  1. Entergalactic (2022)@omokhafue491d

I was patiently waiting for the time, the moment I'd have to motivation or the spark to write about this. It was sometime around 2022, I had just graduated high school and you know,I was having a mini holiday without the idea of school books to myself. I can't believe I genuinely thought reading and studying in university is going to be so much less than how I read in high school. Oh,how I wish I could go back in time for a bit,sit myself down for like an hour or two and legit warn me what's to come, how it's going to be and all that.

Alright, enough of that. Let's move on to this movie and talk about it. The first thing you need to know is, it's an animated movie. Not so many people like animations and I have no idea why. Sometimes,it pisses me off when someone can't see the beauty in an animation, calling it a kids show when you can literally see a wild shooting or sensitive content scene in the show. But hey, people have their preferences. I don't just like when they criticize what other people enjoy watching. I'm literally speaking from experience cause it's wild out here y'all.

Alright, Entergalactic, Entergalactic and Entergalactic. Is it an English word? No,it isn't. But does it have an meaning in the show? Sort of. The Netflix show,"Entergalatic" seems to refer to a state of being or a realm that's beyond the ordinary, perhaps even cosmic or otherworldly.

055a44aca069fd289488cc8c999fc156.jpg Source Entergalactic is a Netflix 2022 animated movie and it revolves around the life of Jabari. Jabari is a young, talented street artist in New York City who's on the cusp of something incredible. He's just landed a sweet apartment and a partnership with a comic book company to turn his graffiti character, Mr. Rager, into a full-fledged comic series.

Fresh off a breakup with his girlfriend, Carmen, Jabari's determined to focus on his art and career, with encouragement from his buddies Jimmy and Kyra. He meets Meadow, a photographer and his new neighbor, a cool, stylish, slightly mysterious presence that kinda throws a wrench in his "focus" plan.

They start bumping into each other. Random encounters happen, like at the laundromat or on the street. Jabari is being advised by his friend Nadia, a quirky art curator, on how to woo this fine woman. It's clear there's a connection, but Jabari's hesitant to jump into anything serious so soon after his breakup.

They bond over shared interests – art, music, city living – and their individual creative passions. Their first date is actually at the MoMA . He finds out that she is actually pretty cool and that he is a really good artist.

Things get complicated as Jabari’s career takes off and jealousy starts to emerge from Meadow. But as she shows more, the art does too. Jabari's really trying to balance his feelings for Meadow with the demands of his work, and the pressure is mounting. There are a few hiccups and misunderstandings. All this happens while new music starts playing in the background. These songs are symbolic of the current state of their relationship.

Eventually, Jabari realizes he doesn't want to mess this up with Meadow. He's starting to acknowledge that love is like art: a process. After some emotional ups and downs, they decide to really explore their feelings for each other. But things almost got ruined after Meadow thought Jabari was sleeping with his ex-girlfriend (Carmen). Meadow quickly gets over and they finally start dating.

051f03dac587c83d72024033a1732662.jpg Source The climax hits during a massive gallery showing of Jabari's Mr. Rager comic book. It's a huge success, a culmination of his artistic journey. But the real triumph is that Jabari realizes he's found something even more important: a genuine connection with Meadow.

The story ends with Jabari embracing love, vulnerability, and the chaos of life and his passion for Meadow. With each step, he comes closer to her and closer to heaven.

I watched this movie five times! Five good times! That's how much I liked it. The sound track is incredible and the animation is so so cool. I really enjoyed watching this. It's been a while I've seen it. Might just rewatch again or something. But asides all that, it's a good show and it's worth your time, it's worth watching. Another thing; I just want to let you know that it's not suitable for kids under like 16 or something. They're some crazy scene that I wouldn't consider suitable for kids.

Alright, that's it. Thanks for readingg.

    ENGLISH

One of the reasons why I have always defended animation as a powerful method for telling stories is because unlike "our reality" it is not governed by any type of natural law, in other words: his artistic and narrative possibilities are unlimited.

