  1. Mi Opinión sobre Hollywood, serie de Neflix // My Opinion on Hollywood, Netflix series@maeugenia1135d

Welcome to my blog and to the Movie&Tvshows community, I hope you are well, I wish you a great weekend, days to rest and enjoy a good series or movie in the comfort of your home. I want to recommend Hollywood, a 7-episode series that is available on the Neflix platform and that I really liked.

To begin the series is set in the 40s, the golden age of American cinema and you can appreciate the glamor and shine of Hollywood, the actors' costumes and the staging are great, special attention was paid to detail.

The series is about a group of actors and filmmakers who make their way in Hollywood to fulfill their dream of being part of a film production that makes them famous, however, on their way to success, they encounter obstacles due to race or sexual orientation. , which will make their path to stardom more difficult.

In Hollywood there is no main story, the story of several characters and their struggle to achieve success is told. We meet Jack, a war veteran who wants to be an actor but is married and his wife is pregnant, he must put aside his moral values and do whatever it takes to support his family while trying to fulfill his dream of being actor.

Also in the series, the issue of racism is touched on in the character of Camille, a black woman who has everything against her because of her skin color, however, a great opportunity will arise to work as the protagonist of a film called "Meg" where her partner is the director and whose writers is also a black man. Film that will cause many controversies in the film studio for being the first film starring a woman, a screenwriter of color. Here Avis also enters the scene, the wife of the president of the studio and who will be the one who will take the risk of filming "Meg", she realizes that women can also be more than just housewives, highlighting female empowerment.

Another theme that the series addresses is homosexuality, we have Henry a greedy agent and producer who uses his power to obtain sexual favors from aspiring actors. There's also Rock, a naive gay actor who never loses his faith in people and who ultimately gets on Henry's good side.

The series also tells the story of other secondary characters and my favorite was that of Ernie, the owner of a gas station who, in addition to dispensing fuel, makes the sexual fantasies of men and women come true just by saying the word Paradise. I loved his performance as an elegant and mature man whose dream of being an actor has come true for many years.

Hollywood is a series where everything turns out well in the end and everyone is happy, it's all fiction and the director wanted to show what it would have been like if things had been different in the 40s and the movies had been more inclusive, regardless of race or orientation sexual.

Anyway, luckily after many years things are changing in Hollywood and we already have protagonists of all races on the giant screen. Don't stop watching this series dear film buff, happy weekend.

  2. Review Hollywood: Ryan Murphy's Fantasy [ENG - ESP]@franchalad1779d

    𝕴𝖓𝖙𝖗𝖔𝖉𝖚𝖈𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓

Hello my Hive people! Today I hope you have a wonderful and successful day, I'm still betting on the platform doing what I love, dedicating time to my personal growth. Today I wanted to bring you a review of a production that has taken me almost a month to watch because of how complicated my routine is lately. When I started watching the series that brings me before you today, I didn't know where exactly it was directed or what it was about but after watching Halston and a number of other series like The Politician or Pose I knew that Ryan Murphy would hook me again with another of his moving and well told productions.

Set in the golden age of Hollywood, it's only natural that it's based on the lives of hundreds of famous people from the 40's in the last century, just after the success of Gone with the Wind, the best example of the movies being made at that time. Thus, with a bunch of familiar faces, Ryan Murhy and Ian Brennan, his eternal collaborator, manage to give a different color to the golden years of cinema, in their own mecca.

With several references to scandals of the time, they manage to convey the essence of the magic of those years and the rawness of xenophobia, racism and homophobia prevailing in those days. However, the series does not deal with these issues, rather it is an almost fantasy portrait of a longed-for era and what could have happened if the story were written by an ambitious showrunner from any major film studio.

I doubt very much that this series will have a second season but I liked the first one a lot, I like the way it was told but at this point I think I'm stretching too much, so you better read this review that I have prepared for you today.

Handsome young aspiring actor Jack Castello (David Corenswet), is ready to fulfill his dreams after fighting in World War II. He and his wife Henrietta (Maude Apatow) have moved to Los Angeles so Jack can make his dream come true: that of being a movie star. While she works at Schwab Pharmaceuticals, he goes to Ace Studios every morning to see if he can get work as an extra or hopefully be discovered by one of those famous agents.

