En el cine existe un sin número de películas las cuales tienen como base de su historia el ataque de animales; como todo podemos encontrar producciones de buena categoría como "The Birds" (1963) película dirigida por Alfred Hitchcock, "JAWS" (1975) dirigida por Steven Spielberg y otras como "King Kong" o el mismo "Cujo" basada en una novela de Stephen King; estás películas muy reconocidas, con buena base de seguidores; este tipo de producciones influencian a directores y escritores en la creación de nuevas historias que pueden ser un éxito o no y es que últimamente, este tipo de películas busca más que nada ser una simple atracción en vez de ser algo que perdure en el tiempo; un claro ejemplo son de las muchas películas creadas por el canal de cable "SyFy" las cuales con producciones de muy mala calidad crearon una base de fans que le gusta este tipo de historias absurdas sobre ataque de animales y que el único fin no es de innovar al mundo del cine, sino entretener a un público que les gusta este tipo de películas y pienso que justamente eso sucede con quiénes crearon el film a qué hago reseña en esta publicación, buscar captar a cierto público que se entretengan al ver un animal bajo los efectos de una fuerte droga atacar a quien se le atraviese en el camino.
In movies there are a number of films which have as a basis of their story the attack of animals; as all we can find productions of good category as "The Birds" (1963) film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, "JAWS" (1975) directed by Steven Spielberg and others like "King Kong" or the same "Cujo" based on a novel by Stephen King; these are very well known movies, with a good fan base; this kind of productions influence directors and writers in the creation of new stories that can be a success or not, and lately, this kind of movies look more than anything else to be a simple attraction instead of being something that lasts in time; A clear example is the many movies created by the cable channel "SyFy" which with very poor quality productions created a fan base that likes this kind of absurd stories about animal attacks and that the only purpose is not to innovate the world of cinema, but to entertain an audience that likes this kind of movies and I think that's exactly what happens with those who created the film that I review in this publication, seeking to capture a certain audience that is entertained by seeing an animal under the effects of a strong drug attack anyone who crosses its path.
En "Cocaine Bear" veremos una historia que se desarrolla en mediados de los 80', una época en dónde la cocaína tenía gran demanda en el suelo americano (para no decir en todo el mundo); justamente un traficante al no poder completar su misión decide liberar peso arrojando parte del cargamento que trasladaba y este cae en una zona boscosa, preferiblemente en "Chattahoochee–Oconee National Forest", en esa zona donde turistas y demás personas realizan diferentes actividades para estar en contacto con la naturaleza, verán como un habitante de ese bosque, un Oso Negro, el cual al estar bajo los efectos de la cocaína, pasará de ser uno de los animales más pacíficos del bosque a ser un letal depredador; esto hará que quienes se topen con dicho animal deberán huir por sus vidas para no ser víctima del nuevo vicio de un Oso.
Recuerdo que varias cosas se me vino a la mente en el momento de leer una breve sinopsis del film; este asunto sobre un Oso que se convierte en una máquina de asesinar por estar bajo los efectos de la cocaína, primeramente me pareció genial porque sabía que existía la oportunidad de tener escenas gráficas y divertidas, esa en parte era mi primera y gran expectativa del film y es que no esperaba más porque sabía que no quería hacer una profunda opinión sobre guion, actuación, aunque si quería que ocurriera una buena dirección y tuve dudas cuando fue nombrada Elizabeth Banks para ser la directora del film; esto lo digo porque "Charlie's Angels" del 2019 es una de las peores películas que he visto; en esta oportunidad creo que se favorece mucho por el absurdo de la historia y su poco presupuesto; eso hace que se enfoque mucho en personajes que sabes que serán víctimas, creo que eso es lo más importante del film, ya que en mi opinión es lo principal y en esas escenas se hace un buen trabajo, especialmente en todo el segundo acto el cual es el mejor en todo el film; con esto digo que Banks no me decepcionó porque hizo un correcto trabajo.
In "Cocaine Bear" we will see a story that takes place in the mid 80's, a time when cocaine was in great demand on American soil (not to say all over the world); just a trafficker unable to complete his mission decides to release weight by throwing part of the shipment that moved and this falls in a wooded area, preferably in "Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest", in that area where tourists and other people perform different activities to be in contact with nature, will see how an inhabitant of the forest, a Black Bear, which being under the effects of cocaine, will go from being one of the most peaceful animals in the forest to be a lethal predator; This will make those who come across this animal must flee for their lives to avoid falling victim to the new vice of a bear.
I remember that several things came to my mind when I read a brief synopsis of the film; this thing about a Bear that turns into a killing machine for being under the effects of cocaine, firstly I thought it was great because I knew that there was the opportunity to have graphic and funny scenes, that in part was my first and great expectation of the film and is that I did not expect more because I knew I did not want to make a deep opinion about script, acting, although I did want a good direction to happen and I had doubts when it was named Elizabeth Banks to be the director of the film; I say this because "Charlie's Angels" of 2019 is one of the worst films I have seen; in this opportunity I think it is favored a lot by the absurdity of the story and its low budget; that makes it focus a lot on characters that you know will be victims, I think that is the most important of the film, since in my opinion is the main thing and in those scenes a good job is done, especially in the whole second act which is the best in the whole film; with this I say that Banks did not disappoint me because she did a correct job.
