This film is based on a very original idea, a game night, that as the night progresses, everything becomes more and more crazy, with some changes in the plot that are really brutal, because of how exaggerated and unexpected they are, in addition, it has a humor, which works most of the time.

And it is that at the beginning of the film I thought it was going to be another comedy of the amount, a perfect couple who avoid a neighbor because of how weird he is, the typical couple of lifelong friends and the Don Juan who always appears with a different girl, but the intrusion of Max's brother, Brooks, added the madness and comedy that the film needed.

At first it seemed something completely absurd, especially when at the wedding they danced on a game machine, but after the scene with the doctor and how they reject the strange neighbor so that he is not in their "famous game nights", I thought that it would be infumable (although I would not even go to the corner with Gary).

But Brooks arrives with his attitude to spare and we see how Max is minimized, immediately annoying Annie, who sets the goal of finishing him at his own game. Brooks decides to change the rules and forms of his game night, proposing that he would be kidnapped and the first to solve the mystery would keep his car. What they did not know is that they would get into real trouble, which would get worse and worse...

It is not the first time that I have been a type of film like this, in which it is shown that if something is going to go wrong, it can always go much worse, being very hilarious that every time a madness happens, the protagonists take it very normal, thinking that everything is acted, sinking each time into action, but also into the underworld of trafficking and the mafia.

The film also has top-level actors, Rachel McAdams, Jason Bateman, Kyle Chandler and the other stars, they all have a good time on screen making us laugh with their occurrences, but what most catches my attention are the secondary ones, who with 5 minutes on screen, they achieve their moment of fame, Michael C. Hall as The Bulgarian being the villain that nobody expected, the struggles of the millionaires and the Denzel Washington who was not Denzel, are some who stole the screen.

In conclusion it is a good movie to see with friends and get some laughs, but it is not a masterpiece (I feel that I complimented it too much in the review), the concept is very funny and after seeing it it caused me to call a few friends and have a crazy wild game night with Monopoly, jajaja.

  2. Game Night (film): Funny and completely impractical.@gooddream2760d

Watching the movie is not impractical. The ideas portrayed in it are just so out-of-the-realm-of-all-possibility though. This is why I write this.

    13947168_f520.jpg

I watched this movie for 2 reasons: Jason Bateman is my new favorite actor and 2: I was on a plane and it was one of the few options I had available for me.

The premise of the movie goes like this: Max and his wife really love having game nights where couples compete in various games such as the classics like Pictionary, charades, or really anything else that involves a team. They, as a couple, enjoy the fact that they tend to be so much better at it than most of their friends. Their competitive spirit keeps them happy as a couple and is subsequently how they met.

    image.jpg

They host a game night that gets wildly out of control when one night the game night involves a hired company that sets up murder mystery events for people and well, things go wrong. It wouldn't be much of a movie if this weren't the case.

    game-night.png

All the couples at some point realize that the game they are playing is not really a game and straighten out only to realize they are now caught up in a serious real-life danger situation and then it stops being fun and becomes very serious.

This movie is not great but it is reasonably entertaining. However, I am a realist and want continuity to exist in movies I watch. This movie did not have that. The scenarios are so completely absurd that it is really easy to see that there is no way that what happens in this movie could ever possibly happen in real life. The situations are just too nuts.

I still enjoyed this film, it just isn't something that anyone can relate to afterwards because there is no chance that this could ever happen to anyone by mistake or otherwise. The scenarios that they find themselves in would be impossible to be faked by a company and impossible to survive if they were real.

    gamenightdog.jpg

One very important thing to note: Jesse Plemons plays Gary Kingsbury, the next-door neighbor of Max who is a cop with some serious socialization issues. He just absolutely nails it. Despite the fact that he is a minor character in the overall scheme of things he totally steals the show.

overall i would say check this movie out if you are nearly out of stuff to watch but don't expect it to be amazing; because while it is decent it certainly isn't something to write home about. It is my undertanding that it made more than $50 million so that is great news! for them

  4. Review Film: GAME NIGHT (2018)@film-trail3023d

Game Night is a funny movie. Game Night is a crazy movie. Game Night is a movie full of surprises. Game Night is a movie full of crazy crazy surprises. How high-profile Hollywood comedy is able to meet the above description? Not much. In the modern era-where mainstream comedy is often too lazy while the representative of the indie domain that is hailed is sometimes busy throwing criticism until it forgets to joke-The Hangover (2009) and Horrible Bosses (2011) enter the criteria. By coincidence, Game Night duo duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are the people behind the creation of the latter movie script.

