   This is a biographical film about the Polish scientist Marie Curie, the first person to receive two Nobel Prizes in different specialties - Physics and Chemistry - and to be the first woman to hold the position of professor at the Sorbonne University in Paris.

   It is based on Lauren Redniss' graphic novel Radioactive: Marie & Pierre Curie: A Tale of Love and Fallout and was directed by Marjane Satrapi, an Iranian-born cartoonist, painter and cartoonist who won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival for the 2007 film Persepolis.

   The screenplay was written by Jack Thorne, who has a long career in the field and also wrote the multi-award winning screenplay for the film Wonder.

   The film shows personal and professional aspects of the scientist, highlighting her strong temperament and perseverance in carrying out her experiments, as well as her sentimental relationship with Piere Curie, who supported her at times when she was aimless,

   The scenes show the city of Paris in the early 1900s and the society of the time, as well as the path that led them both to the discovery of radium and polonium and their theory of radioactivity that is the beginning of the nuclear era, making short films about the use of that discovery in the future.

   The role of Marie is played by Rosamund Pike, who was nominated for an Oscar in 2015 for best actress for her role in the movie "Gone Girl", while Piere is played by Sam Riley, who in 2017 starred in the British mini-series named SS-GB.

   The movie was released in July 2020 getting positive reviews, although some think it falls short as the film's narrative is done in somewhat frugal terms.

   The gross of the same was in the order of $4 million.

   Personally I think it is a good choice to watch it in the end and it is inspiring.

   Madame Curie is one of the women I admire the most, because everything she accomplished not only as scientific but as a woman, as a child i always said that I wanted to be like her. This movie is a biopic of her life, directed by Marjane Satrapi and scripted by Jack Thorne. It starts right after when she moves from Poland to France to perceive her dream of studying. The movie is starred by Rosamund Pike, as Marie Curie. We have Sam Riley as Pierre Currie and Anja Taylor-Joy as Irene Curie, the daughter of both of them.

   Madame Curie es una de las mujeres que más admiro, porque todo lo que logró no sólo como científica sino como mujer, de niña siempre decía que quería ser como ella. Esta película es un biopic de su vida, dirigida por Marjane Satrapi y con guión de Jack Thorne. Comienza justo después de que ella se traslade de Polonia a Francia para percibir su sueño de estudiar. La película está protagonizada por Rosamund Pike, como Marie Curie. Tenemos a Sam Riley como Pierre Currie y a Anja Taylor-Joy como Irene Curie, la hija de ambos.

   What i did like about the movie: The interpretation of Rosamund Pike is outstanding, i think she nailed the personality Madame Curie's should have. A very strong, decided and perhaps a bit stubborn woman. Who struggled with the problems of being a woman who wanted to do something different back in the XX century, the script also emphasized in her love for her husband which i think was an accurate decision because it actually influenced her as a human and as a scientist. The film also show us flashbacks of her chilhood. Lastly, something very interesting and what i liked a lot from the film is that they also added scene of the bad things that were invented based on Madame Curies discoveries as the atomic bomb.

   Lo que sí me gustó de la película: La interpretación de Rosamund Pike es sobresaliente, creo dio en el clavó con la personalidad que debió tener Madame Curie. Una mujer muy fuerte, decidida y quizás un poco testaruda. Que luchó con los problemas de ser una mujer que quería hacer algo diferente en el siglo XX, el guión también hizo hincapié en su amor por su marido, lo que creo que fue una decisión acertada porque realmente influyó en ella como ser humano y como científico. La película también nos muestra flashbacks de su infancia. Por último, algo muy interesante y que me gustó mucho de la película es que también añadieron escenas de las cosas malas que se inventaron a partir de los descubrimientos de Madame Curie como la bomba atómica.

   

   

   What i didn't like: They add some weird gloomy filter to portrait Paris from the first decades of the XX century, and it just doesn't help the movie at all, it just make it dark. The movie also leads to some plots and substories that doesn't have any outcome or help its rhythm in any way.

   Lo que no me gustó: le añadieron un filtro nublado/gelido a las secuencias para retratar el París de las primeras décadas del siglo XX, y no ayuda para nada a la película, sólo la hace oscura. La película también da lugar a algunas tramas y sub-historias que no tienen ningún desenlace ni ayudan a su ritmo de ninguna manera.