La historia es simple y vuelvo a repetir, absurda; este film se base en un hecho real y es sobre un oso que murió por consumir cierta cantidad de cocaína; este film desarrolla en sus primeros minutos una historia real la cual en cierto tiempo comienza a usar esta extraña situación en dónde por ciertas razones un grupo de personas serán víctimas de un Oso bajo los efectos de la cocaína; aquí quiero hacer referencia del trabajo realizado por Jimmy Warden en el guion, el cual desarrolla a todos los personajes que aparecen en esta historia, sea de manera indirecta o no; pienso que hace un buen trabajo en mostrar cierta información de los personajes en momentos breves, aunque también creo que se pierde tiempo en otras cosas que alargan una situación cuando se sabe con anterioridad que va a suceder, posiblemente en parte sea predecible aunque creo que se pudo manejar mejor ciertas situaciones.
Las actuaciones no son de lo mejor, no van a ganar ningún premio, no serán resaltados en ningún lado y creo que todos los actores que participaron en el film saben eso y créanme que no les importa; a pesar de eso creo que hay buenos personajes como por ejemplo "Ranger Liz" interpretado por Margo Martindale, "Henry" (mi personaje favorito) interpretado por Christian Convery y el breve trabajo de Ray Liotta cómo "Syd"; me gustó mucho su manera de interpretar a sus personajes y creo que en ellos está en parte el peso del film; sé que también está el trabajo de O'Shea Jackson Jr. y Alden Ehrenreich, quienes tiene más protagonismo en el film, pero el breve trabajo de los primeramente nombrados me agrado más.
The story is simple and again I repeat, absurd; this film is based on a real fact and is about a bear that died from consuming a certain amount of cocaine; this film develops in its first minutes a real story which at a certain time begins to use this strange situation where for certain reasons a group of people will be victims of a bear under the effects of cocaine; here I want to make reference to the work done by Jimmy Warden in the script, which develops all the characters that appear in this story, whether indirectly or not; I think he does a good job in showing certain information of the characters in brief moments, although I also think that time is wasted in other things that lengthen a situation when you know in advance that it will happen, possibly in part is predictable although I think that certain situations could have been handled better.
The performances are not the best, they won't win any awards, they won't be highlighted anywhere and I think all the actors that participated in the film know that and believe me they don't care; in spite of that I think there are good characters like for example "Ranger Liz" played by Margo Martindale, "Henry" (my favorite character) played by Christian Convery and the brief work of Ray Liotta as "Syd"; I really liked the way he played his characters and I think that in them is partly the weight of the film; I know that there is also the work of **O'Shea Jackson Jr. ** and Alden Ehrenreich, who have more prominence in the film, but I liked the brief work of the first named more.
Cocaine Bear no es la mejor película y hasta puedo decir que es regular, ya que en su corto metraje puedo resaltar el gran segundo acto que es una completa secuencia donde justamente el Oso es el gran protagonista; sé que puede ser que el film no puede mostrar siempre los ataques del Oso y debe desarrollar otras cosas, pero creo que hay algunas que en mi opinión no debieron estar como por ejemplos algunos personajes que no tienen sentido que estén ahí, creo que debieron ser mejor escritos y posiblemente hubieran funcionado mejor; lo que acabo de describir junto a la poca emoción del final es lo que resta puntos al film y es que lamentablemente el film se convierte víctima en no poder superar lo hecho en escenas anteriores y eso es completamente culpa de su guionista, director y posiblemente ese corto presupuesto. Hay algo que quiero hacer referencia y es la comedia, la cual tiene momentos buenos; es algo muy típico en estas películas de terror con comedias y pude encontrar cierto parecido con "The Return of the Living Dead" (1985) y es que usa mucho lo referente a la sorpresa del ataque y a la vez lo divertido en una situación de vida o muerte; percibí más influencia en eso que en el mismo JAWS, la cual también hay referencia, pero es poca. Paso cerrar, puedo decir que este es un film entretenido, cumplió con las pocas expectativas que tenía y mi consejo por si deciden ver este film es que no esperen algo impresionante, sepan que es una comedia de terror en dónde un grupo de personas estarán en un lugar equivocado y que pueden ser víctimas de un Oso adicto a la cocaína.
Cocaine Bear is not the best film and I can even say that it is regular, because in its short footage I can highlight the great second act which is a complete sequence where the Bear is the main protagonist; I know that the film can not always show the Bear's attacks and should develop other things, but I think there are some that in my opinion should not have been there as for example some characters that do not make sense to be there, I think they should have been better written and possibly would have worked better; What I just described together with the little emotion at the end is what subtracts points to the film and unfortunately the film becomes a victim of not being able to overcome what was done in previous scenes and that is completely the fault of its screenwriter, director and possibly that short budget. There is something I want to make reference to and that is the comedy, which has good moments; it is something very typical in these horror films with comedies and I could find some resemblance with "The Return of the Living Dead" (1985) and it is that it uses a lot of the surprise of the attack and at the same time the fun in a life or death situation; I perceived more influence in that than in JAWS itself, which there is also reference, but it is little. In closing, I can say that this is an entertaining film, it fulfilled the few expectations I had and my advice if you decide to see this film is not to expect something impressive, know that it is a horror comedy where a group of people will be in a wrong place and may be victims of a Bear addicted to cocaine.
