It's nice to see a movie and that it meets your expectations or almost all of them, there are a thousand movies about serial killers, some are exciting and comforting to know that they are fiction, others make our skin crawl a little because they are based on real life and show how disturbed some people can be.

For a while now I had added a movie to my Netflix list and hadn't managed to get together with my husband to watch it and I took advantage of today's break we were able to watch this movie that focuses on the rivalry between a detective and a serial killer

    Luther: The Fallen Sun

This film is inspired by the series of the same name and stars Idris Elba who plays Jhon Luther, this man is an inspector or detective of the London police investigating events related to a young man named Callum, falling into disgrace is put in prison, but the serial killer David Robey played David Robey sends him a card to his cell for this tune to an FM station and thus torture him knowing that he could not help Calum, but achieves the opposite effect, as this decides to escape to catch the sadistic killer.

    image.png

    Source

Now, the movie is not perfect, actually I think none of them are, there are details that obviously only happen in a movie and very hardly in real life, like the moment when he escapes, when he was the most hated man in prison for being a cop and all the prisoners wanted to kill him, to mention just one, but there are situations that this movie presents us with that make us think.

The plot goes beyond the serial killer, because this man had surrounded himself with others to develop a dark site or rather, a club called Red Room; an online site designed so that those who connect can see live how they torture certain victims, until they lead to their death, this streaming portal obtained its participants or part of them by kidnapping and the other by extortion, blackmailing people, which brings us to another great reality of modern times, privacy does not exist.

    image.png

    Source

Likewise, seeing all this made me think or remember about a concern that many of us have, as I mentioned privacy, if it still exists, nowadays I think that in one way or another there are ways to know the tastes, opinions and even say carnal inclinations of all, thanks to the digital age, we all somehow do things that only we know on the internet and in one way or another are recorded and that is one of the things that very clearly shows us the film.

Thus, we can see in one scene how there is a group, let's say of operatives who activate various smart devices and spy on people in various ways, and after knowing their darkest secrets or after deceiving them to do something terrible, blackmail them, since they had everything recorded and could make it reach their families, friends and workplaces.

    image.png

    Source

Seeing part of this film reminded me of Hostel, where we see a group of bored rich people who no longer knew what to do for fun and created this club where they kidnapped people and killed them after torturing them, the difference here is that the viewers are not personally, in this one they are spectators via online, but they still have some degree of participation and complicity, as they participated by voting and giving suggestions on how to torture the victims.

In conclusion, although this film, as I pointed out, has its details, but it keeps you attentive because you want to know how events unfold and it seems to me, it illustrates or reminds us of something that is very real for a long time, the problem of privacy for online users and how they can even see what you do at home thanks to certain devices in our society, without forgetting that there are people who are dedicated to extort in various ways to others after discovering or obtaining private information.

  2. [ES-EN] Crime Movie On Netflix: Luther: The Fallen Sun@joheredia211078d

    Luther: The Fallen Sun

    [English Version]

In the case of Netflix, there is opportunity to watch good productions, sometimes there is some fear in wanting to risk a few hours of life in watching an unknown film, sometimes I take that risk and as any bet goes well or goes wrong, however, in terms of movies, we could say that there is a middle ground, a point at which we simply accept that it was not the best of decisions, but it could have been better, I feel that's what happened to me with this film and in this new review I give you my point of view.

    Source

This is a film based on a series that ended a few years ago and as the current trend dictates, it is necessary to resurrect as many productions as possible to squeeze every last penny, taking advantage of a marketing work already done and that many already know.

    Synopsis

The film shows us the detective Luther, in charge of solving a mystery, but who has not been entirely correct in his past, consequently sent to jail, from there he must find a way to solve the mystery before the murderer strikes again.

    Crime film

This is a crime film, one of those with a mystery that can be intriguing at many times, I like films that give us surprises, so I like detective films, although in this case, we know the antagonist from the first minute, so we must discover is the method and the reasons why he commits these ruthless acts of violence, in addition to making a psychological picture of this villain that in my opinion resembles other franchises.

