When I start series, I can really dive into them and this was no different with Master of None. It took me only two weeks to watch all three seasons on Netflix, despite being very busy at work! I guess it says something about the quality of the show (or maybe how much time I waste on Netflix...)

So what is Master of None?
Maybe you know the creater/main character of this show Aziz Ansari? He is not only an actor but also a stand-up comedian and in Master of None he combines both effortlessly. In the first 2 seasons we follow Dev, a young Indian-American who tries to make it as an actor in New York, while also juggling his friends, dating in the modern day and age and his friends.
What makes the show so great is that I think everyone can relate to the modern day problems shown by Ansari: how do you find THE ONE when online dating gives you so many possibilities? How do you deal with the generation differences between you and your parents? What if your job is not really what you expected but you need the money? Mix these with modern characters that everyone can relate to and you've got yourself a winner!

But then they mixed it up...
So with season 1 and 2 doing very well Ansari could have chosen the way of so many Netflix series and just carried on making season after season. But he did not. He made season 3: there not Dev, but his African-American gay best friend Denise plays the lead. And instead of focusing on the hustle and bustle of modern life it instead zooms in on Denise's relationship with Alicia going through different stages. This season, aptly called" Moments in Love" is a complete turnaround from the other two seasons. Not only is the topic different, but the whole atmosphere changes! We are now in an intimate, quiet setting containing heart-break, loss, growth and acceptance.

I have to say, it was a big transition for me. I would recommend taking a viewing break between season 2 and 3 to avoid a shock to the system. In fact, if the quickness and activity is what you loved in Master of None, maybe season 3 is not for you....
I really enjoyed Master of None, it is a smart show, talking about modern problems, it's funny and at times it makes you think. Have you seen it yet? What did you think?
