  1. Horimiya- A love story that started with babysitting duties;)@omokhafue292d

‎It's 2023 again, and I'm binge watching animes like my life depends on it. Watching multiple episodes and somehow, I still have alot of hours in the day to do other things. It's not the same thing now. I feel like the speed of time tripled and has plans to promote the apocalypse (obviously a joke). Time management might work well for me, proper, but I didn't practice any of that years ago and still got a lot of things done. I remember watching Attack on Titan again. The well crafted scenes of every beautiful chapter. My favourite scene still remains the one with Eren and Mikasa, after the death of Hange(the male Hange.) I have rewatched that scene more than 30 times and every time, I ended it with tears in my eyes. It was so beautiful, the music that accompanied it was wonderful picked and I'd be praising that scene for a very long time. But, I'm not here to talk about Attack on Titans. I'm here to talk about something else, Horimiya. ‎ 86624b5cec4c124d661792faad4b4e1b.jpg Source ‎Horimiya is about Kyoko Hori and Izumi Miyamura, two high school students living double lives. Hori looks like the perfect popular girl at school, but at home she's basically a full-time babysitter for her little brother Sota while her parents are off being responsible adults elsewhere. Miyamura appears to be your typical gloomy loner at school, but outside he's covered in piercings and tattoos like he moonlights as a rock star. ‎ ‎Their paths cross when Miyamura finds an injured Sota and helps him get home. Hori answers the door and has absolutely no clue who this pierced stranger is until he explains. Once she realizes it's the quiet kid from school, things get interesting. Miyamura starts hanging around, helping with chores and keeping Sota entertained, probably because he's never had friends who actually wanted him around. ‎ ‎They eventually start dating, though Hori has a tendency to get a bit territorial about her boyfriend. The story jumps ahead to show them getting married, because apparently high school sweethearts do work out sometimes. ‎ 774dc5bdac96491342577325c4a234df.jpg Source ‎Their friend group adds plenty of drama to the mix. Toru Ishikawa has a massive crush on Hori but handles rejection like a mature human being, which is refreshing. Yuki Yoshikawa starts off liking Ishikawa but then realizes she's actually into Akane Yanagi, the brutally honest student council member who has the social skills of a brick wall but somehow makes it work. ‎ ‎Remi Ayasaki bounces around like she's permanently caffeinated and dates Makio Tanihara, who looks like he could bench press a car but is actually a softie. Kakeru Sengoku is the golden boy everyone likes, while Honoka Sawada quietly observes the chaos from the sidelines. ‎ ‎The series watches these characters fumble through typical teenage relationship nonsense. Hori learns to dial back the possessiveness, Miyamura figures out he's actually worth caring about, and somehow they all manage to stay friends through the awkwardness of adolescence. ‎ 3c8fffc6f9c30432ae47625dddb35cb3.jpg Source ‎Years later, Hori and Miyamura are married and their friend group is still intact, proving that sometimes the people you meet in high school actually stick around for the long haul. I can't relate to this but yes, they did it. ‎

Random question and definitely not related but how do you guys deal with sleep? Coffee isn't working again, help! I'm sleeping randomly and any given and important time.😔 ‎

    ‎Anyways, Horimiya is a peak anime. And I hope you've seen it, if you haven't then this is a sign! ‎ ‎Thanks for reading. ‎ ‎ ‎

Hello, anime fans! I hope you are all doing great today. On this occasion, I would like to share with you all... my opinions on an anime that I have been wanting to talk about for a long time, today I will talk to you about: Horimiya, and it was one of those beautiful surprises that life gives you, you know? One of those that you don't expect at all, this anime, which came out in 2021 and was loved by many, the truth is that it came like a breath of fresh air to the genre, I arrived with sky-high expectations, because it was an expected adaptation of a manga that was famous, and I swear I was between excited and nervous... but, yes, I liked it.