    Luther-Batman

Maybe it's just me, but I noticed some inescapable similarities that go directly to Batman, much of the detective plot and even the protagonist as the antagonist show us a movie similar to any Batman comic book but without costume.

One of the scenes that begin to unleash in my mind these references is where the detective is on top of a building, just watching, I immediately remembered the way Batman watches over the city from above, well Luther apparently has the same habit.

Another similarity that also caught my attention was the antagonist, which is a kind of psychopath that could well be adapted to a comic book, a ruthless character, with some charisma and eloquence, but with a twisted mind, with some similarity to the Joker in essence, of course, Joker is a great character and one of my favorite movie characters, for that reason I noticed that resemblance about the antagonist.

    image.png

    Source

The police plot is also similar, we can even see a kind of commissioner Gordon, who is the one who helps from the police station to the vigilante detective, although this can be a mix between Alfred and Gordon because he handles both the part of advisor and trusted police.

Are these similarities positive or negative?

It depends on each viewer, in my particular case I felt the impression that you can't write an original script without keeping a plot line of a famous and accepted worldwide franchise, although I must clarify that I didn't watch the series, so I have no idea if the series keeps this plot with the subtle approach to Batman.

In my case I felt they were negative, even though I always liked these police plots, what really motivated me to rate it as a negative aspect is that throughout the footage it becomes such an obvious feature that it becomes somewhat annoying.

    Source

    Cinematic Universe

Something that ended up unleashing my curiosity about this film comes from another production on Netflix called Extraction 2, a film in which the protagonist of Luther (Idris Elba) appears sharing a few scenes with Chris Hemsworth, they are specific scenes at the beginning and end of the film.

Both productions focus on action and it seems that there may be a connection due to the fact that the end of Luther opens precisely that door, not directly showing the connection, but as if to expand that universe.

Being completely honest, at the time of this writing I do not know of any news about the connection of both productions, however, by the plot and the end of these stories may be the same cinematic universe.

    Source

    Action

The film (as well as expected) has action, however, it doesn't seem to me of as much quality as for example the scenes of Extraction which I found really remarkable, the way long scenes are shot, this one in particular barely fulfills the dose of action we want to see.

In terms of special effects, the film does not need much due to the plot, however, I think it meets expectations considering it is a crime script, although with some touches of Batman.

    Source

    Rating

    6.9 ⭐️

    Conclusions

It seems to me an entertaining film, but not memorable, maybe to spend an afternoon, but I really feel that it lacked originality to the plot and not follow the commercial way of Batman, despite this I feel that this universe has good potential, I just hope that the development is a little better and perhaps more original.

While it seems a review with more negative points than positive, I hope to see again this cinematic universe, both Extraction and Luther where perhaps it will be the same, I think that would give a better picture from a plot point of view as well as from an economic point of view, since in my opinion would benefit Netflix the union of both stories.

    Source

    Do I recommend it?

Yes, although you don't have to watch it with high expectations, just have a good time with a decent dose of police action, some good scenes and a nice time watching how the mysteries are solved in a battle of wits between the protagonist and the villain.

I hope you found this review enjoyable and we will see you again very soon to continue talking about the world of cinema, which is not going through its best moments, but is undoubtedly part of all of us.

  3. Disappointing! Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023) || Movie Review.@esther-emmanuel1161d

    IMG_20230422_191013.jpg

'Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023)' is the continuation of the famous TV series 'Luther'. The TV series was entertaining for me and I enjoyed it very much even though I stopped at the second season. I don't know what happened but I think life and work got in the way.

When I heard that a movie was in the works which will serve as a continuation to the TV series, I was ecstatic and anxious to watch it. To be honest, I saw the movie a few weeks ago and have been hesitant to post a review because of how I felt about it afterwards.

'Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023)' is a crime thriller movie that was produced by a large group of people, including Idris Elba. The movie was distributed by Netflix directed by Jamie Payne and written by Neil Cross. Idris Elba played the main character in the film, which also starred Andy Serkis, Dermot Crowley, and Cynthia Erivo. The plot of the movie centers around John Luther (Idris Elba), who escapes from prison to bring down a vicious serial killer who is hellbent on destroying John's career and frightening London.

    A Little About The Plot.

    IMG_20230422_191124.jpg

    IMG_20230422_191210.jpg

The movie begins with Callum Aldrich, a young man, receiving a phone call from a serial killer David Robey. David blackmails this young man into doing his will, and it is later revealed that he was kidnapped by David. So John Luther was tasked with solving the case and returning Callum back to his mother. During his investigation into Callum's kidnapping, John promised his mother that he would find her son by whatever means necessary but it didn't work out that way.

    IMG_20230422_191456.jpg

    IMG_20230422_191810.jpg

David realized that Luther was on to him, so to derail Luther's efforts on the case, David dug out some old dirt on Luther and used it against him to get him dismissed, convicted, and imprisoned. During Luther's confinement, David got busy and annoyingly creative by tricking all the parents of his kidnapped victims' together with Callum's mother to a house/mansion in the middle of nowhere, only for the parents to discover that the body of their children was hanging from the ceiling of the house/mansion. He then set fire to their bodies with a prearranged explosive phone on the floor, allowing the parents to see their children's bodies burn with the house.

    IMG_20230422_192052.jpg

    IMG_20230422_192218.jpg

    IMG_20230422_192308.jpg

After David committed this heinous act, he sent a recording of Callum's last moments before he killed him to Luther in prison. This enraged Luther, and he began to find every means possible of getting himself out of prison to apprehend David. The chase is on now; will Luther succeed in bringing down David? Will there be justice?

    Characters.

    Idris as John Luther

    IMG_20230422_191952.jpg

Idris acted as an efficient and intelligent detective, but he was dismissed and imprisoned for his unorthodox ways. His performance was engaging and amazing. He was the main character, and he also made sure to remain in the spotlight in every scene. His character was strong and persistent regardless of all that he encountered, and at the end he achieved his aim. The only problem I had with his character was his fighting skills and stunts. I mean, he is a detective; why fight like a farmer or someone who is just trying to survive death with survival instinct?

    Andy as David Robey

    IMG_20230422_191350.jpg

Andy acted as a tech billionaire who is a psychotic and sadistic serial killer who was hell-bent on getting Luther's attention and ruining his career, which he successfully did. His role was well scripted with a sadistic tone, which made him the perfect opponent for Luther. His performance was fantastic; I mean, he is always playing a villain. If you have watched him in 'Black Panther (2018)' and 'Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)', you know what I am talking about. His performance made the movie more interesting and challenging to watch with tension as he rocked his questionable, ridiculous and distracting wig, he still manages to turn in an amazing creepy performance.

    Cynthia as DCI Odette Raine

    IMG_20230422_193027.jpg

Cynthia acted as the detective who replaced Luther's old boss. She was also in charge of apprehending David while Luther was in confinement. Her performance was the worst; her character was poorly built; her mannerisms didn't fit her role; and she acted like an amateur to me. I felt like her role was unnecessary. If another person would have carried her role with more grace and passion it would have been better.

    My Review And Rating.

Rating this movie, I give it 3.8 out of 5 stars. The reason why I was reluctant to write a review on the movie was because I went in to watch this movie with excitement and high expectations from the series. I was disappointed, and I didn't even know what to say about the movie. This follow-up movie to the series is disappointing; I wish they would have done better.

When I was watching the movie, I was a little bit bored from the beginning because the beginning was slow. I had to pause it and come back to it after a few days. The movie lacks originality and intrigue, as it recycles many elements from many other movies similar to it.

The plot was okay, but it had many holes and moments that didn’t add up, but I also think the problem was the cast, action scenes, villain's ridiculous appearance and plot arrangement. That was what messed up the movie for me.

