  1. Greenland 2 | Review [ENG-ESP]@davidpena21116d

Movies with stories about the end of the world tend to have something very interesting about them and can perhaps be seen as a call to action, since many of these productions show the exact moment of catastrophe, the urgency and chaos of survival. That's why Greenland: Migration was recently released as the sequel to a successful film, taking a different approach by telling what happens next. Here, the director revisits the story of the Garrity family on a deeply wounded planet, where survival is no longer a race against time, but a constant struggle to rebuild life.

This second part abandons the pace of the first and becomes an adventure full of action, challenges, and the hope of freedom, despite the fact that the world has few survivors and is cold, silent, full of abandoned cities, scarce resources, and communities trying to reorganize themselves amid uncertainty. This leads us to wonder: Will they be able to continue living a normal life? Will there be no more restrictions? It will be a dangerous journey to a place that promises stability but, as expected, will not be easy to reach.

As this is the second part, everything has already been destroyed, devastated landscapes convey a feeling of permanent loneliness, and the visual design makes the viewer feel the weight of a world that no longer functions as it once did, while at the same time being grateful that there are still people alive. It also highlights what it is like to live locked up day after day in a shelter that no longer seems stable, facing human and natural threats, and maintaining hope when all seems lost, as the years pass and many have been born without being able to see beyond.

Every second of the film becomes much more interesting, and at the same time, that concern grows, as the plot advances along fairly predictable paths within the post-apocalyptic genre: encounters with hostile groups with different ways of thinking, difficult decisions, and obstacles that seem designed more to keep the story moving than to add new layers to it. Although this part seeks to maintain a good pace and, above all, that feeling of family, protection, and how parents have to take risks, as part of the same riskier evolution compared to the first installment.

Each of the protagonists in this new installment plays a major role in bringing emotion to the film, and one of them is Gerard Butler, who once again carries the story as one of the main characters. He also has a very good, solid, and credible personality as a father willing to do anything for his family, since they have not had the best of times while locked up. The family relationship remains the emotional heart of the film, although on this occasion the script does not always delve deeply enough into the characters' internal conflicts, remaining at times more functional than truly memorable.

It is a decent sequel, arriving at the right time to finish what had already begun. Visually solid, it seeks to create something different within the genre. It is an intense journey that reminds us that, even in the worst possible scenario, hope remains the most valuable resource, as does human resilience and the idea that the real challenge is not to survive the disaster, but to learn to live after it.

  2. Greenland 2 - A predictable road movie straight out of Temu [ENG/SPA]@danielcarrerag144d

Was a sequel to Greenland even necessary? To be honest, the short answer is a resounding "no." With Ric Roman Waugh returning to the director's chair, Greenland: Migration (or Greenland 2) picks up five years after the events of the first film. The Garrity family—with Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin reprising their roles—is now living in the bunker they fought so hard to reach. But life inside is bleak: food is scarce, equipment is failing, and the air outside has turned toxic.

    1000270440.png

The "climax" kicks off when a massive earthquake and a subsequent tsunami destroy the bunker, forcing the survivors on a near-impossible journey toward France. Their goal? The crater of the largest meteor impact, where they hope to find clean air. It’s a real shame the "bunker life" subplot wasn't explored further; they could have leaned into the vibes of shows like The 100 or Silo. Instead, they opted for a mediocre, algorithmic byproduct.

It’s honestly shocking how poor the writing is this time around. Chris Sparling wrote both films, but while the first one hooked you with its grounded, realistic survival premise, this sequel relies on implausible luck. The Garritys survive wars and disasters as if it were nothing. Furthermore, Butler’s character has evolved from a regular engineer into a "Superman" or Rambo-type figure, capable of fixing ships, weapons, and plumbing with a level of expertise that kills any sense of realism.

On the technical side, I’m torn. The cinematography is decent at times—the post-apocalyptic landscapes and the glimpses of new life are striking—but the CGI is some of the worst I’ve seen in a while. For instance, in the crater scene, I’m convinced an AI could have come up with something better. Even though the movie isn't long, these flaws make it feel like a drag. It’s a repetitive, predictable road movie that wastes its supporting characters and feels forced—like a low-quality knockoff from Temu.

