…No.

I just found out while writing this post that this movie is based on a book! Wow! Two days ago I saw Project Hail Mary. I had seen many positive reviews of this movie, even people saying it was as good as or better than Interstellar, and that seemed like a lot to me. So I had to see it to verify those strong claims, and I must say it's a pretty good movie. It's not boring, it has a very beautiful story that I wasn't expecting at all since I hadn't even seen a trailer, and above all, the setting, cinematography, and music are excellent. But to say that it's as good as or better than Interstellar? ...No. I think it's obvious that Interstellar is far superior in terms of plot, but this movie tells its own story and is quite interesting and entertaining to watch.

In this science fiction film, our protagonist is Ryan Gosling, and I absolutely love that man. In this story, he plays Ryland Grace, a science teacher who wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of who he is or what he's doing there. Throughout the film, we see scenes that gradually reveal Grace's identity and how he got to that point. The most unsettling aspect is that Grace is completely alone; his companions have died, and he has to piece everything back together on his own. In this story, Grace ends up being an unlikely hero, as he finds himself on a mission to save the world from a star-devouring bacterium.

And after so much loneliness, Grace receives a message from an alien spaceship and meets her new travel companion, Rocky.

Rocky, whose name sounds like a rock, is quite funny and strange, and it's amazing how tender I find a creature without even a face. Somehow, Grace and Rocky end up adapting their languages to communicate better. They both share a common goal: to save their planets from the star-devouring bacteria. It's simply beautiful to watch their friendship unfold.

As I mentioned, this film has very beautiful cinematography; the colors, the settings, it's visually gorgeous. Scenes that don't have too much "fantasy" also feel well-adapted, with a very fitting atmosphere, and it's really appreciated; it's satisfying to watch.

I won't tell you the ending, but I want to say that it's the most beautiful ending I've seen in a very long time. I laughed so much and I loved it… I was pretty nervous throughout the whole movie, bracing myself for something bad, but that ending simply won me over.

The story begins with the discovery that something is draining the sun's energy. After conducting research and collecting space samples from there for analysis, they concluded that the sun's energy is being consumed by alien bacteria known as astrophages. That’s when the clock starts ticking to find a solution to the problem, and they find it on a planet surrounded by astrophages—but it’s the only one that isn’t infected. So the mission begins to build a spaceship and recruit specialists to save Earth from this threat.

It's a science fiction film about space travel and a possible end of the world. If you watch it without any prior knowledge, it may initially seem mysterious why scientist Ryland Grace ended up as the sole survivor of his crew, since he is disoriented and has lost his memory. He wakes up in space without knowing who he is or what he’s doing, but he’ll figure it out as the plot unfolds and his memories gradually return.

The story isn't just about averting a catastrophe; it also features a beautiful friendship, and this is one of my favorite parts. On her mission, Grace encounters another alien spacecraft containing a rather peculiar, rock-shaped creature whom she names Rocky. Both are trying to discover the same thing: a way to save their planets from this threat that knows no borders or spatial limits, and both are the sole survivors of their respective crews. So the two of them team up and form a beautiful bond as they search for a solution.

    1000028548.jpg Source

And this solution is on the way, though first they will have to take great risks that will put their lives in danger. Both will have the chance to become their planets’ last hope for saving everyone.

It’s a beautiful story that I never get tired of recommending—I absolutely loved it. It’s quite long, running 2 hours and 40 minutes, but it’s totally worth it. I hardly noticed the time passing. It’s visually stunning; it would have been great to see it in the theater with special effects, but it’s still enjoyable. It might have a more humorous and less catastrophic tone than you’d expect, but I liked it that way.

    1000028554.jpg Source

Without a doubt, it’s a heartwarming movie with a great message about the value of friendship. I loved this pair—they had me laughing a lot—and there were also moments when I felt for them in scenes where it seemed like all was lost, but there was always a helping hand ready to save the day. And that’s what friendship is all about: being there for each other through thick and thin, as the saying goes.