   In conclusion, we get an amazing perfomance of Rosamund Pike very well deserved by Madame Curie but, the production of the movie leaves much to be desired. It's a movie worth to wacht tho, i think the story of such women as Madame Curie most be known by everyone, we have lots of things thanks to her scientific work.    En conclusión, tenemos una increíble actuación de Rosamund Pike muy bien merecida por Madame Curie pero, la producción de la película deja mucho que desear. Es una película que vale la pena ver, creo que la historia de mujeres como Madame Curie debe ser conocida por todos, tenemos muchas cosas gracias a su trabajo científico.    Hello friends of Hive, today I want to tell you about a film that was filmed in 2019 but was released in 2020, Radioactive, a film directed by Marjene Satrapi, who became famous for a graphic novel “Persepolis”, where she talks about the conditions of life in Iran. This director has been surprised by her masterful approach to the film based on memory and anticipation. The story begins when Marie finds the dead of her death. Her memories are selective evocations that her director makes of her experiences, both personal (her relationship with Pierre Curie) and scientific ones, are combined with inserts "in the future" of some uses of the radioactivity.

   Hola amigos de Hive, hoy quiero hablarles de una película que se filmó en 2019 pero fue estrenada en el 2020, Radioactivo, una película dirigida por Marjene Satrapi, quién se hiciera famosa por una novela gráfica “Persepolis”, donde habla sobre las condiciones de vida en Irán. Esta directora ha sorprendido por su magistral manea de enfocar la película a partir del recuerdo y de la anticipación. El relato comienza cuando Marie se encuentra a las muertas de su muerte. Sus recuerdos, son evocaciones selectivas que su directora hace de sus vivencias, tanto personales (la relación con Pierre Curie), como las científicas, se combinan con insertos “en el futuro” de algunas utilizaciones de la radioactividad.

   Rosamund Pike (Marie Curie), is its protagonist an actress who already has us accustomed to great interpretations, she shows us how the French nationalized Polish scientist Marie Curie managed to discover, together with her husband, Radium and Polonium, these radioactive elements have had an impact on the world.

   The film begins with a Maria Sklodowska who has just arrived in France and seeks her place on the path of science, but being a woman in a world of men, where women had no place for science at that time, they did not pay attention to her and she stayed without a laboratory to work in; her until she meets Pierre Curie (Sam Riley). The film shows their meeting and how love is born between them, you realize that it is not only a film that will only be about the scientist but about the woman, partner, mother. It speaks of the most human side of her, but also of the professional and scientific woman who won two Nobel prizes.

   Rosamund Pike (Marie Curie), es su protagonista una actriz que ya nos tiene acostumbrados a grandes interpretaciones, ella nos muestra cómo la científica polaca nacionalizada francesa Marie Curie logró descubrir, junto a su esposo, el Radio y el Polonio, estos elementos radioactivos han tenido un impacto en el mundo.

   La cinta inicia con una Maria Sklodowska que recién llega a Francia y busca su lugar en el camino de las ciencias, pero al ser mujer en un mundo hombres, donde las mujeres no tenían cabida para ciencia de aquella época no le prestaban atención y se queda sin un laboratorio en donde trabajar; hasta que conoce a Pierre Curie (Sam Riley). La película muestra su encuentro y como nace el amor entre ellos, te das cuenta que no solo es una película que solo habrá de la científica sino de la mujer, compañera, madre. Habla de su lado más humano, pero también de la mujer profesional y científica que gano dos premios Nobel.

   The screenplay written by Jack Thorne and is an adaptation of Lauren Redniss's graphic novel about the life of Marie and Pierre Curie. The film portrays a time when women had no rights, could not vote or drive. We can appreciate a Marie ahead of her time, intelligent and passionate. She never gave up on doing her scientific work and she strategically overcame all obstacles that came her way throughout her life.

   El guion escrito por Jack Thorne y es una adaptación de la novela grafica de Lauren Redniss sobre la vida de Marie y Pierre Curie. La cinta nos retrata una época donde las mujeres no tenían derechos, no podían votar o conducir. Podemos apreciar a una Marie adelantada a su época, inteligente y apasionada. Nunca se dio por vencida para realizar su trabajo científico y venció con estrategias todos los obstáculos que se le presentaron durante toda su vida.

   This film features emotional moments that transcend the familiar, when Pierre refuses to receive the Nobel Prize because the academy does not recognize Marie in the discovery. This film has a feminist undertone given by the director of the film, to inspire more women in science. We see how Marie is an example for her eldest daughter. Her daughter follows in her footsteps and devoted herself to physics and chemistry, also winning, together with her husband, a Nobel Prize in chemistry for her contributions to El Radio research.

