, to be honest, they weren't necessary; the plot could have reached its point without them. For me, this caused the series to slow down at a certain point, only to then accelerate excessively in the finale, inserting unnecessary and forced scenes.
Had it not been for these small but significant details, the series itself would have been a 10/10, but no. MAPPA decided to deliver this work, which, in my humble opinion, could have been better. So, if you enjoy a bit of gore, action, and the occasional touch of comedy in some episodes, I recommend watching this series at least once in your life.
Yes, despite what I've mentioned, Dororo is a series worth watching. Its plot is full of drama and suffering, and anyone could empathize with the protagonist. That's why, even though I didn't love it, I still recommend watching it, because I'm sure some of you will. And well, as I mentioned before, if it weren't for these details I didn't like, it could have been a masterpiece.
›Review Anime Dororo 👹Hyakkimaru is Heavy, It's Dark and Bloody@alienpunklord422d
Welcome to another art post here in the community.
I have absolutely no idea why I hadn’t watched Dororo (2019) until now. I knew it was a remake of an old manga by Osamu Tezuka, the same creator of things like Astro Boy, so I confess I started it with low expectations, thinking it would be something lighter or outdated.
But I was so wrong.
Dororo is heavy.
It's dark and bloody.
At the same time, it manages to be extremely human and touching. It almost feels like someone took that dirty, melancholic spirit of Berserk, toned down the blind rage a bit, and replaced it with a more introspective look at what it means to be human, what it's like to lose everything and still have to move forward. And all of this is told fluidly in just 24 episodes. I can’t believe it took me this long to give it a shot.
The story revolves around Hyakkimaru, a man who was born without practically any parts of his body no skin, no eyes, no arms, no legs, no tongue, no hearing, nothing. That’s because his father, a greedy feudal lord, made a pact with 12 demons so that his land would prosper in exchange for his newborn son's body parts.
And of course, the demons accepted.
It’s one of the most brutal openings I’ve ever seen in an anime. Right from the start, you feel like there won’t be a happy ending.
But Hyakkimaru survives.
A doctor finds him, builds prosthetics for him, and teaches him how to survive.
For every demon he defeats, a part of his body is returned.
And so begins his journey to kill the demons and recover his humanity. Along the way, he meets Dororo, a street orphan with a bold attitude who becomes his companion on this bizarre path between the supernatural and the painfully real. And let me tell you... the relationship between the two is the soul of the anime. It’s not a forced friendship. It’s something that grows, shapes itself, suffers, and heals.
Hyakkimaru is practically mute during the first half of the series, since he doesn’t have hearing or a voice at the beginning. That might seem like a problem at first, but man, the way the anime conveys his pain, suffering, and struggle without him saying a word is absurd. His gaze, even without real eyes, says it all. When he finally regains part of his hearing and later his voice, it’s like you’re right there feeling everything with him.
Now, Dororo, the character, is a whole other story. At first, it seems like they’re just the typical comic relief, but over time you discover that the kid has an emotional burden just as heavy as the protagonist’s.
Their family story, what happened to their parents, and how they ended up living on the streets... it’s sad, revolting, and a gut punch.
And the coolest part is that the anime handles all this with respect, without forced melodrama.
Speaking of the animation it’s not perfect all the time, okay? There are a few episodes in the middle where you can see a dip in quality, especially in the faster action scenes. But overall, the direction makes up for it. There are beautiful shots, well-choreographed fights, and a visual care that matches the anime's dark, mythological tone. The aesthetic is kind of raw and gritty, but that’s intentional it pulls you right into that feudal Japan corrupted by greed, full of monsters, but where the real horror often comes from humans themselves.
Oh, and the soundtrack... man, what a banger of an opening! The first opening, "Kaen" by Queen Bee, throws you right into the vibe. It’s stylish, unsettling, full of energy. The background score during the episodes is also used really well. Awkward silences, tribal beats, distorted sounds all of it helps keep you immersed in that broken world.
Now, for the negatives… well, like any anime with episodic arcs, there are some weaker ones. There are parts in the middle of the series that feel like filler side quests that don’t add much. And I’ll admit that the ending, while satisfying, didn’t give me the catharsis I was hoping for. It’s not bad, far from it it wraps up the journey, delivers character growth, and leaves you with the feeling that you watched something important. But I was left wanting more. Maybe that’s actually a compliment disguised as a critique?
Another thing is that the anime tackles some really heavy themes mutilation, war, hunger, abandonment, religious fanaticism so it’s not for everyone. If you like anime just for the action or comedy, Dororo might feel slow. But if you want to dive into a drama that makes you think and feel, it’s absolutely worth it.
At the end of the day, Dororo reminded me why I love anime so much. It pulled me out of my comfort zone, made me root for a character who couldn’t even speak, and moved me in a simple yet profound way. Does it have flaws? Sure. But they’re small compared to the impact the series leaves.
For fans of Berserk, Vinland Saga, or even Samurai Champloo (for the setting and themes), Dororo is a recommendation I make with my eyes closed.
And once you finish it, hit me up so we can talk about that episode with the blind monk.
Seriously, that was one of the best moments of the whole season.

Hello friends of the @theanimerealm Community, how are you? I hope you're having a nice afternoon. Today I'm going to share the opening song from an anime that brings me a lot of nostalgia. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about: "DORORO." I think this was the performance that was the hardest for me. It wasn't perfect, but believe me, it was the best I could do. The notes are very complicated.

No witty or humorous comment to begin today's talk guys. No bigger joke than life;) Anyways, I believe some of us would've seen this and can probably nod their heads in response when I say this was a decent show.
Dororo...the amount of times I've seen this anime on my watchlist and scrolled past it is depressing and also outrageous. It's my first time seeing it and I don't know how to feel about it. It's good,I can't even deny that fact but at the same time... it's also sad. I was looking for something to lighten my mood not make me think!

Well, anyways... let's begin on a review, shall we?
Dororo is a gripping historical-fantasy anime set in war-torn feudal Japan, centered around two unlikely companions: a quiet, mysterious boy named Hyakkimaru and a quick-witted orphan thief named Dororo.
The story begins with a desperate lord, Daigo Kagemitsu, who offers his unborn son to twelve demons in exchange for power and prosperity for his land. The deal works; his domain flourishes, but his child is born without limbs, eyes, skin, or even a voice. Abandoned as an infant, Hyakkimaru is rescued and raised by a kind-hearted doctor who gives him prosthetics and teaches him how to survive.
Equipped with blade arms, killer reflexes, and a demonic body count that would make Doomguy blush, Hyakkimaru sets off on a mission to reclaim his stolen body parts, one demon at a time. Along the way, he meets Dororo, a clever and courageous child who becomes his traveling companion. Together, they navigate a brutal world of war, poverty, and supernatural threats, slowly uncovering truths about themselves and each other.
As Hyakkimaru regains his body piece by piece, he also rediscovers what it means to be human—feeling pain, joy, sadness, and even anger for the first time. Each victory brings him closer to being whole, but also forces him to face the emotional and moral consequences of his choices. Meanwhile, Dororo’s own story unfolds, revealing a hidden past and a legacy left behind by her revolutionary parents who fought for justice and equality.
The anime delves deeply into themes of identity, sacrifice, morality, and the question of what truly makes someone human. It asks whether vengeance can lead to peace, and whether it’s possible to break the cycle of hatred passed down from one generation to the next.

Despite its serious tone, Dororo is filled with moments of warmth, charm, and quiet humor—often through Dororo though. She distracts us from the excessive gore,a lot.
By the end, Hyakkimaru chooses forgiveness over revenge, walking away from his past to seek a new future, forgiving his demon loving father I guess. Dororo, now more determined than ever, decides to carry on her parents’ dream of rebuilding a better world.
If you like samurai, supernatural chaos, and existential crises wrapped in anime glory, this one’s for you.
Thanks for reading...

›Dororo review, between demons, history and fighting. (ENG/ESP)@noemilunastorta485d
Good morning hivers how are you? Yesterday I finished this anime that I can say will definitely end up among my favorites, taken from the manga by the master Osamu Tezuka it is a true masterpiece both in plot and music, drawing and style. It is not a romantic anime, the genre is historical, supernatural and action, if you love this genre you absolutely must see it, you can find it on Amazon prime video! The plot tells of an orphan Dororo and a warrior Hyakkimaru during a hypothetical Sengoku era full of demons and magic, who unite to fight the demons. Hyakkimaru himself, however, is under a powerful curse that struck him at birth when his noble father exchanged him for fame, ambition and power, since then the warrior wanders alone and has developed incredible powers and strengths that allow him to defeat the demons, during the pilgrimage he meets the impertinent orphan Dororo who lives of small scams and hardships and will join him in the hunt for demons. During each episode there will be various stories, some crude, others moving, of villages infested by demobes and next to them there will also be the story of Hiakkymaru with his dark past and a brother who is looking for him to kill him and of Dororo, son of a samurai chief with a dark painful past behind him and an important secret about himself. A magnificent anime, at times crude and cruel, at others sweet and funny, a wonderful setting and stories that are never predictable, I really recommend it and then everything by Tezuka is a guarantee!

