One of the series I have been planning to watch in the past few weeks was Night Sky and I finally did. I thought it was a neat scifi story since the first time I read what it was all about, and after watching it, I have to say it fulfilled my expectations.
I wasn't expecting a scifi story full of action, but rather a slow paced one. However, the first couple of episodes were a bit disconcerting to me because I wasn't expecting as much drama and I even started to think this show had more drama than actual scifi. Luckily, things improve a lot in later episodes and the final of the series has a good climax.
The series is about an old couple that had a hidden room in backyard which somehow is able to take them to another planet! No explanations are given regarding how this is possible, and not even them know how the machine works and how was it built. They just happen to found it.
There are a lot of mysteries as the series advances and some of them get answered but not all of them. Sadly, the series is already cancelled and no season 2 is going to be produced by Amazon. I thought the series had potential to continue with at least one more season, and I believe the writers were also planning in having more time to properly develop this story.
All in all, I found it an enjoyable viewing and a recommendable series.
Una de las series que tenía planeado ver en las últimas semanas era Night Sky y finalmente la pude ver. Pensé que era una buena historia de ciencia ficción desde la primera vez que leí de qué se trataba, y después de verla, debo decir que cumplió mis expectativas.
No esperaba una historia de ciencia ficción llena de acción, sino más bien una de ritmo lento. Sin embargo, los primeros episodios me desconcertaron un poco porque no esperaba tanto drama e incluso comencé a pensar que este programa tenía más drama que ciencia ficción. Por suerte, las cosas mejoran mucho en episodios posteriores y el final de la serie tiene un buen clímax.
La serie trata sobre una pareja de ancianos que tiene una habitación oculta en el patio trasero que de alguna manera puede llevarlos a otro planeta. No se dan explicaciones sobre cómo es esto posible, y ni siquiera ellos saben cómo funciona la máquina y cómo fue construida. Simplemente la encontraron y ya.
Hay muchos misterios a medida que avanza la serie y algunos de ellos se responden, pero no todos. Lamentablemente, la serie ya está cancelada y Amazon no producirá la temporada 2. Pensé que la serie tenía potencial para continuar con al menos una temporada más, y creo que los escritores también planeaban tener más tiempo para desarrollar adecuadamente esta historia.
En definitiva, me ha parecido una historia disfrutable y una serie recomendable.

Vengo de ver Outer Range, perteneciente a esta misma casa, para terminar viendo una serie que quizás sea mejor que la protagonizada por Josh Brolin. La verdad yo no sabía que esperar de este drama de ciencia ficción pero cuando vi los dos actores protagonistas es que no me quedó ninguna duda de comenzarla a ver, les estoy hablando de Sissy Spacek y J.K. Simmons, dos eminencias del cine y ganadores de premios Oscar; no había manera que por lo menos el nivel de actuación que veríamos fuera malo y amigos, no lo fue. Aquí verán a dos grandes actores hacerlo de manera brillante al punto de que te llegan cautivar de tal forma que sus sentimientos los llegas a hacer tuyos.
I just came from watching Outer Range, which belongs to the same house, to end up watching a series that may be better than the one starring Josh Brolin. The truth is that I didn't know what to expect from this sci-fi drama but when I saw the two main actors I had no doubt to start watching it, I'm talking about Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons, two eminences of cinema and Oscar winners; there was no way that at least the level of acting we would see would be bad and friends, it was not. Here you will see two great actors perform brilliantly to the point that you become so captivated by their feelings that you come to make them your own.
Me está sorprendiendo mucho la calidad del contenido que nos está ofreciendo Amazon Prime, desde siempre nos han dado buenas series pero pareciera que últimamente han puesto el pie en el acelerador cosa que me alegra porque le da a este mundo más competitividad y obliga a las otras plataformas a hacer cosas cada vez mejores. Según yo HBO sigue mandando en cuanto a calidad, seguido muy de cerca por Amazon y la misma Apple Tv. Netflix siempre será la que prefiera cantidad sobre calidad, con sus excepciones y Hulu con un par de buenas series no llega todavía al nivel de estas. Pero bueno, a lo que vinimos, Night Sky es una muy buena y curiosa historia de ciencia ficción que involucra viajes a través de portales, planetas perdidos, sociedades secretas y por supuesto dramas familiares, como ya viene siendo costumbre. Veamos entonces de que va esta nueva historia...
