   ¡Hola comunidad amante del cine! Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes la serie que más me ha gustado de todas las que he visto hasta entonces. Es que posee tantos detalles de mi cultura latinoamericana que es como ver una historia conocida. Amo los paisajes, la gente, las supersticiones y la característica de lucha que siempre nos he identificado.

   Hello movie-loving community! Today I want to share with you the series that I liked the most of all the ones I have seen so far. It has so many details of my Latin American culture that it's like watching a familiar history. I love the landscapes, the people, the superstitions and the characteristic of struggle that I have always identified us with.

   Esta serie está basada en el libro de Gabriel García Márquez, titulado con el mismo nombre. Una obra maestra que tuve la oportunidad de leer hace unos cuantos años y que he releído bastantes veces de las que puedo contar. Por ese motivo, cuando escuché que iba a realizarse una serie basada en él, no me atrajo mucho, ya que no tenía muchas esperanzas de que fuera fiel al libro. Sin embargo, me sorprendió totalmente, si bien algunos acontecimientos están algo “suavizados” el resultado fue bastante bueno. Para quien no la visto dejo un resumen:

   This series is based on the book by Gabriel García Márquez, titled with the same name. A masterpiece that I had the opportunity to read a few years ago and that I have reread more times than I can count. For that reason, when I heard that a series based on it was going to be made, I wasn't very attracted to it, as I didn't have much hope that it would be faithful to the book. La pareja, primos hermanos, se casan en contra de la voluntad de sus padres. Luego de un trágico suceso, dejan atrás su familia y emprenden una larga travesía en busca de un nuevo hogar, acompañados por jóvenes parejas de amigos y aventureros. A las orillas de un río de piedras prehistóricas fundan un pueblo llamado “Macondo”. Allí la historia relatará como varias generaciones de la estirpe de los Buendía marcarán el devenir de Macondo, atormentados por el miedo a una terrible maldición que los condena a cien años de soledad.

   The series follows the history of a couple, José Arcadio Buendía (Marco Antonio González Ospina) and Úrsula Iguarán (Susana Morales Cañas), and their descendants through generations until their extinction. The couple, first cousins, marry against their parents' wishes. After a tragic event, they leave their family behind and embark on a long journey in search of a new home, accompanied by young couples of friends and adventurers. On the banks of a river of prehistoric stones they found a town called “Macondo”. There, the history will tell how several generations of the Buendía lineage will mark the future of Macondo, tormented by the fear of a terrible curse that condemns them to a hundred years of solitude.

   Como les decía anteriormente, la serie colmó todas mis expectativas y eso que mis expectativas eran bien altas. Me parece un relato fiel de este fantástico libro que ha sido considerado como una obra maestra. Como crítica, tengo que añadir que algunos hechos han sido levemente “suavizados” debido a su controversia. Por lo que rescato la valentía de no haberlos ignorado y el cuidado que han puesto en ciertos temas. Hay un tratamiento adecuado de lo que se muestra y lo que se dice, nada resulta chillón ni vulgar. Todo está impecablemente cuidado.

   As I said before, the series fulfilled all my expectations and my expectations were very high. It seems to me a faithful account of this fantastic book that has been considered a masterpiece. As a criticism, I have to add that some facts have been slightly “softened” due to its controversy. I appreciate the courage of not having ignored them and the care that has been taken in certain topics. There is an adequate treatment of what is shown and what is said, nothing is garish or vulgar. Everything is impeccably cared for.

   Las imágenes y el sonido, le dan a cada ambiente vida propia y las actuaciones me parecieron fenomenales. Los colores son hermosos también. El conjunto es muy fiele a la época, la cultura y ese toque de magia que no choca sino que se integra a la perfección en los acontecimientos. Una serie muy bien lograda.

   The images and sound give each environment a life of its own and I thought the performances were phenomenal. The colors are beautiful as well. The set is very faithful to the period, the culture and that touch of magic that does not clash but integrates perfectly with the events. A very well done series.

   Me hubiera gustado que se diera más profundidad a algunos personajes, como Melquíades, pero entiendo que el tiempo es corto. Los personajes de Úrsula y José Arcadio están muy bien logrados, también me agradó el del coronel Aureliano Buendía y esa perpetua rivalidad entre Amaranta y Rebeca fue como me la había imaginado. El personaje que más me gustó fue Úrsula, la matriarca de la familia, sus sentimientos, sus miedos y sus esperanzas, están magistralmente mostrados en la serie.

   I would have liked more depth to some characters, such as Melquíades, but I understand that time is short. The characters of Úrsula and José Arcadio are very well done, I also liked the character of Colonel Aureliano Buendía and the perpetual rivalry between Amaranta and Rebeca was as I had imagined it. The character I liked the most was Ursula, the matriarch of the family, her feelings, her fears and her hopes, are masterfully shown in the series.

