Hey Hive guys and @cinetv community 🎥🖥📽🎞, Excited to be back again and tell you about the latest movie I saw, and this time it wasn't assigned by a teacher. I was checking my TikTok and saw a review and it caught my attention, so I didn't think twice and watched it.
My first impression was that it was a horror movie, so I was very excited to see it because I love horror movies; But as the plot developed, I was in suspense. It seemed to me like a film about mothers, in their daily lives with their children and their family lives, their husbands and their future goals, as well as their disagreements and family coexistence.
The film is based on two families with their respective partners and children. They are also neighbors and very good friends. Among the main characters are the two mothers and neighbors, who are friends and confidants. They give advice and support each other. Sometimes one takes the children to school, and when the other can't, they take turns.
Celine is a devoted wife who loves her husband and adores her son. She is happy being a housewife and leads a very joyful life. However, Alice, her neighbor and friend, is dissatisfied and wants to work as a journalist. Although she loves her husband and son, she wants to do something more with her life. Her husband doesn't support this decision and asks her to have another child, but she doesn't want to. Celine understands her, but not entirely, because, as she considers herself very happy, she doesn't understand why her neighbor and friend wants things other than her home and family. However, she offers her full support because she is her friend, and friends support each other. She told her that if it was her decision to work, she would take care of her son, Theo.
This is how the story unfolds, until something unexpected happens that will change the lives of both families in a very alarming way. The story takes a surprising turn. From that decisive moment, it breaks away from the situations we've been witnessing and gives way to scenes filled with despair, grief, and, above all, mistrust.
From the moment the unexpected event occurs, many things happen that will culminate in psychological imbalances, manipulations, and even lead to complete madness.
The two families separate, their friendship ends, and many conflicts come to light, leading to the events that will occur, which will leave their blood running cold and full of questions, doubts, and at the same time, disappointment.
I loved the movie, not because it's pretty, but because it makes us understand that sometimes unexpected things happen that can change everything and trigger a person's cruelest instincts. But at the same time, you wonder what you would have done in both cases. For me, it was a very revealing film because it reveals how far situations beyond our control can take us, and it also makes me think about how difficult it can be for a mother to face a reality like the one Celine had to live through.
I invite you to watch the movie. I didn't want to give too many spoilers so you can watch it and tell me what you thought. I loved it. I thought it was going to be more of a family movie, but it totally shocked me. I would have preferred a different ending, since I don't like sad endings. Of course, it wasn't a sad ending for Celine, but I think it was for the other characters.
Hello everyone, great community of film fans, I hope you are well, today I want to talk about a film that went unnoticed, and that left me with mixed feelings... let me tell you, it was a roller coaster of emotions, from the beginning, the film grabs you and doesn't let go, imagine! They put Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain together in the same film, two super talented actresses... these two are goddesses, pure elegance and talent! From the moment the credits started I was there, glued to the screen, thinking: "Wow, something good is going to happen here!"... I knew that with these two on screen, the performances were going to be next level, and I confess that that was my greatest expectation... the story takes us to the time of the Cold War, in residential neighborhoods that seem perfect, two families living next door, everything nice, everything quiet, like a fairy tale... until night falls and things get murky. It starts out simple: two moms, best friends, inseparable, with children the same age, living the "American dream"... but you know how it is, "all that glitters is not gold," especially not in the movies... suddenly, boom! A tragedy changes everything, and then a drama begins that grips you and leaves you wondering: "What the heck is going on here?"
I have to admit that this mix of drama and psychological thriller really caught me, it had a constant tension, you know? One of those that reminds you of classic Hitchcock films, like a nod to the master of suspense... at times I felt like watching this movie was like putting together a mental puzzle, one of those that leaves you thinking... you start questioning everything the characters do, and the movie plays with you, as if the director wanted you to feel the weight of each decision, the secret everyone is keeping, and that feeling that nothing here is what it seems. Now, although the initial idea is super interesting, it doesn't end up being entirely convincing.