Max (Jason Bateman) and Annie (Rachel McAdams) are spouses of game lovers. Both always address the game as seriously as the competition, including when holding a night game that is done every weekend with some friends. But the night of the game was different. Brooks (Kyle Chandler), Max's more handsome sibling is also rich-superiority that makes Max depressed until his sperm quality declines-is visiting then proposes to improve the challenge of the game. Apparently there are companies that offer the services of an interactive role-playing game of mystery.

I'm always excited and a little intense when playing cluedo, so I'm not hard to imagine the enthusiasm of the characters when a similar game (as if) brought to the real world. So enthusiastic, they did not realize when a real kidnapping took place in front of the eyes, thinking it was part of the scenario. The movie itself takes time to creep up, but once stomping Game Night reluctant to step on the brake pedal and I was reluctant to play this game quickly end.

Wrap his black comedy was held totally without restraint, so the blood splashes and brutal death also formed a tingle situation. One of the bloody events was when Annie accidentally shot Max's hand. Armed with a potluck-but expensive equipment-which he bought at the minimarket, Annie tries to look after her husband's wounds. Mediocer comedy will only use the expression of pain and disgust of the actor. Game Night, armed with the creativity of the maker, also took advantage of the sound of toy decks. I will not reveal details, essentially this film combines a variety of elements to lure cuteness, including sound, whether sourced from the property or players.

Verbal comedy, reference-studded joke, slapstick, visual gag, please select. This movie has it all. Daley and Goldstein cleverly put the timing also chose a comedic booster shot. They know when a sudden silence as punchline should appear, as well as what kind of camera angle to wrap the silence. I was busy facing the rush of laughter until I had not expected a sudden twist to ambush. Game Night is full of surprises, well-related grooves, comic timings, character behaviors that generate funny situations nan stupid unexpected, to other creative elements including action bands that unexpectedly look exciting. Even Liam Neeson would not be able to tackle a plane as neat as Max and Annie.

Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams wove solid chemistry, complement each other, joke each other. Bateman is funny, but watching McAdams, as a figure who throughout his career rarely plays a role in comedy silliness, is more fun and refreshing. Dancing while playing a pistol, showing off the shock with the "mobile phone lag" level while watching someone die with an airplane sucked off the plane, McAdams is obviously having fun. So am I.

  5. Game Night-Movie Review-A completely silly movie@mctiller3042d

    Game Night

Apparently there is a culture of middle-age adults getting together on a regular basis and playing games together, because that is the basic premise of the movie, Game Night.  I am middle-age, but completely unaware that this maybe an actual thing.  But let’s go with it anyway.

Game Night is written by Mark Perez and directed by John Francis Daley and Johnathan Goldstein.

Jason Bateman, who by the way doesn’t seem to age, plays Max a highly competitive game player, and Rachel McAdams plays Annie his wife.  Their cute-met was at a game night in a bar.

We don’t know what these two do for jobs.  You know the things that pay for the games, but that’s not the point.

Max has a brother that he very jealous of, Brooks.  Brooks is a angel investor that makes a lot of money in Calefornia.  Brooks is the cause of a lot of problems.  Max and Annie want to have a baby, but they can’t.  And we learn from a fertility doctor that a jealousy could be a big factor in sperm motility.

Along with these marriage issues, they have a creepy neighbor.  Gary Kingsbury is a cop who is devestated that his wife has left him.  Gary used to be in the game night crew, but ever since the divorce Max and Annie have kept him out.  Played by Jesse Plemons, he gives a great monologe to introduce his character.

I explain these scenes because this is a silly movie.

And it is a funny movie.

Brooks wants to make it up to Max and Annie that they haven’t seen each other for a year, and he hosts “The Game Night to End All Game Nights.”

The plan is to host a kidnapping-murder mystery.

The plan goes arwry when Brooks is capture by actual kidnappers.  Max and Annie, their friends who are also apart of the game night crew, Kevin, Michelle, Ryan, and Sarah, follow the clues that are left by the original kidnapping actor, played Jeffery Wright in a great, but uncredited part.

The movie moves along as the friends separate to solve the game.

At moments the movie recalls old screwball comedies, with fast talking and witty banter.  Then followed by slapstick comedy with wonderful physical comedy.  (I’m trying really hard to not give away any of the jokes.)

The plot swings back and forth, is it a real kidnapping or is not.

Turns out Brooks is really a smuggler and is in deep to a gangster referred to as The Bulgarian, played by Michael C. Hall.

