  1. Escape Room - A Thought About Good Psychological Thrillers?@cinetv634d

On another episode of remarkable psychological thrillers of 2019, there’s one I’d like to factor in real quick. Like I’ve said before, I’m a bit of softie. There’s not too much I can stand when it comes to thrillers, horror and the likes. But there are sometimes that a script is so spectacular, it blows you out of your jelly-spined mind. When I saw the rating on this one, it was fairly better than most movies in this genre so I guess IMDB seemed to also think it’s pretty amazing to give it this rating. So yeah, presenting to you:

    Escape Room(2019)

Escape Room originally released on the 4th of January in the United States, is a 1 hour, 40 minutes horror/sci-fi film. It was directed by Adam Robitel and distributed by Sony Pictures.

And we move to a brief summary of the film. Six somewhat frustrated strangers from all works of life are offered what looks like the chance of a lifetime. Complete a series of puzzles to win $10,000. And so these six strangers travel to a mysterious building to experience the escape room. It starts out all fun and seemingly innocent, but soon enough, the escape room which should have been just games becomes a living nightmarish tale. Can they escape this sadistic game with their lives intact?

So, let me start by saying that when I watched the trailer of this film, it left Nothing much to be desired. It felt like a watered down version of Cube and a too-familiar storyline, so I was kind of put off till a somewhat boring day, when I happened to watch it with my family.

I liked the fact that they gave a little insight into the lives of the six people that participated in the escape room game. I guess they wanted us to know just how their lives were and why they saw this choice as the best opportunity for them. Of course, they didn’t know what was waiting. I loved how they worked together to solve the puzzles. It was clever and I was captivated by it, especially since the film makers shifted the narrative from different participants and how they meet their gruesome death to the value of out-of-the-box thinking and team work.

The script writing was also quite solid and enjoyable. It kind of made sense why the PG-13 approach was incorporated. I dislike the excessive gore in horror genres and I do not feel it would have added much to this movie anyway. The deaths were quite gruesome and nearly traumatizing, so you don’t need to worry if you’re the kind that is into sensational deaths. The puzzles themselves were well thought out and put together and I kept imagining how I would have tackled it if I were in that situation. Genius work, if you ask me.

The suspense and elements of surprise incorporated in the film did a lot for me. It helped to keep things lively so even when the movie became a bit predictable, it was done in a way that wasn’t bizarre or make you roll your eyes.

Only downside to this film for me was when I realized at the end that they were gearing in for a sequel when everything could have been wrapped up nicely. We already knew the behind the scenes at this point, so I didn’t think there was a need for a sequel. The sequel was out two years later and I haven’t seen that yet. If you have, you can tell me whether it’s worth a watch. But this first part on its own, played its role excellently.

Hope you enjoyed this. Have you seen the film, Escape Room?

  2. Mi opinion a "Escape Room"@shadowmyst1852d

    image.png

  5. Let's Talk about "ESCAPE ROOM" (a movie review)@tegoshei2430d

What's up beautiful people!? :) Have you ever watched the movie entitled, "Escape Room"?
Around a week ago, I and my younger cousins decided to watch a movie. We didn't have any specific things in mind for as long as it's under the horror or thriller genre. Well, it's a usual thing for us to do so. These kinds of movies are exciting especially if they're with a pinch of psychological/science aura to it. So, while scrolling for movies to watch, we all decided to choose this certain movie, Escape Room.

As most people already know "Escape Room" is a kind of game in which a group of people are trapped inside a room. These people are to find clues which will lead them to find the key to get out in a limited amount of time. I haven't tried it, but it seems an interesting game to play with friends. It'll somehow wake your inner "Sherlock Holmes/Shinichi Kudo" up.
Now, let's talk about the movie.