If there are any details you don't quite understand or that seem confusing, I recommend reading the book. The adaptation is pretty faithful, but the book explains a lot of things better, and it's incredible. I highly recommend reading it. There's a lot of science involved, but it's explained in a simple and engaging way—you feel like you're learning a ton, and that knowledge never goes to waste.

    1000028557.jpg Source

The truth is, I highly recommend this movie—it’s entertaining, visually stunning, and has a soundtrack that really complements it. The plot isn’t the best out there, but it’s pretty good. At least, I really enjoyed it.

“Project End of the World,” also known as “Project Salvation,” is a 2026 science fiction film directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The story is a cliché—a plot we’ve seen in other films that deal with the end of the world, aliens, and space adventure. I have to say that this used to be one of my favorite genres, but for a while now I’ve been interested in other kinds of stories; even so, I decided to give it a chance, and overall I really liked the result. As always, I want to make it clear that this isn’t a professional review—it’s an opinion based on my personal experience, taking into account how entertained I was and the feelings the film evoked in me.

The film begins with a fair amount of uncertainty, as we find a man on a spaceship—the only survivor—who can’t remember anything. Then, little by little, we begin to understand where the story is headed, with Ryland Grace, a science professor, waking up on the ship in space. I like this movie for its story because it combines several interesting genres, including the thriller, as we have several possible scenarios within the story and the plot’s twists and turns gradually unfold. As a story in general, I find it interesting—nothing new, but it does have some unique details, which is why I consider it original. I must say it surprised me quite a bit because I didn’t expect it to also involve aliens.

Life on Earth is in danger because the sun is dying due to a strange substance that is killing it, so Ryland Grace is sent to investigate the situation and report back, putting his life at risk because he will most likely not have the chance to return. In the film, we encounter a series of mysteries; as the protagonist regains his memory, we learn more details, so we may be surprised by how it differs from other stories we’ve seen. At first I thought the movie would be boring, since having just one person on the ship is pretty tedious, but we get plenty of great flashbacks to Earth, a smooth transition between the present and the past, which gives the movie meaning.

    image.png image.pngimage.png Source

Greig Fraser handled the cinematography and did a fantastic job. I loved the film visually—from the spaceship itself to how they recreated all the systems inside it, the technology, and more. I also loved the flashbacks to science teacher Ryland Grace, showing how they conducted all the tests for the mission and the research they undertook to find a solution—otherwise, there would be no tomorrow. But from my point of view, the best part of all is the soundtrack—compositions that reflected the moments our protagonists were going through, the moments of tension, of not knowing what was happening, some tracks even in dark moments that are perfect for a thriller, but also those with more movement for certain moments that can bring a smile to our faces.

“The Martian” is a film adaptation of the novel written by Andy Weir, and even though I haven't read the book, I think the adaptation—while perhaps not perfect—was certainly good enough to capture my attention, despite my low expectations. It’s a production with a story that builds steadily, cinematography that lives up to the film’s scale, and a soundtrack that I consider exceptional—the best part of all. I really recommend watching the film if you haven’t already; I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

  4. Project Hail Mary (2026) || Movie Review@esther-emmanuel43d

    1000111163.jpg

I'm always skeptical of movie adaptations of popular books, especially ones I've read because creators often cut important scenes or make changes that contradict the spirit of the original story. Usually, it's the readers that end up disappointed. The book version of Project Hail Mary has received positive ratings on Goodreads and although it's been sitting on my TBR for a while, seeing the trailer made me nervous. Fortunately, those doubts disappeared once I watched the movie.

Project Hail Mary(2026) is an American sci-fi directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller based on Drew Goddard's screenplay of the popular novel of the same name by Andy Weir. It stars Ryan Gosling as the lead actor, Sandra Hüller, James Ortiz, Lionel Boyce and other supporting actors.

    1000111155.jpg

The opening scene shows Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) waking up from a deep sleep with medical wires attached to his body and tube in his mouth. A robotic voice announces that he's awake. He pulls out the tube, coughs and rolls off the bed. He can't remember who he is, why or how he's in the spacecraft. Then he discovers the bodies of his two dead astronauts and in confusion goes through their luggages.