Hello, friends of the @theanimerealm community! This is the space where true anime fans gather. I hope you're having a great day. Today I bring you a review of the anime "Dororo" this anime touched my heart in a unique way so I could watch it endlessly.
Within the genre of action, drama and dark fantasy, Dororo is an anime that manages to combine samurai, demons and a touching exploration of the meaning of humanity. Based on the classic manga by Osamu Tezuka, this 2019 remake modernizes the story with stunning animation and a deeply emotional narrative.
If you like samurai stories with a dark and mature tone, Dororo is a gem that will grab you from the first episode and leave you reflecting on sacrifice and human nature
In the Sengoku era, ruthless feudal lord Daigo Kagemitsu makes a pact with 12 demons to gain power and prosperity for his domain. As payment, the demons demand something valuable: his firstborn, who is born without skin, eyes, limbs, or organs.
Left for dead, the baby is abandoned, but a kind-hearted doctor finds him and crafts prosthetics so he can survive. Over time, this boy, Hyakkimaru, discovers that he can regain his lost parts whenever he defeats a demon.
Along the way, he meets Dororo, an orphan boy who becomes his companion on adventures. Together they embark on a journey filled with danger, facing monsters, samurai, and the harsh realities of a Japan at war, as Hyakkimaru seeks to regain his humanity.
While Dororo is action-packed and fantasy packed, its true strength lies in its deeply emotional story. Every encounter with a demon is not only a battle, but also a moment of development for Hyakkimaru, who fights to reclaim his body and his place in the world.
The anime also touches on philosophical and moral themes, such as sacrifice, human greed, and the struggle between fate and free will.
From the first episode, we feel Hyakkimaru's anguish. Having no senses, his way of experiencing the world is completely different from that of any other character. His evolution is incredible, from being a nearly emotionless warrior to someone who fights not only for his body, but for his very humanity.
While Hyakkimaru is the protagonist, Dororo is the soul of the series. Despite being a child in a cruel world, he has an unwavering determination and an infectious energy. Her friendship with Hyakkimaru is what gives balance to the story, showing how connection with others is key to reclaiming what it truly means to be human.
While the series is amazing as a whole, some episodes can feel slower or less impactful to the main story.
The demons Hyakkimaru faces are impressive, but in some cases they feel more like obstacles in his path than enemies with a clear motivation. The story focuses so much on the protagonist that some antagonists lack depth.
Without giving away spoilers, the ending of the story can be shocking and even controversial for some viewers. It's not a bad ending, but it does leave open questions and a sense of melancholy that may not be to everyone's taste.
¡Definitivamente!
Definitely! If you're looking for an anime that mixes action, drama, and a deep exploration of the meaning of humanity, Dororo is a modern masterpiece. Its emotional story, stunning animation, and unforgettable protagonist make it an anime that not only entertains, but leaves an impression on the viewer.
It's an anime that will make you reflect on the nature of sacrifice, the purpose of life, and the importance of human connection.
Despite some unevenly paced moments and villains that could have been better developed, Dororo shines with its heartwarming story, striking character development, and unique atmosphere.
If you like anime with deep narrative and spectacular aesthetics, Dororo is a must-watch series.
In medieval Japan, in order to protect his domain, feudal lord makes a pact with demons, sacrificing parts of his newborn child (arms, legs, skin from the face, eyes, nose and ears). What's left of an infant is discarded, but the child survives "thanks to his strong will to live", being adopted by Japan's only prosthetic enthusiast. Boy grows up to become a fierce sword fighter, being able to see only shapes of the souls of living beings. Being blind, deaf, mute, having no sense of smell and missing (all) arms and legs, he is a superior fighter, picking up fights with powerful demon gods (monsters), slowly reacquiring body parts (and senses) that was taken from him.
What would make such story work? Scriptwriters certainly made everything they could to make their job as difficult as possible and the story as implausible as it could be... Did they succeed in making impossible story work? Barely, by having humanising supporting character Dororo accompany 16 years old protagonist on his journey. Dororo is an orphan child who assists protagonist in everything and keeps him humane, inhibiting protagonist's tendency to lose his humanity and become ruthless murderer due to all the fights.
The long show is full of tragedies, abundant cruelty and monster fights but protagonist gains nothing from slaying some monsters. Ending is barely satisfying and the show ends as soon as protagonist recovers the last body part. So in the end, viewers are not rewarded for their patience. But being borderline boring is not the worst thing about the show. The story is soaked in utilitarian "ethics" -- the worst moral philosophy ever invented. Throughout the show, everybody condemn protagonist for trying to recover his body from demons. "Every piece of you belongs to this land!" his younger brother yells while trying to kill him. His own father tried to kill him because of breaking pact with demons as domain begins to suffer from drought, epidemic and other disasters. And his mother suffers from guilt yet agrees that his sacrifice was justified. Protagonist asks his foster-father to fix broken prosthetic leg but he refuses, to prevent damage to the land protected by monsters. What is the life of one person comparing to prosperity of many? -- that is the question that the show always answers with definitive "nothing".
Mediocre show with profoundly broken ethics that justifies human sacrifice. Conclusion, despite appearance of happy ending, did not redeem moral wrongs in any way.
What's up community? I hope you are having a nice weekend, following with the Month Quest tasks, I remembered the anime Dororo (2019), since it has some references to Japanese folklore, I had already talked about this anime a long time ago, I really liked it and I have seen that more people are liking it since I have seen several reviews about this great series here in the community.
We all know that Dororo is about Hyakkimaru, a young man who was sacrificed by his own father to the demons just so that in his land there is prosperity and peace, Hyakkimaru goes hunting the demons that ate parts of his body to recover them, in that he meets Dororo and many things happen in the life of these two characters.
This is where the figure of the Yokai comes in, which are very present in Japanese culture, also the gods that can be seen in the series and the spirits is something that is important in Japanese folklore and we can see that it is very present in Dororo, besides the fact that the series takes place in the Sengoku period, a period that was full of civil wars in Japan. The character designs, the setting, the costumes, among others, contain cultural symbols, we can also see portrayed religion, such as Buddhism and Shintoism, Hyakkimaru's mother always prayed to a small effigy of Kannon, which is made of wood, in fact, the last demon could not eat the last part of Hyakkimaru because his mother was praying at the time of his birth and that prevented the last demon to take the last part of her son.
Most of the Yokai we can see in the series, were invention of Osamu Tezuka (the author of the Dororo manga), many, based on traditional legends such as the Kyuubi (which I mentioned previously in the post I made about the references to Japanese folklore in Naruto), also the Yoma, the demonic horse that appears in the last episodes, which Hyakkimaru rides.
And those were just some of the examples of the great amount of Yokai that we can see in Dororo, as I told you, the Yokai are part of the Japanese folklore and we can see them in many more productions, like in Kimetsu no Yaiba. I hope you liked today's post, tell me what you think about this topic. I'll say goodbye for now, thank you very much for reading and see you later in another post ❤️

I recently watched Dororo, a 2019 anime that since it was on air I put it on my to-watch list to watch later, but for various reasons I hadn't seen it yet. I recently reviewed said list and and since I had time available to watch a series, I decided to watch this one.
Imagine that your father, in his desire for power and prosperity for his people, decides to make a pact with the demons in which he gives something precious to him in exchange, and as a result of this pact you are born without eyes, nose, skin or limbs and you are condemned to die by your own father, and although you manage to survive and get a prosthetic body, you are condemned to fight with these demons to recover the parts of your body that were taken away from you.
Sounds tragic and complicated, right? Well, that's exactly what happened to Hyakkimaru, the protagonist of this samurai series set in an ancient Japan where monsters and demons exist.
The main character is Hyakkimaru, a boy born with a curse thanks to his father's ambition. He was born without eyes, nose, skin, limbs and without his senses, so he cannot see, hear, taste, smell or feel, and although he somehow managed to survive and get a prosthetic body, he is doomed to fight with demons to recover his body.

