When I think about the notion of a "bad movie" it is inevitable that hundreds of different answers come to mind, mostly trying to address the intrinsic difficulty of measuring the quality of a film in objective terms.

Honestly, when I hear typical pretentious viewers ripping out their routine rants against Adam Sandler, it makes me a little uncomfortable, not only because said actor has been behind excellent projects throughout his career, but because even his flops are worthless. artistic ends up being sources of abundant entertainment.

In the midst of this nightmare in terms of reception, Grown Ups emerges, a rather uninhibited work that reviews the passage of friendship in a simple but extremely realistic way.

Although in terms of narrative complexity we can hardly extract any kind of deep theme or teaching, what elevates Grown Ups as one of the most effective comedies of the last two decades is its ability to fit perfectly with an almost slice of slice premise where We follow a group of young adults as they vacation at a lake house that allows them to relive their sweet childhood together. You see, by means of a solid cast full of comedy giants like Kevin James, David Spade or Chris Rock, there is something in the synergy of its protagonists mixed with the organicity of its own script that allows us to identify very well with what we're looking at, with evolving away from certain people and then reconnecting with them again, I understand that's what brought us together in the first place.

Grown Ups' comedy doesn't do anything extremely experimental or risky, but for the most part it lands very well and it's not hard to see why, as it comes through dynamics we've all experienced.

This, in my opinion, is an aspect of this film that critics often completely ignore. It is important that we understand the objective that Grown Ups pursues. For me, for example, it is a nostalgic portrait of childhood, a time in our lives that was characterized by its simplicity. Is it vulgar and banal? Totally, but seeing it from the front allows us to approach the problems of our current life from another perspective, without less worries and a little more relaxed.

One day you're a kid and the next you're an immature "adult" to many, just because you act like a kid haha.

It turns out that when you live a full childhood, full of games with friends, laughter and mischief, those memories are unforgettable, to the point that if you have the chance to live them again you will do it and enjoy it to the fullest, that's what happened with this group of friends.

These "adults" lived a childhood full of many adventures, where they had to defend each other from the bad guys. When they graduated from school and grew up, each one took a different direction and made their own lives.

After 20 years, they met again at the funeral of their basketball coach and here I remember the times I used to go to funerals with my friends, it was horrible, always someone would make a joke or something would happen that made us laugh and for those who suffer the pain of loss, it's not funny at all.

Just knowing that Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Kevin James, Chris Rock, you know it's going to be a complete mess and then you see the beautiful Salma Hayek and you say: "I definitely have to see her".

After the first meeting, they decide to go away together for a different weekend, in the company of their children. Adam Sandler, who in the film is called "Hollywood" because of his job and being the oddball of the group, really wants to spend those days at the lake house, to take his kids out of the world of technology and get them involved in games like the ones he used to know.

This happens to us a lot, we are the generation of the 90s, those of us who played with flying, metras, spinning tops, we jumped from a rope into the river hahaha and well, at least me, if I did crazy things like that in my time it was too much fun.

Nowadays, children live in a world of glass and very glued to technology, where they don't know the adrenaline of breaking a knee or an elbow and sneaking home, so that our mum wouldn't see us and hit us hahaha, something that our children will probably never know what it is.

XD

When there are many women, children and immature adults or adults who behave like children together, there will undoubtedly be arguments, misunderstandings but also many laughs and good times, it happens in real life and also in films.

A fashion fanatic, who doesn't want to be there and has work to do, a pregnant woman who carries her mother who is not at all discreet, an old woman who is the wife of one of her thirty-something friends and a bunch of children, in a single house, where peace and quiet undoubtedly reigned. Yes, of course! XD

    image.png Source

The truth is that these friends have a great time and not only enjoy each other, but also teach their children to enjoy nature and not to be dependent on technology.

The best part is when they meet their opposing and "enemy" basketball team and decide to play again like in the old days.

This movie is very good despite the criticisms it may have, as they are a mess and a bit rude, but for me it was great.

Imagine being able to meet up with old friends again, surely it won't be serious, or at least not in my case, and of course, after breaking the ice, because of the years we haven't seen each other.

Adam Sandler's films will always be recommended by me, except for "Pixels", which I didn't like, because of the graphics, which I found rather dark and not at all pleasing to my eyes.

There are 2 of these, They're like children, they wanted to make the 3rd but due to the unfortunate death of the actor Cameron Boyce, who played the role of Keithie, son of Lenny (Hollywood), a young actor, that left many devastated.

    image.png Source

They are like children in my opinion, it is a film that every parent should see and would like to live, because when you have children you put aside many things and on the other hand, you forget certain priorities. Besides the laughs and crazy moments, it also leaves you with some reflections.

  3. Grown ups (film): just shows Sandler can make money with anything@gooddream2843d

While i don't necessarily think it is Sandler's fault, this movie is just bad - and when i say bad i mean it isn't funny.

    grownups4_wallpaper_1280x1024.jpg

This just seems like the usual Sandler charity benefit for all his pals who can't seem to pull of movies on their own. Sandler doesn't need them in order to make money but as is typical he is always injecting the usual suspects as his co stars. I guess that is pretty awesome for him as a pal, but that doesn't mean that the film is going to be any good.

I realize that this is an adult "coming of age" type movie which probably reflects how Sandler and his buddies (and really anyone who goes through mid-life) feel when we see ourselves transition and reluctantly must grow up.

    maxresdefault.jpg

A lot of the jokes are what would be described as toilet humor, and i'm not gonna say that Sandler definitely shouldn't do that, because it is kind of a big part of what makes him who he is. The script is pretty dumb and most of the jokes aren't funny.

Regardless of how I feel about it - or essentially anyone else in the professional critic world feels, this film made over 200 million dollars and I can't help but just shake my head in disbelief that this is possible. As i have said many times before, all of Sandler's movies, including the abhorrent Jack and Jill make tens to hundreds of millions of dollars and his attempts at any other formula (which are far better movies) routinely make very little or actually lose money.

I would consider this one of the largest flops in the comedy genre when you consider the star power that it contained. I will give a few points because there are occasional chuckle moments and I dig David Spade. However, that's about all i can do.