  3. Greenland, chaos at the end of the world@ismaca534d
    [Image](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=688457)

This is a sci-fi action film directed by Ric Roman Waugh, released in 2020. The plot centers on the imminent threat of a comet heading towards Earth, leading to global chaos and a race against time to survive.

The story follows John Garrity (played by Gerard Butler), a structural engineer who, at the beginning of the film, seems to lead a normal life with his wife, Allison (played by Morena Baccarin), and son, Nathan (played by Roger Dale Floyd).

However, his life takes a drastic turn when it is announced that a comet named “Clarity” is on a collision course with Earth. As the comet approaches, panic and chaos break out around the world, and authorities begin evacuating the population to safe havens.

John and his family receive notification that they have been selected to be evacuated to a bunker in Greenland, where they can survive the comet's impact. However, the situation becomes complicated when they encounter a series of obstacles on their way to the shelter.

    [Image](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=688457)

As they try to reach their destination, they must face the distrust of other survivors, the desperation of the population and the imminent destruction caused by the comet.

The film unfolds against a backdrop of mounting tension and desperation, where the Garrity family is forced to make difficult decisions in order to survive.

Along their journey, they encounter other characters who represent different aspects of human nature in crisis situations.

Some are supportive and altruistic, while others become antagonists, willing to do whatever it takes to save themselves.

    [Image](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=688457)

One of the central themes of “Greenland” is the struggle for family unity in the midst of chaos. John and Allison must overcome their differences and work together to protect their son, while the threat of the comet becomes a symbol of the fragility of life.

The film also addresses the importance of hope and perseverance, showing how people can find the strength to keep going even in the most desperate circumstances.

The pace of the film is intense, with thrilling action sequences and tense moments that keep the viewer on the edge of their seat.

Visually, “Greenland” features impressive special effects depicting the devastation caused by the comet and its fragments as they impact Earth.

The cinematography captures both the beauty of the landscape and the desolation of the ruined cities, creating a contrast that highlights the magnitude of the catastrophe.

    English Version

Yes, another End of the World Movie 😂. Sometimes I think NASA just send us messages through those movies and they really have seen that big Meteor ☄️ heading to earth, they just don't tell us anything, because it's still far away, there is no alarming approach and they don't want to "worry" us, but they do make us see it in movies, then they say like: We show it to you in many ways hahaha.

    image.png

    English Version

There are things to rescue from this film, the first is that I like to see the actor Gerard Butler, in a different facet, as a father and family, also playing an excellent role. In this film, John is a well known architect, who has problems with his wife, at the beginning you don't know why or since when, but in a part of the film you understand their situation better. He has a 7 year old son, who is also diabetic.

The family is having a party or get-together with friends, so John has to go with his son to the shop to buy some things that are needed and yes, some more beers for the adults. It is worth noting that as the film unfolds, we will see how on the news and even in schools, they talk about the big meteorite and it even has a name, but nobody mentions that it is likely to have an impact on earth, so everyone acts normal. In the shop John gets a super weird message, which is also broadcast on his TV at home, but his wife, who was at home, doesn't get to see it.

    image.png

    image.png

    English Version

It is time to return home after that message and while they are there, the action begins, but by now the neighbours and friends are on the scene, so after the first impact they all manage to hear the message that John receives once again. They have been chosen, while the others notice that they haven't, so the desperation is noticeable. and

And one of the things I like about this film, unlike others, is that they don't take anyone with them 🤣, as the chosen ones are only them and John says something important: "if we take her, then if we don't let her in, we'll have to leave her alone", referring to a neighbour friend of his son.

The film caused me some anxiety, especially because of the child and some of the events that happen with him, which are quite worrying and in which I, as a mother, would have despaired a lot. But the rest is more of the same about these films. A shelter, planes or boats that are only taking up the chosen ones, chosen ones hahaha, who can't be sick, and the struggle to get to that last shelter before the big impact.

    [Source](https://thewhshatchet.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/greenland-768x432.jpeg)

Hello friends, I'm here with another interesting movie titled Greenland and I would like to share with you.

The movie is about a man that, to save his family from a catastrophic end of times, John embarks on a risky quest to locate the last hope for salvation and witnesses the worst of mankind in the battle for survival.

It begins, A near-earth passing of a recently discovered interstellar comet named “Clarke” is expected to occur.

Structural engineer John Garrity lives in Atlanta, Georgia, USA with his estranged wife, Allison, and their diabetic son.