Before watching the series we could think that this character would be called Dororo for being the character on whom the main plot revolves and for the name of the series, but in reality Dororo is the child who accompanies him during his journey.
This boy is an orphan and despite his youth, he has lived one tragedy after another due to the war and has had to learn to live alone in the world, but when he meets Hyakkimaru he is curious about him and decides to accompany him on his journey, however, he has his own secrets that we will know throughout the story.
Among other characters we have Hyakkimaru's adoptive father, a doctor who found him as a baby and gave him his prosthetic body, a mysterious priest who crosses paths with our protagonists frequently, a girl who takes care of other orphaned children, also the demons and finally Hyakkimaru's biological family.
I don't want to give more details about the series because I would like you to watch it and draw your own conclusions about it, but if you ask me, I would say that I liked it quite a bit.
It's a story with a good plot, good character development and several plot twists that leave you speechless at times when certain revelations are made.
It is also very thoughtful and has lessons with profound messages. I really invite you to watch it if you haven't seen it, and if you have, I'd like you to leave me comments with your opinions below.
By the way, I should warn you that the series is quite a bit graphic and there is quite a bit of gore. It's up to the individual's discretion.

I think this is the first time I share content in this community, I am not a great connoisseur of anime to be honest, I watch them because I enjoy it and it is one of my favorite activities when I have free time, although I have seen several I don't feel qualified to judge, talk in a technical tone or compare with others, as I mentioned at the beginning, I watch anime for the simple fact of enjoying a good story, without looking for flaws, that said I would love to give you a brief review of an anime I saw a few months ago and I found beautiful the story of overcoming and desire to live fully of the main characters.
This is the story of Hyakkimaru and Dororo, two young people who life brings them together to be inseparable and a pillar in each other's lives. Hyakkimaru did not have it easy since his birth, this because his father made a pact with the demons to bring prosperity to their land, in exchange for whatever they wanted, they decide to take everything from Hyakkimaru, his limbs, eyes, senses, even his skin, but not his life, he was thrown to die in a swamp, his destiny was not to perish there, he was found by a man who noticed his great desire to live and decided to raise him as his son. Growing up Hyakkimaru has great fighting skills, which he uses to fight the demons that steal everything from him, he embarks on a journey seeking to be a complete human.
“Humanity” something Hyakkimaru doesn't know until he meets Dororo, an orphan who has struggled to take care of himself from a very young age teaches him the value of friendship, and gives Hyakkimaru reason to fight, beyond recovering his missing body parts, Dororo also has his personal struggles as he searches for his purpose in life, he also fears that his friend Hyakkimaru by killing mercilessly, will take away from his humanity.
Hyakkimaru and Dororo have incredible adventures in the search for demons, they make friends who accompany them until the end, during this journey they discover secrets of their lives, it is an anime that offers more than a good story, it touches deep issues such as humanity, ethics, and leaves many teachings that can move you, every sacrifice has a cost, and we learn it as the story progresses, revenge can consume a person, in the arduous search for his body we see how Hyakkimaru begins to lose his essence, the anime shows how the characters struggle with the circumstances of his life, that makes us question how much control we have over our destiny.
It is one of those short animes that you can watch in a day, personally one of the ones I liked the most, I hope you can watch it, thanks for coming here.

Hello everyone dear friends of The Anime Realm community... I hope you are feeling great today. Today I come to tell you all about the journey that has been reliving the Dororo series... I watched this anime some time ago, but recently I watched it again with my girlfriend. And it really made me realize the tremendous quality it has... it made me want to do a review about it. This anime was released, as I told you, some time ago, it has about 24 episodes and the story takes us to feudal Japan, in the middle of the Sengoku era. A rather turbulent period, marked by civil wars and many famines... in this brutal context, we will meet Hyakkimaru. A young man whose body was offered to some 48 demons by his father, even before he was born, and then abandoned to fate... Many people gave him up for dead, but a doctor manages to rescue him, and somehow manages to save his life, replacing some of his parts...
Many years later, Hyakkimaru must undertake a journey to recover all the parts of his body, and as always he will have to defeat many demons to achieve this... On the way he will meet a little orphan boy who will become his companion in his adventures. The first thing that struck me about this anime was all the rawness with which this era is portrayed, I really like when a series does not beat around the bush when it comes to showing violence and the atrocities of war... There are some really shocking scenes that may even be hard to digest for some viewers.. but I feel that it is this realistic approach that gives so much strength to the narrative.. I think it really helps to better understand all the motivations of the characters, and I personally like it when an anime is raw and realistic!
I found the evolution of our protagonist fascinating.. we start with a character who can barely communicate and is just looking to get back what was unjustly taken away from him, but as he regains some of his senses and body parts, he also slowly develops his humanity.. I found it beautiful to see how he learns to relate to others and question his purpose beyond what is simple revenge. Dororo (the little boy he meets) brings all that tenderness and optimism to the story.. his energy and determination contrasts perfectly with Hyyakimaru's more gruff and apathetic nature. The dynamic between both characters is one of the strongest points of the anime, I really enjoyed seeing how their relationship evolves and we get some really touching moments...
I thought the animation was excellent, all the landscapes of feudal Japan are beautifully rendered, they have scenes with some muted colors, so nice that they reflect the gloomy atmosphere of the time. And of course, the action scenes are fluid and exciting, especially the confrontations against demons or some samurai battles... I really liked that the soundtrack also contributed its own, although it doesn't stand out too much, it fulfills its function when it comes to setting the scenes... it helps a lot to connect with the characters in some emotional moments that can surely make you cry. The opening is one of the undisputed gems of this anime, it mixes traditional Japanese elements with modern rock that perfectly captures the essence of the anime. Although both openings are good, I'll take my first one, it's simply spectacular. I love it!
Me encanta!
Among some other very interesting aspects of this anime is how it handles all the themes such as the nature of good and evil, the price of power, and the search for identity, there are no completely good and bad characters, even the father of our protagonist who could be considered the main antagonist or the most evil of all, has motivations to some extent understandable, although clearly his actions are very despicable. The series also does a great job of showing the consequences of Hyakkimaru's actions, each demon he defeats takes away all prosperity from the region he was protecting. Which raises a rather interesting moral dilemma Is it fair for one individual to regain that which belongs to him at the cost of the suffering of many?
There are no really easy answers, and the anime doesn't try to give them to us, but rather invites us to reflect. However, I must admit that the pacing of the series sometimes felt uneven to me... there are episodes that feel a bit slow bordering on filler, and that disconnect too much from the main plot, especially reaching the middle of the season. Although these episodic stories in a way help to build the world and develop the characters, so it's not that bad at all, although it does feel a bit of a slowdown. But hey, it's something forgivable and it doesn't tarnish the great quality of this series.
The ending of this series left me with some mixed feelings. Without going into spoilers, I felt that some subplots were left unresolved... this I personally don't like at all. But they do manage to close the main arc, so to speak, in a coherent way, and in a way this is a big plus. I feel that Dororo is an experience that every anime fan should have.. it's intense and emotional, it has a combination of supernatural action, historical drama, and a lot of philosophical reflection. All of this makes it a unique anime that certainly deserves recognition.... It clearly has some ups and downs in terms of pacing, but if you're looking for a series that makes you think, moves you, and isn't afraid to show you the darker aspects of human nature along with some very decent action, this anime is certainly an excellent choice.
It's a powerful reminder of how this medium can be so great at telling deep and meaningful stories. I give it a rating of 8.5/10. It's a series that I certainly recommend, enjoyed watching and will probably watch again in the future. If you like anime that goes far beyond mere entertainment, give it a chance... you won't regret it. I leave you my favorite opening below... see you in the next reviews. Take care. Bye bye.
Bye bye.

If you like anime with an interesting plot, for adults, without unnecessary sexualization and with few chapters, Dodoro is a series you will love.
Personally, I'm not much of an anime connoisseur or fan, but sometimes I come across interesting and quality works like this one.
INTRODUCTION
It all starts with a deal between Daigo and 12 demons. An emperor fed up with his people suffering from famines, droughts and epidemics. He decides to abandon the path of Buddha and the gods, to offer the demons a deal. In exchange for their protection of his land, in order to rule his nation, he proposes that they take something of his, "whatever they want". Lightning strikes and the pact is closed.

Later, Daigo's wife is in labor. Just after the birth, they are interrupted by another lightning bolt. Everyone is shocked and terrified at the sight of that baby. The demons claimed their part of the bargain. They stripped their child of limbs, skin and senses. Leaving something barely recognizable as a human.

That baby was abandoned in a river. Everyone assumed that he would not live. His condition was extremely delicate and fragile. The baby was found by Jukai. A doctor and surgeon who raised him and protected him as a son. He provided him with functional prostheses, to cover his shortcomings. Taught him to fight to defend himself. He gave him a name to have an identity. And he was baptized as Hyakkimaru.

