  1. Fractured (2019) || Hyped But Doesn’t Fully Deliver@teknon482d

    IMG_2909.jpeg

While scrolling on TikTok, I came across a video that highlighted three of Netflix's best thriller films. So, to be sure other people could relate to it being good, I looked through the comments and one of them, Fractured was being overly hyped up. Without hesitation, I went in search of it, with high hopes of being completely stunned when the credits rolled but the reverse was the case.

    Synopsis

    IMG_2903.jpeg

Directed by Brad Anderson, the story follows Ray Monroe (Sam Worthington), a man traveling with his wife, Joanne (Lily Rabe), and their young daughter, Peri (Lucy Capri). After a stop at a gas station, Peri accidentally falls and injures her arm. Desperate to get her medical attention, Ray rushes to a nearby hospital. Joanne and Peri are taken in for treatment while Ray waits in the hospital lobby. However, when he wakes up from a short nap, and asks to see his wife and daughter, he is told that the hospital has no record of his wife and daughter ever being there. The staff insists they were never admitted, and Ray’s growing panic turns into a frantic search for the truth. As he digs deeper, he starts to question whether there’s a sinister conspiracy at play or if his own mind is betraying him.

    Review & Personal Criticism

    IMG_2908.jpeg

First things first, psychological thrillers have a way of pulling the rug out from under the audience, keeping us second guessing everything we see.

Objectively, this guy actually takes you on a tense, paranoia-driven ride that questions reality itself. With an eerie atmosphere and a plot filled with psychological twists, I was kept on edge, but does it fully deliver?

    IMG_2904.jpeg

It thrives on its suspenseful atmosphere alright, building paranoia scene by scene. Sam actually delivers a strong performance as a desperate father unraveling at the seams. His portrayal of Ray is raw and emotional, making us feel his frustration and fear as the mystery deepens. It also does a great job of placing the audience in Ray’s shoes. I mean I also doubted everything I saw. The hospital setting is cold and unwelcoming, adding to the unease. The cinematography effectively plays with light and shadows, which emphasizes the claustrophobic and nightmarish feel of the story.

    IMG_2906.jpeg

However, while the tension is well-crafted, the film was actually vague while also relying heavily on familiar psychological thriller tropes.

Objectively, the weak point of this film lies in its ambiguity. I wasn’t really satisfied with the ending. Infact I felt stupid because what were those twists for? They should have stuck to one narrative so one can have a better understanding of what the hell was going on but nope, the director thought it was okay for the film to be annoyingly vague. It would have been satisfying to know if Ray really murdered his wife and daughter as the psychiatrist assumed or his mind wasn’t actually playing tricks on him and it was the hospital that actually hid them away to get their organs. Making me rack my brain around what really happened spoiled the film for me. It ruined everything. Plus it would have made sense if it was made clear that Ray was suffering from mental disorder because obviously he was acting like one. His vision and thoughts were always distorted and it just didn’t make sense that this little information about his character was left out.

    IMG_2910.jpeg

Another weak point is the pacing. The first half of the film managed to build suspense brilliantly, but lost it completely in the second half as it became clear where the story was headed. A few scenes feel repetitive, stretching out the mystery longer than necessary.

It would have been a very engaging psychological thriller if not for its lack of meaning. It does keep you questioning reality but it would have been great if it also supplied answers to those questions.

Rating? It doesn’t fully break new ground in the thriller genre so I’ll leave it at 3/5.

Do I highly recommend it? No!

  2. NOOB FILM REVIEW - FRACTURED (2019) directed by Brad Anderson (Netflix)@nazirullsafry505d

    475762773_10163097770776042_3454696890087129861_n.jpg

SYNOPSIS Ray and Joanne rush Peri, their daughter, to the nearest hospital after she fractures her hand in a fall. However, when the mother-daughter duo disappears, Ray struggles to find them.

REVIEW A good director knows about the importance of the opening frame to his film. In this case, it shows the images of the scanned human brain in the opening credit as it fades into the main character, Ray (Sam Worthington) in anger and having an argument with his wife while driving.

As the film unfolds, it is clear that these are important element of the story - is everything the audience is seeing is only in Ray's head? Does this driven by his guilt of losing his first wife in a car accident?

The title itself is a great play of semantics taking the audience for a ride while keeping away from being ambiguous. Fractured could also means the state of his relationship. At the end of Act 1, it could also saying something about the injury of his daughter. Later on, the audience are made to related it to the state of mind of Ray himself.