John plans to watch the televised expected impact of a fragment of the comet in the Atlantic Ocean near Bermuda, along with his family and neighbors.

John receives an automated Department of Homeland security (DHS) message saying that he and his family have been selected for emergency sheltering just after a comet fragment is seen entering the atmosphere on live television.

Instead of landing in the ocean, the fragment strikes Tampa, Florida, vaporizing the city and much of the state; it is revealed that Clarke is actually on a direct collision course with Earth.

The entire planet will be bombarded with hundreds of fragments over the next two days, culminating in a strike by a fragment large enough to cause an extinction-level event.

John receives a call with instructions to head to Robins Air force base with his family for an evacuation flight; he is the only resident of the neighborhood to get this call.

John, Allison, and Nathan quickly pack up and leave for the base, taking no one else with them as none but them would be allowed to board.

At Robins Air Force Base, Nathan's insulin is left behind in the car.

As John goes to retrieve it, Allison is escorted off the base after Nathan's medical condition is discovered, disqualifying him.

John returns and boards a plane, but quickly disembarks on realizing Allison and Nathan were left behind.

As John exits the base, a panicked mob breaks in, destroying several evacuation planes when gunfire ignites jet fuel.

Returning to the car, John finds a note from Allison saying she and Nathan are going to her father's home in Lexington, Kentucky.

After getting medical supplies from a looted store, Allison and Nathan get a ride from Ralph and Judy Vento only for Ralph to throw Allison out of the car, to take her wristband and kidnap Nathan to use him and the wristbands to board a flight.

John hitches a ride on a truck where a young man named Colin says it is headed to Osgood, Ontario, Canada where private planes are flying to Greenland, the apparent evacuation site.

However, another man attempts to take John's wristband, causing the truck to crash, killing Colin, and John is forced to kill the other man in self-defense.

At another airport, the Ventos attempt to pose as Nathan's parents, but are arrested when the military discovers he is not their child.

Allison and Nathan are reunited shortly after at a nearby Federal Emergency Managements Agency (FEMA) camp.

The following morning, John learns from televised news reports that millions of people have died in fragment strikes worldwide and that the largest fragment will hit in approximately 24 hours.

Stealing a car, John reaches his elderly father-in-law Dale's house, and Nathan and Allison arrive shortly after.

The family learn about a complex of underground bunkers near pituffik space Base in Greenland, where the evacuees are being sent. They have just enough time to reach Osgood.

John and Allison try to persuade Dale to go with them, but he refuses, content to meet the end of his days in his home when the largest fragment strikes. He gives the family his truck and bids them farewell.

Find out what happened next as Dale refuses to go with them and gives the family his truck and bids them farewell as the movie gets interesting.

    Thanks for reading my post.

  6. Gerard Butler's Greenland (2020) || Movie Review.@esther-emmanuel1028d

    IMG_20230901_184839.jpg

Movies that are set in apocalyptic times give anxiety and it's kind of interesting to watch. I enjoyed them a lot. Before seeing Greenland, I had already watched 'Geostorm (2017)'. The movie disappointed me and it was painful because Gerard Butler, one of my favorite actors, starred as the main character in the movie. So when I decide to watch this movie, I thought it was going to be like 'Geostorm' but actually it ended up surprising me I'm the end regardless of the fact that it is a half-lower budget film. Normally, we don't get surprises from those kinds of movies.

'Greenland' is an apocalyptic disaster movie that was written by Chris Sparling and directed by Ric Roman Waugh. The story of the movie revolves around a family who are struggling to survive a catastrophic natural disaster that has claim thousand of life. The movie starred Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, Roger Dale Floyd, David Denman, Hope Davis, and Scott Glenn.

    Brief Summary.

    IMG_20230904_174040.jpg

    IMG_20230904_173454.jpg

John Garrity, structural engineer who lives with his estranged wife, Allison and diabetic son Nathan in Georgia came home to celebrate his son's birthday. Spending some time with his son he got to also watch the news of the recently discovered interstellar comet named "Clarke" which is fast approaching the earth's atmosphere. Not long, Allison asks him to go get some groceries for Nathan's birthday.

John and his son went to the grocery store to get what they needed. While shopping, John received an automatic call and message from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) saying that he and his family members have been selected for emergency shelter. Quickly John leaves the store and goes back home only for him to see on the news that a comet had entered the atmosphere and is likely landed near a sea.