    Entergalactic-881435091-large.jpg Source

Of course, by this I don't mean that its counterpart (live action) is "limited", in fact, from the early days film and television have shown that with enough ingenuity (and the right resources) you can execute any idea you want as you please.

However, there is an indescribable romanticism in the animated format, which can elevate a simple story that would pass without pain or glory under any other format to a much more expressive and forceful plane.

For me the latter perfectly explains why "Entergalactic" works despite being a fairly traditional romcom in structural terms.

Directed by Fletcher Moules, Entergalactic was originally conceived as an animated series, but in the end, Netflix decided to turn it into a movie, something that for many may be positive and for others not so much...

Under the production of Kid Cudi (a fairly well-known rapper), Entergalactic is a piece that accompanies an album of the same name, turning the film into a kind of musical project that gives meaning to his tracklist.

Although this could limit the target of the film (and it is undeniable that it permeates every area of its aesthetic) it is important to recognize that we do not have to appreciate Kid Cudi's music to appreciate Entergalactic, but at the same time it is something that can make the experience much more more pleasant.

In essence, it is a classic romantic story where we follow a young artist who, after moving into the apartment of his dreams, finds love in an unexpected place.

While Entergalactic does not revolutionize or deconstruct what it means to be a romcom, it is a warm and optimistic representation of everything that meeting your soulmate entails, presented from a perspective that is easy to identify with, and uses its animation style and the recurring use of psychedelic elements to enhance the most abstract aspects of love, in a positive and negative sense.

    entergalactic-blogroll-1664234430891.jpg Source

As someone who has always been obsessed with hip hop culture, it's easy to gravitate towards the way Entergalactic decides to implement all of its elements, not only when it comes to the music, but also with respect to the way they perform. dressing their characters, the dynamics they maintain with each other, and the constant references to other artists or designers like Virgil Abloh or Kaws.

It is not a perfect film, the dialogues can be inconsistent and the voice acting of Cudi in the role of Jabari leaves a lot to be desired in very specific moments, apart from this, I must admit that it makes me feel many things, and in the end, this is the goal of art.

  3. Entergalactic (2022) review: Animation peaking once again.@richardalexis1350d

All the screenshots in this post were taken directly from the film by me

    Separador.png

Although Kid Cudi had a quite busy year within the confines of the seventh art this last year's (with a secondary role in the great film Don't Look Up and a leading role in "X"), Entergalactic is probably his most striking project, Originally presented as an animated series that would be accompanied by an album by the American rapper, it seems that some conflicts in the production end up turning it into a 1 hour and a half film with many positive aspects and other negative aspects that are difficult to ignore.

    Screenshot_2022-10-17-08-11-50-722_org.videolan.vlc.jpg

It's hard to be unbiased, as Entergalactic is a wacky mix of many things that fascinate me: An animation style and aesthetic inspired by Sony's modern classic "Into the Spider-Verse," a psychedelic rap setting music provided by Scott Mescudi, as well as constant nods to sneaker culture and the late fashion icon Virgil Abloh.

Beyond this, at least in terms of narrative, Entergalactic is a much more traditional film than expected, and can easily be defined as a romantic story where two young people from New York meet, fall in love and then suffer a couple of setbacks along the way. The film constantly introduces us to elements of questionable necessity that, at least superficially, do not play an important role in the plot, she is a well-known photographer with works established in several galleries in New York, while he has just got a major deal with a comic book company interested in his "Mr. Rager" character.

    Screenshot_2022-10-17-08-10-06-734_org.videolan.vlc.jpg

Personally, despite the fact that the inclusion of these backgrounds feels disconcerting at first, it serves progressively to give three-dimensionality to each of his characters, who are essentially souls trying to give meaning to their lives.

However, although I appreciate the visual spectacle that is accompanied by the showing of their hobbies and careers (especially those surreal fragments where Mr. Rager comes to life), the strongest parts of the whole work are those in which the relationship between Jabari and Meadow (played by Scott himself and Jessica Williams, respectively) takes the lead in the adventure.