PLOT
Hyakkimaru despite not possessing real senses and limbs, had something that others did not. The ability to see "soul fire". This allowed him to easily identify evil beings. Giving him an advantage when it came to fighting.
TRAMA

One day, when defeating a demon in the forest, one of Hyakkimaru's legs regenerates. At that moment, his father assumes that he carries a curse. And to regain his entire body, he must defeat several demons. From here begins his journey to regain what was taken from him.

In the middle of his journey, he saves a girl named Dororo. She is an orphan who steals, swindles and cheats to survive. Dororo is very intrigued by Hyakkimaru and decides to accompany and follow him on his adventure. Thus begins an almost brotherly relationship.

THINGS I LIKED
I love how as the chapters go by Hyakkimaru acquires more humanity. At the beginning he is seen as a senseless puppet who only knows how to fight. Over the course of the series we get to see him express emotions, laugh and be amazed by things as basic as rain.
Screenshot taken by me. / Captura de pantalla hecha por mí.
At one point, we are presented with a very difficult ethical dilemma: Should an entire nation perish just to get Hyakkimaru's body back? Is it right to destroy so many lives for one? Even though the protagonist just wants to get back what belongs to him, is it right? I like how they present a very fine line between good and evil.

As I said before, this is an anime for adults. There is no childish humor, there are scenes that can shock you quite a bit and sometimes things end very badly. It's a relief to find series like this, when everything is becoming more and more infantilized.

THINGS I DO NOT LIKE
At times, the series goes very fast and at others very slow. The first part flies by and the second part doesn't become tedious, but you do feel that things happen at a different speed.
Screenshot taken by me. / Captura de pantalla hecha por mí.
I would have liked to see more moments of relief. Finish one fight and they jump to another. Funny you should say that, but I would have been pleased to see a bit more "filler". See more of how Hyakkimaru gets used to his senses and body, for example.

CONCLUSION
Personally, I recommend this series to anyone who is willing to enjoy something beautiful. And above all, I recommend this anime to those people who do not have or are not willing to spend so much time watching a series. Since it only has 24 chapters of 20 minutes. If I had to give it a score, it would be an 8.5/10.

Greetings @theanimerealm community, today I want to share my review and opinion of an anime that I loved and that I can not stop recommending, although there are plenty of reviews of it, the opinions and point of view are different, so I want to express mine about it, because it is a gem of anime that really attracts the plot, wrapping you in the story of its characters and with an animation that is worth appreciating. It is not only an adaptation of a manga, but also of the anime that was released in the 60's, which, in my opinion, honored its predecessor.
The story introduces us to one of its main characters Hyakkimaru, a child born in the Sengoku period (the feudal era) without his organs, deformed, not even his skin, born alive thanks to the Goddess of Mercy and the prayers of his mother. However, this happens to him because of a pact made by his parents to 48 demons, where each one took a part of his body.
The father, instead of being worried about his son, ends up rejoicing for what happened, because it meant that they accepted the payment and that the town was going to prosper; he snatches him from the arms of his mother, who loved him despite his appearance, and sends them to get rid of the child, since he would not survive on his own. But, as fate would have it, a doctor, who made prostheses for those who had lost a limb during the war, took him in when he saw that the little boy was clinging to life.
He makes him a wooden body and teaches him how to fight with a sword in order to defend himself and recover his real body. On his way, he meets a little orphan and thief girl, called Dororo, who not only ends up joining him, but also, little by little, teaches him what it is to be human, forming a very nice relationship where they will learn which is the path they should follow.
Dororo is undoubtedly an anime with a splendid narrative, where the dark, mysterious tones and intense actions, conjugate very well with the developed story. Approached from a complicated context, touching quite deep themes, such as revenge, redemption, morality, among others, makes it really captivating.
If we analyze a little deeper, this story is similar to Pinocchio, of course, much darker and heartbreaking, which shows more deeply, the cruel nature of human beings. A child who seeks to be real and in his path has someone who guides him along the right path and teaches him human values.
Maybe Hyakkimaru's father committed such an act against his son to save an entire village, however, a "prosperity" forged through a sacrifice is a false prosperity, in my opinion, the boy had every right to recover what was originally his, even if, in the end, I am bringing famine and misfortune to the village, you have the opportunity to grow without resorting to cruel pacts, you can work hard to achieve progress.
I must say, that both the character of Hyakkimaru's mother and his adoptive father, without leaving aside our little Dororo, were crucial for him not to become a demon, a being without feelings and emotions; although the cost of his body was high, it could be said that it was the best way, somehow.
As for the comparisons between the 1969 anime and this one, the difference between times, scenarios and emotions that surrounds each one is clearly noticeable; there were 50 years of difference and, therefore, the story is transmitted differently, here we even see the introduction of other characters, which give more dynamism to the series and a better story. The 2019 one does not fall into that intense dramatic tone, but wraps everything that is being addressed in a fluid way, resorting to a more realistic narrative, however, it cannot be denied that the '69 one also has its touch.
Finally, the openings and endings fit completely with the plot, with colors and shades that introduce you to what the plot is about, but my favorite is still the first one; from my point of view, both have the MAPPA seal.

Greetings fans of #action and adventure #anime. This time we will be talking about Dororo, a #series you can't miss. The plot is exciting and full of twists and turns, and the characters are interesting and well developed.
The #series follows Hyakkimaru(Voiced by Hiroki Suzuki)), a young boy who was stripped of his body by 48 demons when he was a baby. Now in his teens, Hyakkimaru is on a mission to get his body back and take revenge on the demons who took it from him. On his journey, he meets Dororo(Voiced by Rio Suzuki)), a young thief who joins him in his quest.
Hyakkimaru is a somewhat complex, yet fascinating character. Having been stripped of his body by demons, he has spent much of his life without the ability to see, hear or feel. However, despite these limitations, he is a skilled and strong warrior who fights demons to regain his body and discover his true identity. As the story progresses, he hunts down each of the 48 demons and obtains parts of their bodies. This allows him to regain his senses and experience the world in a whole new way.
Dororo, on the other hand, is a very cheerful and optimistic character who helps Hyakkimaru in his quest while also struggling with his own inner demons. From the beginning, he is drawn to Hyakkimaru and his mission, so he decides to join him on his journey. Throughout the series, we see a rather close relationship develop between the two, and Dororo ends up becoming an important support for Hyakkimaru in his crusade.
What makes the relationship between Hyakkimaru and Dororo so interesting is the way they complement each other. Hyakkimaru is a serious and reserved person who struggles with his own identity, while Dororo is a cheerful and optimistic boy who often acts as the relief to the plot and thus brings the comedic factor to the #series. Despite these differences, the two have a natural chemistry that makes it easy for the viewer to connect and empathize with them, their story and their past.
In addition, the #series also explores deeper themes through the relationship between Hyakkimaru and Dororo. The #series raises questions about identity, friendship and the meaning of sacrifice through the experiences of the two characters. At the same time, it also touches on the sensitive issue of the use of children for economic well-being.
The #animation is quite impressive. The character designs are detailed and somewhat expressive, giving them a great deal of personality and charisma. The scenery is beautiful and well drawn, which helps create an immersive environment for the plot. I highlight the fact of how well worked the night scenes are, something that many recently released series have not been able to do, or have not been able to do due to time or budget issues. The soundtrack has an acceptable quality, as is customary in series of this type. The background music is exciting and well adapted to the action scenes, while the opening and closing songs are catchy and exciting.
As for criticisms, some fans have pointed out that the plot can be a bit predictable and even repetitive at times, and that some episodes feel a bit disconnected from the main plot. What those critics fail to take into account is that, if the series were based entirely on Hyakkimaru fighting the 48 demons, there it was bound to fall into monotony. In fact, it has become customary for every #series to dedicate at least one chapter or part of one chapter to tell us the personal story of a secondary character. However, these problems are minor compared to the good things this #anime has to offer.
In summary, Dororo is an exciting and well-made series that is worth watching if you are a fan of the action-adventure genre. With interesting characters, impressive animation and a pretty good soundtrack, this series is one of the best of the genre in its year.

The soundtrack is a total success since it helps perfectly to generate that old era in which events take place, in turn it also manages to be exciting in the moments of action to provide the scenes of that musical companion to make conflicts memorable.

The animation is not exaggeratedly detailed however it achieves an extremely remarkable fluidity that is more appreciable at the time of the combats, another point in its favor is the fact that it does not use exaggerated light effects during the fights so these can be enjoyed perfectly without there being extra elements that ruin the moment.

The construction of the world is a total success, since from the beginning it seeks to capture an extremely chaotic, deplorable and misery world, constantly besieged by all kinds of evils produced by various monsters, demons or even by humans themselves; a complicated world and constant wars that plague the poor wretches who have no choice but to live there. In short, it is a fairly complete world that only poses misery, despair and gloom, having the sole objective of presenting a hard and depressing context being something that it achieves excellently.