    IMG_20230904_174145.jpg

However, the comet landed in Tampa which affected the whole city and the impact spread through Georgia city too. Simultaneously John received the same automated message from the DHS which was clearly this time around displayed on his TV with more details and private pass for John and his family to have access to the emergency he was promised earlier. Immediately, John took his wife and son to the military base he was directed to for safety. Will they make it to the military base? Will John and his family survive the apocalyptic disaster that is about to happen?

    The Main Characters.

The Cast of this movie was well selected and their performance was fantastic. Though, throughout the movie, concentration was more on the three main than the disaster. So I will briefly talk about three main characters who in fact the storyline of the movie revolves around.

    John Garrity (Gerard Butler)

    IMG_20230904_173933.jpg

Butler is the central character of this movie. He played the role of a loving and committed father who is also having some relationship challenges with his wife. Throughout the movie, Butler's role wasn't stagnant but it kept changing as the apocalyptic disaster unfolded leaving many dead in its path. I enjoyed his role and performance a lot because He transformed from a distant father/husband to a devoted and loving man to his family with his determination to keep his family safe at all cost.

    Allison Garrity (Morena Baccarin)

    IMG_20230904_173654.jpg

Morena's character in this movie was a woman who was struggling with her emotions and mental health as she separated from John. As the apocalyptic disaster starts, Morena had to set aside her emotions and grudges to keep her family safe. Her performance was okay and manageable for me because throughout the movie I couldn't really connect with her as there was no back story as to why she wanted a separation from John. To me, I didn't really pay any attention to her throughout the movie.

    Nathan Garrity (Roger Dale Floyd)

    IMG_20230904_174010.jpg

Nathan's role was amazing for me. His performance was unexpectedly convincing because he blended with his character well and was able to portray every emotion a child of his will portrayed in such a situation. But then, a scene made me angry with his character because without the scene his parents wouldn't have struggled to stay safe to the extent they put themselves at risk of getting killed. Regardless, his character was at the center of the movie.

Other supporting characters were good, their brief presence was felt throughout the movie and they were all introduced in the movie's flow seamlessly without any disruption to the scene arrangements.

    My Review And Rating.

This movie was entertaining to me because it didn't concentrate on the CGI of the disaster; instead, it concentrated on the three main characters and the nature of humans. Though the storyline of the movie is not new to us as there are many apocalyptic movies we have seen, this movie's storyline was told from the perspective of the three main characters in a unique way.

As the story of the movie is told from the perspective of the three main characters, I was able to connect with the arc of the story like I was experiencing what the characters were experiencing too. Because of this unique storytelling, this movie was fully packed with the emotional effect of a catastrophic event, the tension of experiencing such events and lastly it adequately portrayed both the best and worst of human nature in times of such events.

The director did an amazing job with the movie because every scene portrayed appropriate human emotions which makes it all realistic. . The director also made sure to make the disaster scene sequences feel realistic, terrifying and convincing. All the scenes were arranged well to blend with the storyline of the movie. Also, the setting of the movie was good regardless of the fact that there were various settings like the road trip, suburban life and government shelter.

The visuals were okay, but the CGI was not really convincing because it was mild and inconsistent but it was an average work. The movie was entertaining and enjoyable for me. It is a movie that I watched once and forgot that I did because it didn't give me a lasting impression. The ending was not satisfying for me but I hope the next sequel that is in the works will be better.

Rating this movie, I will give it 6.5 out of 10 stars. It is a family entertainment movie and it's averagely interesting. I would recommend this movie if you want to just have fun and relax with a little bit of tension. Have you seen the Greenland movie before? What's your take on the movie?

    My Opinion / Mi Opinión

This isn't the best disaster movie I've seen, but I'd say it was pretty good. I'm not a big fan of these movies but, during the quarantine since we had to stay at home and here in Venezuela we ran out of DirecTV so I started looking for movies to watch and we found this one interesting and we watched it as a family. The work of the cast in general was good since the characters are well developed, although I would say that the one I liked the most was John Garrity, because I used to finding Gerard Butler in this type of film and I think it's very good, because they are my dad's favorites, and he has seen several movies with this actor among the cast.

