He escuchado varias canciones de James Brown, y ya sabía de lo que fue como artista en su época; sin embargo, al ya haber pasado tantos años, no sabía nada de sus orígenes o como inicio en la música; esta película me permitió dar un vistazo general a su vida. I have listened to several of James Brown's songs, and I already knew what he was like as an artist in his time; however, since so many years have passed, I knew nothing about his origins or how he started in music; this film allowed me to get a general glimpse of his life. Sinopsis: Un niño, James Brown, con una dura infancia irá desarrollando su vida asociado a la música. Tras conocer a su mejor amigo Bobby Bird, formará una banda que le hará conocido a nivel mundial, como el rey del soul. A su vez, vemos cómo su pasado nunca deja de estar presente.

La historia está contada si bien de manera lineal, lo hace con saltos de tiempo, a veces mostrándonos la infancia de James para luego volver a ver cómo se va desarrollando su carrera como música. Este tipo de edición hace dinámica la cinta, y te permite relacionar el accionar de James con su tormentoso pasado.
Although the story is told in a linear fashion, it does so with time jumps, sometimes showing us James' childhood and then returning to see how his career as a musician is developing. This type of editing makes the film dynamic, and allows you to relate James' actions to his stormy past.
Por el lado musical, creo que si bien hay momentos buenos, siento que lo pudieron haber hecho mejor. La parte en que cantan Sex Machine, no me sorprendió, aparte se sintió en falta la canción I feel good. Otro punto que tampoco creo cierra bien, es el tramo final, sintiéndose un tanto inconexo.
On the musical side, I think that while there are some good moments, I feel they could have done better. The part where they sing Sex Machine didn't surprise me, and I felt the song I feel good was missing. Another point that I don't think closes well either, is the final section, feeling a bit disjointed.
Por el lado de la actuación, dejando de lado ciertas canciones, Chadwick Boseman hace un excelente trabajo, incluso cuando se rompe la 4ta pared. La fotografía es destacable en varias partes de la cinta, especialmente cuando se muestra al James niño.
On the acting side, leaving aside certain songs, Chadwick Boseman does an excellent job, even when he breaks the 4th wall. The cinematography is outstanding in several parts of the film, especially when the child James is shown.
En general, es una película buena sin ser espectacular. Que sirve como un buen biopic para conocer al legendario James Brown.
Overall, it's a good film without being spectacular. It serves as a good biopic to get to know the legendary James Brown.
