  1. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Sotsu 「ひぐらしのなく頃に卒 」 Higurashi: When They Cry – SOTSU (2021, 15 episodes)@onlyjob502d

A murderous psychopathic slasher gore-fest aimed at traumatising viewers. A young 13-years old girl is a psycho, brutally killing unsuspecting people who are disarmed by her innocent looks. You will see her murdering innocent people and dismembering them. Shooting the only relative from point blank range then beating his corpse to a pulp with a baseball bat. She will manipulate the whole village to think that she is a victim of domestic abuse so they'd petition Child Welfare Services while she is planning a murder of a person who sincerely cares about her, just for fun of killing him when he tries to think of a best way to protect her. She sedates and injects her victims with something that causes severe itchiness leading to self harm and driving them to madness. She kills with a knife, with a fork, with a fry pan, with a book, with her bare hands, with a gun, with a baseball bat, with machete, etc. All murders are explicit, sadistic and gory. Of course there is more to the story. There is also a supernatural component with a curse and a goddess watching all the murders from her realm as entertainment, etc. But all that is secondary to obsession with cold blooded killing for relish of it. And to make matters worse, the murderous character is stuck within some sort of "groundhog day" loop, so she takes a particular pleasure of killing her best friend over and over again by various methods, every time finishing her murder with emotionless suicide to initiate restart of the loop.

Most unpleasant and disgusting show, perverted and sick.

  2. Rena Ryuuguu The Demented Voice of When they cry@promete0sz748d

    image.png

The cruelest thing about many stories is that many of us as viewers in the depths of our being do not really want to see the characters to be happy, in fact we enjoy their suffering, in many of the series and anime we have seen it happens that in various characters is a martyrdom what they suffer and the greater the agony they suffer .... the more we want to see.

Rena Ryuuguu is a character of the franchise When They Cry also called Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni that fits the psychology of the audience that enjoys seeing the agony of characters in various aspects because it is not only the physical suffering that she can suffer since the psychological part is what can be exploited at the level of the character to make the story more attractive.

    image.png

    image.png

    • Mai Nakahara is the one who gives voice and life to Rena:

The voice like many voices in animation or anime transmits quite a lot in the innocence aspect, it is like entering another world when listening to the voices of Japanese women in anime, with their high-pitched and sweet tones but in this case the striking thing is not that because let's say that it is of the most common that type of voice, the attractive touch of this character is how Mai Nakahara gives her the attribute of dementia.

This is one of the reasons why this character has a good reputation in the anime world, she has radical changes in her voice that accompany the scenes and are extremely enjoyable for those who like aggressive tones. Many times we focus on the images but if you have not seen When They Cry and you dare to watch it, pay attention to the voice changes in this character that generate uncomfortable situations and good tension in the viewer.

    • Her Exotic Axe:

If there is something with which When They Cry plays very well is with the innocence of her characters, Rena is a teenager whose physical characteristics in what I see of the anime tend more towards girl, she has a little hat that makes her look very sweet and up to there everything is fine.

What gives a powerful visual plus to the character is the use of her machete or kind of axe, it is not at all a common form of weapon and she handles it with style, if you enjoy Gore she can give you some good moments in this anime, just look at her in the thumbnail of this video, she looks bad ass with her exotic axe

The Insane Psychology of Rena Ryuuguu's character:

Beyond the reasons I just named and in large part is what inspires me to review this character is her insanity for all that she suffers during the development of this story. The Anime executed its insane moments with a lot of suspense in totally illogical scenes because of the murky context they present.

As you can see, the character is sweet so her scenes go from being tender to macabre in a matter of minutes, she reminds me a lot of those toxic women that some may have known in their lives and whose situations only reached the psychological stress part, in my case I have not had toxic girlfriends but I would like one with a personality like that, that is similar to Rena's to give more excitement to my life that I really need it haha.

If you like that feeling of seeing how characters get lost in the madness of their psychological traumas, this character is for you, in fact she is a secondary character but she has been written so well that the appreciation of the fans has made her escalate and that indicates how we enjoy seeing innocent souls suffer.

I dedicate each and every one of my posts and videos to my little dog named princess, we called her chiquito, she is no longer with us but from heaven she will see that her existence was valuable and the most beautiful thing that will exist in my heart and soul.

Hello my fellow anime lovers and lovers of murky stories! How are you? I hope from the bottom of my heart that very well, I premiered in the community talking about childhood cartoons but in truth, the hobby that I most want to share here is my love for all series, movies and other derivatives that has to do directly with the Anime, you see, Notice of Much Text this is a medium that I honestly love but which I have lost the thread these last few years because well, I haven't had much free time available to invest in watching some works, that changed recently, now without PC and with much more time at my disposal, so I went back to dive into the old reliable Anime sites, just to realize that you get old very fast :c I didn't even know half of the releases and some of the ones I watched before were either already finished or in their last season, it wasn't until I saw the name "Higurashi" that I was transported back to those old times when I was just discovering that there were a whole lot of works that were ready to disturb you deeply with their stories, however, this was not the original work that I had already enjoyed back then, but it was some kind of Remake Reboot or something like that I have not yet discovered in depth, but I think it's better this way, therefore, after all this Much text I want to invite you to compare both works, their similarities, their initial differences and the impressions that have left me to know again of this saga after so long, let's start!

