Its time to review one of my favorite series of all time Guardian: The Lonely and Great God.
First of all lets say the series is a Korean series. I love korean cinema and recently I watched over 100 Korean series. To me Koreans do something that Europe doesn't - they can turn a simple scene into a wonderful moment. For example: When two people just walk or they talk, they don't do anything, but the scenery, the soundtrack, the dialogues. Simple scene but its so emotionaly deep, Koreans are masters at doing show from nothing, each moment is filled with insane vibes. I started with a general talk about Korean cinema, so its time to move forward.
What is Guardian: The Lonely and Great God about?
Action in this series happens in both eras: Goryeo era(medieval times) and modern day South Korea. It starts with a main character Kim Shin, he has been doing everything for the king and his country, but for some reason the king is jelaous of him, the king sends him to all battles hoping hes gonna die, but he keeps winning, the people in country have a lot of respect for Kim Shin, thats why the king is jelaous. He wants all attention on him and Kim Shin is taking this attention away from King. The King decides to sentence Kim Shin for death as a traitor and the best warrior Kim Shin dies from the king order. What happens then is a kid prayed to the God and somehow it brought back Kim Shin to live, hes new nickname is Goblin. Kim Shin (Goblin) possessed an immortal body and super natural powers based on a korean mithology. He has been living for over 900 years, he saw many people dying before him, his friends, people close to him. He had to endure a lot and he doesn't want to live anymore, living for over 900 years was too hard for him but the only way for him to die is to find a girl who then is gonna kill him. There is only one girl who is able to end his miserable life except that his immortal. From then the action happens in modern day South Korea and things complicate once he fall in love with the one that has to end his life. Why do I love this series?
First of all the concept of immortality: I allways thought that I would like to be immortal, but when I watched this show I saw being immortal is not exactly a good thing. People around you gonna die, and you will have to watch and observe how all your close friends die. This is very emotional and made this series one of top picks for me.
Second thing the happines and sadness. The series is so good at doing both, it once makes you happy, to then make you sad, to then make you happy and then sad again. Its an emotional rollercoaster.

Third thing: The fact that he has to fall in love to then be killed by his love. Isn't that cruel? Doesn't that make you curious how it ends?
Fourth thing: Characters and the chemistry between them, its honestly insane how nice characters are in this series, they are all mysterious and funny. I don't think there is a single character I didn't like. I liked them all and all of them had some purpose in the series.
Fifth thing: Music - its really amazing, I love all the soundtracks, they keep constantly playing and they make watching this series so enjoyable.
Sixth thing: Scenery it shows many beautiful places in Goryeo times, Modern day South Korea but also Canada. Some of the places where the series was recorded are available for Tourist in Korea. It is marked on google map as a "Goblin recording place". Many people come to see those beautiful places from series.

Seventh thing: Gong Yoo - this is my favorite actor, he played not only in this series but also had a big role in Squid Game, he was playing the recruiter and everyone loved his acting in both Squid Game and Goblin. People say Gong Yoo in Korea is like an European Keanu Reeves. I wouldn't compare them, but many people do this and as a Gong Yoo fan I'm proud that people compare him to Keanu Reeves, as Keanu is my favorite European actor.

Eight thing: Romance - I love Romance and in this series romance is on a highest level, like the fact that there are not only one couple but two. It is very nice to have two couples to cheer for.
Ninth thing: Ji Eun Tak and Goblin couple is the best thing that could happen. Ji Eun Tak is a girl with a lot of happy energy and Goblin aura is sad. I was often thinking when I was sad that I would like to have a gf like Ji Eun Tak who makes me smile and destroys the darkness within me.

Tenth thing: Bromance - yes. The bromance between Goblin and Grim Reaper. I love their acting and their relation for me is peak friendship. Those guys together are so funny, they are masters of comedy and they know how to make you smile. I would love to have a friendship like this in real life.

Eleventh thing: Fashion - Goblin had some insane old money, elegant style fashion, the characters dressed in a long coats, turtle necks sweaters. Tbh I stole this idea and I started to dress the same IRL. I love Fashion in Goblin. Some people even say that this series started a trend, many people started to dress like in the series especially in Korea.

So basically thats all the points why I love this series. I could write for hours about this series but it would be hard to go on without any spoilers. At the end I will show you who is responsible for this series and what genre it exactly is along with my final score and last words.
Screenwriter: Kim Eun Sook
Director: Lee Eung Bok
Genres: Comedy, Romance, Fantasy, Melodrama
My final score is:
Soundtracks: 10
Characters: 10
Story: 10
Scenery: 10
Making it overall a 10/10.