In the movie, six different people were given an invitation to play the game. They were all given a box as seen in the picture above which they have to somehow solve in order to see the invitation proper.
It's really interesting how the characters are very different from each other. You can somehow tell their personalities by the way the opened the boxes which were sent to them. Just to give an idea, let me describe the six players of the game.
    1. Zoey is a very silent or aloof type of person. She is brilliant, yet she's not very gifted in terms of social skills. 2. Ben is what I describe a "I don't want this.. it's so troublesome" type of person. 3. Amanda is a former soldier and is very skillful. 4. Mike is a fisherman. *(lol -- his character didn't really have a big impact on me, but it might be on you ^^)* 5. Danny is a nerd and is very passionate about escape rooms. 6. Jason... *(ugh~ I don't really like his character, tbh. He's so bossy that I just want to punch him in the face. oops)*
Upon reading the descriptions I made above, how do you think this group of people will play together? Will they have teamwork or will their individual personalities get in the way?

Well, it wouldn't really be a problem if it was just a normal type of escape room. However, the game that they're in is a matter of life and death. There are various types of room which are truly crazy like rooms with extreme temperatures. If they don't escape, they might get burned or frozen to death.
It's really cool how every room in the movie was designed... to think that they just entered a certain building. I and my younger cousins were so fascinated every time they escape and find themselves in another room.
As the game progresses, viewers will get to know the characters more and why they were chosen to join this crazy escape room.
If you want to get your adrenaline rush without moving, do watch this film! It's exciting and mind-blowing. Even my younger cousins (9-year old boy and 17-year old girl) enjoyed it a lot. Just ready yourself for what's about to happen!
All in all, I enjoyed this film and I can't wait for the second movie next year. I hope it's a good or perhaps better than this one. :)
Thanks for reading and see you again! (^_^)/

  6. Escape Room (2019 film): It's like Saw but with no gore@gooddream2504d

Escape Room is an interesting concept which i think quite obviously is based on the idea of being trapped in an escape room and you die if you can't get out.

    [source](http://www.impawards.com/2019/posters/escape_room_ver4.jpg)

So a group of rather annoying people who don't know eachother are thrust together in a room for what they believe is an escape room challenge of some sort with a prize of 10,000 dollars offered to the winner. After staying in the room for a long period of time they start to realize that no one is actually coming to retrieve them. When one person tries to leave and the door knob falls off they realize that the game has already begun and they are already in the escape room.

    [source](https://movieboozer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/escaperoom-660x330.jpg)

They quickly realize that this is no ordinary escape room as the various pitfalls that exist can actually hurt or kill the people involved. There are also several escape rooms, one after the other, and they are all extremely elaborate and of course deadly.

The film is entertaining but since the characters are all meant to be working together to a certain degree there is an awful lot of argumentative dialogue, some of which is repetitive and dumb like "What is this place?" and "what do we do now?" as if some of the other people got there first and know the answer to these things.

It reminds me a lot of Saw, like I mentioned in the title, but there is no gore... for me that was a big part of the allure of the Saw films, but I can understand how some people might be pleased for that to not be a part of the movie. Overall, i would say that this movie was decent, but the argumentative dialogue nearly pushed me into switching it off.

I suppose it is a good 90 minutes for somewhat mindless entertainment. For the most part it isn't a film that makes you think because the clues in the rooms are either extremely obvious, or something we can't figure out faster than the characters because we are not shown the clues at the start - we have to wait for them to find them and then, at times, it seems a bit dumb.

The film was a tremendous financial success, managing to pull in over $150 million on a B-movie budget of $9 million. So I suppose we all better get to movies based on this sort of thing and of course the sequel that is set up at the end of this one, because there are going to be a lot more of these.... bank on it.

On a scale of "Urgh!" to "wowsers" I give Escape Room the overall score of.....

  7. Escape Room (2019) - Movie Review@coldsteem2722d

Imagine an Escape Room where the challenge wasn't a game. Several contestants are invited through an intriguing invitation, thinking they are participating in the toughest escape room challenge devised. But unaware of the stakes. All of the contestants share a common thread, although they don't realize it until deep into the game. Long after they have realized the stakes. Zoey (Taylor Russell) is a young savant. She is quiet and reserved, but impressively intelligent. Particularly in the realm of physics. Amanda (Deborah Ann Woll) is an Iraq War veteran. Mike (Tyler Labine) is an out-going truck driver. Ben (Logan Miller) is a dropout who works in the stock room of a grocery store. Jason (Jay Ellis) is a high-powered deal broker. Danny (Nik Dodani) is a gamer. The contestants don't know each other creating trust issues and suspicion. As the begin to realize the seriousness of the "game," they must navigate a path that doesn't have an honest solution. The game is rigged against them. The sooner they realize that, the better their chances of survival.

