Hola amigos de mi querida Comunidad Hive, reciban Bendiciones. Hoy les he traído una interesante película de la verdadera Amistad existente entre un Humano y un Alienígena, se trata de: ENEMIGO MIO 1985, un drama de Ciencia Ficción, basada en la Novela homónima del Escritor Estadounidense Barry B. Longyear, dirigido por el fallecido Director Wolfgang Petersen, Producida por Twentieth Century Fox. Protagonizada por Dennis Quaid, Louis Gossett, Jr, y Bumper Robinson.

¿De qué trata?

Esta película inicia con una guerra espacial entre Humanos y los Drac una especie de Reptiles humanoides (quienes se reproducen de forma asexual), luego de un enfrentamiento la nave del Piloto Willis Davidge (Dennis Quaid) es derribada cayendo en un planeta desconocido y hostil, logrando salir con vida ve como es derribada la nave de un Drac. y decide ir a cazarlo, luego de una lucha el humano cae prisioneros, luego de una lluvia de meteoritos, hasta que deciden ayudarse uno al otro y así sobrevivir a las situaciones peligrosas que se les presentan.

Opinión Personal

Aunque la Ciencia Ficción, no es mi género favorito, ENEMIGO MIO, es una película que trae a mi mente muchos recuerdos inolvidables al lado de mis padres, y aunque tenía muchísimos años que no la veía, me llamo la atención, es interesante verla nuevamente, con unos efectos especiales creíble para el año de 1985, pero lo más importante es su contenido el mensaje que deja es precioso, tanto la actuación de Denis Quaid como el Piloto Willis Davidge y Louis Gossett, Jr. como el Drac Jeriba Shigan (Jerry) estuvieron a la altura.

Es una película entretenida nos habla del odio que sentían los dos, un humano y un extraterrestre, se ven obligados a trabajar juntos para sobrevivir contra las dificultades climáticas extremas del planeta. Juntos aprenden mucho sobre sí mismos y sobre su enemistad mutua. En esta película se plantea el racismo y la xenofobia, quizás por el aspecto físico de ambos.

Poco a poco se van compenetrando, uniendo fuerzas para evitar peligros como la lluvia de meteoritos, o monstruos en tierras movedizas, entre otros. Entablando una relación de respeto, amor, amistad, unión y honestidad, con el tiempo se afianza su amistad y lograran salir adelante. Al final llegan a una comprensión mutua y aceptación. Y aunque no son amigos al comienzo, terminan formando un profundo vínculo.

En cuanto a la ambientación del planeta es extraordinaria, estuvo acorde con zonas y paisajes desolados. La banda sonora original estuvo arreglada por Maurice Jarre.

La amistad de un ser humano puede presentar desafíos interesantes, ya que los humanos y los extraterrestres tienen diferentes perspectivas culturales, biológicas y cognitivas. Sin embargo, si pueden superar los obstáculos, una amistad entre especies puede tener el potencial de profundizar nuestra comprensión mutua, promover el respeto por la diversidad y abrirnos a nuevas formas de pensamiento y creatividad.

What is it about?

Personal Opinion

Although Science Fiction is not my favorite genre, ENEMY OF MINE, is a film that brings to my mind many unforgettable memories with my parents, and although it had many years that I had not seen it, I called my attention, it is interesting to see it again, with some credible special effects for the year 1985, but more importantly is its content the message it leaves is precious, both the performance of Denis Quaid as Pilot Willis Davidge and Louis Gossett, Jr. as the Drac Jeriba Shigan (Jerry) were up to the task.

It is an entertaining film about the hatred that the two, a human and an alien, are forced to work together to survive against the extreme weather conditions of the planet. Together they learn a lot about themselves and their mutual enmity. Racism and xenophobia are raised in this film, perhaps because of the physical appearance of the two.

Little by little they get along, joining forces to avoid dangers such as meteor showers, or monsters in quicksand, among others. They establish a relationship of respect, love, friendship, union and honesty, and with time their friendship strengthens and they manage to move forward. In the end they come to a mutual understanding and acceptance. And although they are not friends at first, they end up forming a deep bond.

As for the setting of the planet is extraordinary, it was in keeping with desolate areas and landscapes. The original soundtrack was arranged by Maurice Jarre.

Human friendship can present interesting challenges, as humans and extraterrestrials have different cultural, biological and cognitive perspectives. However, if they can overcome the obstacles, an interspecies friendship can have the potential to deepen our understanding of each other, promote respect for diversity and open us to new ways of thinking and creativity.

Hollywood blockbusters are medium usually not that suitable for conveying important messages about the state of the world. That doesn’t mean that, on occasion, such messages can be found in commercially ambitious films, whether by intent or accident, but such films tend to fail at the box office. One of the more spectacular examples is Enemy Mine, 1985 science fiction epic directed by Wolfgang Petersen.

