  1. ASEAN Hive Community Challenge #19 - What’s Your Favorite Movie? : "Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap"@isdarmady1418d

Hello everyone and all members of the ASEAN Hive Community, how are you today? I hope and pray that all of us are always given health, happiness and also patience in living this life. Do you know that every week, the ASEAN Hive Community creates challenges with various interesting themes for us to participate in every week. This week, ASEAN Hive Community Challenge #19 takes the theme “What’s Your Favorite Movie?”

As you know, many people like and love watching movies. Watching movies is one of the activities that can make us happier, relieve stress and boredom in the routines in this life, especially when the movie has an interesting story and is played by our favorite actors and actresses. Everyone has different tastes in the genre of movies they watch and I'm sure that everyone will have a movie that impresses him and will make that movie he will always remember.

My Favorite Movie Right Now I also have several favorite movies that I can tell you, from Hollywood movies, Korean movies, Japanese movies and also Indonesian movies. However, I will choose one Indonesian Movie that impressed me and became my favorite movie. The Indonesian movie is entitled Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap.

Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap is a 2022 Indonesian family drama film. The film was written and directed by Bene Dion Rajagukguk, a director and screenwriter from the Stand Up Comedian background. Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap (in English : Horrible and Delicous) is a term that is often used to describe conditions or situations that are horrible but exciting or delicious. The film received a positive response from the Indonesian people and was a huge success by gaining 2.8 million viewers.

Synopsis This movie tells the story of parents who come from the Batak ethnic group. Pak Domu, the father (played by Arswendy B.S Nasution) and Mak Domu, the mother (played by Tika Panggabean) who live with their daughter, Sarma (played by Gita Butar-Butar) on the edge of Lake Toba. Pak Domu and Mak Domu really want their three sons Domu (played by Boris T. Manulang), Gabe (played by Lolox), and Sahat (played by Indra Jegel) who are overseas and out of town to return home to attend traditional events. sacred. The three boys were reluctant to return home because they had problems and differences in principle with their father. Finally, Pak Domu and Mak Domu made a tactic by pretending to be divorced for their children to go home and put them in a situation and moment that was horrific but also exciting and thrilling.

My reason Horror Sedap is a movie that is very close to me, this movie raises Bataknese culture as the main and most accurate premise, usually elements of Batak culture in Indonesian movies are only used as a patch or complement in movies. As a Batak person, I feel very proud of this movie. Names of characters, accents, traditional ceremonies, traditions, local jokes and also popular Bataknese cuisine appear in the scenes and narration in this movie. Watching this movie, makes many people feel like going home and miss their family.

Apart from being local pride reasons, Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap has the best way to touch human emotions and I feel that way. As we know, the relationship between family members is not always harmonious. The conflict of this film is about how the three boys disobey their father's orders.

Domu, the eldest child, has a problem with his love relationship which is not approved because the woman he chooses is of different ethnicity and religion. Gabe, the second child has a problem because his work as a comedian is not approved, because Gabe is a law graduate and his father wants him to work as a prosecutor or judge. It is different about Sahat the last child, who according to Bataknese culture the last son will inherit the house and must stay at home to take care of his parents, Sahat prefers to stay helping farmers in disadvantaged villages on Java Island.

The complexity of the problem between the different wishes of parents and children often occurs. The conflict is not only for bataknese people but everyone in this world. Moreover, for Asian society the role of the father is very crucial and patriarchal culture emphasizes it. It is very difficult for children to have different opinions or discuss with their parents, so that everyone who has problems with their parents will relate to this movie.

This movie can be said to be a new movie but it was very memorable for me. Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap is the first movie that made me cry in the cinema. Remember, sobbing, not just tears in your eyes. Very emotional conflicts, good acting and quality scenarios make this movie a masterpiece for me.

As a new and fresh Indonesian Movie, Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap tries to appear brave and is very high-risk, I watched the primary time of this film for fear that this film would not sell well and would quickly go down the screen in theaters. As it turned out, this film with local culture won a big gamble.

Keep in mind, Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap does not use the formula for Indonesian blockbusters. The 10 best-selling movies in Indonesia are usually horror, comedy, romance and these movies always use class A actors and actresses. In addition, usually Indonesian films are too Jakarta centric, where each story and premise uses a point of view from Jakarta instead of Indonesian point of view.

According to information from the producer, the plan is that this movie will also air in several countries in Southeast Asia and will also air on OTPs such as Netflix or Hotstar. Hopefully the plan is realized so that everyone can make peace with his family.

  2. Best Movies To Watch, Ngeri Ngeri Sedap@sweetest1474d

    Hello guys....