It is soon clear when exactly Ray slipped into hallucination with flashbacks but the director is clever enough to play with shot transition as a strong cue to the more preceptive audiences.

Apart from being a thriller/mystery stated by Netflix, it is more psychological and a straight genre. And the director is cunning enough to deliver a critique towards the Kafkaesque nature of the rural health care and insurance, also the possibility of the human organs trafficking syndicate amongst them.

Near the ending of Act 2, I was imagining that the ending would be Ray waking up from his hallucination in an ICU ward and seeing that his wife and daughter is doing ok. And all his constant resistance with the hospital staff and the police in his dream is a representation of his strong will to regain consciousness.

More with the ending isle shot which is has bright white lighting which might indicate positive ending. He might be meeting with the spirit of his first wife and resolve years of guilt of losing her due to his driving. What a closure that would be.

But the overall gestalt would make it rather inappropriate. The encounter with the first wife might just be a deus-ex-machina moment because there is no visual hint of her in earlier scenes. So as psychological thriller, it ends with a horrific reveal.

This film is about the horror of living in guilt after the lost of a loved ones. My alternate ending might give those who is suffering from it perhaps some hope. Ray's hallucination scenes might have been better if done in a more 'The Sixth Sense' way.

In this captivating plot, the viewer enters a labyrinth of realities where the truth becomes an enigma to be solved.

Worthington excels in his role, leading the audience to question every detail and theorise about what is really going on.

Masterfully scripted, the film manages to engage the viewer in a unique way, making them feel part of the story and keeping them in constant uncertainty.

The cinematography is quite good, with framing, perspective changes and specular play appearing at various points in the film.

  4. ‘Fractured’, a twisty thriller@ismaca759d
    [Image](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=920298)

Director Brad Anderson is a master of mounting tension, and with ‘Fractured’ he crafted an immensely gripping and suspenseful thriller that kept audiences gripped until its shocking ending.

Sam Worthington delivers a raw, unhinged performance as a father desperate to find his family after a mysterious accident in a department store.

As more is uncovered, horror takes over.

Larenz Tate and Lucina Barney are also superb as two very different strangers who cross paths with Worthington's character in treacherous ways. Their scenes are exquisitely acted.

    [Image](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=920298)

Anderson drags the viewer into an increasingly disorienting paranoid state alongside Worthington, with haunting detail and an eerie soundtrack that plays on the fear of social dangers and the loss of loved ones.

The final revelation of Fractured's twist is monstrously chilling, elevating this tight thriller to chilling prestige. A work of impeccable pacing and psychological penetration that deserved much more attention.

A modern masterclass in how to instil dread through intimate and real character drama.

Anderson is consistently underrated. It should be recognised as one of the best thrillers of its time. A nerve-shredding marvel.

    [Image](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=920298)

Although it slipped under the radar for the big awards, Fractured received high critical praise upon its release for its convoluted ending and mounting tension.

Sam Worthington's committed performance was especially praised, proving his worth beyond the blockbusters.

Commercially, Fractured found its audience on Netflix and in cinemas, grossing $17 million worldwide on a modest $6 million budget.

    My Opinion / Mi Opinión

The first time I saw this movie was during the quarantine, and thanks to a friend who came to visit every day, it was recommended to me so I decided to watch it and I really loved it, it's a psychological thriller that kept me glued to the screen From start to finish, the story is really interesting and exciting, it plays with 2 different realities and the best thing is that you don't discover what really happens until the end, so I inevitably kept an eye on every detail. The casting work in general was excellent, especially its protagonist Sam Worthington, of whom I would never have imagined the interesting turn that his character has in the story.

The photography is excellent, and I really liked the shots inside the hospital, the special effects are also very good and it has a color palette that works very well. As I told you before, the plot is excellent and keeps the intrigue going all the time, and although at first you might think that the hospital in which the film takes place hides something macabre, the reality may be different since at the end the film shows us the mental reality of the protagonist which we are discovering during the film, let's say that my favorite scene is almost at the end when Ray Monroe initiates the supposed rescue of his wife and daughter and on the way he even kills a security guard. I really admire the work of the director of this film a lot since I would say that it is one of the few psychological thriller films that have kept me glued to the screen, and I really dare to say that in general they did an excellent job.