The film is based on the eponymous novella by Barry Longyear, highly regarded literary work that won Nebula and Hugo Award. The plot begins in 2092, when the humanity managed to put divisions and wars on Earth behind it only found new war after encountering Drac, reptilian race of aliens. Protagonist, played by Dennis Quaid, is Willis “Will” Davidge, Bilateral Terran Alliance fighter pilot who shoots down Drac fighter only to crash land on planet called Fyrin IV. There he realises that the enemy pilot has survived too, but his attempt to kill him fails and Davidge ends as prisoner of a Drac named Jeriba Shigan (played by Louis Gossett, Jr.). As times goes by, both Davidge and Jeriba (or “Jerry” as Davidge calls him) realise that they can tackle lack of food, bad climate and hostile fauna only if they learn to disregard their difference and begin working together. What begins as practical arrangement gradually evolves in genuine friendship. Jeriba and Davidge begin to learn as much as possible about their each other’s language, customs and culture. Their relationship ends when Jeriba, whose species multiplies asexually, dies during childbirth. Davidge takes care of a child named Zammis (played by Bumper Robinson), but new challenge comes with arrival of slave-hunting Scavengers led by Stubbs (played by Brion James).

Basic idea behind this film – mortal enemies forced by circumstances to cooperate for the sake of mutual survival – isn’t new and was used many times before, most notably in classic films like The Forty-First or Hell in the Pacific. Using it in futuristic space setting might have looked ludicrous, but experienced and talented German director Wolfgang Petersen (who has replaced Richard Loncraine in the middle of troubled production) makes it work. This is mostly to good use of large budget, which manifests in great special effects depicting space battles in a way that make them believable even after nearly four decades. Alien world, with scenes shot on Canary Islands locations and Bavarian studios in Munich, is depicted with great deal of detail. Veteran composer Maurice Jarre adds interesting and mostly effective music score.

But the greatest asset of the film is the cast. For most of the film there are only two characters on screen and that requires good acting work. Dennis Quaid provides it, flawlessly transforming his character from arrogant fighter jock and jingoistic maniac into responsible human being, dedicated friend and even more dedicated parent. His interplay with Louis Gossett Jr. is great, despite Oscar-awarded actor being burdened with heavy makeup. Gossett, despite human-centric limitations of his alien character, adds little touches that make Jeriba convincing. One of the techniques is unusual speech pattern, as well as use fictional Drac language which is, by accident or not, based on Russian spoken in reverse.

Good work Petersen and the rest of the crew have done for most of the film is nearly ruined by the last third, which looks like someone has tried to artificially add action to simple and natural survival story. This is actually what happened, because producers insisted that at least one scene must take part in mine, because the title could be interpreted as such. That led to mine being 19th Century-style operation that relies on slave labour instead of futuristic technology. The result is anachronistic and unconvincing, and the actual finale looks utterly rushed. The general impression is, however, rescued by film’s message, at least if the film is seen through the prism of Cold War which was near its zenith. Enemy Mine preached abandoning conflict and embracing cooperation and the film authors, consciously or unconsciously, hoped that USA and USSSR would ultimately follow example of its fictional protagonists and find the way to share planet together. Enemy Mine, sadly, sank at the box office and became one of the more obscure pieces of 1980s Hollywood science fiction, but its message appears to be relevant for the world today.

Hola amigos de la comunidad cinéfila por excelencia, quiero compartir con ustedes mi extraordinaria experiencia al ver de nuevo esta película, la cual vi cuando era un niño y quizás por eso no tenía un concepto muy claro del mensaje implícito en su trama. Se trata del filme “Enemigo Mío”, una producción que data del año 1985 y que cuenta con las actuaciones estelares de Dennis Quaid y Louis Gossett Jr. Es inevitable que lleguen recuerdos de la infancia, al ver el transcurrir de las escenas, en las que dos seres de diferentes mundos y culturas, se enfrentan en una guerra por colonizar los planetas con mayores riquezas naturales; pero no todo se queda en esa lucha, sino que existe un odio y rechazo entre sí, pero es más notable por parte del humano “Willis”, que del Dracon “Jerry”; quienes luego de destruir las naves de sus respectivos amigos, caen en un planeta desolado y ahora, paradójicamente, deben unir sus fuerzas para sobrevivir ante los peligros que allí existen.

Despite being separated, when Willis recovers he returns to rescue the little Dracs and finally fulfills his promise to take care of him and bring him back home. It's an impressive story and although the effects are a bit rough (due to the era) the plot is involving, the changing context from enmity to brotherhood is a fascinating journey. The little ones need the care and guidance of their parents and it is indeed captivating to see two races that, being "quasi-natural" enemies, then become each other's greatest hope for continued existence with a new vision. The message it impresses is the transformation from enemies to friends, it's all in the eye of the beholder who sees reality as it is in essence. I have seen again the values that this film transmits and it has moved me. It has been an excellent experience, which I share with you today.

A pesar de ser separados, cuando Willis se recupera regresa para rescatar al pequeño Dracs y finalmente cumple su promesa de cuidarlo y levarlo de vuelta a casa. Es una historia impresionante y a pesar de que los efectos son algo toscos (debido a la época) la trama resulta envolvente, el cambiante contexto de enemistad a hermandad es un viaje fascinante.