    1000111156.jpg

    1000111161.jpg

While playing around with the buttons of the craft, his memories start to return bit by bit. In flashbacks, he was recruited by Eva Stratt (Sandra Hüller) because of an infection draining the sun and causing the celestial body to die. If not stopped, Earth would cease to exist. Since he's the only living person in space who can help, he pilots the spacecraft further into space until he comes across another craft. There's an alien in it who is on a similar mission to save his world. Can they work together to save their worlds?

    My Review And Rating

Not many cinephiles are drawn to sci-fi movies because their plots are science-driven and packed with technical terms and concepts that are sometimes difficult to understand and follow. But Project Hail Mary is a movie that adds humor, friendship and heart to science fiction adventure. The plot is brilliant and fascinating, fixated on the idea of planets working together in harmony to make life better.

    1000111162.jpg

    1000111158.jpg

I think the adaptation of Andy Weir's book was well done even though I have not read it yet. I'm not surprised if some parts of the book were trimmed out in the movie yet it doesn't negatively impact it. I expected viewers would be bogged down with many science details or terms but it wasn't so. The storytelling is seamless and the problem—the infection and decline of the sun—is easily understood by any adult who watches it.

    1000111157.jpg

    1000111159.jpg

The only flaw I see is the slow pacing at the beginning where it's just Ryan Gosling alone in the spacecraft either speaking to himself or roaming around without doing much. I almost got bored until the extraterrestrial being came into the movie. Also, the ending was unnecessarily stretched.

The cast's performance is outstanding, especially Ryan Gosling. He's charismatic as an A-list actor and uses that charm to endear the audience. He brings humor into every dialogue and shows a kind of vulnerability in his relationship with Rocky that is touching. Every expression and word portrays a kind of emotional honesty that feels real and you want to love him for it. As the only living astronaut in space with no hope of returning home, he played his role perfectly.

His bromance connection with Rocky is what gives this movie a heart. We are focused on the science but quickly remember that beyond all the infection hassle are two beings looking to connect and save their worlds. I love how the directors slowly build the relationship between the two. Their interactions, curiosity and discoveries aren't rushed and feel real.

    1000111160.jpg

The cinematography is beautifully done. The visuals and transitions are stunning. The move between the present and the flashbacks are smooth except for the scene where Rocky tries to save Grace. The red, blinking flashes are a little uncomfortable to watch.

Rating this movie, I'd give it 7.5 stars out of 10. It's a fine adaptation that commits to the themes of hope in the midst of despair, friendship and connection to save the world. It's worth watching and I'd recommend it to all sci-fi fans.

  5. 🎬 2026 Movie Review #17 | Project Hail Mary (2026) 🎥@screenjournal64d

This blog is a personal journal of all the movies, Tv-Shows, & Games I consume during a year which enhances my overall experience. The ratings that I give are fully based on my personal preference and enjoyment at the time of watching and I'm writing spoiler-free reviews. (All liquid earnings are used to get extra Hive Power Delegations!)

    2025 Movies Marathon

I have grown a bit of a tradition in January to watch all the 'Youtuber Top 10 Films Of The Year' videos to catch up with everything that was potentially good in the previous year. We are now 4 months into 2026 and I'm pretty much done with 2025 Movies feeling that I watched the ones I really wanted to see. From here on out, I will watch the occasional 2026 movie but more importantly work trough the massive backlog I have of older movies that I still want to watch...

As someone who is somewhat of a Science nerd, this space sci-fi movie was one I had quite high hopes on even though I kept my expectations low in the hope to be blown away. I love space movies and they also bring something extra when watching them on the big screen. Apparently this movie is an adaptation of a popular book by the writer of The Martian which is one of the Space movies along with Insterstellar which put the benchmark super high for Project Hail Mary. This comparison is not working in favor of this one as those are just on another level. Another kind of hidden Gem in space movies is Moon but it's far less of a specatcle.