I am very surprised by the quality of the content that Amazon Prime is offering us, they have always given us good series but it seems that lately they have put their foot on the accelerator which makes me happy because it gives this world more competitiveness and forces the other platforms to do better and better things. According to me HBO still rules in terms of quality, followed closely by Amazon and Apple TV itself. Netflix will always be the one that prefers quantity over quality, with its exceptions and Hulu with a couple of good series does not yet reach the level of these. But well, what we came to, Night Sky is a very good and curious science fiction story involving travel through portals, lost planets, secret societies and of course family dramas, as has become customary. So let's see what this new story is all about...
Esta es la historia del matrimonio de los York, Franklin e Irene (J.K. Simmons, Sissy Spacek) quienes viven una vida bastante tranquila alejados de las grandes ciudades en un pueblo un poco pequeño y calmado, tal y como es su vida. Desde que son familia los York han tenido varias penas que han marcado un poco su forma de actuar y de ser pero es que también influye el gran secreto que guardan en su patio trasero, uno que llevan años ocultándoselo a todo el mundo. Resulta que enterrado en lo más profundo de su jardín existe una "nave" o "cámara secreta" como se quiera llamar que de manera inexplicable los teletransporta a un planeta solitario, raro y desierto.
This is the story of the York couple, Franklin and Irene (J.K. Simmons, Sissy Spacek) who live a fairly quiet life away from the big cities in a small and calm town, as is their life. Since they are family the Yorks have had several sorrows that have marked a little their way of acting and being but it is also influenced by the big secret they keep in their backyard, one that they have been hiding it from everyone for years. It turns out that buried deep in their garden there is a "ship" or "secret chamber" whatever you want to call it that inexplicably teleports them to a lonely, strange and deserted planet.
Al principio no hay problemas porque ellos ya se acostumbraron a este hecho al punto que forma parte de sus rutina diaria hacer un viaje hasta allá pero de repente todo cambia gracias a un acontecimiento que pone el día a día de los York en otro plano y situación. Resulta que de manera repentina aparece un extraño joven, muy misterioso y claramente con muchos secretos guardados, en la vida de este par de abuelos (porque son abuelos) y todo comienza a ser un poco cuesta arriba para ellos porque no están acostumbrados a lidiar con este tipo de cosas. Al tiempo también se dan cuenta que esa "cámara" oculta muchas más cosas de las que se imaginan lo que a la larga traerá más dificultades para ellos.
At first there are no problems because they are already used to this fact to the point that it is part of their daily routine to make a trip there but suddenly everything changes thanks to an event that puts the York's day to day life in another plane and situation. It turns out that suddenly a strange young man, very mysterious and clearly with many secrets kept, appears in the life of this pair of grandparents (because they are grandparents) and everything starts to be a little uphill for them because they are not used to deal with this kind of things. In time they also realize that this "camera" hides many more things than they imagine, which in the long run will bring more difficulties for them.
Hay muchos pero muchos más detalles que prefiero que los descubran a medida que van viendo la serie para que se sorprendan y lleguen al punto de no entender nada de lo que está pasando tal y como me pasó a mi. La verdad es que la trama atrapa mucho, es muy enigmática porque siempre está pasando algo pero no deduces muy bien que es, puede que esté ocurriendo una conversación pero hay otras cosas sucediendo y piensas en ellas y es así como vas posiblemente armando este rompecabezas. También te atrapa porque hay una carga emocional importante y eso es gracias al contexto familiar de los York, es parte del drama, y lógicamente la parte de ficción que no deja de ser curiosa y rara.
There are many, many more details that I prefer you to discover as you watch the series so that you are surprised and get to the point of not understanding anything of what is happening as it happened to me. The truth is that the plot traps a lot, it is very enigmatic because something is always happening but you do not deduce very well what it is, there may be a conversation going on but there are other things happening and you think about them and that's how you go possibly putting together this puzzle. It also grabs you because there is an important emotional charge and that is thanks to the family context of the Yorks, it is part of the drama, and logically the fiction part that is curious and weird.
Pero es que detrás de todo eso y para que esas historias anden como deben hay más cosas, hay tragedias familiares y una sociedad secreta que tal parece mueve más hilos de los que uno como espectador pudiera pensar, no les digo más. No es una serie con grandes escenas de acción ni mucha pomposidad porque todo se centra en las relaciones que la misma trama va juntando y en este caso es más que suficiente porque nos dan todo lo que necesitamos. Un vecino entrometido, una familia al otro lado del mundo y el joven misterioso serán las piezas para que todo el entramado cobre vida y logren entender esta gran historia.
But behind all that and for these stories to go as they should there are more things, there are family tragedies and a secret society that seems to pull more strings than one as a viewer might think, I say no more. It is not a series with big action scenes or a lot of pomposity because everything is focused on the relationships that the plot itself brings together and in this case it is more than enough because we get everything we need. A nosy neighbor, a family on the other side of the world and the mysterious young man will be the pieces for the whole framework to come to life and to understand this great story.