    Concepto Inicial

    Initial Concept

    Screenshot 2023-04-16 14.19.52.png
    image.png

Both works begin in a similar way, showing a violent scene of a boy hitting what seems to be some corpses, however, we soon discover that it was nothing more than a dream, this boy who will be the protagonist for most of the initial part of the plot is called Keiichi Maebara and among many details, what stands out most is that he has just moved to this town known as Hinamizawa, which has not prevented him from having several friends, if it were not for the obvious bestiality that we eat at the beginning, this could easily be any episode of a Slice of Life and in fact, many times the story will develop as any normal school environment, at least, until we discover "details" that will put both Keiichi and us on alert, because not everything in Hinamizawa seems as quiet as it appears, essentially, at the beginning almost everything is the same in both works. ... at least at first sight.

    Cambios y detalles

    Changes and details

    image.png
    image.png
    image.png
    image.png

Let's start with the most obvious, the redesign, I think the character who has more changes is Keiichi, to be honest, I have not finished convincing this design for one of the most important characters of this saga, but it is not so bad, it is not as in the comments on social networks or platforms that directly classify this as awful, another character that can be seen more changed is the detective Oishi-san, who instead of exhibiting a prominent musculature is seen a little more belly, it seems that in these years the detective has given hard to Ramen in the area, but these details can be omitted if it were not for the fact that also, it is seen a little more "different" in their personalities, especially Keiichi that in my opinion is not shown as clever as in the original anime, but this may have its explanation, mostly because we are not talking about a reboot of the franchise in the strict sense of the word.

What changes in the new version?

    image.pngimage.png
Those who are attentive followers of all the anime and the most extensive works of this saga, will know that one of the most important characters is Rika Furude, in her are concentrated many of the mysteries that occur in the village, but it was not until much later, in the original series, that one ends up realizing and tying ends, However, in this new series, Rika is not the same, or at least, it is made clear to us that she keeps many "memories" of the events seen in the original series, making this a mix between reboot, as many characters do return to their original roles and sequel, as the knowledge acquired by Rika will make her intervene in key moments in order to avoid possible fates for her and her friends, it is said that it is not necessary to watch the original series to understand the whole context, but given the good quality of the older series and the fact that the initial mystery is better introduced, well, to me it seems necessary, however, this is already a matter of opinion than of concrete facts.

    ¿Vale la pena verla?

    Is it worth seeing?

    image.pngimage.png
I think it's worth giving it a chance, as we all know, reboots and sequels are complicated things to execute satisfactorily, especially when you have a product of such high esteem over time, I for one, have not yet seen the entire reboot because it consists of more than 20 chapters and I just stayed to compare the beginning of everything that was what audiences will value the most before deciding whether to stay or look for something else, in the case of the fans, with so many old adaptations, and after such a long period in which it was not known with certainty if there would be another anime, I think they will not have many buts in seeing another adaptation that will work as another alternative line, with the tasteful addition that one of the characters is now fully aware of everything that will happen or most of the things that can happen, I think, However, before watching all this, I would strongly recommend watching the original series first, at least for someone who knows nothing about this saga and its history, I think the original works keep a very nice way of developing everything, almost reaching the childish that reminds many similar moments that were lived in the anime in those years, illusion that is broken once the secrets are discovered and that is precisely what makes me value so highly what was done, but well, in summary, I think you should try to see this new version if you are already a fan considering that there will be some redesigns and extra details, and if you are new and do not know anything about "Higurashi" I recommend you to go with the originals to have a better context.

  5. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Season 1 - Anime Review@amirtheawesome11526d

    image.png Image source

    Greetings

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, translated poorly upon licensing to "When they cry", is my favorite animes horror/thriller/murder mystery anime. And I am here to review it.

    Synopsis

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni the anime is based on a visual novel by the same name.

The main character, Keiichi Maebara, moves into a new village, Hinamizawa. He befriends 4 girls in the local school. Ahead of the Watanagashi (Cotton) Festival, he discovers that strange events have been occurring annually where one of the residents would disappear while the other is found murdered.

What I Liked About The Anime

While other visual novels pick one story arc when turned into anime, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni goes with the collective of the stories in the show divided into arcs. Using a Neon Genesis Evangelion-ish way of resetting the world by the end of each arc.

Each arc is set within a time loop. As a person who went to this after finishing School Days, it was a nice and refreshing change at the time. It makes the anime freeing in terms of watching it for the details in each arc to find out who is going to snap, however, it is also free in terms of you being able to skip an arc if you like.