    Going To The Movies

I kind of can't believe that the year is 4 months in and this was the first and only movie that I went to see along with a friend in the Cinema. It's a combination of not that many movies these days that really are worth it, and high prices while it often is a matter of weeks before I can already see it on my big screen tv is good quality that is hurting the movie theaters. I do plan to go see the Michael Jackson biopic, and also look forward to go see Backrooms, & Disclosure Day while I'm in Thailand when they are released and maybe a couple more as I will stay for 2 months there and it likely will be a good way to keep cool during the day.

    Project Hail Mary (7.5/10)

I went into this movie not knowing too much as I avoided any spoilers while looking at it now, I wouldn't have minded knowing a bit more. I did see the trailer once months before but aside from thinking 'I might go see this' I didn't remember much of it. All I knew was that it was a space movie of a guy who wakes up on a space ship mission alone not really remembering much, it's from the same writer as the martian and the movie involves an alien also. The movie gets a solid 8+ on imdb and is close tp 2 hours and 40 Minutes long.

The Setup I actually liked the entire setup of the movie of what was going on with the 'end of the world' scenario as the Sun was dying along with all other suns in the universe aside from one where they travel to and where they meet the alien creature who is on the same mission. It's also interesting that there is a switch between events on the space ship and what happened before on earth.

However, I know that the movie is called Project Hail Mary which means...

People use “Hail Mary” more broadly to mean any desperate attempt with slim odds of success.

But the movie is just packed with one event after the other that in reality would have 0.0001% chances of actually working it feels like which you need to be able totally put aside in order to fully enjoy it.

The Alien Creature I had no idea what to expect from the Alien creature and it would have been best in advance that I would have known it was some kind of rock with legs. I was intrigued by the initial communication and the way they got to meet. It turns out that the human can't survive in the living conditions of the creature and the other way around. The way that this the language barrier was fixed felt kind of a bit too convenient and smooth. I also fell asleep for a couple moments just to see the Alien somehow was in a capsule so it was able to get on the ship and work together to find a possible solution.

The Story I would say the deeper story is about how the main character evolves from fearful, reluctant teacher into a selfless hero which did add to the main story of the end of the world and humanity trying to fix it.

The Acting, Visuals, & Sound Ryan Gosling really put up an excellent performance and the visuals of the movie along with the sould design were top notch. I liked Sandra Hüller especially the scene where the sign of the times songs. At the same time she contantly made me think of the Movie Anatomy Of A Fall where she is the main character which was somewhat distracting.

Conclusion Don't expect the next Interstellar or The Martian when going into Project Hail Mary as it's simply is not as good. The main thing that pulled me out a bit is the string of improbable events in this one. Aside from that, it was quite enjoyable from many angles and I get the high ratings. At the same time, I can't say I was fully blown away but I did enjoy it enough to still give it a good 7.5/10.

  6. A Geeky Guy's Guide to Project Hail Mary@hanshotfirst70d

I absolutely love the movie The Martian. It is one of those movies that no matter what part of the movie I walk in on, I sit down and watch it to the end. There is so many different cycles of exposition, rising action and climax that it feels like ten movies in one. Like The Martian, Project Hail Mary is based on a book by author Andy Weir. Considering it is by the same author and about a similar topic, one man surviving in space, it had a high bar to measure up to. And did it ever!

My wife and I went to see Project Hail Mary by ourselves (no kids for once) in a Dolby theater. We are so happy that we did. Not only were the visuals and sound simply incredible, it felt so good to be on an adult date on a Saturday night like when we first met. And this movie deserved to be seen on the biggest screen possible so we are thrilled we did.

If I had known one simple detail, I think my expectations would have been even higher. It wasn't until the final credits that I found out that the movie was directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. If you aren't sure who they are, these are the guys who directed 21 Jump Street, 22 Jump Street and The Lego Movie. So it should have been no surprise there were some belly laughs in this awesome movie. It should also be no surprise that about half way through it becomes a kids movie... in the best way possible. It becomes cute and fun but not in a saccharine way. It was just flat out pleasant and entertaining. I spend nearly the entire movie smiling. These guys know how to make an entertaining movie.

Everything is awesome when you make a great movie!