   Para concluir, esta serie ha demostrado que el cine puede mostrar fielmente a una obra maestra de la literatura. ¡Un aplauso a los creadores! Dejame tu opinión y, si no la has visto, te la recomiendo.

   100 años de soledad para hacer un pequeño resumen es una obra maestra literaria de latinoamérica escrita por el galardonado escritor Gabriel García Márquez en lo personal es una novela que leí cuando era adolescente y me atrapó muchísimo por su historia maravillosa y cómo nos puede ubicar en tiempo y emocionalmente una historia que puede perdurar para toda la vida. Por fin vio la luz esta actuación del libro en Netflix.

   100 years of solitude to make a small summary is a literary masterpiece of Latin America written by the award-winning writer Gabriel García Márquez personally is a novel that I read when I was a teenager and I caught a lot for his wonderful story and how we can place in time and emotionally a story that can last a lifetime. Finally this performance of the book was released on Netflix.

   Primero que nada quiero decir que la adaptación vale totalmente la pena verla es maravillosa si el libro el libro de por sí es excelente esta adaptación es bastante fiel a la historia evidentemente tiene ligeros cambios más sin embargo no son cambios abruptos y los mismos bajo mi perspectiva más bien nutre en la historia. Me parece increíble como supieron llevar muchas cosas del realismo mágico que se ven en el libro a la realidad y es maravilloso poder ver en pantalla en live action tantas cosas que uno se imagina al leer la historia.

   First of all I want to say that the adaptation is totally worth watching it is wonderful if the book itself is excellent this adaptation is quite faithful to the story obviously has slight changes but however they are not abrupt changes and the same in my perspective rather nourishes the story. I find it incredible how they knew how to bring many things from the magical realism seen in the book to reality and it is wonderful to be able to see on screen in live action so many things that one imagines when reading the story.

   Lo único lamentable por ahora de esta historia es que es la primera parte de esta adaptación hay que esperar un tiempito para ver la segunda parte pero sí está a la altura o es mucho mejor que la primera estoy segura que va a ser algo espectacular. En fin si eres fanático de la literatura de Gabriel García Márquez has leído este libro O quieres ver una historia que trata las raíces de América latina y que toca puntos muy muy humanos que pueden trascender a lo largo y o en cualquier momento de la historia esta serie vale totalmente la pena es maravillosa.

   The only regrettable thing about this story for now is that it is the first part of this adaptation we have to wait a little while to see the second part but if it is up to par or is much better than the first I'm sure it will be something spectacular. Anyway if you are a fan of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's literature you have read this book OR you want to see a story that deals with the roots of Latin America and that touches very very human points that can transcend throughout and or at any time in history this series is totally worth it is wonderful.

   Tenía 15 años cuando leí obligada 100 años de soledad. Sé que una gran parte de mi generación tuvo también este primer crudo encuentro con la literatura de la misma forma, era una lectura obligada en el colegio. En mi caso, yo ya era una niña lectora, pero para leer esta obra de la literatura latinoamericana necesitas haber vivido. A mí aún me faltaban años para empezar a vivir, para comprender lo que nos quería mostrar Gabriel García Márquez.

   I was 15 years old when I was forced to read 100 Years of Solitude. I know that a large part of my generation also had this first crude encounter with literature in the same way; it was required reading in school. In my case, I was already a child reader, but to read this work of Latin American literature you need to have lived. I was still years away from beginning to live, to understand what Gabriel García Márquez wanted to show us.

   

   

   

   Cada vez que pienso en esta obra, recuerdo la primera vez que la leí. Estaba de vacaciones de carnaval con mi familia. Ese año íbamos a acampar a las orillas de un río, en un pequeño caserío en el estado Bolívar, en dónde aún no llegaba ni siquiera la electricidad. Para cruzar a este sitio había que pasar un puente de madera o hacerlo en canoa, cualquiera de los dos era un riesgo. Recuerdo las tardes acostada leyendo en un Chinchorro en la ranchería de la casa de barro donde nos quedamos, mientras el humo de la cocina impregnaba el lugar, y lo único que se escuchaba en los alrededores eran los sonidos de la selva. No sabía que estaba marcando una experiencia de inmersión mientras leía como los Buendía cruzaban la ciénaga.

   Estos mismos sonidos que recordaba fueron los que emitieron en la producción de Netflix en el mismo pasaje. Me abrazaron y me produjeron un efecto de flashback que me remontaron a esas lecturas en las tardes, y a mi mamá en la cocina de mi casa, explicándome como la historia giraba en espiral, dos horas antes de ir a exponer en el colegio porque no había alcanzado a terminarlo antes de la fecha asignada.