The plot is extremely simple but it is no less interesting, from the beginning it makes clear what will be the only objective pursued by the protagonist, having a relatively poor narrative to be reduced only to constant combats with some antagonist on duty leaving all the weight on the confrontations, then it is worth asking are the combats good? They are wonderful, some need strategies although they are mostly rampant where cuts, blood and visors are the order of the day. Outside of the confrontations there is not much to tell because everything else that it raises is quite weak and inconsequential argumentatively speaking, although the concept of a city being plunged more and more into misery could be interesting the truth of the case is that it is given little focus and importance.
The characters are quite basic in general, the most remarkable is Dororo who shows a certain degree of maturity in terms of his decisions and understanding of the different events, however it is only very superficial so it does not get to deepen in a remarkable way to the character. The rest are much flatter in comparison, Hyakkimaru is only reduced to attacking and killing everything that stands in his way, Tahomaru poses a vague feeling of commitment to his citizens although this does not develop beyond that brief commitment, the father only gives rise to the plot however he is an extremely boring antagonist. The rest of the characters such as Biwamaru an old blind man with swordsmanship, Jukai a carpenter who puts prostheses on the dead and Nui-nokata the mother of Hyakkimaru, in general are not interesting and are only to be able to talk about Hyakkimaru either of his past, present or possible future.
Dororo is an anime that seeks to present conflicts plagued by action, blood and death, focuses on it achieving an excellent work, however it presents a weak argument since it never gives real importance to other aspects outside the combats. For all this it deserves a rating of 3.5 stars and 7, an anime that seeks to generate epic moments without giving real importance to the rest of the aspect, only aspires to provide great combats and is precisely what can be expected.

A couple of months ago, and thanks to my good friend @ochitoalreves’ recommendation, I started to watch an anime that is rarely talked about: Dororo. I was struck by this fact because, although it’s not a work that is exactly innovative in its premise (samurai, feudal Japan, demons, nothing we haven't seen before), the truth is that it manages to use "common" elements to tell us a story that beautifully handles interesting themes such as revenge, what it means to be a human, forgiveness, and redemption, all this of course through a cast of characters just as wonderful. But first, let's take a look at its author, its story, and its most recent anime adaptation, which I will talk about today.
Dororo is a manga series written by none other than Osamu Tezuka, popularly known as "The God of Manga" or "The Father of Manga". Although Dororo is not one of his best known works, he’s author of such important works in the industry as Astroboy, Jungle Taitei (or Kimba, the White Lion) and Ribbon No Kishi (Princess Knight). Tezuka's fame is due to the fact that thanks to his work - strongly inspired by the genius Walt Disney - manga not only began to spread massively as a reading style, but also began to make its way into the West after a Japan severely affected by the aftermath of World War II. From this idea we can realize that we are not dealing with just any product.
Dororo was first published in 1967 but the publisher considered it to be a "too dark" product, leading to its cancellation on July 22, 1968. However, on April 6, 1969 the first anime adaptation of this manga began to be broadcast and thanks to it the manga’s publication was resumed. Both the manga and the first anime ended their broadcast in October 1969. On March 19, 2018 was announced the release of a new Dororo anime produced by Mappa studios (recently known for Jujutsu Kaisen or Shingeki No Kyojin’s fourth season) for Amazon Prime Video, premiering on January 7, 2019 and concluding June 24 of the same year with a total of 24 episodes. As a curious fact, it also had a live action movie adaptation in 2007 and another adaptation in videogame form called Blood Will Tell: Tezuka Osamu's Dororo for the PlayStation 2 console.
The story takes place in the Sengoku Period of feudal Japan, a time in Japanese history when a long and cruel civil war was waged. Here dwells Daigo Kagemitsu, a greedy feudal lord whose ambition goes so far as to offer the life of his unborn son in a pact with demons; in exchange for his son's body, Daigo's lands will be prosperous and his rule will be long. And so it happens, the night Daigo's son is born the demons take away the skin, internal organs, arms, legs, eyes, nose and ears of the newborn. After this, Daigo abandons his newborn and vulnerable son on a raft, condemning him to die. The deal between Daigo and the demons is fulfilled and his lands begin to prosper and he has a new son whom he raises as his heir, Tahomaru Kagemitsu, taking for granted that his first son, the one who was born deformed due to the pact of the demons, had already died, but what Daigo didn’t count on was that this child would be born with something that not even demons could take away from him: the will to live.
Perhaps by chance, or perhaps due to his will to live, the baby is found by Doctor Jukai, a doctor who makes wooden prostheses for those who have suffered mutilations in war; Jukai saves the baby, takes care of him, makes him a prosthetic body, raises him, and gives him a name: Hyakkimaru, and in addition to this, Jukai also instructs him in katana combat, and thanks to his demonic abilities conferred by his father's pact, Hyakkimaru becomes a very skilled swordsman. In his stay with Jukai, Hyakkimaru killed a demon that attacked them, in doing so, he recovered one of his legs and it was there where they both discovered that by killing the demons that possessed his body parts, he would recover them, so Hyakkimaru decides to embark on a journey to kill all the demons that have parts of his body. Starting his journey he met a small thief named Dororo who was being beaten by some thieves he had deceived and who also ends up saving his life because a demon appears on the scene. After being saved by Hyakkimaru, Dororo decides to travel with him to make use of his abilities, thus beginning the adventure of the two characters
Throughout its 24 episodes of duration the anime has a rhythm that reminds me quite a bit to the DC Comics superhero series of the CW network, I mean: each episode has a self-conclusive plot with the demon and characters on duty without losing focus on the main plot which is Hyakkimaru fighting to recover his body. Honestly this pleased me, it feels like a fresh and novel (and even risky) resource in this market, there are a couple of episodes that feel dispensable because it's little or nothing what they contribute to the plot, but it's not something that bothers me rather the contrary, it's nice to know more about the world where these characters live and how they interact with it. The story is interesting enough to never get bored, I don't feel it has big plot twists or anything like that, all the events are quite consistent with each other, which I also like, it's a very well thought out story, with a clear beginning and end and without the need to rummage or force incoherent situations.
But undoubtedly the strong point of this anime are its characters; starting with Hyakkimaru, who at the beginning is shown as someone inexpressive and little affected by his environment (I mean, it’s logical considering that he had no way to express himself or know what was happening around him beyond his ability to detect the souls of living beings) but as the plot progresses and he recovers his senses it’s as if he were literally a child being born, for example, when he recovers his hearing, the sounds of the world interrupt his way of fighting, and likewise when he recovers his sense of smell and becomes interested in the smells of plants, people and things. On the other hand, Dororo works as a sort of comic relief/co-protagonist, he is a boy with a very vivid and even adorable personality, he’s quite insightful and it is easy to get attached to him, plus the relationship he establishes with Hyakkimaru seems to me one of the nicest I've seen in anime so far. The rest of the cast is just as brilliant, but out of all of them I highlight: Hyakkmiaru's younger brother, Tahomaru Kagemitsu, who at first seems very curious about the secret that his family hides, and although he recognizes that his father's actions were despicable and feels some appreciation for his older brother, he shares the ideal of sacrificing him for the greater good; Nui, Hyakkimaru's mother, who carries an enormous sense of guilt for not having done anything for her son and who in the end ends up redeeming herself; and even Daigo himself, who although he will not win the father of the year award, the series makes a good effort to make us understand his ideal and even doubt who is right. There are other characters who are much less protagonists and are relegated to a single participation throughout the series, but they are still interesting, especially a couple of them who maintain close relationships with the demons in question.
As I previously mention, this anime is produced by Mappa studios, so from the beginning we can expect quality, polished and fairly consistent animation throughout its 24 episodes, there were only a couple of occasions and one episode where there was a drastic drop in quality, but that does not affect the series as a whole. Of course, you can't expect something at the level of Jujutsu Kaisen (also animated by Mappa Studios), but you can expect a more than decent and pleasant result, especially thanks to the detail and effort they put into the action scenes. For its part the soundtrack seems to me one of the most greatest hits of this anime, the compositions have a strong inspiration from traditional Japanese music, which perfectly accompanies each and every one of the moments in this journey through feudal Japan, there is not a single theme that is wasted, both for the moments of action and for the more intimate and reflective moments, the work done by Yoshihiro Ike is sublime.
While at the beginning of the anime Hyakkimaru's goal of killing all the demons and ultimately recovering his body seems like the hero's journey and the logical path to follow, as the plot unfolds colors become much grayer as every time Hyakkimaru kills a demon and recovers a part of his body, a territory of Daigo falls and returns to misery, being hit by drought, plague, etc, bringing death and desolation to innocents. Daigo and his second son, Tahomaru, see Hyakkimaru's death as necessary to preserve the prosperity of their lands, and it is true that this may seem a valid argument, but... How much truth is there in that prosperity born from the blood of an innocent? Is it really fair to sacrifice the life of someone who is not to blame for anything and who doesn’t want to sacrifice himself so that the kingdom prospers? Does it not seem rather an easy, desperate and cowardly way out driven solely by the desire for power? On the other hand, we have Hyakkimaru, who the more parts of his body he recovers the more humanity he loses, little by little the thirst for revenge consumes him to the point of not caring what he sacrifices along the way to get his body, but what if when he recovers his body he is no longer a human? Is the path of revenge really the right one? All of these questions - and more - make an appearance in Dororo, giving us a highly reflective work with a clearly optimistic message focused on stopping the cycle of hatred.
As I said at the beginning of this post, I don't understand why this anime is not talked about more; it seems unfair that it is so underrated because it really is a wonderful work in each and every one of its sections despite the "cliché" of its premise. Dororo ends up being a short but concise and above all good experience, the journey of an innocent being recovering something he never asked to be taken away, it is a story of how we should not lose ourselves on the way to reach our goals, a reflection of how fighting hate with hate will only generate more hate, we have to be better than the things from our past, and only through this we will find the redemption of our being.
I hope you liked this little review of the underrated Dororo, if you already saw it I would love to know what you think of this anime, and if on the contrary, you haven't seen it yet, I hope this post motivates you to do so.
Thank you so much for reading me, see ya next post!
›Dororo, A cruel but incredible story (ING) (ESP)@snader2060d
Dororo is an Anime directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi written by Yasuko Kobayashi and produced by MAPPA animation studio based on Osamu Tezuka manga. To tell you about this anime I have to tell you that there is a classic version but I will concentrate on talking about the 2019 version, clarified this, let's start.
Story: Dororo tells us the story of Hyakkimaru, a boy who was offered to the demons by his father in exchange for the fact that his land was prosperous and everything goes well, however the child is born when lightning strikes right where He is here but he does not die, his fate is cruel since his eyes, mouth, skin, ears, arms, legs and his senses were taken away, the only thing that was left was the flesh, bones and blood. Hyakkimaru however manages to live despite being abandoned, and uses prosthetics all over his body to move, on his journey he meets Dororo, an infant who has courage and cunning, Dororo is saved by Hyakkimaru when a demon tried kill Dororo. Together they embark on a journey to recover Hyakkimaru's body because if Hyakkimaru kills the demons that took his body parts from him when he was a baby he will recover them.
World: Dororo's world is set in ancient Japan, where samurais and bandits inhabited the entire nation. Its setting is very well achieved since it shows the danger and cruelty of that time, including some dark fantasy. The color palette is very gray and sometimes brown to give the feeling that it is a sad world dejected by war.
The characters: As for the characters, the main 2 are Hyakkimaru and Dororo, however throughout the story they will introduce us to several very charismatic characters with their unique abilities and well-polished personalities. Like the monk who appears from time to time, he is incredibly great, his way of speaking and expressing himself, his personality as such is wonderful, each character has his strengths and his faults but he does not stop being or feeling more human and real.
In conclusion: Dororo is a very well achieved dark fantasy anime, its characters and setting is totally incredible, it is at the level of berserk, here you will see blood, action and drama, since each action has its reaction. Including the openings and their endings, they are all incredibly well done, do I recommend it? Absolutely yes! If you want to spend a day full of action and feelings, Dororo is the anime you are looking for.
Thanks for reading, if you liked this post follow me and give me a like, it would help me a lot <3.