Without spoiling anything not already shown in the previews, the movie centers around a scientist who goes on an earth saving mission to figure out why our sun is dying. My wife, who read both this book and the Maritain, had very high praise for the film. in fact, she said it was better than the book. One of the reasons is that Lord and Miller decided to tell the story in a non-linear way. Instead of it being all set up for the mission and then the mission, they bounce back and forth. This means that you never get bored with either part of the story. It was masterfully done.

Quite often when I see a movie base don a book, it feels "off". The majority of the time, I feel like something is missing. This is especially true when I have not read the book... which is quite often. This is not the case for Project Hail Mary. They crammed in a lot of story in the 150 minutes of runtime. Although I am sure they sped up some details and most likely left something out, I never felt like anything was missing. More importantly, I was so engaged in every second of the film that I never got up to go to the bathroom once. That is VERY rare for me in a two and one half hour movie. So that is the highest praise I can give.

Just like Matt Damon in the Martian, Ryan Gosling is able to carry the movie in a significant number of one-man scenes. He's charming and, as we learned in the Barbie Movie, very funny. He pulls off the school teacher turned "hero" incredibly well. You root for him.... and all of humanity the entire time.

OK I do have to say something about the "science". I am not a scientist. Heck I'm not even a middle school science teacher but even I know some of the science things in this movie must be impossible. But that is OK. Any movie about taking a science teacher on a trip to another galaxy to save the sun requires a significant amount of suspension of disbelief. Because this movie was so well done and so entertaining, it earned that suspension of disbelief. So if you are looking for an episode of Cosmos thsi is not the movie for you. But if you are looking to have fun and enjoy an awesome popcorn movie, go see this on the big screen ASAP!

  7. Project Hail Mary - Alien friendship instead of an alien threat@cute-cactus73d

Science fiction cinema often generates big ideas but struggles to strike a balance between those ideas and human stories. While it’s fair to say that capturing emotion is quite difficult in most sci-fi films, I can say the exact opposite about Project Hail Mary. I’d say it was one of those rare productions that managed to blend these two elements almost flawlessly.

    [source](https://media.themoviedb.org/t/p/w500_and_h282_face/oTVKcphHfE5MmQPx1pY79SLODJv.jpg)

The story’s central themes are loneliness and hope. The story begins with a man waking up on a spaceship having lost his memory. This man, Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling), is actually humanity’s last hope. He was sent to stop a mysterious organism causing the sun to go out.

But at this point, the film doesn’t fall into the trap of trying to create a classic hero. The primary and central focus shifts to how a person must cope with loneliness. The film emphasizes that science is not just a solution but also a means of understanding. And most importantly, it explores how to form a connection with a stranger with whom you share no common bond. This last point is significant because the film’s strongest element is Grace’s unexpected friendship. And the way this friendship is gradually revealed to the audience.

It’s safe to say that the film’s true surprise and most unforgettable character is Rocky, and I believe this is a choice that will be widely accepted by everyone. I won’t give away too many clues about the character, but I can say that simply noting he isn’t human and emphasizing that the film must be watched is sufficient. Rocky single handedly breaks the molds of the sci-fi genre. Because instead of an alien threat, it creates an alien friendship.

    [source](https://media.themoviedb.org/t/p/w500_and_h282_face/afHAM9qOTmrVDeaLIU7zfssotUY.jpg)

I’d say Ryan Gosling took quite a risk in this film compared to his other works. He’s alone for most of the movie, and that could have been a serious challenge from an acting standpoint. He successfully brought to life a character who is intelligent yet helpless, hopeful yet fragile.

The interior of the spaceship, chosen as the setting, successfully conveyed a sense of reality and atmosphere throughout the film. The scientific details were strong. Even though you know the film is entirely fictional, the fact that some elements are grounded in science instills a sense of reality in the viewer’s mind.

What if something like this really happened? What would humanity do in the face of such an extinction crisis? It was possible to be engrossed in such questions throughout the film. In my opinion, the film’s greatest strength was its ability to tell a story one that could be considered a major achievement in the sci-fi genre from a human perspective. Though, one must ask, are we, as humans, really that friendly?