   Every time I think of this play, I remember the first time I read it. I was on carnival vacation with my family. That year we were going to camp on the banks of a river, in a small village in the state of Bolivar, where not even electricity was available yet. To cross to this place you had to cross a wooden bridge or do it in a canoe, either way was a risk. I remember the afternoons lying down reading in a Chinchorro in the ranchera of the mud house where we stayed, while the smoke from the kitchen permeated the place. The only thing that could be heard in the surroundings were the sounds of the jungle. Little did I know that I was marking an immersive experience as I read how the Buendia's crossed the swamp.

   These same sounds I remembered were the ones they emitted in the Netflix production in the same passage. They embraced me and produced a flashback effect that took me back to those afternoon readings, and to my mom in the kitchen of my house, explaining to me how the story spiraled. Two hours before going to expose at school because I had not managed to finish it before the assigned date.

   

   

   Esto fue lo que logró esta producción de Netflix. No solo el hecho de recordar, sino de reconectar con esta parte latinoamericana que estaba arraigada pero olvidada en el fondo de mi memoria. Es recordar la historia de nuestros abuelos. Es reconocer a Úrsula Iguarán en alguien de nuestra familia. Habla de conocer de casos silenciosos y tormentosos que no se cuentan por «el que dirán". De espantos que aparecían con velas bajo los limoneros, llamándote a la desgracia. De tuqueques amarillos que señalaban el camino a entierros de vasijas llenas de oro. Era vivir el realismo mágico contado de primera mano.

   Entiendo el escepticismo que tienen muchos con esta producción. Yo misma, al ver masacrados muchos de mis libros favoritos en adaptaciones desastrosas, me encontré inmersa en el primer capítulo sin parpadear siquiera. Parte de este escepticismo, ocurre también por la conocida versión de García Márquez de que no quería ver su obra en una producción de cine, porque una película no iba a poder tomar toda la historia y mostrarla en 3 horas. Sin embargo, siempre estuvo de acuerdo en hacerla una serie. Pero había una serie de exigencias para que esto pudiera ocurrir.

   Llegó Netflix y aceptó las exigencias: todo el elenco debía ser colombiano, hubo muchas más, pero esta era la principal. Netflix no solo permitió las exigencias, sino que les dio un presupuesto ilimitado para realizarlo. Hicieron un casting abierto y se escogieron los actores. Debo aclarar que no todo el elenco es colombiano, pero esto lo hizo más jugoso. Porque el actor que interpretó a Pietro Crespi es italiano y el actor que interpretó a Melquiades, no solo es un español de Málaga, sino que también es gitano de nacimiento, lo que hizo que su personaje y su participación tuvieran aún más sentido.

   This is what this Netflix production achieved. Not only the fact of remembering, but of reconnecting with this Latin American part that was rooted but forgotten in the depths of my memory. It is remembering the history of our grandparents. It is to recognize Ursula Iguarán in someone in our family. Furthermore, it is to know about silent and stormy cases that are not told because of “what people will say”. Of ghosts that appeared with candles under the lemon trees, calling you to misfortune. Of yellow tuqueques that pointed the way to burials of pots full of gold. It was living magical realism told firsthand.

   I understand the skepticism that many have with this production. I myself, having seen many of my favourite books butchered in disastrous adaptations, found myself immersed in the first chapter without even blinking. Part of this skepticism is also due to Garcia Márquez's well-known statement that he did not want to see his work in a film production. He said that a movie would not be able to take the whole story and show it in 3 hours. However, he always agreed to make it into a series. But there were a number of demands for this to happen.

   Netflix came along and accepted the demands: the entire cast had to be Colombian, there were many more, but this was the main one. Netflix not only allowed the demands, but gave them an unlimited budget to make it. They did an open casting and the actors were chosen. I should clarify that not all the cast is Colombian, but this made it juicier. Because the actor who played Pietro Crespi is Italian and the actor who played Melquiades is not only a Spaniard from Malaga, but also a gypsy by birth, which made his character and his participation even more meaningful.

   

   

   Ver la historia cobrar vida, que los personajes que vivían en nuestras memorias los interpreten actores de carne y hueso, es una experiencia que no creía que ocurrirían. Que hayan hecho las diferentes épocas de Macondo a escala real, detallado sus casas. Que la casa de los Buendía tenga puertas y ventanas. La producción artística se la jugó toda, así como también las mezclas de sonido, la fotografía y la banda sonora. No tiene nada que envidiar a muchas producciones de Hollywood, de hecho, me atrevo a decir, sin temor a equivocarme, que supera a más de la media, y podría situarla en el tope junto a muchas otras que se han ganado su lugar en la historia de shows de televisión.

   La serie en sí es lenta, es densa, se debe ver con calma, pero esto no la hace poco digerible. Todo lo contrario, te quedas detallando cada rincón de cada escena. Si te has leído el libro, sabes que hasta la casa misma es un personaje más. Está relatada por un narrador con voz en off, que termina de aportar lo que las imágenes y los actores no iban a poder lograr. Así como tampoco, podrían poner en físico la belleza de las palabras que escribió Gabo en la novela.