Anime series began to spread more than twenty years ago, and the quality of the series in terms of ideas and creativity made the whole world stand in respect of Japan for these huge productions.
But recently and in the last five years, manga series started to conquer the world and spread all over the world, followed by adults and children.
I will review with you in this post, the anime Dororo, but fair, I may not rely on watching a series or movie on a review only because it may not give the series its right, but I will try to convey to you a general impression.
The series, which consists of one season and 24 episodes, won the admiration of many and stole their hearts, reaching a rating of 8.4 / 10 and garnering millions of views.
The story
The story of the series begins with one of the samurai masters Daegu who decided to protect his land, but in a different way, he made an agreement with the demons, but offered them a different sacrifice this time.
He offered them the flesh of his son, his limbs and his skin, but the Shayatim did not rob him of his life.
But fate wills that this child has a great affair. The child named Hyakkimaru is thrown into the river to die after losing his limbs.
But he throws an old man to give him artificial limbs and teach him martial arts.
When Hyakkimaru grows up, he finds something very strange. When he is killed to find the demons, he finds that he has regained his face from here, Hyakkimaru realizes what he must do.
He discovers that he has a special ability, so when he kills the demons, he begins to restore his body little by little and joins him, the child Dororo, that shrewd child.
Dororo is completely different, as he deceives passers-by to earn a living, but joining Hyakkimaru forms a team from them that begins to confront demons and monsters.
Impression
Dororo's manga was published more than 50 years ago in a magazine, and it is one of the works of the genius author Osamu Tezuka who made a great revolution in the world of anime.
You may recognize him from the character Astroboy, the boy, the half-machine, half of humanity, on whom many anime series and films are based, as he is produced by Osamu Tezuka.
The series was produced last year, and has been met with admiration of many.
Although the performance in this series did not meet the big anime like Attack on Titan and others, we owe the genius Osamu Tezuka a new idea that was put forward to the anime world.
Anime movies always constitute a new idea for us, which is what is required for viewers and the base of the pyramid, and then comes creativity in graphics, dialogues and audio.
The truth is that this series fulfilled all these previous factors, even if it did not reach 100%.
Photography
The MAPPA studio added to us creativity and magic touches, which made the series taste and flavor other wonderful drawings, facial expressions and colors.
The director modified the story and added many expressions and dialogues to suit the more mature audience, unlike the original story that was directed to children.
Facial expressions and colors, most of which tended to be dark, added to us special feelings for the series.
In fact, Dororo is a mixture of old creativity, new execution, and a wonderful visualization of great feelings and ideas.