If you enjoy stories about survival through science, Project Hail Mary will appeal to you. I can also say it’s an emotionally distinct production that prompts the viewer to think more deeply. It also carries the lesson that help can come from an unexpected place at an unexpected time.

Thank you for being here and reading this. Take care of yourselves until we meet again, and goodbye.

  8. Project Hail Mary || One Human, One Alien and the Universe's Last Stitch of Hope.@wongi75d

Watching movies is one of my favourite things to do and sometimes, it's a means to reward myself after a long and overwhelming week. After writing a series of exams, I succumbed to the grip of my movie player to binge watch as many movies as I can.

    1001332596.jpg

In the short span of about a week, I’ve watched so many movies. Some old, some new, some blockbusters and the others just regular movies. Did I outrightly regret seeing any of these movies? Definitely not. Dare I say I was just grateful for the opportunity to watch movies without the feeling of guilt.

In this post, I would be sharing my thoughts on one of the most recent movies I've seen. So, if you're interested in my thought process, stick around to find out what I think about “Project Hail Mary”.

    1001332603.jpg

    About the Movie.

Project Hail Mary” Is the 2026 cinematic adaptation of Andy Weir's bestselling 2021 novel–––Project Hail Mary. The movie was directed and produced by the filmmaking duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Written by Drew Goddard, it stars Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace. Other supporting characters include; Sandra Hüller, James Ortiz, Lionel Boyce and Ken Leung.

The movie premiered in London on the 9th of March, 2026 but reached U.S theaters on the 20th of March, 2026.

The story follows Ryland Grace, a former molecular biologist turned middle-school science teacher who wakes up aboard a spaceship with amnesia.

He gradually pieces together that he's on an urgent solo mission to save the earth called Project Hail Mary. With limited skills, he must figure out a way to save himself and the world.

    1001332604.jpg

    My Opinion.

I really didn't have any expectations when I sat back to watch this movie. I've been trying to keep a very open mind to many things and movies happen to be one of those things.

The narrative of this movie jumps between the present day space action and flashbacks from Earth, maintaining momentum while delivering astonishing science moments.

The star of the movie, Ryan Gosling as Grace, shines as a charming, vulnerable, witty character. He carried along solo sequences with some sense of comedy, intelligence and emotion, making the character very relatable. He balanced humour and heart, without losing the stakes.

The rest of the supporting characters also delivered their roles beautifully although they were all majorly seen during the flashbacks.

The movie has science fiction as a genre at its core as the movie is rooted in scientific problem solving and interstellar exploration. Adventure, comedy, drama, action/thriller and interstellar friendship are some other genres explored in this movie.

I was intrigued by the simulation of the galaxy. The galaxy simulation called “Petrova line” was one of the most visually striking in the movie. It wasn't a full simulation of the Milky Way galaxy but a clever visualization that threw more light on the plot.

Pacing was a slight issue with this movie as the end of the movie felt rushed and left viewers with limited time to digest the adventure.

But overall, the pros outweighed the cons for me. I enjoyed watching “Project Hail Mary” and I think it's one of the best sci-fi blockbusters in recent years. The protagonist's performance was top notch and the emotional dynamic with his new friend was so heartwarming.

[YouTube](https://youtu.be/m08TxIsFTRI?si=Sj4eTgpx_TLTP6sW) ___ ## Recommendation and Rating. ___ Project Hail Mary is a visually stunning, humorous and heartwarming science-fiction adventure about a reluctant hero, interstellar friendship and humanity's ingenuity against cosmic disaster. I would give the movie an 8.5 out of 10 rating.

I recommend this movie, especially if you enjoy smart, optimistic sci-fi movies. Also, if you're into creative problem solving, you'll learn something inspiring from this movie.