I liked the photography a lot, as well as the special effects which were up to the task. The story is also very interesting and engaging since it shows in a very real way what it would be like to experience a tragedy like this, the despair of the people and the chaos that this causes, so it is easy to get into the movie and that is a point in favor. Throughout the film there are many parts that caught my attention but I remember that the scene that struck me the most is when Allison Garrity (the protagonist's wife) goes into a store to get insulin for her son and suddenly looters come in killing many people, but she manages to escape with her son. Although as I said before, I'm not a big fan of this type of film and this is not the best film of the genre that I have seen, I would say that it was very good and we spent a good time watching it. I would very much like to recommend it to all my readers who have not seen it yet, I hope you enjoy it.

  8. Greenland: Another "end of the world film" with nothing original to offer@netflixr1481d

There was a time not all that long ago that apocalyptic films were all the rage. It seemed like there were several big-budget versions of exactly the same premise coming out every year. You may recall when Deep Impact and Armageddon came out in the same year and were essentially exactly the same movie. The only real difference was the Armageddon focused an awful lot on a love story whereas Deep Impact was somewhat focused on an unrealistic teenage romance.

I thought both of those films were pretty decent but then just like Hollywood always does, they went too far with it and kept beating the horse after it was long dead.

It's been a while since a film of this sort was made and I was kind of surprised to find out that Gerard Butler signed on for this. I guess he chases a paycheck just like anyone else.

    image.png src

Before I get too judgmental I suppose I should go ahead and admit that there isn't really a whole lot that I can think of in how a film about the "end of the world" could not borrow aspects from films with similar themes. There's only so many plot lines that something like this could follow.

At least in this one they kind of get straight to the action and don't spend a ton of time building up and wasting time with filler. Basically, we are told at the start that a comet is going to pass very closely by earth and at first people are excited about it because it is going to be lovely or something. As you can expect the scientists were horribly wrong and their predictions that tiny parts of it were going to burn up in the atmosphere was way off and one of the first bits that hit the earth completely destroys a large part of Florida.

    [src](https://cloudfront-us-east-1.images.arcpublishing.com/tronc/CO53RTJUC5APLHCZPFLQPBC6XU.png)

As you would imagine, global panic sets in and things start to get chaotic. John Garrity (Butler) receives a text with details on how he has been selected to go to a survival bunker along with his family members but the bad thing about this is that none of his friends or other family have been selected. Word travels quickly where the pickup points are and soon the masses of unselected people swarm these areas and cause more chaos. I suppose it is somewhat interesting but a big problem that I have with this portion of the film is that we are time and time again subjected to what I consider to be very lazy storytelling in that the tension is created for Garrity's family because they keep encountering traffic jam after traffic jam.

    image.png src

Eventually and predictably they miss their flight because of the masses of people not selected that are mucking things up for the people that do have permission to go to the bunkers. In one particularly tragic moment when the people are shouting at the military about the fact that they are giving all the people a death sentence a higher ranking soldier points out to the masses that 99% of the military were not selected either.

So I'll go ahead and spoil the ending but you shouldn't be upset with me because this is a Hollywood film and this much would be obvious anyway: The family makes it to the bunker in the nick of time - just like every other film that has ever been made like this.

    Should I watch it?

For fans of these sorts of film I suppose this could be considered passable as mindless entertainment. The acting is pretty solid on the part of all involved including the child actor and newcomer Roger Floyd. This is always a surprise to me when this happens because I never expect much from child actors and generally find that they are mostly pretty bad.

Literally nothing original happens in this film and it is just a sequence of frustrating events that keep the Garrity family from reaching the place they need to be... over and over. I will admit that I skipped large portions of the film probably starting at the 14th traffic jam they encounter. It might be ok to have on in the background and I guess I can appreciate the fact that they made the impact sequences look pretty realistic considering the rather small budget of $35 million.

This one could go either way but it certainly isn't going to be winning any awards. I will likely look forward to the planned sequel about what the world is like with 99% of the population wiped out but I don't think you would need to actually have watched this film in order to understand the eventual part 2.

    Miedo A Un Gran Desastre

    Greenland

    [English Version]

Hello Hivers movie and series lovers, I have recently had the opportunity to review some productions in the Amazon Prime streaming service, I wanted to analyze several of their productions and the quality of them, in this process I'm just starting, however, I have come across interesting productions and gradually I will be reviewing the movies that can be enjoyed by purchasing this service. This time I want to analyze a film that although it has a little over a year since its release I had not been able to see, I speak of the film: Greenland.