It was listed as one of the best anime releases of 2019 along with other excellent anime.
I consider the first episodes to be very important, as it is like the impulse that motivates us to watch a complete series. I will summarize the chapter. Dororo begins strong, a man is sitting outside while a woman is inside giving birth. We discover that the man is called or makes himself be called "Daigo". He goes to a temple where he meets an old priest, who tells him that to abandon Buddha to give in to the demons is to be on the side of evil. Daigo without yielding murders the priest, who doubts whether his prayers to Buddha were of any use. We see how Daigo makes a pact with the demons in exchange for his land being prosperous so that he can have the fame and power he wants. The scene of the birth of the baby is taken up again, but something happens. Lightning strikes, and the mark on Daigo's forehead shines.
We see the others scared but the mother happy, Daigo wants to see the baby and he sees something incredible: a baby without limbs, skin, eyes, nose, nothing, but it is alive. Daigo realizes that this was the treatment of the demons. Daigo demands that his wife must become pregnant again to bring in another heir. He asks the old woman who was there to get rid of the baby. She leaves it in a canoe and we see how a monster is behind her. A blind old man defeats this monster. We also see a scene of a man making wooden prostheses, which seems like a benevolent act on his part.
A girl (or boy, we don't really know at the time) appears, selling items in a village. This girl is Dororo, who gives the name of the anime. Some rather corpulent men confront her because it seems she was selling items that she should take care of, realizing that a bandit so to speak. As she runs away from these guys who are chasing her, she manages to hide for a short time and finds a little dog. The men find her and beat her. As they try to kill the girl, they notice a young man looking at nothing, without any expression. A monster appears... Mud? Mud? Garbage? This monster devours men and Dororo tries to escape but the devil catches her.
The young man saves her and defeats the demon with some daggers he holds in his arms. When he defeats the monster, Dororo helps the young man to put his prosthesis in his arms, asking him many things. The young man seems to collapse and his face falls off while Dororo looks at him in terror. The skin of the young man's face regenerates. Daigo is in the sanctuary where he made the deal, quite confused. We see the mother at the beginning with her other son, and then we also see the man with the prostheses on another battlefield, calling out the name "Hyakkimaru". We return to the scene of Dororo with the young man with the new face and that is the end of the episode.
It really is a chapter that leaves us with too much intrigue and desire to know more, what is going to happen, why everything happens and what will happen to the others. I feel that it begins excellently and is a good way to give the viewer that touch of curiosity in the development.
The development seems to me very good, it starts strong and they show us little by little the struggles that Hyakkimaru and Dororo go through. The atmosphere in the anime is quite turbid and violent, where there were high levels of poverty, is called Sengoku Era between the fifteenth and seventeenth centuries. Although the anime is called that way, the one that stands out the most is Hyakkimaru, since he has to fight against different demons to recover his body parts having to kill 48 demons because of a pact made by his father.
It is an adventure of self-discovery for them, as Hyakkimaru learns to speak, to cope and to appreciate the people he trusts. Dororo learns to fight without lying, a very important support for Hyakkimaru. Fights are very well done, they are not something that just comes out of the blue.
The presentation of the characters and their history is very good, we know the past of each one and what they had to go through to get to the point where they are. The two protagonists are incredibly compatible and we can feel it. It's incredible how Hyakkimaru, even though he doesn't have any senses, can perceive if a person is bad or not, because that's why he lets Dororo be with him, because he feels that he is a pure person.
Everything fits very well, we see how our young protagonist together with the little one are growing mutually. Hyakkimaru is much more human than the villains who appear. The secondary characters are also excellent and are not left in the background, as they fulfill their role in the plot. The villains are perfect, well elaborated and their essence of evil is evident. In my opinion, a good general development.
The characters in general are good. The secondary characters contribute a lot to the plot. <Jukai appears as a father figure in Hyakkimaru's life. He offers him prosthetics and teaches him basics. He becomes attached to the young man as he lives with him. He teaches him to fight with sword and the daggers in his arms so that he can go out into a world full of violence and demons. Mio, although it appears little, is important for the development of the young man to empathize and discover feelings beyond, in addition to helping our duo and orphaned children. Tahomaru, the protagonist's younger brother, is a spiteful being to his older brother as his mother feels guilt for what happened to her older son. Tahomaru becomes cruel as the story progresses to redemption. Others appear, but talking about them would be eternal, however, all are worth it as soon as they appear in the series.
Dororo is an excellent protagonist, although overshadowed by Hyakkimaru in terms of attention to the spectator, she does not fail to give us memorable moments and support for Hyakkimaru in his struggle to regain his life. She is a brave, direct and quite intelligent girl. Quite mature because life made her stand on her own feet from a very young age, the emotional and character development she shows us is good.
Hyakkimaru is basically the main focus where the plot turns. This boy, not having fundamental body parts, cannot hear, see or smell anything, however he can perceive the energy of people to know if they are good or bad, thus he also detects the demons. By not showing emotions physically he seems to be a cold being, but internally he is someone who suffers a lot, and is very combative. It is a development of his personality, character and reasons to keep fighting.
Daigo is the main antagonist. He is really well elaborated, with a thirst for pride, power and incredible self-centeredness, putting the life of his first-born son with little value as long as he has the power he wants. He is quite cold in the presence of his first son, and is the main cause of Tahomaru's hatred for his older brother. Trying to change his destiny in vain, we see how he is healing his cowardly side little by little, making him an excellent villain with an excellent ending.
I'm not really the biggest fan of the animation in this series, I feel that it declines a little bit as the anime progresses, but it's not visually annoying. It's all run by MAPPA studio, which has animated work like Yuri! On Ice and Banana Fish (as well as animating the latest season of Shingeki no Kyojin).
The choreography, landscapes, anatomical details are very well done, the presence of the characters is very well drawn. I don't like the movements as they are sometimes mechanical, so to speak, but I don't dislike them either, since traditional anime is not that different. They make good use of the color palette, giving it a somewhat dark and gray atmosphere, good use of the planes at precise moments and correct angles to show what the characters feel. I have no major complaints about it.
The first Opening comes from the band Queen Bee, the song is called Kaen. It has a pleasant rhythm and quite melancholic lyrics. I really feel that it encompasses very much the anime that is directed. The animation of this opening is very good, it transmits us what the characters feel, the adventure they carry out and the turbulent environment where they are.
The first ending comes by Amazarashi, the song is called Sayonara Gokko. It fulfills the cliché of a moving opening and a slow, somewhat sad ending. The animation looks like basic single-color drawings, as if they were just strokes. Really good, it transmits pleasant images, a slow rhythm, and really several emotions.
The second opening is brought by Aian Kung-Fu Generation, a rock band that has really made songs for several anime considered legendary, such as Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist and Naruto. The song is named after the anime, "Dororo". It has a lively rhythm, quite nice in my opinion, and an animation that leaves us in a lot of intrigue about what will happen in this second half of the story. Really good, that does not provoke to jump it in personal opinion.
The ending number 2 comes from the artist Eve, with the theme Yamiyo. It has a contrast with the opening that it presents us, since it is quite slow and with a melody that brings us melancholy. The lyrics are a bit sad but with a pretty nice message, it really fits very well with what the whole plot communicates and it's very good.
Conclusion
Dororo is an excellent anime, it has a peculiar plot, and it develops the characters in a very precise and not forced way. It contains very well constructed emotional moments that make us empathize with the characters and even understand them in some way. I feel that it encompasses a lot of sentimentality in an appropriate way, as it makes us feel some pity for the duo, but we are surprised by its strength, both physically and emotionally.
The dualities and contrasts between good and evil are presented in a very good way, since we observe souls that let themselves be carried away by demons and others that fight against them. The secondary characters are not taken to the background or are ignored in any way, since they are an important pillar for the development of the story and have some key moments in the plot and in the life of the main characters, and moreover, it ends well. I recommend this anime.

Many years ago, Japan was going through a stage of pestilence, famine and death everywhere, the lands seemed cursed by demons for not bearing any fruit and the sky was always gray but never a drop of water came out of them, a horrendous decade for its inhabitants. The Lord of Daigo, expecting a miracle from the Buddha, was forced to make a pact with the twelve demons, they could take what was from him but they would prosper his land and his kingdom.
Years later, the Lord of Daigo was expecting a son, his wife bravely towards her effort to bring the child to the world while the Lord, looked towards the Infernal Room where he had made the deal, with a mark of X on his forehead that left the demons, to let him know that he was marked by them. At the time of his son's birth, a lightning bolt appeared and struck the boy, the head of a nearby Buddha was detached and disappeared and the boy... He was born without eyes, without ears, none of his limbs and without skin, but incredibly still alive.
The lord knew that that was his pay, he was glad that now everything would be fine for his land, he sent the boy away, to die far from his land and hoped that his land would become fertile and blessed by demons, leaving the child back... Until the little one returns to look for his parts given to the demons years later.
I found Dororo interesting with its main story, every time I saw it, it caught my attention more, more than anything because of how Hyakkimaru adapted to his new members and senses, it is a story of how a person is born little by little, really charming and somewhat emotional.
The story focuses on a country full of famine and it is highlighted quite a lot, the bad conditions that the inhabitants of each town live and how they crush each other for survival, it shows you the cruelty of the human being due to hunger and I really doubt that go get an anime, movie, series or book that deals with this topic better than Dororo.
The only thing that may have bothered me is the opinion of the characters in this regard that Hyakkimaru recovered his body; or at least the missing parts, they said to leave that as it was and not to ruin the prosperous kingdom that there was, but nobody put themselves in the position of the boy who was born with nothing more than the will to live, it seemed to me a very annoying act and selfish.
But well, it is a good anime, it focuses more on the story than anything else, the animation is not bad but it is not from the other world, the only thing that did not seem to me at the animation and music level was the first opening, I do not know, was not suitable for me. But I invite you to see Dororo, an anime that deals with demons, poverty and the joy of living, fresh from 2019, I hope you liked the post, we read on another occasion.