Setting was cool, the location for filming was amazing and incredible, I loved it. The director did a good job but failed with fight stunts, because I felt like I was watching some bunch of farmers looking for the thief that stole their farm produce. The ending was not satisfying and it was unrealistic to me. I was expecting that the movie had a good ending but the ending just made the movie seem like a B-class movie.

If you have watched the series, I recommend and advise you against watching this follow up movie because it is going to be a big disappointment for you and you won't be satisfied with it.

  4. Luther the fallen sun (netflix movie review)@roadstories1191d

Greetings Hivers, happy weekend to all. Yesterday my grandmother was turning 79 so I spent most of the day at her house sharing some time and eating barbecue among family, so I was unable to bring you new material.

I started watching this movie last night, but sleep won the battle. I noted that it was not because the plot was bad, on the contrary it caught my attention much more than when I saw the trailer, but well, I was a little tired and with a small degree of alcohol in my veins lol.

Today in the morning I finished watching it and the truth is that it is very good. It's not one of those plots that explode your head and surprises you every time, but it has an interesting plot with a denouement that even though it could be a bit obvious, it's good.

By the latter I mean that good always wins over evil, that kind of ending. However, talking a bit about the plot I think it is realistic but quite raw.

By the way, I must say, for a moment I thought I was watching batman, not because there is a hero with a suit that flies or anything like that, it is more about the message or the root of all the events where something very important is made clear that I will tell you more about later.

The main plot of this movie is to catch the bad guy, or rather a rather morbid killer who not only kills for pleasure, he also likes to gloat in the crowd as if to give a somewhat crazy message.

The way he traps his victims is quite curious and clever, he uses their moral weaknesses to manipulate them, kidnap them and use them for his theatrics. I say theater because everything is really a show, not well seen to any eye, but to some who take pleasure in seeing defeated or fallen those who are supposed to have always had a good and quiet life.

However, secrets always come to light in one way or another, here it is in a very disturbing way and it seems that they will be executed with all the theater that this murderer sets up. The problem for this murderer is that a detective is after him with enough clues, besides he is very smart, he understands the game and has very good contacts that support them.

This makes the game more interesting in itself, but a false move could collapse everything, so he uses the same method to make this agent end up behind bars, that is to use his moral vulnerability to uncover secrets and use it against him.

But this man as I said before has a way to clear any barrier and with the help of a contact manages to get out of jail, under the need to put an end to the killings.

This detective and now ex-convict is always one step ahead of the police as the killer leaves clues to his whereabouts. It may come as a surprise, but it is obvious that many of the moves this detective made were planned by the killer.

Only one slip was missing for everything to begin to fall apart because the infiltrator he had in the detective's department fell into a trap and was discovered. This gave the opportunity for good to have the upper hand, however there were several collateral damages.

The most interesting thing to open the end of this movie is a place called "red room". When I heard it I thought it was about white slavery, but no. This is a closed space, with cameras where the viewers choose what they should do with the victim. This is a closed space, with cameras where the spectators choose what they should do with the victim. This as a method to surely feel pleasure or revenge.

In this particular case, not only do they exploit their insecurities and vulnerabilities, they also make it clear that no one is free of guilt, that it only takes one choice to become the bad person. In this way, those who pointed out some wrongdoing become the bad guys too, a rather disturbing psychological game on morality.

The ending is somewhat fascinating, as Luther uses the same strategy of the murderer to make him unstable and thus overthrow the false message he preaches and end it all.

  5. Fresh And Exciting —Review Of Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023)@kemmyb1200d

    IMG_20230316_185759.jpg Source

If there's a British actor's film I wouldn't miss for the world, it's Idris Elba. I've always gushed about his acting skills and most of all, his rugged, good looks will always get me to the cinema to see him in action!

Speaking of action, Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023) is one action-packed, crime thriller that will take your breath away and pump you full of adrenaline. It is a smooth continuation of the TV series for their fans and can be a standalone or sort of introduction for newcomers who want a piece of the action. Whichever it is, know that the film features the suave actor in dangerous scenes that are not for the fainthearted.