    Source

Just as I mentioned in the previous paragraph this movie is released in 2020, specifically on September 25 of that year, at the time of making this post a little over a year has passed but in particular I had let it go. I found this movie on Amazon's Streaming service as The Day at the End of the World (perhaps not the most original title), but it is also known in some regions as Greenland: The Last Refuge. It is a production that almost reaches two hours long, is it worth investing two hours to watch this movie, I will try to answer that question based on my personal opinion and so as usual I will give it a score at the end of the post.

    Synopsis:

A newly discovered Comet approaches the earth and due to effects caused by its approach to the sun it splits and deflects towards the earth, causing a wave of panic due to the possible extinction of the human race and other forms of life on earth. The Garrity family must survive the growing anarchy spreading across the country and get to safety before the comet touches the planet's surface and wipes out much of the life on this world.

    Movie Analysis

    Story

I must confess that I love stories about natural disasters, I think it is a genre that captures the attention of millions of viewers around the world and I remember great productions within this genre, some great and some disappointing but it is undeniable that this kind of stories are very attractive and commercially profitable for production houses.

    Fear Of A Great Disaster

This type of movies takes advantage of a certain fear that humanity has of a natural disaster that will cause the extinction of life on earth, since time immemorial this fear has coexisted with our cultures around the world, we do not know when the end will be, however, a pandemic (something like a fictional movie) has shown us that what we see in movies could happen in real life isn't it?

    Source

    Family Drama

The film presents us with a different story in terms of several productions of natural disasters that almost eradicate the existence of life on the planet, in many of those famous movies the plot revolves around the authorities, high ranking government officials or falls on the scientists who discover that phenomenon or that threat that endangers the existence of humanity, However, this film presents us with something different, we will never see a high official explaining what is happening or the discovery years before he comments that will impact the earth, simply appears almost out of nowhere and we enter into the life of an American family who knows nothing more than what can be seen in the images and news on television.

    image.png.

    Source.

The production is set in a family drama that of course is affected by various conditions caused by the panic of extinction and the sudden fall of fragments of the comenta that cause huge destruction, events that can cause people to perform unthinkable and inhumane acts for their own survival. The family drama is marked from beginning to end and is the focus of this film rather than any scientific explanation or action within the film.

    Source.

It is a story that works and the plot makes you feel emotions throughout the minutes of duration of this movie, perhaps the combination of the facts linked to a family drama makes it work and emotions and feelings are adequately conveyed in many of the scenes of this movie.

    Acting

Being honest I have always liked the performances of Gerard Butler, he seems to me of those actors who are introduced in a type of characters but they do it in a fantastic way and always meets in terms of the quality of their performances, this time does not disappoint and we can say that it is properly introduced in the character that at first glance we can notice that it is according to the actor.

    Source

Normally in these types of films with a steady pace and with extinction crossing the corner the acting is not as relevant as other aspects such as visual effects and such, however, it seems to me that it achieves the goal in terms of acting considering that the plot revolves around a family drama.

    Visual Effects

As I have mentioned many times in this community I like to observe this kind of technical work in productions. In this film the visual effects are not as constant or impressive as in other productions of previous years, throughout the two hours of duration we will observe few relevant explosions that can impress us compared to other productions of the genre decreases the frequency in the use of visual effects, however, this aspect in a way is compensated with the story anchored to a family drama, a plot in which it is not necessary to abuse explosions and deaths.

    image.png

    Source.

At times we see scenes of devastated cities or the comet falling from the atmosphere, also a good photography in some landscapes, on the other hand I must say that although there are few sequences where visual effects are observed we can say that they are decent but not impressive or revolutionary, in my opinion in this technological age we should see more advanced and impressive visual effects, however, it is necessary to mention that this production had a budget of 35 million dollars.

For a better perspective of this aspect we must remember the famous movie 2012, a movie of the disaster genre remembered for its great and impressive visual effects, this production had a budget of approximately 200 million dollars, so a movie of 35 million evidently will not present us the same technical quality in terms of this type of visual effects.

    image.png

    Source.

    Rating:

    7.6 ⭐

    Final Opinion.