From the beginning, I completely bought into that vibe of life in the suburbs during the Cold War... the settings, the clothes, even the music, everything transports you back to that time... when life was supposed to be simpler, but in reality had its hidden complications. It’s weird how the movie makes you nostalgic for a time that, if you think about it, wasn’t that great. There’s a bittersweet flavor in the way they portray all of that, and I kept thinking about how complicated we humans are: we want perfection, but we always end up in chaos. As the movie progresses, the story starts to fall apart, but in an exaggerated way, really! At first, I liked how they built up the whole mystery and how they gave you clues to understand life in the suburbs, but then the plot started to go off on a tangent, to the point of being ridiculous. There were times when I was like: “Are they really going to go that way? No way!” As if the script had gotten too excited and overdone it, stretching the story until it seemed like one of those Sunday afternoon movies, to be honest, that did disappoint me a little.
¡No me digas!".
And speaking of disappointments, my people, let’s talk about the performances… let’s see, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain are the main reason why a lot of people are going to see this movie, that’s for sure! I have to say that at first, the chemistry between them is brutal, it grabs you from minute one… They both act so powerfully and a few minutes later, you believe everything they do, I swear! But… (there’s always a “but”, right?) as the movie gets closer to the end, I feel like their characters are going off on a tangent, they get too dramatic, they almost overact! At times I was thinking: “Oh no! Really?!” I felt like their incredible talent was trapped in a story that didn’t do them justice, a total shame…
I was left with a strange feeling, you know? English: On the one hand, you're watching these two amazing actresses giving their all in every scene... On the other hand, you realize that the story they were given wasn't the best, it fell flat on its face... The ending! Oh my God, the ending! After they've got you there, with all the tension and anticipation through the roof, the ending is like a bucket of cold water... An ending like that, all of a sudden, that doesn't give you the satisfaction you expect after so much, I don't know if I'm making myself clear... Without spoiling too much, I'll tell you that the ending felt rushed, as if it had been rushed through, and a bit disastrous, to be honest.
As if all the emotion the film tried to create went down the drain, leaving you with a feeling of "meh" and wondering: "And all this for what?".. I came away thinking that, despite the fact that the idea of the film was good and had intense moments, in the end it did not deliver what it promised at the beginning, I know I'm not the only one who thinks this, eh.. I've seen that the film has generated debate among people and critics. Some praise the acting at the beginning and the main idea, but others, like myself, criticize that they could not keep the pace and that they went downhill with an ending that seems to contradict everything they had built before. It's as if the film tried to be too many things at once: drama, psychological thriller, homage to Hitchcock... and in the end, by trying to cover so much, it didn't end up excelling in anything, what a shame!
But hey, not everything is bad, despite the fact that I aired its dirty laundry, there are things that I do appreciate about the film... the photography and how they put together the whole visual vibe, I thought it was incredible... they recreated the residential neighborhoods of the Cold War in such a detailed way, there's something kind of nostalgic, beautiful, you know? And that shows how a good image can touch your heart and make you feel like you're somewhere else... it's a lesson in how the environment and the atmosphere can lift a story, even if the plot isn't that great... so, what are we left with? On second thought, I'm going to give it a 6/10... it's a bittersweet experience. On one hand, you have Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain together again, an interesting idea at the beginning and a setting that blows your mind beautifully...
But on the other hand, the story gets flat, it gets too dramatic and the ending leaves you with more questions than answers. It's not one of those movies that will leave a lasting impression on you, that will stay with you forever, but it is one of those that makes you think and talk with your friends. In the end, if you like psychological dramas with a touch of mystery and you like the retro vibe, I would tell you to give it a chance. But if you're expecting a perfect story, flawless and with an ending that will leave you applauding, you'd better lower your expectations a little... Personally, I came away with mixed feelings: happy to see these two incredible actresses together on screen, but a little disappointed that the film tried to be too ambitious and didn't turn out as well as I had hoped... but hey, that's life... see you in the next reviews, take care! Bye!
Byebye!

›This is my review of Mothers' Instinct70@dinaaczib627d
It's been a while since I've seen a suspense and drama movie, it's not that I don't like them, but it's not my favorite genre. Every once in a while I like to reboot my mind and watch something different. “Mothers' Instinct” is a fairly new movie which is on several streaming platforms, it caught my attention because it features some very well known and talented actresses.
