One of my great passions when I was younger was martial arts. I was fascinated by the choreographies and the great feats that the practitioners of these types of sports did and the techniques used. Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to practice any of them but I still like to watch movies like that.
Ip Man is one of the best films of the great teacher Donnie Yen. In this film we will be able to appreciate the biography of a teacher of Bruce Lee himself, Ip Man who had his heyday with a Kung-Fu technique called Wing Chun, created by a woman.
Una de mis grandes pasiones cuando era más joven eran las artes marciales. Me fascinaban las coreografías y las grandes hazañas que hacían los practicantes de estos tipos de deportes y las técnicas empleadas. Lamentablemente no tuve la oportunidad de practicar ninguna de ellas pero aún me gusta ver películas del estilo.
Ip Man es una de las mejores películas del gran maestro Donnie Yen. En esta película podremos apreciar la biografía de un maestro del mismísimo Bruce Lee, Ip Man que tuvo su auge con una técnica del Kung-Fu llamada Wing Chun, creada por una mujer.
The story goes beyond fighting and grandiose choreography because Ip Man's life developed when the Japanese empire attacked Chinese lands in WWII. Indeed at the beginning of the film we can see some hilarious situations and great fights but then the film becomes darker due to the Japanese invasion that decimated the population of Fon Shan in the 40s.
Famine and forced labor struck the province, causing many to starve to death, and the morale of the population declined, making them almost slaves. The same Ip Man must have done this forced labor to be able to bring some food for his house, since he had lost everything.
La historia va más allá de las peleas y grandiosas coreografías debido a que la vida de Ip Man se desarrolló cuando el imperio japonés atacaba tierras chinas en la segunda guerra mundial. En efecto al principio de la película podremos ver algunas situaciones hilarantes y peleas grandiosas pero luego el film se torna más oscuro por la invasión japonesa que diezmo la población de Fon Shan en los años 40.
La hambruna y los trabajos forzados azotaron a la provincia, haciendo que muchos perecieran de hambre y la moral de la población disminuyo haciéndolos casi esclavos. El mismo Ip Man debió de hacer estos trabajos forzados para poder traer algo de comida para su casa, ya que lo había perdido todo.
One of the Japanese generals was an expert in Karate and challenged the Chinese in martial arts fights, classifying them as weak and unfit for fighting. Ip man had to witness the death of one of the great masters of the province by a cowardly and sadistic Japanese man, which unleashed the anger of this master accepting the fight against ten karate men and making this scene one of the best choreographies of the arts. martial arts of all time.
Uno de los generales japoneses era un experto en Karate y retaba a los chinos en peleas de artes marciales, clasificándolos de débiles y poco aptos para la lucha. Ip man tuvo que presenciar la muerte de uno de los grandes maestros de la provincia por parte de un japonés cobarde y sádico lo que desato la ira de este maestro aceptando la lucha contra diez karatecas y haciendo de esta escena una de las mejores coreografías de artes marciales de todos los tiempos.
Some take martial arts as an act of supremacy and power towards others, fighting only to be the winner, which is an attitude that has nothing to do with this art. Martial arts are techniques used for our protection and never for domination and they are also a spiritual source for the individual, forging discipline and wisdom.
Ip man, beyond being a great martial artist, was also a wise man with high moral standards. He always defended the defenseless by making him an exemplary man for Chinese citizens. With the passage of time, he became the Wing Chun master par excellence, acquiring many followers.
Algunos toman las artes marciales como un acto de supremacía y poder hacia otros, luchando solo por ser el vencedor cosa que es una actitud que no tiene que ver nada con este arte. Las artes marciales son técnicas empleadas para nuestra protección y jamás para la dominación y también son una fuente espiritual para el individuo, forjando una disciplina y sabiduría.
Ip man, mas allá de ser un gran artista marcial, también fue un hombre sabio con altos estándares morales. Siempre defendió al indefenso haciéndolo un hombre ejemplar para los ciudadanos chinos. Con el paso del tiempo logro convertirse en el maestro de Wing Chun por excelencia adquiriendo muchos seguidores.
Another of the most interesting scenes in this production is the fight between Ip man and the Japanese general. An epic fight that lasts a little longer than the previous ones creating a climax and tension typical of a movie. One of the followers of the Japanese general, seeing that he was defeated, shoots Ip man but cannot end his life.
The Chinese people were subjugated in a vile way in these times, something that still resides in the memory of many Chinese, creating an antagonism towards the Japanese, however the film does not propose to create a hatred towards them but rather to narrate the events that occurred at the time and raise the vigor of the Chinese people thanks to the figure of Ip man.
Otra de las escenas más interesantes de esta producción es la pelea de Ip man con el general japonés. Una pelea épica que se prolonga un poco más que las anteriores creando un clímax y tensión propio de una película. Uno de los seguidores del general japonés al ver que este fue derrotado le da un disparo a Ip man pero no consigue acabar con su vida.
El pueblo chino fue subyugado de una manera vil en estos tiempos cosa que aun reside en la memoria de muchos chinos creando un antagonismo hacia los japoneses sin embargo la película no plantea crear un odio hacia estos sino más bien narrar los acontecimientos ocurridos en la época y alzar el vigor del pueblo chino gracias a la figura de Ip man.
Donnie Yen himself has many Japanese friends, martial arts colleagues, so the film is far from suffering from any kind of xenophobia.
After the resounding success of this film, many more were created telling us the adventures of the great master and promoting the culture of Wing Chun internationally. The first film is the one that contains the most real events, however the second has a quite interesting story.
In conclusion one of my favorite fight movies, with a deep historical background and a message of wisdom, respect and motivation. If you like martial arts movies like me, especially Chinese ones, Ip man will undoubtedly be to your liking.
El mismo Donnie Yen tiene muchos amigos japoneses colegas de artes marciales por lo que la película dista mucho de padecer cualquier tipo de xenofobia.
Despues del rotundo éxito de esta película se crearon muchas más contándonos las aventuras del gran maestro y promoviendo la cultura del Wing Chun a nivel internacional. La primera película es la que más hechos reales contiene sin embargo la segunda tiene una historia bastante interesante.
En conclusión una de mis películas favoritas de lucha, con un trasfondo histórico profundo y un mensaje de sabiduría, respeto y motivación. Si te gustan como a mí las películas de artes marciales en especial las chinas, indudablemente Ip man va a ser de tu agrado.