I love this kind of stories of disasters that can cause the extinction of life on the planet, since I was a child I have always liked this kind of movies, but this production has a special approach anchored to a family drama, without any objective explanation of what happens, we simply get into the events that occur and affect this family. This change of direction compared to other productions allows it to limit the amount of visual effects within the film, something we always expect to see within the disaster genre, however, the drama and story around the Garrity family make up for the lack of great visual effects on a consistent basis. I must say that the performances and the structure of the script are an essential part of our enjoyment of this film.

    Source.

    Do I recommend it?

Yes, even if you are not a fan of the disaster genre the plot is interesting to enjoy during the two hours of the film, it seems to me that if it is worth investing that time in this production as it guarantees entertainment, of course I say this according to my personal appreciation, however, I think that the general public can like this production.

It is a pleasure to write for this community, I hope this post is a good reference for this production. If anyone has seen this film I invite you to leave your comment with your opinion about it.

  10. Greenland (2020) review: 2012 but make it different.@richardalexis1870d

    Separador.png

Greenland is a film that operates under fairly predictable margins, but is incredibly effective at conveying the sentiments it pursues.

    Source

Since 2012 I do not think I am the only one who became obsessed with the idea of the end of the world and more specifically, as it is often portrayed in different art forms, in a sea of optimistic and pessimistic visions, it is always interesting to see our nature as a survivor in a of these extreme situations.

Works like The Last Of Us of Fallout in the world of videogames seem rather determined to show us life after the tragedy, the events after the fall of society as we know it, but Greenland focus on that loss, the most animal moment.

    Source

With a rather fast and suffocating pace, Greenland does not have the heart to enter into moral or philosophical discussions about what is correct, do we let others die to maintain the integrity of our family? And although it is painful, an angle of this type ends up being refreshing, realistic and very consistent with the actions of many -I include myself-, apart from the meteors, it could be said that the most terrifying thing about the film is the elitism that ends up deciding who is saved in the bunkers and who doesn't.

The special effects range from the incredible to the simple, in general they serve the purpose of reinforcing the anxiety emanating from the tape.

    Source

Very well acted and with a plot so simple that it is difficult to highlight some kind of hole or error.

The predictability of the film could be criticized but it is to expect a lot from a work that grants precisely what it offers, more than recommended to entertain -and surprisingly involve the feelings- for a while.

    Separador.png

    Source

    Separador.png

    Source

  11. Greenland (7.5/10)- "Listen, I just got one of those Presidential Alerts. Did you get one?"@dedicatedguy2035d

    image.png

    Source

I don't remember when was the last time I saw a movie about a natural disaster, but this type of film tend to be fun as long as their budget is high enough for the good CGI. Some of the best movies about natural disasters are The Day After Tomorrow and 2012. Now, we can add Greenland to the list.

This time the disaster isn't a supervolcano or massive climate change that turns everything into ice. If you take a good look at the poster above you can notice this disaster comes from space, it's asteroids, like the one that killed the dinosaurs.

This movie wasn't as shocking as the ones I mentioned before but age is probably a factor when it comes to the level of shock this type of movie can cause the viewers. In the story, we follow a marriage played by Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin and both of them made a great job with their roles.

    1.jpg

    Source

In the beginning, they are preparing for a dinner party with some of their friends, and coincidentally, every time the husband receives an alert on his phone, it is showed on the tv as well. With a bunch of friends over you can guess the chaos that ensued, especially because this couple was luckier than most regarding the type of alert they received.

When the world is ending there aren't rules anymore. Riots and widespread violence will inevitably happen and there will be several scenes showing how society breaks down. There is an extremely silly mistake from the 2 parents when they are trying to escape the apocalypse that changes everything for them, and it is this silly mistake that the one thing I find most annoying. I mean, if you are leaving everything behind, the least you can do when getting out of the car is to check you aren't leaving something important in the car. Without this silly mistake, most of the drama they suffered throughout the movie would have been avoided.

If you enjoyed the 2 similar movies I mentioned before make sure to see this one as well. If the natural, and in this case, cosmic disaster is scientifically accurate or not, I don't think it matters. The film is just meant to entertain and it certainly does.

    2.jpg

    Source

    The best

    • It wasn't an experience as intense as the other 2 similar movies from previous years, but it was well worth the watch nonetheless.

    The worst

    • There are a few mistakes from the characters and coincidences that were hard to believe.
