아우구스토(브로데릭 크로포드 분) 일당은 성직자로 변장하고는 당신의 밭에 보물이 있다며 미리 가짜 보물을 숨겨두고 농부마음에 존재하는 욕심을 불 붙인후 스스로 보물을 발견하게 만들어 욕심이 활활 불타게 만듭니다. 이런 행운이 올리 없다는 약간의 잔불은 미사비용으로 꺼버린 후 빠져나가고 농부의 집에는 가짜보물과 진짜빚더미를 남기는 예술적(?)사기단입니다. 행복하게(?) 살던 아우구스토는 옛동료 리날도(알버토 드 아미시스 분)가 큰 차와 저택, 화려한 파티로 돌아오자 흔들리기 시작합니다. 아우구스토 일당도 큰 파티에서 한 몫잡아보려 바가지도 씌워보고 훔쳐도 보고 살살 꼬셔도 보지만 성공한 사기꾼 리날도에게 씨알도 먹히지 않고 오히려 아직까지 사기치고 다니냐며 핀잔을 받습니다. 내상을 입은 아우구스토는 게다가 우연히 잊고 지냈던 딸을 만나 보상심…