So my latest review now out. Just finished binging the whole series and here is my take on this Osamu Tezuka classic from the 60's (The manga that is)
›Dororo – If This is Not The Years Best Anime, I Will be Shocked@dlstudios2570d
The title has already tipped my hand as to what I think of Dororo, but this year it has been, without question, the best show I've seen so far. The story of a father who sold the body of his newborn in order to save a dying nation, the child barely escapes his fate as the final demon fails to take the last of his body. Given artificial limbs and a name, Hyakkimaru is now on a quest to find the demons who took his body and defeat them in order to get it all back.
Dororo, the titular character is a young child who befriends Hyakkimaru after their life is saved by him. Upon saving Dororo, which was purely coincidental to why he was there, Dororo sees the carved mask covering Hyakkimaru face fall off and the skin regrows on him. Opting to follow Hyakkimaru around, it becomes obvious pretty quickly that the boy can't see, hear, speak, or anything of the sort leading Dororo to wonder how he can even fight.
This is where a potential flaw of the show comes up, depending on your own suspension of disbelief. He is able to 'see' ones life force as a sort of color and learned to distinguish small and edible signs of life such as plants and fish to eat from human life, and even demons and ghouls. Where things get a bit weird is how he is able to fight by bouncing of things he can't clearly see, such as the fractured structure of the bridge in the first fight. He can't feel anything, so there isn't too much of a sensible way this scene could play out. Paired with how quickly he sometimes adapts to acquiring a new piece of his body back, the show can test your willingness to buy into it. That said, I had little trouble since, a more realistic or sensible approach to the ideas would either leave the show impossible or pad it out to an absurdly long run. That said, I think the show really does go about this in the best way it could have and doesn't really leave me with any problems when trying to enjoy the show.
For the longest while, most of the show is shown from the perspective of the only character of the duo that can talk, Dororo. You learn a lot about their back story and motivations, Dororo being a pretty clever kid who, at times, can get a bit greedy and wanting pay for slaying ghouls and demons. This works well in the shows favor as it slowly builds up the view others have of Hyakkimaru, and very slowly starts to show you what kind of person he really is. It can't do this through words, as he can't speak, and his expressions are pretty limited due to his eyes being false as well. But you get a lot out of his reactions to things only he is able to see, such as the aura of demons and ghouls, and even how his actions change as he sees aura's change or new ones that confuse him. Backed up by just the right amount of narration in the beginning, Hyakkimaru becomes an extremely lively character despite never speaking for most of the shows run.
The growth of Hyakkimaru as a character really is the best part of the show. This is one of those characters who are in a constant state of having life just shit on him. Even as he gets his body back, often this causes things to go wrong or it happens at terrible times. For example, when he recovers his hearing the first things he hears are a rainstorm and people crying. Despite all that, Hyakkimaru is driven by an intense will to survive, but considering how much horrible things have happened to him there is a growing story of him turning into a monster (Metaphorically, it is anime so that's something that needs to be pointed out). This works well with the moral quandary of his quest, as he is essentially revoking the contract with the demons to protect and make the land of Diago prosperous. As he recovers his body, the blessings of the land fade and the people begin to suffer.
The conflict the show builds towards is Hyakkimaru trying to recover his body, and Diago trying to have his own son killed in order to save his lands. Throw in a mother living in depression over what happened to her son and a Brother who has to choose what to do, you almost don't have anyone in this show that is truly a bad person, just people fighting for what they feel is right and struggling with the consequences of their decisions.
The show also knows exactly how to hit you right in your emotions. Not even halfway through the show, I won't spoil the episode itself, I was hit with one of the most heartbreaking moments I have seen in an anime, and from that point forward you really do start to see the changes in Hyakkimaru begin. Even seeing him deal with getting his senses back, like how much he is thrown off in both fights and his general interactions with people, do wonders in getting you to care about not only his quest for his body, but worry for his overall mental well being.
We haven't even gotten to the actual fights, which are some of the best I have seen in anime for a long time. The fights are amazingly well animated, and many of them are clever in how Hyakkimaru has to overcome them. Without giving to many details, one fight all Hyakkimaru is capable of seeing is a solid cloud of Red because of the demons dark cloud envelopes the area, meaning for all practical purposes Hyakkimaru is completely blind to his foe, and is having to finally adjust to his sense of hearing in order to make it through the fight. A few tricks he was teaching himself to adjust come into play, though I'll again avoid spoiling it.
This isn't to say Dororo is perfect, there are a couple of issues that crop up. One of the more notable ones is how often they seem to be able to move forward because luck just kind of favors them. As much as I adore the traveling priest, the best of the side cast in the show, far too often he just kind of shows up to help out, and it starts to feel a bit too convenient after a while. It's true that whenever he is there he adds a lot to the plot and giving the Dororo, as well as the audience, just enough context to add an incredible amount to the narrative, but it doesn't stop many of his appearances from feeling a little too coincidental. Luck plays far too much into a story about a man's drive and determination for my liking, and it is one of the few aspects of the show that can take away from the overall enjoyment.
The other is the animation isn't that consistent outside of combat. It's common to see in anime these days, but it's clear that between fights and major scenes that there was some cost-cutting to the animation. More then a few times seeing characters simply move around seems a little awkward. It may never be at a time when it's going to distract from the more important bits of an episode, but it is noticeable all the same.
I know nothing about the original Manga or Anime of Dororo, but this adaptation is absolutely stunning and stands entirely on its own. From what I gather it's just another telling of the story, so that should be expected. There are very few flaws in it, and so much of what it does is amazing. It's really rare to find a show that, from beginning to end, is this good in so many ways. I cannot recommend this show enough, and once enough time has passed I am sure it's likely to end up as one of my favorite anime of all time.
This weekend I'm taking a break from binge-watching/reading Chinese manga/light novel/animes and is temporarily back to watching Animes (Japan ftw! XD).
I've downloaded a couple of Anime series since January of this year and waited for months before the series is near to end so that I can watch all of it in one sitting. One of those series is Dororo which I believe has only 24 episodes and will end by tomorrow (or Tuesday for the English sub XD).
Anyway, as someone who haven't read the manga nor watched the 1969 version (Jesus that's 50 years ago) of this series, I really do think that the 2019 version is a decent one. Not that great but also not that bad.
Plot~wise, I will give it a 9.0 out of 10 just because I am a little biased with this kind of plot and I really do dig the whole 12 demons taking at least one body part of the MC's body and his straight-forward goal of getting his body back 1 body-part & demon at a time.
What I hate though is how it is executed. It seems to me that the MC has tremendous luck that almost always the demons he encounters is always one of those 12 (or maybe there are only 12 demons in that world?! Did I miss the explanation for this? XD).
I also am not satisfied with the battle scenes as I was expecting epic battles between the MC and the demons. Instead we were given battles along the lines of a giant blob of mud vs the MC, a salamander-like demon vs the MC, a moth-like demon vs the MC, etc... Idk I'm just not digging the whole animal-like demon thingy mostly because they make the demons look weak. I was honestly expecting the demons to have some sort of high-intelligence and not be defeated that easily.
Another thing is that, am I the only one who thinks that Dororo is pretty annoying?! That tomboyish little girl is just too reckless and honestly I feel she talks way toooooo much (or maybe her voice is just what makes it annoying? Idk XD).
These last years of anime have been pretty good to fans of older material. What was once considered outdated is brand new again. As we kick off 2019, our first throwback of the year is a Tezuka classic, Dororo. I've already read the manga, so I more or less have a grasp of the events that take place in the story.
The first striking change in this version is obviously the character designs. It's decent, but do we have to go through the motions of getting rid of the old manga art-style every-time we adapt something from the 50s, 60s and 70s? Unfortunately, we have to, in order to make it more commercially viable since most anime fans today can't even dare to look at Tezuka's old Disney inspired artwork. I'm definitely not saying that strict adherence to the source material is the only way to go, since there's definitely room for alternative interpretations. However, most design updates done to these old series nowadays scream “we want the modern audience” rather than “we are trying out something new”.
My other pet peeve is that Hyakkimaru didn't say a single word here when he was already talking at this point in the manga. This new adaptation is trying to portray him as the cool and silent protagonist who's only going to talk when needed, As a fan of the manga though, this is definitely not the Hyakkimaru I know. The limbless Pinocchio I've known is a talkative one who would often act smug and tease Dororo. The petty arguments between them not only help lift the mood up for the reader, they also contribute to their friendship. I'll refrain from saying anything more since I do want to see how their relationship is going to play out with a mute Hyakkimaru.
On the positive side, I thought the colour palette looked good. It has this somber mood which matches the type of series that Dororo is, without abusing on the filters Moreover, the action scene involving Hyakkimaru and the demon was wonderfully animated, but it's also only first episode, and I wouldn't count on MAPPA to keep the quality up all the way. Here's a 51 years old spoilers for the series; Dororo is a tomboy, and I think her voice actor nailed the ambiguity of her gender pretty well. She's also blushing in the ED, so it shouldn't be that much of a surprise when she's revealed to be a girl.
To be honest, I didn't think the first episode was all that great, contrary to how the anime community is reacting. The visuals of the OP and ED were good enough, but the music did nothing for me, so I think I'll be skipping them every episode. I also suppose my familiarity with the source material means that I'm expecting way more than just a standard adaptation. I guess my problem with a lot of these anime reboots these days is that they too often do away with the more jovial aspects of retro manga. The tone is often too serious for their own good, which is exactly the vibe I'm getting from Dororo.
It's not to say that I didn't enjoy this episode like everyone else, but I also think the anime community should be a little more critical before blindly praising anything that has a cool style. To be precise, my concerns are with this adaptation, not the Dororo series in general. I want to be surprised by what this new adaptation has to offer. If they're resurrecting a 51 years old property, I'm hoping it's because they have something unique to bring to the table. Nice production values is a start, but it's hardly enough for me to declare it anime of the season.
On the other hand, it is only the first episode after all, and I don't want to get too ahead of myself. I'll wait for the next episodes to come out before I give Dororo (2019) any additional thoughts.