Seeing the difficulty of achieving stardom, Jack suddenly finds himself working in a male prostitution ring disguised as a gas station alongside him another young dreamer and screenwriter Archie Coleman (Jeremy Pope). Their pimp Ernie (Dylan McDermott) instructs them to cater to all kinds of customers who say the keyword "Dreamland" in one of these appointments Jack meets Avis Amberg (Patti LuPone), the wife of the owner of Ace Pictures. Archie meets the love of his life Rock Hudson (Jake Picking).

Soon, life smiles on Jack and Archie and when they least expect it, they are working in a studio. Jack joins Camille (Laura Harrier) and Amberg's whimsical daughter Claire (Samara Weaving) on the Ace crew, which is directed by Ellen Kincaid (Holland Taylor); while the script Archie has written based on the tragic story of a white girl is assigned to young director Raymond Ainsley (Darren Criss), who gives the lead roles to Jack, Claire and his girlfriend Camille. This is how they manage to get the green light for a controversial film written by a black man, homosexual and starring a black woman involved in an interracial relationship, all of which would have been impossible in the era in which it was set, but Hollywood pulls it off. Will they manage to pull off such a difficult film amidst the pressure? There is still much to be discovered in Hollywood.

    𝕾𝖎𝖓𝖔𝖕𝖘𝖎𝖘

    𝕸𝖞 𝕺𝖕𝖎𝖓𝖎𝖔𝖓

The most remarkable thing about this Murphy and Brennan production is that their version of Hollywood's golden age is more inclusive than it really was and this fantasy was trashed by critics, to my mind it is a tribute to how things would have been different if perhaps they had been different. Artistic license is the order of the day but what did they expect? Not even The Crown has escaped from drawing reality to make it more digestible, although there is always the risk that the new generations believe that it is a reality presented by these productions.

Murphy was clearly inspired by the classic Hollywood of that era, having the big budget allocated by Netflix to evoke the era of cinema he loves. So he tries to have the face of countless real stars by rewriting the past at will until he gets it to adhere to modern standards of diversity and representation. This is how instead of confronting the true reality that prevailed at the time Murphy simply replaces it with something more acceptable and dreamed up that simply didn't exist.

So in this alternate reality Archie a black and gay screenwriter will succeed with his movie, we will also see his boyfriend a fictionalized version of actor and heartthrob Rock Hudson played by Jake Picking who chooses not to hide his sexuality as he did in real life. Darren Criss' character on the other hand is married to a black woman named Camille (Laura Harrier), and it seems that their marriage does not cause the slightest stupor in the Hollywood of the series.

But despite all this, the fantasy is also brilliant and I have been caught up in learning more about Hollywood from an ardent fan of its history, for example the story on which the movie Meg is based in the series is real and it was about the British actress Peg Entwistle who committed suicide by throwing herself from the famous Hollywood sign.

But Entwistle is only the first of many real-life figures who cross paths with the fictional characters in the series, others such as Vivien Leigh, George Cukor, Tallulah Bankhead and Ernest Borgnine also have brief appearances, in addition to Eleanor Roosevelt who also appears in one of the episodes. These characters, although inspired by real people, are fictitious characterizations of reality.

Queen Latifah plays the first black actress to win an Oscar Hattie McDaniel, who in the series becomes Camille's mentor, Anna May Wong played brilliantly by Michelle Krusiec is chosen to play a vindictive role in Meg. Jim Parsons is also flawless as Henry Wilson and pulls off a masterful performance as always, he is also inspired by a real life character.

    Blue.png

    Poster

But if anyone stole my heart it was Rock Hudson played by Jake Picking I thought it was a great tribute that Hollywood wanted to give to the actor, who died of complications from AIDS in 1985 after spending his life hiding his sexuality and that in the series does not hesitate to shout to the world that he is gay and in love something that in real life he never could.