We have a small family that is traveling to visit the grandparents, but on the way we will be able to notice how there are problems between the couple, all this leads to their little daughter having an accident when she falls into the void from an old construction in a station service where they stopped for a few seconds, they immediately run to the first hospital they get on the way. But from the moment they arrive, the atmosphere becomes tense and suspicious at every corner, including every character that is part of the hospital, making it clear that something is not quite right, until the wife and daughter mysteriously have not appeared for several hours since they entered. to do a CT scan on the girl.

From the beginning of the movie you can feel the tension in the environment, something that makes the viewer feel that something bad is going to happen, which keeps you in suspense and glued to the screen. We have Ray, a worried husband who marks his character very well. Without watching the movie, you can see how his character has emotional problems that will be reflected throughout the film.

Imagine having to go to a hospital for an emergency and having to do so much paperwork to get admitted because unless you have a lot of money, they won't let you through without having health insurance, no matter how serious your health is, I think this is clear evidence of the problem that exists in many countries on this issue, where healthcare is not free and that can be evidenced as a social criticism of the US healthcare system.

What I loved about the movie is how the director plays with your mind and makes you believe in something that really isn't what it seems to be, so you try to pay attention so you don't miss any detail but you end up not understanding what's going on. because you are looking for a way to build the story to find out if Ray is right or he definitely lost his sanity, I feel that this is one of those movies that you have to see a second time to be able to appreciate other details that you will not be able to notice the first time you see it .

It is a film that passes very quickly and without many complications, perhaps it will not be a masterpiece, but for the fans of the genre I am sure they will like it, although personally it left a bitter taste at the end of the film because I did not expect it that ending, but I think that adds more credibility to the story, because we didn't get the happy ending that we all would have hoped for.

  7. Movie Review: Fractured || Can You Solve the Mystery? [ENG-ESP]@olujay1176d

    Fractured Film Review Poster.jpg

How powerful the mind is can be underrated sometimes. Consider the feeling of deja vu—the feeling that something has happened before—and how believable it can feel sometimes. There are not many explanations for why we have such feelings, but it has to do with the mind and how it perceives its environment.

If a simple concept like deja vu can be convincing, I wonder how much more convincing the realities in the minds of people who experience cognitive anomalies can be. The likes of schizophrenia aren't something one should wish on a person.

The ability to think clearly and interpret things for what they really are is a gift to possess. This film, Fractured, portrays the perspectives that mental illness can give to people and how it can affect their lives and those around them.

    divider4.png

    𝔸𝔹𝕆𝕌𝕋 𝕋ℍ𝔼 𝔽𝕀𝕃𝕄

Ray Monroe and his wife, Joanne, are traveling to see Joanne's parents with their daughter, Peri, for Thanksgiving. On their way, Peri's batteries for her toy needed to be replaced, so they stopped at a small store in a remote place on their way in hopes to get new batteries.

Ray didn't get batteries, however, and Peri lost her toy when she and her mother went to the bathroom. Ray and Joanne split to search for it, with Joanne checking the bathroom and Ray checking the vehicle.

Ray is distracted while Peri walks around to play and finds a dog. She becomes afraid and, ignorantly, walks back in fear and falls into a ditch. Ray jumps after her, trying to save her, but ends up with a concussion. When Joanne returns and finds them in the ditch, Ray gets up, and they take Peri to a hospital as she complains that she feels badly hurt.

    Screenshot (451).png

They go through rigorous procedures to see a doctor at a nearby hospital, and after many hours, Joanne and Peri walked into their operations laboratory, and Ray became worried that something may have happened to his family. The hospital, however, claims that Ray walked in alone and they never saw his family.

Ray becomes even more confused and begins to believe the hospital is into some shady business and has done something to his dear wife and daughter. The hospital, on the other end, tried to paint Ray as crazy.

Ray is one hundred percent sure that the hospital is insane; he involves authorities, and it turns into a battle between one man and his truth vs. the truth the hospital is telling.

    divider4.png

    𝕄𝕐 𝕋ℍ𝕆𝕌𝔾ℍ𝕋𝕊 & 𝕆ℙ𝕀ℕ𝕀𝕆ℕ

I have never really been as confused about a story in a long time as I was with this one. I began to even question what I had seen and play detective in my mind to try to explain to myself what was happening exactly.

As the story unfolded, I became more and more confused about what I had seen, but at the same time I became more and more intrigued and eager to see how it would all play out.

    image.png

    sᴛᴏʀʏʟɪɴᴇ

I like that there was a plot twist. I like the plot twist, in fact. The only issue was that I saw it coming at a certain point in the film. It was sort of easy to piece it all together early enough. But there's nothing wrong with that, really. I like the way it all turned out in the end, and although I felt sad and pitiful for the protagonist in the end, it had thrills that I enjoyed.

