Have you ever watched a show with an on-screen character that was quite unlikeable to watch? The one in this show was so unlikeable to the point that I had to ask; Why is she so annoying? The worst part is that she's the lead female character and has A LOT of screen time. Many netizens couldn't get past the second episode of the show because of this particular character.
This goes to show that the actor played the role perfectly. I kinda think her annoying element was pushed a little too far by the scripting of the show and it got worse with each new stunt she pulled. Her character was thoroughly dislikable, but that wasn't the only distasteful thing about this show.
The story looks good on paper and it was obvious that isn't going to be a lovey-dovey story of Oppas chasing Noonas around. The synopsis I saw for the show looked fairly inspiring, but for some reason, I have been putting this off since 2020. I finally got to watch the show two months ago and I feel so gutted for sitting through the 10 episodes of the show.
Oh, my precious time. Haha.
It's funny how they ended this with a cliffhanger. It's like they want viewers to scream for a second season and so many people are asking for that, but the one I've seen so far is enough for me. There is still no word about the coming of a second season, and I can't imagine myself sitting down to stream a second season of this show for whatever reason. It's just not happening.

That's the work of a genuine hype(guy/lady). Whoever did that deserves all the accolades for the money made from the show. The trailer got me tripping and my expectations got blown out of proportion. But, when I finally started watching the show, my disappointment was as loud as my initial expectation.
Well, lemme say this and say it right...
I watched each episode with a surge of anticipation while waiting for the show to finally get thrilling, but all I got were a series of distasteful episodes. I still don't know why netizens hyped this up like crazy. As far as I can tell, after watching every minute of the show, this is average at best.
The irony of this is that even in the final scene, I was still looking forward to something that will make me feel like this show wasn't a complete waste of time. I'm still waiting. Haha. The storyline is shocking. It's as if they want to project a morally incorrect activity and make us sympathize with those that were breaking that moral rule.
The whole PIMP business model spearheaded by a teenager didn't humour me at all. If anything, the good thing about the story in this show is that it didn't hold back in highlighting the ugly truth of this modern society. The story will mess with your mind. I'm serious about that.

I wanted to say more in the title than I did but it was running the risk of already being too long as it is. When I say that "It's decent for the right person" that is a pretty vague description. What I really mean by that is there are plenty of things in this series that are not going to appeal to a larger western audience because it involves teenagers that are in rather ridiculous situations and a lot of the tension is created in the series by re-using the same techniques that are used not just in this series, but a lot of different Korean drama series that feature young people.
The story gets introduced pretty quickly and that is a good thing because generally speaking, I personally can't stand it when a series takes ages to establish what the hell is going on. This was true for me even with Game of Thrones and I initially gave up on the series because it was taking too long to get to the point.
The main character is names Oh Ji-Soo and he is a shy, hyper-intelligent student who seems to effortlessly dominate all of his schoolmates in academic endeavors. He keeps to himself and isn't very interested in social aspects of life. He is invisible to all the other students in class... but he has a dark side that no one knows about because he almost never speaks to anyone else. As it turns out he is the mastermind behind a prostitution ring and makes a ton of money off of it all without anyone ever seeing his face. He does this by having a "heavy" that he employs that doesn't even know who he is.
That is until one day a girl that he clearly fantasizes about just happens to stumble upon aspects of his life that are a bit suspicious. This chance encounter is one of the problems I have with the series. Bae Gyu-ri (the girl he fancies) is foreshadowed as a love interest in a small segment where he is looking out the window and daydreams about her as she is playing soccer. Then later in the same episode she just happens to be in a club that his guidance counselor manages and they end up hanging out because of a project that the counselor assigns them.
It doesn't take much at this point to realize that these two, who on the surface appear totally different, are going to end up together.
While the main focus of the show is to center on these two, they need to introduce other aspects of teen life and this is where the story starts to appear like every other teenage drama that you have ever seen. There are jocks, nerds, and of course the always present bullies that have appeared in all Korean teenage dramas I have ever seen as well as a majority of western ones. I'm not saying that these type of people don't exist, I guess they kind of did in my own high school, but they didn't get away with as much mayhem as the characters in this do.
Like many similar series the kids in this show seem to be allowed to do whatever they want unchecked by parental or adult intervention, even when this involves criminal activity. Kids just wander to and from school all day long and stay out really late in a fashion that makes the entire thing seem kind of unbelievable.
Also some of the acting by the teenage actors and actresses is a bit overly dramatic. Perhaps this is actually how Korean youth society is but to me it seemed like everyone was just flipping their tops on a regular basis in a way that would definitely have been cracked down on in my school.

