Jeongnyeon: The star is born has been very popular among sapphic women ever since it was released. Originally, the manhwa was GL, so everyone had high expectations for GL action, especially with Kim Taeri as the main cast. Fans already had high hopes since Kim Taeri is well known for her role in the GL movie The Handmaiden.
I was reading comments about this show back then, though not enough to make me watch this show at that time. You see, I was watching Shogun , which was released around the same time as Jeongnyeon. which I totally regret not watching it in real time 😔 i could've sailled with the fans during that time, now im commenting 2 years later hahaha!
But anyway, going back to my review though pardon me, because it's mostly just a review of my personal feelings while watching.
Honestly, the actress Jung Eunchae was the main reason why I watched this series. I saw images and videos of her on twitter regarding her new series Flex x Cop 2. The people in the comments were going wild over her. That made me curious, and of course, my tiktok algorithm did its thing, showing her mini sapphic edits. Reading how thirsty the ladies were in the comments was very intriguing! I wanted to see her act, which actually led me to watch her series Honour (2026) first and Jeongnyeon after, even though eunchae was the reason, i began to love all the characters in jeongnyeon, if you watch it you'll understand why.
when i watched the cast perform for the first time in one of the episodes, i thought "damn this show is so good, all the actresses performing here is so good" . I remember seeing glimpses of news about them learning pansori just for this series, and i fully admire their dedication. the show is just mind blowing, especially when kim taeri (jeongnyeon) was performing her first role as bangja
My favorite part of the play was when her stick broke, she lost her balance and toppled down, yet she continued to perform. I thought, "Kim Taeri is such a good actress how can a person be this good at acting?" Pure amazement was all I could feel. I was instantly hooked! I found myself looking forward to their performances in every episode, wondering how Taeri would pull off the character assigned to her in the script. It's like I just can't get enough of it. 😣
my favorite moments are with jooran and jeongnyeon, even though they are bestfriends, with the tension around them sometimes I could actually think they have something going on, especially this scene that got me giggling, though they are just practicing their script roles in here, still, the tension is just crazy and i just know jooran felt something she shouldn't feel during that era hahaha!
"I can't think straight" was joorans words when she said she couldn't act with jeongnyeon, i mean, i understand her! hahahaha i know you like her jooran, you just couldn't let yourself feel it since it's forbidden that time hahaha
HEARTBREAKING SCENE
ahh yes the classic gl tradition, breaking up even though they aren't even together yet hahaha
Jooran: forget all about me and live your life. I'll remember everything for us, I promise to live my life feeling guilty, i promise to always suffer, everytime i think of you. Goodbye jeongnyeon my one and only prince.

with the forget me not flower at that 😭 jooran lowkey saying "Don't forget me" i bawled my eyes out! 🤧🤧🤧 otsukoshii, subarashii, magnificent, im truly impressed at this show because it touched every core in my heart
just thinking of jooran longing for jeongneyon is heartbreaking and at the same time so beautiful, the way the director let us fans think that its not a gl, but living it in our imagination, like director my imagination is going beyond what i see, because there's no way this is not gl, bestfriends don't do these kind of things, but anyway my heart is crying and broken with this kind of scenes, doomed yuri is the term for us gl enjoyers, but anyways no wonder kim taeri won an award for this, the girl played many different roles in the show, i remember people arguing online about why IU didnt win for whe life give you tangerines while taeri did for this, but once you actually watch jeongnyeon, people will understand why, I'm so glad taeri won, she deserves it in fact everyon in Jeongnyeon: The star is born deserves the kind of reward and recognition! the show is a masterpiece
i forgot to mention the other characters in the show that left an impression to me was, jeongnyeon sister, every time she's on screen or acting, you just can't help but cry. made me wonder who this actrress was and why not she's not famous, her acting is just superb a diamond in the rough and also shin ye eun played by yeong-seo, the rival of taeri here, girl is such a great actress, even in the glory she left quite a scary impression on me, though im seeing a new side of her here that made me think she's really good of an actress too!
This show reminded me of how much I love to experience theatre art performance once in my life, it also made me feel how much I love historical dramas too if i could rate this kdrama series it's 1000/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me, highly recommended 💞