It stars leading actresses Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway, I know that many of us already know these beautiful faces and some of their film work, Jessica can remember her from movies like Interstellar, successful film, where she also shared with Anne, so it is not the first time that these great actresses meet.
My intention is to give you an opening of the film without telling you too much, because I would like everyone to see it and have their own opinion. What I can tell you beforehand is that it is one of those movies that can be somewhat predictable, the atmosphere of this one makes you feel that, I think it has also been because I have seen throughout my life many movies, so there is always a pattern in each of them that is repeated, although at the end if may have given me a little surprise.
Alice and Celine are two neighbor friends who share very similar lives, as they both share beautiful homes, good husbands and also have a son of the same age, so there are many things they can both get along very well. The movie is set in the 70's or 80's era, it reminds me a bit of the era of the “Love and Death” series.
Everything was apparently going well, but something tragic happened, Celine lost her little son falling from the balcony of her house, a total tragedy since he was her only son and she could not conceive more, from here we begin to see the decline of Celine, she begins to awaken a malevolent and calculating being. Alice is very affected by the unexpected death of her son's best friend and at the same time begins to notice certain behaviors of Celine that make her have a feeling that something is not quite right. This is how they start a series of very hard events and it is there where the beautiful relationship of friends is fractured, Celine and Alice no longer tolerate each other.
Mothers' Instinct - Official Trailer
As I mentioned before, I feel that the movie was a bit predictable, however, I can say that in the end it had a different outcome, in good part Celine was in a lot of pain of having lost the most important thing in her life.
It is not a film that will take your breath away, but I must say that there are very good performances and that it is one of those that you can watch and be entertained without getting bored, for me it has a score of 7/10.
Undoubtedly evil is near and can come from anyone, like the old saying faces we see hearts we don't know. It can be your friend, your neighbor and a person in pain can transform into the worst monster and take anyone as such to achieve their goals. Greetings DinaAczib, I hope you can see this movie very soon! Hugs!
[ENG]
Céline (Anne Hathaway) and Alice (Jessica Chastain) are mothers and good neighbors. Both share from time to time. In their houses, separated by several thorn bushes and roses, live the memories of an unbreakable family love. Both are excellent mothers; both are wonderful wives? Both would be capable of anything to protect their loved ones. But what about protecting or saving the loved one who does not belong to them? Would Alice be capable of giving everything for Céline's son or backwards?
Maybe the friendship between these women is nothing more than a lie, and behind the smiling faces and friendly greetings there is nothing but guilt, guilt and more guilt...
[ENG]
Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain are those actresses who, together, make your knees shake. There's a reason why they are my favorites and, in fact, one of the few whose names I can't forget. For this occasion, they will play two hardened mothers. A somewhat complex task for a thriller in which, everywhere you look, it shows how hard it is to be a mother who feels betrayed and, even worse, who has lost everything: who has lost an indispensable part of herself.
The feature film reminds me of mothers fighting in school over who is the best mom in the room. Imagine that instead of the classroom it's a child.... well, that's the way things go.
[ENG]
The heart of suspense centers on two things: suspicion and instinct. When something doesn't go right, alarm bells immediately go off. A mother is very analytical: she detects things that anyone else doesn't see. But, around doubt, lurks the skepticism of those who dare not see reality. Mother against mother, revenge and redemption, will be the opposing sides in a feature film that also reminds you that life puts you in tough and questionable dilemmas. I'll give it a try.
How indifferent can you be to these trials even as a mother?
Here is the ultimate tipping point. If you are a parent, you want the best for your children. Maybe there's a little love left over, and you want to give it to other people you care about. Maybe those people do the same with you: neighbors, relatives, friends... but when one of the parties is involved in a tragic event, which puts the other in the eye of the hurricane, that little love will disappear forever.
[ENG]
The incident that marks Céline and Alice will lead them to doubt each other. It will lead them to hate each other, to wish each other dead. Friendship, then, fades away. The only living bond is death, as contradictory as it may sound. Certain characteristics of the film will make you doubt the mental stability of both of them. Motherhood makes a woman fierce; when a lioness defends her children, she is capable of giving her life for them... and she is also capable of taking lives.