The movie goes over the top when Gary comes to the rescue.  The puzzle only deepens when Gary shows up.  Look for a cool start of the credits scene to give us a little more information on Gary.

    Final Thoughts

If you liked Horrible Bosses and other recent Jason Bateman comedies I would recommend seeing this at the theater.

And if you can't do that, definitely catch this on Netflix.

    End Credits

There are two credits scenes I recommend staying for.  The first scene is at the start of the credits and informs us a little more about Gary..  And the second scene is at the very end of the credits involves Gary’s ex-wife and another side character that is up til now only referred to in the past.

  6. Game Night - Movie Review@coldsteem3045d

    image.png

I love a good comedy. The problem is, good comedies are hard to come by. I wasn't sure what to think about the trailers for Game Night, but I like Jason Bateman. His comedy films are usually pretty good. I figured this film was a low risk for being a flop, and hey, with Moviepass, it didn't cost me anything extra to see it. While there are a couple of Oscar nominated films I have yet to see, I felt in the mood for something lighter yesterday evening.

    image.png

Max (Bateman) is competitive. He takes his gaming serious. Whether it is trivia night at the local bar or game night at the house, he is always in to win. His wife Annie (Rachel McAdams) is as competitive as he is. In fact, they met at trivia night. It was love at first factoid. Max is such a game geek, he proposed to Annie in a game of charades. The couple host a game night at their house on the weekend. The weird cop nextdoor (Jesse Plemons) isn't invited. It's just weird since he broke up with his wife Debbie and...well, he is just weird. When Max's brother Brooks (Kyle Chandler) arrives in town, game night is taken up a notch. That is sort of what Brooks does. He is better at everything than his brother. But everything may not be as it seems.

When Brooks plans game night, he takes the event to a different level, hiring a local company to stage a kidnapping game. However, the game is hijacked, resulting in Brooks being kidnapped by real thugs. As game night escalates, the couple must solve the mystery with the help of their friends. Kevin (Lamorne Morris) and his wife Michelle (Kylie Bunberry) sort out their marital issues while helping solve the mystery. Ryan (Billy Magnussen) usually brings dumb blondes to game night. Tonight, he brings in a ringer, Sarah (Sharon Horgan). But there might just be some chemistry in the cards between the two. Together, the friends must battle bad guys, solve clues and save Brooks. And make the audience chuckle in the process.

    image.png

Game Night is well written. It is an enigma wrapped in a mystery. Or is that a mystery wrapped within an enigma? Whatever the case, the film is engaging. Interesting characters, an intricate plot and rapid fire pacing keep the laughs coming in this surprisingly fresh film. It may have shades of other films, but it is fairly unique. The plot was mildly predictable, but had enough side tracks to keep viewers off balance. In the end, it was a rewarding, fun, film to watch.

    image.png

Jason Bateman has incredible comic timing. He is part straight man, part comic. He can generally make me laugh. He is great with McAdams, who he also has genuine chemistry with. I was buying the whole couple angle. The rest of the cast was packed with talent (to include a cameo by Dexter's Michael C. Hall). But the actor who I think really clinched this film for me was Plemons. He lent an eerie charm to the film with a great performance. Solid casting allowed this film to reach it's potential. As a comedy, it succeeded brilliantly.

    image.png

Game Night is rated R. It has a run time of one hour, forty minutes. The film length felt precise. There was no lagging in this action-packed comedy. The film moved along at a nice clip without getting bogged down in what turned out to be a rather intricate plot. The rating stems from the violence. While there is plenty of sexuality in terms of language and thematic references, the violence has a decent gore factor for a comedy. From gunshots to watching a guy get sucked into a jet engine, there is plenty of blood. And sometimes the attempts to fix things made them worse. There is at least one cringe worthy scene in this film. Language and alcohol may also have affected the ratings. Definitely a teen audience or older film.

    image.png

Game Night was good enough that I would recommend seeing it at the theater. As comedies go, this one was pretty good. It kept me interested throughout. It was a silly premise and was far fetched. But I laughed a lot. Not nearly as much as I laughed at, say, Superbad. But I laughed plenty. The characters were good, the actors were spot on, the script was interesting, and most importantly, I laughed. Not a lot of food for thought, but plenty of action and comedy. 7.5/10.

For the contest #30 which begins today,I chose the movie Game Night (2018) which is directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein which created together the movie Vacation (2015) but also they wrote the script for movies like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (2013), Vacation (2015), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) which after me was a very good movie and I hope that humor will be implemented in this movie too.
