In 2016, after Croatian columnist Goran Vojković published an article marking the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Vis a.k.a. Battle of Lissa, a rather lively and interesting Facebook discussion unfolded on the topic. It raised the question of why such an exciting, dynamic, spectacular and historically significant event for this part of the world could not be further evoked in the form of a feature film. The autho…More

Fuente de las imágenes Continuing in the wave of the films of the war genre and based on real events, this time I bring you a movie of 2019 called Midway: Battle in the Pacific . This film shows us one of the most important battles of World War II in the Pacific, where the Japanese and Americans faced each other, where for the first time there was an…More
I am a big fan of World War 2 films especially if they try to make them as historically accurate as possible and have a good enough budget to replicate the various scenes. Obviously putting massive sea battles on film with no longer existing aircraft carriers and planes that only fly a couple times a year in air shows is going to be very difficult to put into a film but with the right CGI it can be done. It's hard for any of us today to fully understand just how much of an underdog the American military was in 1942. In the Pacific the Japanese had a bigger navy, more experience, and often better arms. We had no reason to believe they didn't plan to invade Hawaii, then go on to attack West Coast cities. As nations played a dangerous game of chess across the vast ocean, a tiny, two and a half square mile atoll in the…More
Why the fuck should you watch “Midway”? • You were watching “Dunkirk” last week and thought that it should have had more fight scenes with planes. • You are a history and war enthusiast. • You like boom-boom and piu-piu. • You can easily put yourself in other people’s shoes and think why they did what they did. “Midway” is a war movie that starts with the Pearl Harbor being attacked by Japanese forces and what happe…More
