    Flee

Escape, fear, feelings of guilt, impotence. And again, the family, the abandonment, the construction of an identity, the homeland, the search for home. Becoming great, fleeing and fleeing while growing, bringing the weight of the responsibility of the opportunity on the shoulders.

Amin's is a journey from Afghanistan to Denmark that starts as a child and who teaches him to always be on the alert, to never let his guard down, never to look back and forget everything and everyone, repairing from scratch in a land foreigner, becoming foreign to himself, in turn.

The geographical, external journey winds parallel to the inner journey, to understand who he is, what he wants, whoever loves. Thus, when the present, in the guise of his partner, requires him an effort of trust towards the future, suspending fear, to get married and go to live together, Amin will be forced to deal with the past. A confession-documentary to the chamber of course becomes the first significant stop, after so many years of departures without certain destinations and sometimes without returns. A necessary point not to forget but to remember, in compliance with memory, roots, origins, intentions and affections of those who have had to leave behind. A milestone to resume writing his own story elsewhere, bringing himself into the joys and pains of the stories of his country, of his city, his family and so, for once, at least, to be able to go home.

Flee is a documentary film that expertly mixes repertoire images with animation. Absurd, the animated story gives the story of the greatest truth and a great emotional charge.

    Very remarkable and refined.

    Free Guys

    Free Guy, Shawn Levy, 2021

What if the machines began to learn? If the video game characters acquire awareness? If artificial intelligence knew how to think? With or without entertainment, Disney productions and always ask us about great moral and philosophical themes, through the pleasure and fun of films for everyone.

Whether we talk about reality, of virtual or increased reality, what remains is easy to say but not easy to do: resize the conflicts, do not give anything and no one for granted 'in the background', look beyond the surface, ask questions, lift Doubts, rebel against the status quo, act and react, be different, trust, rely on, team up to make a difference. Change from small things and from the bottom to get to the top. Revolutionize to go on. Exit the loop and reveal the extraordinary nature in order.

At the basis of everything: to be free guy, free individuals, taking on all the responsibility for freedom. Not really a walk! Free Guy does exactly what cinema and video games do: telling the limits and potential of real life and living beings in flesh and blood through the fiction and avatar. Because the matrix of all artificial intelligence will always be a human intelligence and before 'something' can learn to think, there must be 'someone' able to teach them, for better or for worse. The rest comes by itself. Free Guy is in full Disney mood: "If you can dream it, you can do it".

    Notevolissimo e raffinato.

    FREE GUYS

    Free guy, Shawn Levy, 2021

The Oscars are approaching, a ceremony where I really always have mixed feelings because I always find some mistake but at the same time, I am always willing to see as many nominees as possible to know if everything is okay, or, sometimes, for pure entertainment . Almost always, when it's for pure entertainment, I enjoy movies more since I only see the ones that catch my attention, however, this year I decided to see most of the nominees, starting with the animated films, and… I was surprised.

I was not surprised by the quality of the films, of course not. I was surprised by one specific movie, which made me feel more than most of the movies I've seen in recent days.

People are not lying when they say that cinema is art, when what is transmitted are feelings based on characters, stories and cinematographic language. Art seeks to represent the feelings of the author, and if those feelings manage to travel through a medium to reach the person who consumes said work, it is said that the art fulfilled its mission. This concept can be difficult to understand if we take it to a documentary, but to tell the truth, it is one of the things that surprises me the most about Flee.

Flee is an Oscar nominee in three categories: best animated film, best foreign film and best documentary. This is something really strange, but, due to the diversity that these awards have had in recent years, it is no longer impossible. This Danish documentary tells the story of Amin, a refugee from Afghanistan who now lives in Denmark; This documentary shows us the flight of his entire family, together with Amin's childhood and part of his adult life fighting against his sexuality and the prejudice that being homosexual means with an Afghan family.

Knowing that Amin's family was lucky is kind of comforting, but then remembering that many families actually didn't get to live half of the life that Amin has lived makes me sad. Seeing the tragedies suffered by these people, told from the broken voice of a true survivor who for the first time can speak with relative freedom about everything that has happened is something truly incredible that everyone should see.

I'm lying if I say that what came to me the most emotionally was Amin's real voice narrating everything, since, despite trying to understand his feelings from the tone of his voice, I couldn't decipher everything very well, but his voice, together The drawing and some real images made me really feel Amin's story, especially almost at the end of the film when a particular song becomes the protagonist of one of the most moving scenes I've seen in animated movies. And I really want this to be a conversation so I can talk specifically about parts of the movie that moved me one way or another, but since I don't want someone to watch the movie knowing that it's going to happen, I'm just going to invite you to watch this movie, because It doesn't last more than an hour and a half.