A few days ago I went to the cinema to watch a film that is currently popular in Indonesia, this movie is entitled 'Ngeri Ngeri Sedap', directed by Bene Dion Rajagukguk, and released on June 2, 2022.

'Ngeri Ngeri Sedap' is a film that tells the story of a family who has a Batak ethnic background, and is located in the area of Lake Toba, North Sumatra. This film tells about the unrest of overseas children who are bound by customs and culture. Where there is a husband and wife who have 4 children, 3 sons and 1 daughter, where their three sons migrated out of town and had not returned for several years. This husband and wife want their children to go home to attend a traditional event that will be held and of course because the parents miss their child. But the children did not want to go home because they had some differences of opinion with their father, but in all kinds of ways the parents did it until finally the children were willing to go home.

Even though they have succeeded in bringing their children back to their hometowns, the problem does not end there, there are still problems between the relationship between the father and his children. But at the end of the story has a good ending and fun.

Watching this film, emotions are like being played with from a funny story that makes the audience laugh but suddenly the audience is made to cry because of the sad story. This film is really like a story that is usually felt in life, very real, moreover I am also a Batak person and live in North Sumatra, so this film feels very close to my life.

This is a must-watch film, the film is very good, this is even included in my favorite movie list. At first, many thought that this film was a comedy because the director and actors were comedians, but in fact this film has a mix of sad and funny stories. This film is very touching, even one cinema room was crying watching this film.

  3. Ngeri-ngeri Sedap, Movie Review@aswita1487d

Hello everyone! This month has finally come, I have been waiting for a long time to watch the film I have been waiting for since the beginning of the year, one of my favorite directors is releasing his work this month and I am really looking forward to it. Benedion is a new director who is packing his work and this is the second film he has made. Although his debut film had many shortcomings, it was able to show that he could be a great director, so I was interested in watching his second film.

    Sinopsis

Ngeri-ngeri Sedap, this film is Benedion Rajagukguk's second work after Ghost Writer. This film tells the story of a Batak tribal family with conflicts that are very relatable to most Batak families. A husband and wife who live in Balige - Lake Toba, have 3 sons and 1 daughter, where the husband and wife really want their children to go home because they have migrated far away to achieve their careers and lives, by all means, the parents were finally able to persuade the three their sons to come home by lying that their parents were getting divorced.

Pros & Cons This film tells a lot of real issues that occur in the life of the Batak family, it is very relatable if the audience comes from a Batak family, even though this film is also very good for movie connoisseurs. The director seems to tell his personal life in the form of a film. Including the conflict with the father, which I really admit that the parents of the Batak family (father) never got along with their son.

As I know, in this film the director is able to show the life of a Batak family who highly respects the comparison of his son's success with other people's children. There are so many parents who equate the success of their children with other people in terms of work, even considering the consideration of matching their children with the same ethnic group. That Batak boys have to marry Batak girls too.

In addition, many Batak girls have dilemmas, especially since there is only one girl who has to follow her parents' wishes. Not even a few Batak parents manage their daughter's work, not allowing their daughter to have big dreams, let alone having to wander far from their parents. The director was able to assemble all these issues into a slick film, although I was a little disappointed because this film did not use the typical Batak language. The director once said that it was very difficult to get actors who could use the Batak language, because it would be very stiff. Batak language is indeed very complex to be used in films. Maybe it will interfere with the acting of the actor/actress.

Review This film is a family comedy genre, played by standup comedians, namely Boris Bokir as the first child (Domu), Gita Bebita (Sharma), Lolox (Gabe), and Jegel as the fourth child (Sahat). The main characters of this film are played by Arswendy Beningswara Nasution and Tika Pangabean.

I really like this film because it has a new story, it discusses something that has never been seen in an Indonesian family film, especially since this film is very relatable to my family who come from a Batak family with the same conflict. While watching, the sinking feeling of being a daughter in a batak family reappears on the surface.

Apart from the storyline, this film has a very good musical arrangement, filled by Viky Sianipar whose quality is beyond doubt, even though he uses Batak folk songs, Viky Sianipar is able to make an ost that can be accepted by all audiences and is amazed by these songs.

One more thing that I can conclude from this film, although it uses several actors from stand-up comedy, the comedy provided is not from the comedians, but the main characters. For me, the acting from the cast is very good even though it's not from real actors but it's very cool, especially when taking one shot which can make my heart torn and shed tears.

I hope you can watch this film as a reference for my version of the best Indonesian film in 2022. So, see you guys!

See you in the next one :)