The story presents to us the reality of the problems people face with their mental health. How they may actually see the world differently from what it really is or have such vivid dreams that they forget the real thing. This may be some form of spoiler, but I guess it is somewhat inevitable.

At some point in the film, I began to question what was exactly real and what wasn't. I mean, yes, we were told some parts of the story, but I wasn't really sure what the story was until the end. I liked how the filmmakers were able to keep me intrigued till the end.

    Screenshot (454).png

Something I wouldn't say I really agree with were some "bends" to what one would normally expect in some situations the film was presented in. These bends were things that made me wonder—after I realized in the end—why some things happened when they shouldn't have. I mean, why seem shady about some secret place if there was no need to in the first place? I guess they were probably necessary to hold the film together. There weren't too many anyway.

For most of the first half of the film, there were moments where there was ominous music, suggesting something spooky or intense was going to happen next, but they were mostly false alarms. I didn't like that.

Nonetheless, I think the portrayal of the reality of mental illness is a very good one. There is even a psychologist who I would consider did really well with her job, and it depicts how tactful these kinds of doctors have to be when dealing with such patients.

    ᴄɪɴᴇᴍᴀᴛᴏɢʀᴀᴘʜʏ

I wouldn't say that there are that many things to talk about in this film. I'd rather say that due diligence was done in this film to keep it engaging and entertaining.

    Screenshot (453).png

And an example would be how they use the camera angles to further allow the audience to relate, maybe even see from the protagonist's perspective, how things were happening for him in his mind. Other than that, let's say the cinematography does its job just fine. Nothing out of the ordinary for me.

    ᴀᴄᴛɪɴɢ

At first, I was a bit skeptical about the performances of the cast, especially the protagonist. I couldn't fully accept what I was seeing. It wasn't until much later in the film that it all started to make some sense.

I would like to commend the lead actor, Sam Worthington. I loved the energy he put into the film, especially in keeping it going with how he managed to keep the audience connected with what was happening.

The majority of the cast did a very good job, although some parts of their performances were somewhat questionable, but I guess that is owing to the kind of scripts. An example is acting suspicious when there really is no need to. divider4.png

Fractured was a thrilling film for me. I loved how it progressively told its story and still kept it all engaging and entertaining. And I like the way it ended. I felt very different, maybe in a sad and creepy way, but it had a good conclusion. It may not have been perfect from the start, but it did alright.

I would recommend it to anyone, but I will sure let them know that they are indeed in for a treat.

I will give it a rating of 7/10.

No me gustó.

The majority of the cast did a very good job, although some parts of their performances were somewhat questionable, but I guess that is owing to the kind of scripts. An example is acting suspicious when there really is no need to. divider4.png

Y me gustó cómo terminó.

  8. Fractured (review)@roadstories1847d

If I were asked to describe this movie I would do it in one word "intriguing", from beginning to end. Every detail, every expression, the way it happens, even a simple conversation between a couple or with someone else makes you think a thousand things, and the first thing you say is "there is something strange here". I tell you that you are going to feel that from the first to the last minute of the movie.

The beginning of the film is a very important opener because it shows a family that is going through a bad time, maybe love is no longer enough to support the differences between the two, or even the fact of having a beautiful little daughter is not a reason to continue maintaining a marriage that has been breaking down during the last year of the many years they have together.

All of us at home are moved by the beauty of the little girl, and it is something that makes this movie even more heartfelt because the last thing we want is for something bad to happen to someone as beautiful as she is, especially if she is so small and extroverted.

However, at a fateful stop to buy some batteries, an accident happens that takes your breath away. However, it doesn't seem to escalate when the little girl reacts to her mother's voice after falling into a construction hole.

Children tend to be very hyperactive and curious, but also fearful of animals, and it is something that is implied in the film, so as parents and even as civilians of society we must protect them and be aware of them because their innocence does not save them from everything bad and they end up in a hospital, or even in the worst case dead.

For a moment you get to think that all the blame has been the father's fault for neglecting her and even more when the mother expresses it too, however, we see that he does whatever it takes to make his family well.

During the course of the film, there are signs of things that are not normal, I will say directly that we will all think the same as the protagonist; the hospital is weird, and it could be said that they are stealing human organs to sell. This is what makes you think the whole movie, once his wife and daughter disappear when they were taken to do a test on the head of the little girl.