El gran valor agregado de esta serie para mi sin dudas son sus personajes, pero por qué? - pues porque en muy poco tiempo te das cuentas que TODOS tienen secretos, todos parecen que esconden algo desde lo más grande hasta lo más mínimo y es esa intriga por querer descubrir esos detalles lo que hace que la serie se mantenga en constante movimiento, que no te aburra, que nunca pierdas el interés, el saber que hay algo allí que no te termina de cuadrar. Y con base a los personajes también están las relaciones entre ellos, es muy interesante el viaje que vemos en ellas porque varían mucho, para bien o para mal, algunas maduran otras no tanto por lo que las acciones frente a esos cambios son las que al final guían un poco también el curso de la historia.
The great added value of this series for me is undoubtedly its characters, but why? - Because in a very short time you realize that they ALL have secrets, they all seem to hide something from the biggest to the smallest and it is that intrigue for wanting to discover those details that keeps the series in constant movement, that never bores you, that you never lose interest, knowing that there is something there that doesn't quite fit. And based on the characters there are also the relationships between them, it is very interesting the journey we see in them because they vary a lot, for better or worse, some mature others not so much so that the actions against these changes are those that ultimately guide a little also the course of the story.
Ya hablando enteramente de los personajes tenemos a la que para mi se lleva el show, Sissy Spacek, que increíble forma de actuar la de esta actriz. Tiene un personaje bastante sentido y con una carga emocional muy grande sobre sus hombros y eso lo refleja de una manera muy convincente en pantalla, por momentos puede ser muy vulnerable pero en otros puede ser la mujer más aguerrida y sin miedo del mundo; esa dualidad en su personalidad es lo que hace que esta historia por momentos sea una montaña rusa. Irene es sensible, cariñosa y paciente pero cuando tiene que dar el paso importante no duda y lo hace. Gran personaje de Spacek.
Talking entirely about the characters we have the one who for me takes the show, Sissy Spacek, what an incredible way of acting this actress has. She has a very meaningful character with a very big emotional burden on her shoulders and that reflects it in a very convincing way on screen, at times she can be very vulnerable but at other times she can be the most fearless and fearless woman in the world; that duality in her personality is what makes this story a roller coaster at times. Irene is sensitive, loving and patient but when she has to take the important step she doesn't hesitate and does it. Great character of Spacek.
Y por el otro lado tenemos a Franklin, quien es la roca de la relación. Él es igual que ella en el sentido de ser preocupado, del estar pendiente de ella pero siempre con una pizca de desconfianza ante las posibles cosas que le puedan hacer daño a su esposa, siempre está un paso por delante. Pero es que también es sumamente terco y ese choque entre los dos motivado por eso hace que la relación sea más real y que al final empatices más con ella. No hay que olvidar que el secreto que tienen ambos guardado, quieran o no, desgasta tanto física cómo mentalmente y eso lo vemos claramente reflejado a lo largo de la serie.
And on the other side we have Franklin, who is the rock of the relationship. He is just like her in the sense of being concerned, of being attentive to her but always with a hint of distrust before the possible things that could hurt his wife, he is always one step ahead. But he is also extremely stubborn and that clash between the two motivated by that makes the relationship more real and in the end you empathize more with her. We must not forget that the secret they both have kept, whether they want to or not, wears both physically and mentally and we see that clearly reflected throughout the series.
Hay personajes secundarios, Jude (Chai Romruen) y una madre con su hija los cuales marcarán un poco también el ritmo de la trama. Los tres son importantes, a su manera, pero no quiero dar muchos detalles ni pistas sobre ellos; pero si, serán piedras angulares en esta historia. En general el casting fue muy bueno, puede que no conozcas a la gran mayoría de actores pero hay que decir que hacen un muy buen trabajo, convincentes todos y guiados por las dos estrellas del cine de las que les hablé anteriormente.
There are secondary characters, Jude (Chai Romruen) and a mother and daughter who will also set the pace of the plot. All three are important, in their own way, but I don't want to give too many details or clues about them; but yes, they will be cornerstones in this story. In general the casting was very good, you may not know the vast majority of actors but it must be said that they do a very good job, all convincing and guided by the two movie stars of which I spoke earlier.