Anyway, Hollywood was good, it is entertaining despite its fantasy managed to convince me for its great cast and its impeccable setting, if you are a fan of film history and a true cinephile you will enjoy it as much as I did with the best company and enjoying another great production of Ryan. For me it's a 7/10.

  3. Hollywood: the power of dreams and courage according to Ryan Murphy@serialfiller2222d

    image.png

There are authors who have the ability to be recognized in an instant. A scene, a dialogue, a framing can immediately identify an author's style. Ryan Murphy undoubtedly belongs to this category. His style has become unmistakable and just look at his latest creature "Hollywood" to understand what we are talking about. Let's talk about the second show produced by Murphy for Netflix, after the not exciting Politician. Here, as in Politician, there's the condensation of Murphy-thinking, Murphy-style. Bright colors, hellish rhythm, loquacious and nosy dialogues, lovable characters. This is how much he manages to emerge from Murphy's style. But there is the story, the thought, the underlying message that Murphy has been trying to convey for years, which here finds the umpteenth exaltation, the umpteenth confirmation. Through the stories and characters staged, the author manages to give us a glimpse of how powerful love can be and how much the human being, once he acknowledges his own limits and strengths, can be extraordinary. Murphy's ability to convey a message, so simple but with such disruptive force, is absolutely unique. This time he has chosen the Hollywood of the dawn, the one at the 20th edition of the Oscars, to tell and maybe tell himself. As always the LGBTQ world has found ample space, many were the non-heterosexual couples and many were the characters struggling with the legitimacy of their being gay. Legitimization that often meant first of all a recognition of that diversity, in a world where the different was seen as inhuman. And not human was also that society, where if you were black you couldn't enter a bar and if you were gay you couldn't confess it. And Hollywood was the perfect mirror for that hypocrisy. A parallel universe where stories were made every day, stories of happy and triumphant white men and where there was no room for the different, the marginalized. But Hollywood, cinema has always had the ability to change the world, to make it a better place. Not only are things projected on that screen as they are, but as they could be. And that's when Murphy manages to turn a rather disappointing and negative incipit into something powerfully positive. In just 7 episodes he overturns the paradigm and transforms that world into a better world, through the gaze and determination of its protagonists, the underdogs, the outcasts. People united by a dream, who have been able to put aside pride and selfishness, showing courage and heart and inspiring a new generation. Murphy often exaggerates, condenses too much, increases the emotional load too many times, puts too much meat on the fire and sometimes resolves certain storylines too easily and simplifies very complex plots. But it excites. He excites a lot and this allows us to forgive him a lot of things.

  4. Hollywood - my first impressions about Netflix Show@serialfiller2246d

    image.png

    Tunnel Wave.png

    Hollywood

The most famous inscription in the world, the one that stands on that even more famous hill, overlooking that even more famous city. Fame, celebrity, fiction. Welcome to Hollywood, welcome to the second Ryan Murphy/Netlfix TV series. After his non-exhilarating debut with "The Politician", Ryan Murphy is back. This time we go back decades, post-war and change the setting. No longer a college but the glossy Hollywood. Yet you would recognize for a thousand miles that this "Hollywood" is a creature of Ryan Murphy. Colorful, rhythmic, sparkling and with that always flashy and essential look towards the LGBTQ community. Ryan Murphy is a more colorful and profound version of what Shonda Rhymes has become with his television creatures. When you are so distinguishable you have already achieved half the goals that anyone sets themselves in life. The risk is to become art for a niche audience and not being able to expand the audience to those who may not have loved previous works. There's no doubt, however, that Murphy manages to glue you to the screen, he doesn't bore you, the dialogues are very fast, the cinematographic set design, the mimicry of the disruptive characters. He may not like it, but he certainly has a soul. As always there's an excuse to talk about Hollywood. The truth is, as always, that Murphy tries to talk about us, about relationships, conditions, human relations, trying to dig as much as possible. Every time he does, however, he does so by enriching our knowledge of that world that gives the title to the TV series. At the end of the pilot the feeling is to have understood something more both of the dynamics that regulated (and regulate) Hollywood, both of that era and of the human being and above all the feeling is to want to go on. But be careful, this is not a masterpiece.

    Hollywood