The series manages to capture that beautiful and honest magic of the manga, but adds its own little flavor, that makes it a gem for those who are just joining. From the first chapter, this series catches you by showing you how opposite Hori and Miyamura are, the main characters. On one hand, we have Hori, who is the typical popular, intelligent, responsible girl, everything that is good at school! But, be careful, when she gets home she turns into a homebody... on the other hand, there is Miyamura, who at first seems to be the quiet, somewhat antisocial boy of the class, but boom!, outside of school, he becomes a rockstar with piercings... that huge contrast between how they are at school and in their private life is what makes them so interesting.

I was captivated from the beginning trying to understand who these two really were and how it was possible that such different personalities complemented each other so well, one of the points that I liked the most was seeing how the series shows, little by little, how Hori and Miyamura get to know each other. The chemistry between them is undeniable, one of those that really connects with you... it is impossible not to want them to end up together. They are not your typical cliché couple who get together just because, no, here we see how their secrets and insecurities intertwine in every interaction, in every little thing they do... their relationship is not based on exaggerated dramas or big declarations, but on real, sincere moments, that reflect how complicated and beautiful love and friendship can be on a day-to-day basis. I remember that I spent my time laughing and at the same time feeling empathy for them, while they went through uncomfortable situations, but that felt super real... it is that authenticity, which makes this series different from many other romantic comedies.

Let's talk about the animation CloverWorks did a great job, they brought Horimiya to life in an incredible way, each scene is made with a care that I thought was great... from the backgrounds, which are super detailed, the settings that make you believe you are there, to the expressions of the characters, those little gestures that tell you everything without them having to speak, I liked how the animation makes the story even better... There were moments, I swear, where a simple glance between Hori and Miyamura told you more than a thousand words, the animation is super fluid, and they paid attention to the details that, watch out!, even the author of the manga said was key for the work to work, and look, even if you've read the manga and have your doubts about whether it's going too fast or not, the anime manages to maintain a plot that hooks you, but without making you feel like they're rushing you.

And speaking of going fast, it's true that some who read the manga may feel like they skipped some things, but I personally liked how the anime made the story simpler.. by removing some secondary stories of characters that weren't that important, they focused more on the main thing: the relationship between Hori and Miyamura, and believe me, that vibe worked wonders for them.. and watch out, the secondary characters aren't just there as filler, ok? Each one, even if they appear very little, has their role so that we better understand the world of the school where they all are, it reminded me of when you're with your group of friends, you know? That not everyone is the center of attention all the time, but each one adds their special touch to the vibe.

It's interesting to see how the series plays with the simple and the profound at the same time. It's not like it's going to blow your mind with unexpected twists or anything like that, but it has such a warm, cozy vibe that it catches you right away... it's like when you put on your favorite sweater on a cold day, you know? You don't expect fireworks, but that feeling of comfort makes you feel at home, relaxed... it happened to me that I connected with the characters in a very personal way, maybe it's because their problems, their insecurities and how they show affection feel very real, very close... I connected with that, and it's really appreciated to see a story where love is not pure drama or a fairy tale, but something more real, with its little things, its disorders, but beautiful and human at the end of the day...

And not to mention the laughs, it has moments of humor that catch you off guard and bring a smile from ear to ear, seeing how the characters interact on a daily basis is so funny and, at the same time, so real! Has it ever happened to you that with a gesture, a look between two people, they say everything? That's what happens here! The relaxed tone, almost as if they were telling you gossip, draws you fully into the story, as if you were there living the ups and downs of this romance as if it were yours, as if you were transported back to high school... Obviously, no anime is perfect, and Horimiya, although it is a gem, has its little things... some may say that it goes too fast and yes, there are moments where the background feels a bit simple for the anime format... but, honestly, it feels natural, because in the end, the important thing is that they focused on building a relationship that touches your heart and feels real, and that has quite a bit of value, not any ordinary anime does that.

Watching this series I couldn't help but smile, it changed my vibe of what I thought was a "romantic" anime, at first, I confess, I was kind of skeptical, because one has seen so many anime that promise you gold and in the end leave you like "meh".. but Horimiya broke the mold, at least in my opinion, with that honest way of showing love, just like life itself, unpredictable and at the same time real... that vibe of how Hori and Miyamura handle what they show in public and what they are in private, feels genuine, so real, that it's like you're gossiping about the life of someone you know... it's not the giant declarations of love, but those little moments that, without you realizing it, build trust and understanding.