The strangest thing of all is that no one knows anything and they make him look like a madman. There comes a point where you don't know what is real and what is fictitious, however many things come to light that suggests that there is a plot in the hospital. And well, we see a family man willing to do anything to find out where his family is and save them.

The adrenaline you feel and the suspense is on another level, you even share the same idea of the protagonist, to get to the end of everything and find out what is happening.

Personally, there came a moment when I said "shoot him in the leg, he deserves it", especially when he discovers the truth behind everything, however, the ending... left me even more breathless.

The past is something that can affect our future in one way or another, and more when we see the death of someone, as they say in the movie....

"Your mind makes you see what is not to protect you from the truth".

  10. Fractured (film): The multiple twists make this thriller worthwhile@gooddream2417d

I had my doubts when i was looking at the trailer for this film and I also don't have a bunch of faith in lead star Sam Worthington (Avatar, Clash of the Titans.) I have to admit there were certain times that I was looking at my phone because the story kind of takes a while to get moving. However, once the film is finished there is a great sense of satisfaction because finally, someone makes a film that isn't a cookie-cutter copy of every other movie. This one, is truly original.

As always, i try to avoid all spoilers and especially since this one has some "twists" I do NOT reveal those. However, if you like to go into a film totally blind, just know that I feel this film is definitely worth seeing

    [source](https://www.heavenofhorror.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/fractured-netflix-review.jpg)

Ray (Worthington) and his wife Joanne (Lily Rabe) and their daughter Peri are driving somewhere for some reason when the stop at a rest stop to i dunno, I guess rest.

While they are doing their various things Peri wanders off and puts herself and her father Ray into a bad situation which results in them both falling into a pit on a construction site. This all happens in the first 5 minutes of the film and is in the trailer so no, this is not a spoiler.

    Fractured_00_10_38_22_R.jpg source

Everyone seems fine, although they do need to go to the hospital because Peri seems to be rather badly hurt. This is where the "fun" begins.

Director Brad Anderson does a wonderful job both with dialogue and various camera angles to show a real life horror that many Americans face at one point in their life or another: A hospital waiting room.

    [source](https://img.cinemablend.com/filter:scale/quill/1/8/1/9/5/c/18195cf4ca7632e35522cca3f4f913403d94a05e.jpg?mw=600)

The endless waits that seem completely arbitrary, the endless paperwork with questions that are totally unrelated to anything medical, the gatekeeper staff who seem like emotionless automatons, the almost certain issues with your insurance information, and the general feeling of indifference is all shown in a wonderful progression of events that are frustrating to watch but ring so true to life.

After Ray finally gets his daughter seen, things change a bit as the doctor is friendly, reassuring, and knowledgeable. Dr. Berthram puts the family at ease and the pace of the movie dials down a bit. Consequently the role of Dr. Berthram was played by Stephen Tobolowsky, who i knew I recognized but couldn't put my finger on who he is. Turns out he is the annoying insurance salesman, Ned Ryerson from Groundhog Day.

[source](https://www.thewrap.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/groundhog-day-ned-ryerson-phil-connors.jpg) I'm happy he is still getting work

Anyway, now Ray is put at ease an all he has to to is wait for his family in the waiting room. Gradually the tension builds back up as it has been hours and hours and finally he can't be polite anymore so he goes to inquire about the progress of his family, only to discover that the entire staff has changed over and there is no record of his wife and daughter having been admitted at all.

And this is where I am going to stop talking to avoid accidentally giving something important away.

    From the official [Netflix](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCimThZW-Ew) channel

Now, I'm not going to lie, there are a lot of holes in the plot progression; probably more than most films that I have seen. However, this is easy to forgive once you have seen the finished product because the introduction of total realism would have made the necessary sequence of events impossible otherwise.

It is extremely rare when an American film can break the mold and go with some sort of interesting twist in the overall plot (I don't know why this is the case but it is true) and lately anyway, even more rare that something this original ends up being a Netflix exclusive. Because of these things this movie is one of the best films I have seen in 2019.

It haunts you once it is over and it makes you think about what you just watched, perhaps encourages you to watch it a 2nd time to see if you missed any clues.

    My overall rating: 9 / 10

![index.png](https://files.steempeak.com/file/steempeak/gooddream/ggm5aYhL-index.png) I know i review a lot of films, but when the "Wowsers!" rating gets used, you can skip the backlog of films and head straight to that one :) If you have already seen this film I would appreciate it if you didn't spoil it for others, since the twists are pretty essential to the overall enjoyment of the movie