  9. Project Hail Mary (2026) - Ultimate Space Duo - REVIEW@skiptvads77d

    Source

After watching Project Hail Mary I get why ppl like it so much and its not because of the space theme, zero gravity or exploring another world, its rather because a human alone with little memory of whats going on in these case, out in the absolute middle of nowhere and has to use their brain and his guts to figure out what the hell is happening before everything falls apart, although this time just dont try to hard for everything to make sense because there is a lot that just doesnt but the movie keeps going. Ryan Gosling alone in a ship with no memory and two dead crewmembers is one of the strongest opening setups on one of his movies because for the most part he is all fun and action but this movie trusts you to sit with the disorientation instead of explaining everything right away. Lord and Miller, the same duo behind the Spider Man animated movies, directed the movie and you can tell the movie has their touch because this could have been a very cold and clinical movie about astrophysics and orbital mechanics and instead it feels warm and funny and human without ever losing the weight of what is actually going on with the potential disaster, which is essentially every living thing on Earth slowly dying as the sun gets weaker year by year. Ryan Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a middle school science teacher who got basically pressured by mission director Eva Stratt into the most absurd space program in the history of organized human panic, and when the movie opens he does not even remember any of that, he is just a confused guy with dead crew members and a talking computer trying to figure out his own name and there is something about that specific kind of blank slate character that pulls you in fast because you are discovering who this person is at exactly the same pace he is.

    Rottentomatoes Rating
    [Source](https://tinyurl.com/zkw3wdmk)

The movie builds the story of Ryland Grace in a nonlinear way that keeps feeding you pieces of his past at exactly the right moments and what those flashbacks reveal is that Ryland is not a hero in any traditional sense, he actually ran from the mission, tried to escape the whole thing and had to be sedated and loaded onto the rocket because Eva Stratt decided he was the best shot at survival for the planets and she does not really take no for an answer. Sandra Huller plays Stratt and she is fascinating in how she is written, this woman who will sacrifice anything and anyone without losing a moment of sleep because she has decided that the math requires it and the scenes between her and Gosling had so much tension between a person who thinks in emotions and a person who thinks in pure survival logistics and even when he tries to make it funny there are times he just cant, he cant brake her character. The production quality is very very good, its for sure going to give you Interstellar vibes throughout all of the runtime, the ship feels worn in and functional rather than clean and cinematic, the CGI rendering of the astrophage microorganisms that are eating the sun looks menacing but at the same time very simple as how easy they die but how powerful they are and specific rather than generic glowing nonsense, and for a movie that runs close to two and a half hours the pacing was ok, even though it had times where it drags like when Ryland wakes up or when he is learning to communicate with Rocky, for the most part Lord and Miller know exactly when to drop something funny or absurd to let you breathe before pulling you back into the science. Then Rocky shows up, a five legged spider alien who communicates through musical tones and mathematical frequencies, and the whole movie shifts into something else entirely because this creature built through practical effects and very specific sounds, its that sci fi vibes that gets you everytime he talks, Rocky becomes the most emotionally real presence in the whole story, and watching two completely alien to each other beings figure out how to talk to each other through math and music is the kind of stuff that made me actually love science fiction as a kid.

    [Source](https://tinyurl.com/zkw3wdmk) [Source](https://tinyurl.com/zkw3wdmk)

Where the movie leaves some real points on the table is with the dead crewmates we get to know through flashbacks, because they never get enough of their own time to feel like actual people whose absence costs you something emotionally, they just done they just filling dead space basically, they are more like context for the mission than characters you grieve when the movie reminds you they are gone. The history between Ryland and Stratt also feels like it got compressed somewhere across the entire movie, because I kept wanting more scenes of those two battling out on a lab or a meeting room before the launch to understand why she specifically picked a man who was actively fleeing the program to be the one person the whole world depended on, the logic is there but the emotional convincing is not quite, rather I guess there was none, she clearly told him "you dont even have a dog" , making him the perfect candidate. The science also gets dense in stretches and there are conversations about fuel ratios and time dilation and xenonite that can lose you if your attention is not dead focus for even a couple of minutes you get that tf they talking about? when roocket space? because thats what the trailers does to you, wanting to see Ryland in space with an alien, but the movie does decent work simplifying before your brain fully melts, there were two or three moments where the science jargon got out of hand and those moments the movie is going to loose you for sure. None of this kills the experience, more like places where a slightly longer cut might have added the the missing connection that would have pushed this from great to something you feel in your chest for days after.