Anne Hathaway tries to play a villain, and I say “tries” because more than a villain I saw her as a mother who suffers, who suffers from the worst that can happen to someone she loves from the gut. Jessica Chastain is a rave, or rather, she knows how to make us rave. Both actresses are splendid: I loved every bit of their performance. In fact, it was because of these that I was encouraged to see the film.
[ENG]
Mothers' Instinct is a film that will take you into the delusional mind of a mother who only wants revenge, forcing her friend to step into her shoes and feel her suffering first hand. This feature film takes you to discover the dark instincts of one human being against another who, ironically, only wanted to avoid the misfortune that ended up happening anyway. This journey into madness is available on Prime Video and is definitely a film worth watching and playing.
Seeing star actresses, Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway, on the poster of this recent release Mothers’ Instinct (2024) was like a treat for my weekend. The title piqued my interest and the film is a psychological thriller to boot. I couldn't think of a better way to unwind for the weekend.
Set in 1960s, this American psychological thriller focuses on two families living next door to each other on a suburban neighbourhood. They are close and literally have keys to each other's house. Alice (played by Jessica Chastain) and Celine (played by Anne Hathaway) are mothers to boys of almost the same age and attending the same school. Their relationship is going great when tragedy struck.
Celine's son, Max, stays home due to illness. While Alice is tending her garden outside, she notices Max on the balcony trying to fix the bird house. She tells him to get down and runs inside their house to warn Celine. When the mothers run back to the balcony, Max had slipped and his head was bleeding. This tragedy breaks their harmonious relationship.
_______
Celine starts to behave weirdly, placing Alice on anxiety and fear as to the safety of her son, Theo. What is Celine really up to? Is Alice mentally unstable and seeing things that are not real?
Review
I've followed Anne Hathaway's acting career right from the beginning I think and in recent years, she's diverted from performing in romcoms to psychological thrillers. I think this is where her acting strength lies though I still prefer to see her in romance films. As expected, she and Jessica Chastain showed the stuff they are made of in this spooky and suspenseful film.
The plot is a great one though a remake of a Belgian film of same name based on the adaptation of Barbara Abel's novel titled Derrière La Haine. French film director, Benoît Delhomme, launches us into an outstanding show of every parents’ worst nightmare—the death of their child by negligence—and how the mothers navigate it, one gaslighting the other until she breaks.
The storytelling is even-paced and well executed. There are twists and turns, and creepy moments in this film that kept me hooked to the end. The sequence of events are set out in a manner that grips hearts with tension and suspense as expected in a psychological thriller.
I enjoyed the star leads' performance, especially Jessica Chastain. Her character is sometimes uptight and fearful due to her anxiety but flawless in her role as a mother with a past mental issue. This reflects in her style of parenting—she’s strict with her son, Theo. Her past almost conceals the truth but she trusts her instinct and sees through all the drama. Every gasp, scream and facial reactions are well done and timely as one would expect of a mother in reality.
Anne Hathaway as the more fun and indulgent mother did great as well but the focus was more on Chastain, the director's way of pulling the wool over the eyes of the audience so we don't see what's coming. It was great to see Josh Charles in action as Anne Hathaway's husband though he didn't get much screen time. I missed his acting ever since he was killed off the legal series, The Good Wife. I feel his role wasn't fully explored. The boys, Max and Theo, were also impressive in their roles though Theo was very annoying. I think that means he did a good job.
Two aspects of this film that stands out are the settings and visuals. The set design vividly captures the 1960s era, displaying the suburban middle class world, fashion and lifestyle (did they really smoke a lot in that time?) I enjoy how this set brings the film to life, like the audience is living in that time. I'm glad most of the scenes are shot in day time, allowing for clear and colourful visuals. The night scenes are a little dark yet clear enough to see.
Overall, Mothers’ Instinct is a film worth watching. The acting is brilliant and the storytelling is compelling. The ending is shocking and twisted, quite different from how I expected or wanted it to end. If you enjoy psychodramas, you'll love this one. I'll give it 4 stars out of 5.