The Escape Room screenplay was written by Bragi F. Schut and Maria Melnik. I am not famliar with Schut, but have enjoyed Counterpart and American Gods, which are two of the series that Melnik has written for. I think Schut and Melnik would be awesome at creating an actual escape room. While the film required a bit of coincidence and contrivance to move forward at a good pace, it was still fun to watch the players navigate and interact with the rooms. The pacing was great, creating a decent level of suspense. But the overall idea was a bit flat, the characters could have used better depth and the story could have had a bit more substance. The film was not very rewarding. There is a very solid foundation here, but it doesn't measure up to the promise it holds.

I loved Taylor Russell in this film. This was the first film I have seen her in. Her only other film is Lost in Space although she has another in the works. This Canadian actress has a promising future. I also liked Deborah Ann Woll, who has a fairly decent list of credits, but I recognized her from True Blood. I think it is the only film or series I have seen her in. I enjoyed Labine and loved him in Tucker and Dale vs. Evil which is one of the best spoof films I have seen. The rest of the cast was okay, but no one stood out. The casting was okay. A film like this doesn't require a bunch of known actors. The acting was a bit stilted at times, but I think a lot of that was the dialogue, which seemed a bit juvenile at times.

Escape Room was rated PG-13. That's good, because teenagers are likely the target audience for this film. The film is violent, although not excessively gory like Saw. It is like "Saw-light." The film has good tension and some scenes that could induce nightmares in young children. But overall, not exceptionally objectionable. There are some suggestive themes and language, but they are passive and are likely to be lost on younger viewers. Teenage audiences, possibly tweens and older, should be fine for this film. The run time is one hour, 39 minutes.

Escape Room is a mediocre film. Not bad enough to earn a non-recommendation. Not good enough for a glowing review. It is just milquetoast. The story was intriguing. In fact, while the concept feels derivative of films like Saw it also provides some fresh perspective. But the story is forced. The characters never fully connect. The dialogue was juvenile at times. The pacing was great, with a bit of tension that made the story worthwhile. For a suspense film, this one does have decent suspense. While contrived and derivative, I enjoyed the individual rooms (although the technological aspects were a bit far fetched). I would mildly recommend this film. 6/10.

  9. Death Game, Escape Room@film-trail3202d

As the title suggests, in the Escape Room the audience will be taken to a large room involving six friends. They become impromptu participants of a puzzle game to get away from that room. The film is taken from the "Escape Room", one of the games introduced in Japan in 2007.

Narrated, Christen (Elisabeth Hower) has a surprise for her lover, Tyler (Evan Williams) and their friends. For Tyler's 30th birthday party, Christen has booked them into the most exclusive game in the city they live in: the Escape Room.

The Escape Room game becomes an interactive experience underground that requires participants to be locked together in a room. They were given an hour to unlock a series of vague clues in order to secure them.  The tension between the companions began to feel as soon as the door was locked. They must work together to solve a series of increasingly difficult challenges and bring disaster. The six characters must then open the answers that bring them to life or death, a situation that makes it impossible for them to escape from the room forever.

    Absorbs Many Elements

Before the movie Escape Room was released, there were already more than 900 escape room attractions opened in the United States. Directed director Willi Wernick absorbs the attraction in pouring horror elements with claustrophobic fragrance throughout the thriller scenes in this running film.

Several other scenes also appear to be inspired from the famed Saw film franchise. Elements of the film and then combined with the theme of creative puzzle nan clever as in The Game movie.

In fact, some of the ways in which murders and calamities are presented seem more creative. It produces a hysteria that can make the audience feel cringe. 81 minutes, the film was advanced at the Seattle International Film Festival. So for the horror and thriller lovers, Escape Room is one of the spectacle that must be witnessed.