    [Source](https://tinyurl.com/zkw3wdmk) [Source](https://tinyurl.com/zkw3wdmk)

I have not read the Andy Weir novel this is based on so I cannot speak to how closely the movie tracks the source material, but what I can say is that from a pure movie standpoint this thing works because it feels like a throwback to a specific kind of science fiction that almost nobody makes anymore, the kind where first contact with something completely alien is treated as a reason to be curious rather than a reason to grab a weapon. It reminds me of early Spielberg in a very specific way, the same way E.T. worked not because of the alien but because of the relationship, because of two beings from completely different worlds deciding the other one is worth the trouble of understanding, and that puts Project Hail Mary in a very short list of movies that actually earn that comparison. The difference here is that this movie is also sharp and funny in a dry way that E.T. never really was, the scenes where Ryland and Rocky are comparing their biology and cracking jokes about how baffling the other species is are the kind of stuff that could have felt forced and cute but instead feels like two people who actually find each other bizarre and great, and pulling that off without it turning saccharine is harder than it looks.

I am giving Project Hail Mary a 8 out of 10 and I feel completely sure about my personal rating because this is the rare kind of movie where the enormous scale and the intimate character work actually does so so well without one crushing the other, and Gosling proves here that he can carry a two plus hour science fiction movie mostly alone with a puppet for company and make it feel like a full experience the whole time. The ending does have that average sacrifice moment but because of the build up of the two characters it means so much more, because the movie has done the work to make you understand exactly what Ryland is walking away from and exactly why he does it anyway, and the final images of him building something new somewhere impossibly far from home makes you want even more when you know its over, thats the same feeling I had when Interstellar was over. This is probably the first MUST WATCH of 2026 and it is going to be sitting on my year end list when December rolls around, I for sure can re watch this one, and whoever greenlit a big budget science fiction movie about a science teacher and a spider alien that communicates in music deserves a raise.

  10. Don’t Sell It To Me Like Interstellar | My Project Hail Mary Review@danielcarrerag91d

Project Hail Mary is the movie of the moment for all sci-fi lovers. Right off the bat, let me tell you that this is definitely not the new Interstellar, as many claim—which, frankly, is what drove me to watch it with so much excitement, because I absolutely adore that movie.

To have the best experience possible, I didn't want to watch too many reviews or videos; knowing it was sci-fi and combined science with outer space—one of my favorite movie genres—was enough for me. However, I was a bit worried about going to see it with my family. I thought my wife and young daughter would get bored watching an almost 3-hour space story, but it was quite the opposite.

I found a story with a very interesting scientific element, but it’s not the center of the plot. It’s almost a road trip—in space, obviously—where a man finds friendship while trying to save his planet. It’s all about the relationship between Dr. Ryland Grace (Gosling) and an alien nicknamed Rocky, whom he ironically crosses paths with in space. After overcoming the language barrier, they discover they share the same mission and decide to face it together, resulting in a dynamic that brings a lot of comedy to the story.

This relationship has charmed a lot of people. I saw my 10-year-old daughter excitedly clapping and laughing at this odd couple. Not to mention my wife, who was fascinated and delighted by the "cuteness" a rock could bring. On the other hand, I understood perfectly what was going on—this isn't my first rodeo. Gosling is a genius who knows how to make a charming story shine, and he has a lot of charisma.

But where the movie lost me a bit was in the execution of his solitude. Gosling is an actor with incredible chemistry when he is accompanied by others, as evidenced by his interactions with Agent Carl. However, in the scenes where we are left alone with him in the vastness of space, and then we see him talking to what is basically a rock, I felt his style didn't quite fit.

Look, I don't want to be unpopular, and I don't doubt that the friendship with the alien is sweet and works for many—my family loved it. But for me, it lacked the spectacular atmosphere that Interstellar had and that they want you to believe this one possesses. Don't sell it to me the same way; it’s a good buddy story, but not a masterpiece of space survival.