Directed by Jamie Payne and written by Neil Cross, this film picks up from where season five of the series ended with the kidnapping of a young man, Callum. John Luther (played by Idris Elba) arrives at a murder scene where the body of a missing victim is found inside a car parked beside Callum's car.

    *[Source: YouTube](https://youtu.be/EGK5qtXuc1Q)*

Luther lays out the possibility that the killer used the scene as a trap for Callum. He makes Callum's agitated mum a promise to bring her son home. When the killer, David Robey (played by Andy Serkis), learns of Luther's involvement in the case, he mobilises someone to release incriminating information to the press that gets Luther arrested and imprisoned for his unorthodox way of handling cases.

While in prison, Robey stages a scene where some people are killed and burned up in a house. He sends a message to Luther in prison with an FM radio frequency number, taunting him. When Luther tunes in, he hears the cries of Callum as he is being tortured. Luther tries to get the present DCI, Odette Raine (played by Cynthia Erivo), to believe him but she shuts him out. He makes contact with the outside world and somehow gets out of prison to pursue the evasive serial killer. Will he succeed in catching the killer?

    Review

The film throws fans into nostalgia as we watch Idris Elba in action after the end of the fifth season of the British crime show. It was a thrilling watch and I was on the edge of my seat all through the two hours, ten minutes viewing time. Netflix is to be commended for giving this film a fresh and exciting look.

The plot, setting and acting were superb. The scenes are well paced and there is not a single dull moment. The cinematography is excellent. For those who are sensitive, there are grisly scenes that would shock you. So if you cannot handle some gore, it's best not to see this film.

It is good to see some of the old cast back and the inclusion of a few new ones. Their chemistry is great, the action and stunts were impressive. I particularly enjoyed the Piccadilly Circus scene.

    The Protagonist

Idris Elba's acting skills are second to none. His performance is outstanding as he makes a hero of DCI John Luther and as such, we have no need for James Bond. Kidding. As a senior police officer who investigates some of London's gruesome murders and brings their killers to justice, he is tough and intelligent with a penchant for bending the rules. This character steals your attention and admiration such that you would want him to solve your cases rather than the real police.

All five seasons of Luther and this film represents Idris Elba at his best. His brooding demeanour and confidence are charming.

    The Villain

This is not Andy Serkis' first rodeo as a villain. If you remember him as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings films, you'll agree he is perfect as the villain in Luther: The Fallen Sun. His control of victims by hacking their webcams and smart devices, recording their shameful sexual secrets and blackmailing them makes him scary. His level of cruelty and craziness makes him an excellent adversary worthy of DCI Luther.

The only character I'm not too impressed with is DCI Raine played by Cynthia Erivo. Her acting is awkward, stiff and a little slow. For a detective inspector, she did not put in much effort. Could it be the effect of having a desk job rather than being on the field? Regardless, Jamie Payne puts her forward as the leader of a police team, she should have acted and made decisions accordingly. Let's hope some changes will be made in this regard in the next film.

The ending is satisfying and viewers hail their hero, Luther, for a well done job. Does this mean John Luther is done? Not quite. This film gives viewers a teaser at the end that more sequels will be released afterwards. We will be seeing John Luther in action soon enough.

Overall, this film is captivating and I recommend it to all thriller lovers. I rate it 4 stars out of 5.

  6. (ESP-ENG) Luther [2023] - Hunting down the worst killer!@javyeslava.photo1202d

    **

Hola amigos, buenas vibras para todos.

    **

Hello friends, good vibes to all.

How would you feel if someone knew a secret of yours, that which you have kept under the table for so many years and suddenly someone threatens to make it public through the worst blackmail that can be done to a person? - Well, basically the answer to that complicated question is the main plot of this new installment of this famous police inspector who is back with a really impressive thriller. Idris Elba is a top actor, remembered in movies like Hobbs & Shaw from Fast and Furious or being Bloodsport in Suicide Squad, so it is hard to imagine a film with him in it being boring and without any action; fortunately this was not the case.

