If there is something I like a lot about Korean movies is usually the kind of stories they usually tell, I must accept that sometimes their stories are somewhat similar to other movies, but also occasions where they have a quite interesting theme starting from perhaps a similar concept, but turning it around in a curious way and this is the reason why I decided to see the movie I want to talk about today in this new review, so without further ado, join me in this new story that is called "Exit".
SourceThis movie was released on July 31, 2019 and it is a South Korean production that mixes comedy and action in a breathless story as the story unfolds. In this story that we are presented there will be a complicated situation when a mysterious white gas begins to cover the entire city of Seoul and it is here when our protagonist who is a very talented climber tries to do the impossible to manage to save his loved ones who were enjoying a party until everything got complicated. Let's talk a little bit about what happens in the movie.
The first thing we meet is Yong-nam our protagonist who is exercising in a very energetic way, in a way that makes us understand how well he does at it, but we soon discover that he is a grown man who has no job and is still living with his parents and his sister is constantly bothering him and reminding him that he is a good-for-nothing, but asking him to please be presentable for the next party they will throw for his mother, who is about to turn 70 and they don't want him to embarrass them with the rest of the family.
SourceWhen the day of the celebration arrives everyone seems to be having fun and having a good time, everyone celebrates as usual and a girl named Eui-joo, who works at the place where they are celebrating Yong-nam's mother's birthday, shows up, moreover, We find out that Yong-nam and Eui-joo know each other and the reason is that Eui-joo rejected Yong-nam and told him that they should just be friends as they had been, and because of all this, Yong-nam was avoiding her for several years until they meet again in that place.
SourceSo the night progresses and we change scene, a large truck parks and loads some suspicious cylinders, the driver gets off and activates a kind of mechanism which makes a white gas starts to come out and ends up spreading slowly. The first people who see it do not react in a worried way, some even see it as something curious and decide to take some pictures, but a few seconds were enough to see how some people began to cough and fall to the ground once they breathed the gas or it came into contact with their skin, which clearly caused a situation of hysteria.
There starts to be havoc all over the city, from car accidents to gas station explosions which alerts our protagonist and his family who leave the party room to investigate, seeing all the chaos and white gas they decide to go back inside, everyone does it except Yong-nam's sister, Yong-nam rescues her as quickly as possible, she starts to show strange symptoms and they all decide to go up to the roof to be safer, but the door is locked and they don't have the key, Yong-nam decides to climb outside to open the door from the other side and help his family to be safe, will he succeed?
SourceMy impression of the story was very positive, I really liked the whole development of a comic movie at the beginning with something quite serious and full of action later, so I thought it was a genius and a very good combination, plus the idea of gas, although it has already been applied in other films, here I found it more interesting for the skills of the protagonist, having to do many things that left me breathless and allowed the film really generate much impact at all times, so I think it's a great story.
If there is something that is never missing in Korean films (at least in those that clearly include comedy) is the sense of humor that characterizes them and this film was no exception, although I must say that there are several scenes where humor is very present, there comes a point where the film becomes completely serious with everything that happens and I found it quite balanced, so I was having fun and suffering in balanced amounts and it is to be appreciated as well.
SourceAlthough it may not seem like it, I think the film has some messages that may not be hidden, but if you have to pay a little attention to notice them, because from the beginning they show you something and then see the change while everything is developing leaves you much to think about and I think it was very well executed everything, plus something I did not mention, is that there will be many scenes that will be full of much feeling, so combined with these messages that I think the film has, allows them to be more enjoyable and we can connect more with the characters or at least that was the case in my case.
The end of the movie seemed to me very good, it has happened to me before that the movie goes very well, but when it ends they leave many things unresolved and that ruins a little the magic of everything, but in this movie it was not the case, it seemed to me a pretty good ending that went hand in hand with everything else. Also to say that I found very interesting the use of climbing taken to a city and the great dedication you have to have to achieve things that are appreciated in the film, clearly it is also something fictional so many things can not be taken very seriously, but I do not doubt that many others are totally possible.
SourceI end by saying that it is a movie that I would recommend to watch, it really keeps many factors that can make you enjoy the movie a lot, besides being a movie suitable for any audience, something often difficult to find in action movies, but here they achieve it to perfection. Si hay algo que me gusta mucho de las películas coreanas suele ser el tipo de historias que suelen contar, debo aceptar que en algunas ocasiones sus historias son un tanto similares a otras películas, pero también ocasiones donde tienen una temática bastante interesante partiendo de quizás un concepto similar, pero dándole la vuelta de una manera curiosa y esta es la razón por la que decidí ver la película de la cual les quiero hablar el día de hoy en esta nueva reseña, por lo que sin más que agregar, acompáñenme en esta nueva historia que lleva por nombre “Exit: Escape de Seúl”.
SourceEsta película fue estrenada el 31 de julio del año 2019 y es una producción surcoreana que mezcla la comedia y la acción en una historia que sin aliento mientras la misma se va desarrollando. En esta historia que nos presentan habrá una situación complicada cuando un misterioso gas blanco empieza a cubrir toda la ciudad de Seúl y es aquí cuando nuestro protagonista quien es un escalador muy talentoso intenta hacer lo imposible para lograr salvar a sus seres queridos quienes se encontraban disfrutando de una fiesta hasta que todo se complicó. Hablemos un poco de lo que sucede en la película.