Now, if you ask me if it's worth giving this anime a chance, well yes, you can have a good time, it's just that it's rare to find a series that makes you laugh, touches your heart and makes you think, all in one episode. That mix of humor, romance and how the characters truly grow in Horimiya is like a recipe that always works, no matter how many times you watch it... each scene is designed to make you feel something, and as the story progresses, you realize that the magic is in how simple everything is...

At the end of the day, I give it a 8.5/10, not only because of the animation that is brutal or because of the story that is well put together, but because of how it makes you feel, do you understand? There is such a refreshing authenticity in how they depict daily life and relationships, something that many animes these days kind of forget about... so, if you are looking for an anime that gives you a genuine experience, that moves you, with characters that feel real and with their little things, give it a chance, its characters will surely captivate you as they did me... and well, that's all for today, see you in the next reviews, take care of yourselves! Byebye!

(2021, 13 episodes)@onlyjob471d

Excellent romance about first serious love relationship in high school. Likeable honest but subtle personalities. Good character growth. Nice emotional conveyance through skilful animation of facial expressions and mild comedy. Good dialogues. Positive mood throughout the entire show with pleasant after-taste.

  5. Horimiya is really something else@jza1990d

High school drama like the most common out there, but still somehow get me stuck to my seat wanting to know what happens. This is the story of the otaku kid that is not an otaku, getting with a girl that isn't the most popular in school but at least is social enough to have friends and finally a group of friends that have embraced the otaku thanks to the female main character.

But as the otaku comes out of his shell, things start getting more complex and more real as the love triangles start coming in and relationship issues start developing. Boys wanting the girl, girls wanting the boys and so they are pushed together by the threat of new lovers coming in the scene. At the same time, this is the textbook of the 'next door boy' and how he gets deep into the relationship of her family helping her little brother out and just becoming well…. the classic childhood friend.

The like the slow pace this plot unravels and that nobody seems to be in a rush, and is just an everyday drama and even the love comes in soft waves as they are not too slow but also not a rushed thing. Although sometimes it did felt a bit too dramatic, the time look very sincere and appreciative. That said, the girl is a total tsundere that like to mistreat boys including the guy she likes just because that's the way she protect her feelings.

I think this is more like an animated soap opera drama more than an original anime for kids. The development looks very similar to that of Bunnygirl Senpai and Yesterday wo Utate other relationship favorites.

    horimiya.png

Have you guys watched the anime? any thoughts? Is this your type of anime or is very chick flick-ish and rather see overpowered superheroes destroying the crap out of earth threatening enemies?

  7. Horimiya - Manga Review@aretheus2809d

    05.png

When does a story end? The most obvious answer is that a story ends when an author decides that it should end. The creative director has full reign on when their creation will reach its conclusion. All they have to do is stop writing. That's not the kind of end that I want to talk about though. What I'm talking about is when does a story stop being a story anymore. Is there a point where a story devolves so far that it dies while being written? That's what I want to talk about today.

    Characters Bastardized by Time

    Miyamura Before and After

    9.png

The manga that sparked me to write this was "Horimiya". It's a story of two people struggling with their social lives at school, meeting each other, and helping each other and becoming stronger through each other's presence. At least, that's my interpretation of the story, as there seem to be people that don't agree with me, but I'll get into that later. Firstly, I want to take a quick look at how this series has changed over the course of its serialization.

    The Golden Age

In the beginning, our two protagonists, Hori and Miyamura, discover each other's secrets. Respectively, being Hori being a plain-looking, busybody mother figure in her household and Miyamura having an insane number of tattoos and piercings. This created a brilliant framework to plaster the slice-of-life sketches onto. They worked off of each other's flaws and became exactly what the other person wants most from life. They created a world all their own at home.

    02.png

The two characters felt so similar, yet completely different at the same time. Similar due to having alternate selves outside of school, and different because of how different those personas were. This contrast is incredibly important to making this relationship work properly. Miyamura is level-headed but goofy and awkward. Meanwhile, Hori is hot-tempered but competent and caring. Their ability to love each other in spite of their differences is essential to "Horimiya's" execution.