    Screenshot_2022-10-17-08-10-22-422_org.videolan.vlc.jpg

This is not to say that the universe created by Intergalactic lacks substance, on the contrary, in an hour and a half it manages to include a surprising number of secondary characters, who take full advantage of a curious cast where established artists such as Timothé Chalamet share screen with other figures such as Jaden Smith, Vanessa Hudgens, or Macoulay Coulkin.

Although Kid Cudi was the mastermind behind the project (and built a great album around him using the same name) we also cannot discredit the excellent work done by Fletcher Moules, who provides a great rhythm to the footage and knows how to repower its aesthetic language.

For those (like me) obsessed with the whole culture of rap and street wear, Entergalactic is an ode to everything that the movement represents, capable of at the same time, presenting an artistic relationship between two humans full of strengths and weaknesses.

    Screenshot_2022-10-17-08-11-30-291_org.videolan.vlc.jpg

Unfortunately, it is also quite evident that its change of format ended up throwing off many ideas, which seem to have a real importance within the film, but which end up being superfluous for its subsequent outcome. Most of these inclusions can be classified as part of his surreal nature (Starting with Mr. Rager) but although his presence is enjoyed, they end up being a very clear example of all the potential that was left behind.

The performances are a hit or miss, where some like Coulkin know how to shine with just a couple of others feel off even though they appear during a considerable portion of the film (as in the case of Vanessa Hudgens), at the same time, the script has its irregular moments where it ends up sinking them a little more.

    Screenshot_2022-10-17-08-10-29-495_org.videolan.vlc.jpg

In short, Intergalactic is a great film that can easily be part of the animation renaissance that we have been experiencing for a few years, it is creative, visually impressive, and knows how to give a fresh air to a story that we have seen many times.

    Separador.png

  4. Animation and music get along in: Entergalactic////La animación y la música se juntan en: Entergalactic@takeru2551364d

Entergalactic premiered three days ago on Netflix and this kind of stories are the ones that make me love animation more than any other way of telling a story, and this is because animation gives us the freedom to make dreams come true that in no way would look good in something live action. I said it recently and I'll say it every chance I get: netflix makes magic with animation. Whether it's anime, 3D, stop motion or cartoons, Netflix knows when to stick its hand in when it comes to producing animation, and Entergalactic is a perfect example.

    image.png

Kid Cudi and Jessica Williams are the main characters of this love story, but they are also joined by an amazing cast that includes Timothee Chalamet, Ty Dolla Sign, Vanessa Hudgens and other artists. In this story we follow Jabari and the beginning of his relationship with Meadow, his neighbor. Something really very quiet but at the same time very everyday that almost anyone can relate to in some way, a story to pass the time that works enough to keep you on track for the hour and a half that the movie lasts.

    image.png

Having said that, I have to admit that I was disappointed with the story. Coming from Kid Cudi and knowing his past, I thought it would touch on depression and talk more in depth about problems and insecurities, being a more introspective work than anything else, but the truth is that it falls halfway and decides to go for a love story that I understand that some people might be bored by it for being really very common.

However, there are times when the phrase "it's not what you tell, it's how you tell it" works, and in Entergalactic that phrase fits like a glove. I may be speaking from more of a fan's perspective at this point, but the soundtrack by Kid Cudi that falls perfectly with the scenes of the movie, becoming like a little music video clip at times (just like Imagine Dragons did with Arcane) was amazing and I enjoyed it very much. Besides this, it has a very similar style to one of my favorite movies, Into the spiderverse, thus feeling familiar and even a story that could coexist in the same universe as that movie.

    image.png

In short, Entergalactic is not something I would blindly recommend, but it is something I would recommend to any animation or music lover, being a quiet but entertaining film that can teach a thing or two when it comes to animation or telling a story that doesn't have many problems.