The animation of this anime isn't the best. On paper, that shouldn't work when it switches between comedy and horror, yet it does. A smiling face, when it's being humorous, makes you laugh, while when it's horror, the same exaggerations applied can actually haunt your dreams.

The animation is also unapologetic in terms of its gore aspects. This positive comes with a warning label as you may not enjoy it. But, for me personally, I always appreciate it when art is unapologetic.

The atmosphere and soundtrack. The atmosphere is a comedy-turned-horror, it disarms you with humor before giving you a spook. The soundtrack complements that, the main theme simply titled "Main Theme" creates a great mixture of sadness and dread. As you will listen to it below.

The characters are all very well-written. They all have a mixture of having a reason to snap but also having a reason to stay brave and contained. With them, you could see things going either way. That is a very rare thing in terms of character writing.

The terminology. I know this is not something unique to this anime or any work of motion pictures and story-telling but I really like the terms and backstories for everything in the anime. The cotton festival quickly becomes its own character.

The curse of Oyashiro-sama and the Hinamizawa Syndrome creates a great contrast of how the same action, or series of actions, can be perceived depending on one's perspective.

Finally, the anime has an amazing faulty-narrators approach. You don't often know whether a character is telling an objective truth or a subjective one. That puts the mindset of the characters in the sense of confusion or paranoia, complimenting the whole aspect of mystery.

What I Didn't Like About The Anime

It's not the anime, but rather season 1. Essentially, it is a big question arc. Yes, a lot of things are answered but it is still confusing at the end without a reward for sitting through 24 episodes of paranoia, death, and gore.

At certain points, it does seem like the creators are just seeking to shock you with gore. I commended their unapologetic approach, but at a certain point you might end up hitting a rather desensitized place.

The English adaptation is horrible on all cylinders. Like, they really got everything horribly. The dub is unbearable. Even adapting the title was horrible with a "When they cry" title that really doesn't say anything about the show.

Finally, the resolution just seems to be there. It creates an anti-climatic ending in a way. Like, it's not bad, just not worth sitting through. Especially since that resolution doesn't even happen this season but rather in season 2. For a show that managed to keep my attention for over 40 episodes, I didn't know how rewarding that was.

    My Rating: 7.5/10

I have a weird relationship with this anime. It is my subjective favorite because of the way it captures me with just the right aesthetics that work with me in almost a guilty pleasure level. However, as an objective opinion, I would rate it lower than I would Elfen Lied and Another which both make better stories and conclusions.

  6. Horror of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni@jza2000d

One of the most classics horror series in the Anime world is the Higurashi series. After a long hiatus, a new Higurashi has arrived and it come back on the 2020's with the improved animation but with the classic taste of craziness that the Higurashi possessions on the small town of Hinamizawa.

One thing different this time is the multiverse and metaverse where the young Rika faces and how even thought Keiichi seems to be the MC, the real deal is Rika as she talk with the spirit of Hanyuu and realize that the different versions of the Higurashi tragedies are replays of the same evil faith that happens on the town and the circles of friends.

What I enjoy of this series is that is not horror 100% it actually explores and even dwell on the light slice of life feeling of adventures of a young group having fun together. Except on eerie episodes where everything goes silent and sometimes the friends replied like this is VERY serious.

The new higurashi no naku koro ni started last fall season and this winter season it goes into the second stretch fo a 24 episode

Win Steam Keys for Higurashi: When They Cry Ch.1 & 2!

    1920x1080.jpg

Higurashi: When They Cry is an episodic Visual Novel first released in 2002. Higurashi is the first series in When They Cry franchise. It was adapted into an anime years ago, and the anime's Remake/Sequel is airing in Japan at the time of this writing.

It's half slice-of-life story, half horror! Every chapter starts from the same point and goes into a different direction from there. People always die, and it's up to you the reader to find out the cause. I wrote about it 2 years ago. The story inspired me to learn about Cicadas.

Chapter #1 is currently Free on Steam!

    Chapter #2's Steam Page!

I have Humble Bundle keys for the first 2 chapters. I listed on @dGameShop's Market last year but the website that used to run on STEEM doesn't work anymore, so I asked its owner to give all my keys back and now I'll be giving them away.

    Higurashi When They Cry Giveaway:

I'm giving away my keys of the 1st and 2nd chapters of this Visual Novel. While the first chapter is already free, using this key will probably give you trading cards, since you don't get them with the free version. (I don't know if that would be the case, but that's how it worked with Life is Strange for me.)

Both keys will go to the same user!

    How to Enter:

    • Answer "Why do you want this game?" in a comment.
    • Your qualification depends on your comment content.
    • If more than one person qualify, the winner will be chosen by this Random Comment Picker.
    • The keys will be sent via encrypted message.
Deadline: A Week from this giveaway's post. When I receive the Payout.

God willing, I'd like to do more of these giveaways for all these leftover Steam keys.