But even beyond all of this, what really makes the beginning of "Horimiya" so special is that its slice of life story always had something to do with Hori and Miyamura's relationship. Miyamura and Ishikawa become friends after fighting over Hori. Hori makes stew for Miyamura despite how much she hates stew to thank him for what he's done for her. Shindou was a way to naturally show the reader how much Hori has changed Miyamura. Likewise, Sengoku was a way to compare Hori before and after meeting Miyamura.

You see, every little story was tied to the main characters in some way. Every side character added some new spice to Hori and Miyamura's relationship in some way. They were the center of each other's lives. So even if there wasn't always conflict, even if there was some silly slice of life comedy going on, it still felt relevant to the story. If you take those elements away and just make it a series of brainless comic relief, then it's like a hotdog with ketchup without the hotdog.

    What's the point?

Now that I've explained what I love about "Horimiya's" early-mid chapters, let's see what "Horimiya" is like today. Hori and Miyamura have just about resolved every single problem that could have ever popped up with their relationship. All of the square dancing that was going on with the side characters has also fully stabilized. So what else is there to show us in the story? Good question, I'm still trying to decipher that myself.

Half of the characters are practically interchangeable. If you literally just replaced a drawing of a character and left their dialogue, it would still work because there is no character anymore. Remember how I said that Hori and Miyamura were so great because they had contrasting elements that complimented each other? Say goodbye to that. Miyamura's tattoos and piercings never come up again even though they were so important to him before. He just looks like a generic dude now.

    Please, Just Let it Die

Now, before I drive the final stake into "Horimiya's" throat, I should mention that the slice-of-life comedy is still well-executed enough that it can bring a smile to my face by sheer force of cute. By its own merits, these pointless chapters aren't the worst things ever. My problem is that it should not be a part of the main series. Why are these chapters that completely betray every element that gave the original series its heart and soul allowed to stand alongside those chapters? It's like taking a graduation photo with the person who stabbed up your parents.

Imagine if at the end of "Nisekoi", the story didn't end, and the author just started releasing "Magical Patissière Kosaki-chan!!" chapters under the main title. Imagine if "Koe no Katachi" didn't end at the festival and just kept going on and on about Shouya making up with his classmates, becoming popular, dating Shouko, and other unnecessary, inane garbage. I think the defining moment of "Horimiya" was when the mangaka felt the need to put someone's face underneath a reference to their name. They know that we've forgotten all about these useless characters now.

You know, I genuinely had someone try and tell me that these recent "Horimiya" chapters are necessary because they were adapted from omake chapters from the web novel. These chapters were released after a time skip to graduation and the end of the web novel. Do you know what this means? It means that nothing in these recent manga chapters are actually allowed to do anything that could affect how it ends. There can be exceptions to this, but if you don't know what you're talking about, here's a quick guideline to follow. If whatever's going on in a story doesn't have any impact on how it ends, then that story is wasting your time.

"JUST STOP READING IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL"

Here's the other thing that I tend to hear from people who can't use higher order thinking skills. "Why are you reading it if you don't like it?" "If you say the story is wasting your time, then stop wasting your time with it?" To anybody who tries to use this argument, I'd like to tell you to slice your ears off and poke your eyes out. That way, you won't have to deal with dangerous things like opinions and criticism stopping you from consuming things that you like.'

Anyway, let's digress back to the original question of this article. Why am I complaining about "Horimiya" for dragging itself out when plenty of other stories like Detective Conan and One Piece seem to stretch on far longer? That's because those series are still preserving the spirit from which the original was created. "Horimiya" was one of the greatest school romance manga ever written. Unfortunately, it's been stretched and milk for all that it's worth to the point that getting a satisfying ending is all but impossible. I pray that it's put out of its misery as soon as possible.

If anybody has any feelings about "Horimiya", throw them down into the comments below. Whether it's about the early chapters or the more recent chapters. As long as you don't write, "Just stop reading it if you don't like it," I'd love to hear what you're thinking.