En conclusión tenemos a una serie muy buena en donde veremos la ciencia ficción contada desde un punto de vista un poco menos comercial de lo que estamos acostumbrados a verla. Yo pensaría que tendremos una segunda temporada ya que su final fue uno sumamente abierto y con muchos cabos sueltos, hay cosas que no quedaron del todo claras. Eso motiva porque existe la posibilidad de seguir disfrutando de una extraordinaria serie. Buen drama, buenas actuaciones, hay suspenso, intriga, todos ingredientes para que nunca se te pase por la cabeza dejar de verla.
In conclusion we have a very good series where we will see science fiction told from a point of view a little less commercial than we are used to seeing it. I would think that we will have a second season since its ending was an extremely open one and with many loose ends, there are things that were not entirely clear. That motivates because there is the possibility of continuing to enjoy an extraordinary series. Good drama, good performances, there is suspense, intrigue, all ingredients to make you never stop watching it.
Le doy un solido 9/10 porque es de esas series de las que NADIE está hablando y que no entiendes el por qué. Nunca pensé encontrarme con lo que vi cuando comencé con el primer capitulo y el nivel de sorpresa fue grande pero una sorpresa siempre para bien, la verdad me gustó mucho. La pueden encontrar en Amazon Prime, eso ya lo saben, y consta de 8 capítulos de unos 50-55 minutos cada uno. Les dejo el tráiler y así la echan un ojo.
I give it a solid 9/10 because it is one of those series that NOBODY is talking about and you don't understand why. I never thought I would find what I saw when I started with the first chapter and the level of surprise was great but a surprise always for the better, I really liked it a lot. You can find it on Amazon Prime, you already know that, and it consists of 8 chapters of about 50-55 minutes each. I leave you the trailer so you can take a look at it.

Synopsis :
Un couple de retraités cache, dans le sous-sol de leur cabane de jardin, un accès mystérieux à une pièce avec un panorama magnifique, de type extra-terrestre. Ils ont décidé de garder ce secret pour eux deux et vont régulièrement passer quelques moments, en fin de soirée, à contempler cette vue extraordinaire.
Dans cette pièce, il y a une porte qui donne accès à l'extérieur, mais ne sachant pas si l'air extérieur est respirable, ils n'ont pas encore osé ouvrir la porte, sans s'équiper d'une combinaison et d'une bonbonne d'oxygène.
Irène (Sissy Spacek) ayant une santé déclinante, décide un soir, de laisser une lettre à Franklin (JK Simmons), car elle n'en peut plus d'attendre. Elle se rend dans cette pièce et juste avant qu'elle ne passe la porte (sans scaphandre ou autre), elle voit un jeune homme couché sur le sol, avec un peu de sang sur lui. Elle ramènera Jude (Chai Hansen) pour le soigner, en attendant qu'il puisse éventuellement leur donner quelques explications.
Mon avis :
Je pense que le format film aurait mieux convenu à cette série. C'est, en effet, très lent.
En fin de saison, la porte est laissée grande ouverte pour une suite, surtout qu'il y a plein de questions restées sans réponse.
Une saison 2 serait envisagée, mais n'est pas encore confirmée.
Ils ont peut-être voulu faire trop de mystères dans tous les sens aussi, et on finit par s'y perdre, on a peu de repères auxquels s'accrocher, en dehors de ce joli vieux couple.
Le gros point positif de cette série, c'est le couple que forment Sissy Spacek et JK Simmons à l'écran. Ils nous ont fourni de très belles prestations d'acteurs. Ils ont tous deux une filmographie déjà bien remplie, mais je trouve qu'on ne les voit pas encore assez, surtout Sissy Spacek (déjà 72 ans). JK Simmons a, lui, 67 ans.
Le rôle le + connu de Sissy Spacek est celui de Carrie au Bal du Diable, adapté du 1er livre de Stephen King.

Chai Hansen est un jeune (33 ans) acteur australo-thaïlandais, qu'on avait donc vu dans la série Shadowhunters.
Je ne peux pas dire que c'est une bonne série, puisqu'elle aborde plusieurs sujets, sans toutefois les approfondir .. une chose qu'on a bien vu, c'est le temps qui passe, et c'était apparemment voulu, donc ça, c'est réussi ! Les jeux d'acteurs des personnages principaux sont très bons, comme je vous l'ai dit. Mais ça manque clairement de détails et d'explications.
Chaque épisode fait à peu près 1 heure. A vous de voir, si vous souhaitez lui donner une chance de vous plaire.
Je me suis dit que les photos des acteurs principaux seraient + parlants que les explications, en sus de mettre un peu de couleurs et de décorations parmi les différentes parties de texte.
Je ne sais pas encore ce qu'on va regarder ce soir, ce sera donc une surprise pour tout le monde.