So far it probably seems like I don't like the show but that is not the case. I actually quite like it and feels as though the production value is pretty good and a lot better than most of the available western-made dramas that exist on Netflix at the moment. I find myself forcing myself to go to sleep when what I really want to do is watch another 1 or 2 episodes. Regardless of the topic matter, if a show is having this effect on me then it is a good sign that it's a pretty well-made show.
Should I watch it?
For starters, if you are even going to attempt to watch this you need to accept the fact that you are going to have to read it because the overdubbing, as they tend to be, is horrible. This reading can be complicated and fast-paced because there are many instances where people are talking and text messages or signs are being translated on screen at the same time. Better put your glasses on because you need to be a fast-paced reader to even know what is happening.
The topic matter is a little too far-fetched and unbelievable that teenagers are able to get away with stuff like this but the main characters are loveable enough and the story is good enough that I think most people will enjoy this.
However, since it isn't absolutely excellent, and I have come to expect excellence from Korean shows and movies, I can't give this top marks. The fact that I am still looking forward to the last 2 episodes this afternoon tells me that for the right person, this could be a real winner. The question remains about if you are that kind of person!

Si estás buscando una serie juvenil pero que la trama vaya un poco más allá y sea más cruda y realista, la que te voy a recomendar es ideal. Si bien muchas personas aún creen que las series coreanas son todas iguales de dramáticas y sobreactuadas, es porque no han visto las correctas, pero esta con sólo 10 capítulos te permitirá ver un poco de lo difícil que es crecer sin nadie que se haga cargo de ti y estar solo en el mundo.
If you are looking for a young series but the plot goes a little further and is more raw and realistic, the one I am going to recommend is ideal. While many people still believe that Korean series are all the same dramatic and overacted, it's because they haven't seen the right ones, but this one with only 10 episodes will allow you to see a little of how hard it is to grow up with no one to take care of you and be alone in the world.

Oh-Ji Soo es un joven que no tiene padres y debido a esto tuvo que buscar la manera de sobrevivir y mantenerse, sin nadie con quién contar empezó una red de prostitución que incluía a menores de edad (sin este saberlo hasta cierto punto cuando se entera que una de sus compañeras es miembro), todo iba aparentemente normal hasta que por accidente Bae Gyu-ri descubre su secreto.
Oh-Ji Soo is a young man who has no parents and because of this he had to find a way to survive and support himself, with no one to count on he started a prostitution ring that included underage girls (unbeknownst to him to some extent when he learns that one of his classmates is a member), everything was apparently going normal until Bae Gyu-ri accidentally discovers his secret.

She was also a model student and her parents were quite rich, but she was fed up with both of them and when she finds out about this network she decides to join in order to get rid of both of them, which was a bad decision as they tried to expand the business and it went from bad to worse. Although we also have Seo Min-hee who prostitutes herself in order to maintain a status in front of her boyfriend and gets involved in the crimes of this magic.
Si bien no es una serie perfecta porque debo admitir que la duración de más de 1 hora en cada capítulo y lo lenta que se puede sentir, es una gran serie y la trama es muy diferente a lo que se está acostumbrado.
While it's not a perfect series because I must admit the length of over 1 hour in each episode and how slow it can feel, it's a great series and the plot is very different from what you're used to.
Las actuaciones estuvieron muy bien por parte de todos y la escenografía también. Algo que disfruté fue ese suspenso de no saber qué va a pasar, y el hecho de que te pone a pensar moralmente si estuvo bien lo que se hizo o no, y cada capítulo te deja con cierta reflexión.
The performances were very good by everyone and the scenery as well. Something I enjoyed was the suspense of not knowing what is going to happen, and the fact that it makes you think morally if it was right what was done or not, and each chapter leaves you with some reflection.

Now, I saw this series a few months after its premiere, it came out in my preferences as a consumer of this content and to be exact I had no interest in watching it, but the character of Oh Ji-soo played by actor Dong-hee Kim caused me much interest, but I want to highlight something before watching this production I had seen the popular kdrama Itaewon Class where he participated as one of the main actors of the plot, this series I will review it soon contains a great message that overwhelms. Recapitulando, Oh Ji-soo es el protagonista de esta producción, al que no le importa hacer de proxeneta, pero se ofende cuando le dicen que lo es. Esto me parece muy desagradable, porque un simple adolescente o mocoso puede destruir la vida de una chica fácilmente.