   To see history come to life, to see the characters that lived in our memories interpreted by flesh and blood actors, is an experience I never thought would happen. That they have made the different eras of Macondo on a real scale, with their houses in detail. That the Buendía's house has doors and windows. The artistic production played it all out, as well as the sound mixes, the photography and the soundtrack. It has nothing to envy to many Hollywood productions, in fact, I dare to say, without fear of being wrong, that it surpasses more than the average. And I could place it at the top with many others that have earned their place in the history of television shows.

   The series itself is slow, it is dense, it should be watched slowly, but this does not make it not digestible. Quite the contrary, you are left detailing every nook and cranny of every scene. If you have read the book, you know that even the house itself is a character. It's narrated by a voice-over narrator, who ends up providing what the images and the actors couldn't achieve. Nor would they be able to put into physical form the beauty of the words Gabo wrote in the novel.

   

   

   Lo que termina de completar la extraordinaria producción y la lleva a niveles superiores, son las actuaciones magistrales de varios de los actores. Y aunque sabemos que el árbol genealógico de los Buendía es bien enrevesado, no los voy a mencionar a todos. Solo a los más resaltantes. Empezando por la actuación sobresaliente de Marleyda Soto, quien encarnó a Úrsula Iguarán de una manera tan sólida, que hubo escenas que me pusieron la piel de gallina. Ella, al igual que en el libro, es el pilar de la novela.

   También quiero resaltar el papel de Arcadio, interpretado por Janer Villareal. Dio vida a uno de los personajes más odiosos y olvidables de todo el libro, pero que en esta producción no pasaría nunca. Así como también la maravillosa actuación de Diego Vázquez, quien hizo de José Arcadio Buendía, y que ya no puedo imaginarme a otra persona buscando la presencia de Dios con su daguerrotipo por todo Macondo.

   What completes the extraordinary production and takes it to higher levels are the masterful performances of several of the actors. And although we know that the Buendía family tree is quite convoluted, I am not going to mention them all. Just the most outstanding ones. Starting with the outstanding performance of Marleyda Soto, who played Ursula Iguarán in such a solid way that there were scenes that gave me goose bumps. She, as in the book, is the pillar of the novel.

   I also want to highlight the role of Arcadio, played by Janer Villareal. He gave life to one of the most hateful and forgettable characters in the whole book, but that in this production would never happen. As well as the wonderful performance of Diego Vázquez, who played José Arcadio Buendía, and I can no longer imagine another person looking for the presence of God with his daguerreotype all over Macondo.

   

   

   No podemos dejar de lado a Claudio Cataño, el Coronel Aureliano Buendía. El personaje que se nos quedaría tatuado en la memoria a lo largo de nuestra existencia. Este actor tomó el personaje y lo hizo parte de él, con una sublime actuación por su parte.

   Aún quedan más actores que hicieron un trabajo impresionante, pero estos fueron los que se robaron mi corazón. Y aún quedan más por ver. Esta producción es una miniserie que consta de dos temporadas, apenas se estrenó la primera, hay que esperar al 2025 para ver la segunda parte.

   We cannot leave out Claudio Cataño, Colonel Aureliano Buendía. The character that would remain tattooed in our memory throughout our existence. This actor took the character and made him part of it, with a sublime performance on his part.

   There are still more actors who did an impressive job, but these were the ones who stole my heart. And there are still more to see. This production is a miniseries that consists of two seasons, the first one just premiered, we have to wait until 2025 to see the second part.

   

   Respeto la decisión que tienen muchos de no ver la serie por el motivo que solo los venezolanos conocemos. En mi caso, separé la obra del artista y disfruté sin culpas de esta gran producción. Pero si esta no es la razón por la que estás escéptico de verla, entonces te recomiendo que le des la oportunidad, porque no tiene ningún tipo de desperdicio y es meramente digerible, de principio a fin.

   Espero que hayas disfrutado de esta reseña. La hice con la más profunda emoción por volver a conectar con los audiovisuales, y querer contar mi experiencia mientras la veía. Me pareció tan buena que estoy considerando volver a verla para buscar más detalles. Gracias a esta producción, quiero volver a leerme la obra después de 20 años.

   I respect the decision of many not to watch the series for the reason that only Venezuelans know. In my case, I separated the work from the artist and enjoyed this great production without guilt. But if this is not the reason you are skeptical to watch it, then I recommend you give it a chance, because it has no waste and is merely digestible, from beginning to end.

   I hope you enjoyed this review. I did it with the deepest emotion of reconnecting with audiovisuals, and wanting to tell my experience while watching it. Likewise, I thought it was so good that I am considering watching it again to look for more details. Thanks to this production, I want to read the play again after 20 years.