Lo primero que conocemos es a Yong-nam nuestro protagonista quien se encuentra haciendo ejercicio de una forma muy enérgica, de manera que nos hacen entender lo bien que se desenvuelve en ello, pero pronto descubrimos que es un hombre adulto que no tiene trabajo y se encuentra viviendo todavía con sus padres y su hermana suele molestarle constantemente y recordándole que es un bueno para nada, pero pidiéndole que por favor esté presentable para la próxima fiesta que le harán a su madre, quien está por cumplir sus 70 años y no quieren que los avergüence con el resto de la familia.
SourceCuando el día de la celebración llega todos parecen estarse divirtiendo y pasando un buen rato, todos celebran como es de costumbre y aparece una chica llamada Eui-joo, quien trabaja en el lugar donde están celebrando el cumpleaños de la madre de Yong-nam, además, descubrimos que Yong-nam y Eui-joo se conocen y el motivo es que Eui-joo rechazó a Yong-nam y le dijo que sólo debían ser amigos como lo venían siendo, y a causa de todo esto, Yong-nam la estuvo evitando por varios años hasta que se vuelven a encontrar en ese lugar.
SourceAsí la noche avanza y cambiamos de escena, un gran camión se estaciona y carga unos cilindros sospechosos, el conductor se baja y activa una especie de mecanismo lo que hace que empiece a salir un gas blanco y se termina esparciendo lentamente. Las primeras personas que lo ven no reaccionan de manera preocupada, incluso algunos lo ven como algo curioso y deciden hacerse unas fotografías, pero pocos segundos bastaron para ver como algunas personas empezaban a toser y a caer al suelo una vez que respiraban el gas o el mismo entraba en contacto con su piel, lo que provocó claramente una situación de histeria.
Empiezan a haber estragos por toda la ciudad, desde accidentes automovilísticos como explosiones de gasolineras lo que alerta a nuestro protagonista y a su familia quienes salen del salón de fiestas a investigar, al ver todo el caos y el gas blanco deciden volver a entrar, todos lo hacen menos la hermana de Yong-nam, además ella entra en contacto con el gas y Yong-nam la rescata lo más rápido posible, ella empieza a presentar síntomas extraños y todos deciden subir al techo para estar más seguros, pero la puerta está cerrada y no tienen la llave, Yong-nam decide escalar por fuera para lograr abrir la puerta desde el otro lado y así ayudar a su familia a estar a salvo, ¿lo logrará?
SourceMí impresión ante la historia fue muy positiva, realmente me gustó mucho todo el desarrollo de una película cómica al principio con algo bastante serio y lleno de acción luego, por lo que me pareció una genialidad y una muy buena combinación, además que la idea del gas, aunque ya se ha aplicado en otras películas, aquí me pareció más interesante por los dotes del protagonista, teniendo que hacer muchas cosas que a mí me dejaron sin aliento y permitía que la película realmente generara mucho impacto en todo momento, por lo que me parece una gran historia.
Si hay algo que nunca falta en las películas coreanas (al menos en las que incluyen comedia claramente) es el sentido del humor que les caracteriza y esta película no fue la excepción, aunque debo decir que sí hay varias escenas donde el humor está muy presente, llega un punto en que la película se torna completamente seria con todo lo que ocurre y me pareció bastante equilibrado, por lo que me estuve divirtiendo y sufriendo en cantidades equilibradas y es de agradecer también.
SourceAunque no lo parezca, considero que la película cuenta con unos mensajes que quizás no estén ocultos, pero si hay que prestar un poco de atención para notarlos, porque desde un principio te muestran algo y luego ver el cambio mientras se va desarrollando todo te deja mucho en qué pensar y considero que estuvo muy bien ejecutado todo, además que algo que no mencioné, es que habrán muchas escenas que estarán llenas de mucho sentimiento, por lo que combinado a estos mensajes que considero tiene la película, permite que sean más disfrutables y que podamos conectar más con los personajes o al menos así fue en mi caso.
El final de la película me pareció muy bueno, me ha pasado antes que la película va muy bien, pero cuando termina dejan muchas cosas sin resolver y eso arruina un poco la magia de todo, pero en esta película no fue el caso, me pareció un final bastante bueno que fue de la mano con todo lo demás. También decir que me pareció muy interesante el uso de escalar llevado a una ciudad y la gran dedicación que hay que tener para lograr hacer cosas que se aprecian en la película, claramente también es algo ficticio por lo que muchas cosas no se pueden tomar muy en serio, pero no dudo que muchas otras sí sean totalmente posibles.
SourceFinalizo diciendo que es una película que recomendaría ver, realmente mantiene muchos factores que pueden hacerte permitir disfrutar mucho de la película, además de ser una película apta para cualquier público, algo muchas veces difícil de encontrar en películas de acción, pero aquí lo logran a la perfección.