But besides Elba, there is another heavyweight of the good guys and this is Andy Serkis, one of the most important actors in the industry since he gave life to Gollum, Snoke from the Star Wars universe and even Caesar from Planet of the Apes. This time we see him in person playing a killer, a very twisted and crude one it must be said. The reality is that with this pair of actors the movie, in my opinion, is one that has no waste; I arrived with moderate expectations but in the end it ended up being a very good material carried in the best way by Elba and Serkis. And in its two hours you won't get bored, I'm telling you. But well, let's go a little more to the point and talk more in depth about this new Netflix bet.

The first thing to say is that this movie is based on the series of the same name, so it is likely to sound familiar if you have ever seen it. This story begins with John Luther (Idris Elba), one of the smartest, brightest and most perceptive police inspectors out there, who for various reasons falls into some sort of disgrace and is taken to jail. The thing is that before this happens he was leading a case that in the end he fails to solve, this makes his mind is always somewhere else so the torment is often not normal. But as I said, this man is not just anyone and he manages to get out of that prison and manages to hunt down one of the worst killers he has had to deal with.

The killer in question is David (Andy Serkis) a really obnoxious and damaged guy who will turn London upside down. The plot kicks off at this point when we see a chase full of wit, intelligence and above all a significant police knowledge on Luther's part as he is able to create a profile of the killer with just a couple of clues in his hands. In this film you will find a decent police thriller with a bit of suspense that puts the viewer in tension and also has an intrigue to know what may be the next step of both protagonists.

Something that surprised me about the film is that in addition to everything said about being a good thriller it has a very good dose of violence, I did not expect this, but yes, behind each murder there is a macabre game quite twisted, something like "SAW" which gives a different touch to the film. And not only Luther has to deal with a murderer who has resources but also has to do it with his mind totally disconnected from reality; but do not be confused, he is not just anyone, he is a very capable guy who knows how to anticipate every move. The truth is that the film, I repeat again, does not bore you because from minute one there is action and contrariness, it manages to get you into the situation quickly and above all it manages to keep you hooked all the time.

In addition to all that has been said, we can also say that the psychological aspect is very much in action. I say this because it is a murderer who plays with people's fear, with shame, who searches for any crack to finish breaking you, is one who uses blackmail to play with people and that these are a little at the mercy of a person who with a click can end the lives of the victims. It is interesting to see how people act under coercion, how far people are capable of going as long as something is not known?; that something has the power to end someone's personal, sentimental or work life? - Undoubtedly the situation is distressing and is one which serves as gunpowder to explode the plot.

Good action scenes and hand-to-hand combat, good exteriors, there is a particular rawness in some passages that are appreciated because as I said it will always look good an extra gore or blood; it is not something exaggerated but enough to make it look good. As for the characters, we should talk about the two main ones. Let's start with Andy Serkis who for me is the star of the film. He is a really unpresentable person, he has a very unique malice, if that exists, that makes you hate him at the first instant. But it's a malice that is accompanied by an over-the-top violence that makes him to some extent unpredictable in his actions. I think that this compartment is not so much a product of a trauma, I think there are people who are born with that index of evil to the fullest; history has shown it many times. In the end it's a very good role for Serkis in which he shows what a good actor he is.

And well what to say about Iris, I think these characters are made for him, the typical tough, reckless cop who always seeks to put face and body no matter what. In this case he is the cop that despite having a slightly shady past is always going to seek to do good, first is to catch his prey and then you see the consequences. He's a kind of vigilante who takes justice into his own hands, he's like a superhero, only here everyone knows him. That said, Elba is also extremely good at what he does, all of his roles are engaging, action-packed and by no means boring.

Anyway, a very energetic movie, full of action, violence, very explicit at times; it is a very good police and detective thriller and good with the suspense characteristic of these plots that is full of intrigue and perennial stress.