   Esta película cuenta con momentos emotivos que trasciende lo familiar, cuando Pierre se niega a recibir el premio Nobel porque la academia no reconoce a Marie en el descubrimiento. Esta película tiene un trasfondo feminista que le da la directora de la película, para inspirar a más mujeres en las ciencias. Vemos como Marie es un ejemplo para su hija mayor. Su hija sigue sus pasos y se dedicó a la física y química, ganado también junto a su esposo un Nobel en química por sus aportes a la investigación del el Radio.

   I have always liked biographies, more in films than in books, I like to see the different audiovisual approaches to some story or author. It is for this reason that I dared to download a biographical film of one of the most recognized personalities in the world. On this occasion, we will talk about one of the little known aspects of the renowned scientist Madame Curie, her love story and her struggle to excel in a world dominated by men, but first, let's talk briefly about her.

   Siempre me han gustado las biografías, más en los filmes que en los libros, me gusta ver los diferentes enfoques audiovisuales de alguna historia o autor. Es por esa razón que me atreví a descargar una película biográfica de una de las personalidades más reconocidas del mundo. En esta ocasión, hablaremos de uno de los aspectos poco conocidos de la renombrada científica Madame Curie, su historia de amor y su lucha por sobresalir en un mundo dominado por hombres, pero primero, hablaremos brevemente de ella

   

   

   Born with the name of Maria Salomea Skłodowska in Warsaw, Poland, on November 7, 1867, the scientist always had an affinity for science since she was a child, since she had to work part-time from a very young age to pay for her studies, obtaining a Master's degree and later a doctorate in Physics and Mathematics. Her discoveries of Polonium and Radium earned her two Nobel Prizes, along with her husband Pierre Curie, who supported her at all times. Madame Curie, from prolonged exposure to radiation, died of leukemia on July 4, 1934 at the age of 66 in Passy, France.

   The story in the film begins in the year 1893, where we see a young Marie Skłodowska (Rosamund Pike) trying to fit into the academic world, but because she is a woman, many obstacles have been placed in her way. That same year she meets Pierre Curie (Sam Riley), a mind as brilliant as hers with whom she begins to have a relationship later on.

   Nacida con el nombre de Maria Salomea Skłodowska en Varsovia, Polonia, el 7 de noviembre del 1867, la científica desde pequeña siempre tuvo filiación por la ciencia, puesto que desde muy joven tuvo que trabajar medio tiempo para costear sus estudios consiguiendo una Maestría y posteriormente un doctorado en Física y Matemáticas. Sus descubrimientos del Polonio y el Radio la hicieron merecedora de dos premios nobeles, junto con su esposo Pierre Curie, quien la apoyó en todo momento. Madame Curie, por exposición prolongada a la radiación, muere de leucemia el 4 de Julio de 1934 a la edad de 66 años en Passy, Francia.

   La historia en la película comienza en el año 1893, donde vemos a una joven Marie Skłodowska (Rosamund Pike) intentando encajar en el mundo académico, pero por el hecho de ser mujer, se le ha colocado muchos obstáculos. Ese mismo año conoce a Pierre Curie (Sam Riley), una mente tan brillante como la de ella con quien comienza a tener una relación posteriormente.

   After being displaced by academics and being rejected in several places to pursue her scientific knowledge, Marie meets again with Pierre, who realizing her situation and recognizing the genius of that woman, offers her a space to work freely and join forces with him in his research. Marie, at first reluctant to accept Pierre's proposal, finally accepts, making it clear that her relationship with him would only be professional for the benefit of science, but love in both of them is soon born and they fall in love and decide to get married.

   From then on, the Curies became one of the most brilliant duos of their time, standing out above the academics who did not support their work, exposing before the scientific community their greatest discovery, Polonium (name chosen due to Marie Curie's Polish origin) and Radium, thus exposing the essence of Radioactivity.

   Tras ser desplazada por los académicos y ser rechazada en varios lugares para proseguir con sus conocimientos científicos, Marie se encuentra de nuevo con Pierre, y este al darse cuenta de su situación y reconociendo la genialidad de aquella mujer, le ofrece un espacio para trabajar libremente y unir fuerzas con él en sus investigaciones. Marie, al principio renuente para aceptar la propuesta de Pierre, al final acepta dejando en claro que su relación con él solo sería profesional para beneficio de la ciencia, pero el amor en ambos no tarda en nacer por lo que se enamoran y deciden contraer matrimonio.

   A partir de entonces, los Curie se convierten en uno de los dúos más brillantes de su época, sobresaliendo por encima de los académicos que no han apoyado su trabajo, exponiendo ante la comunidad científica su mayor descubrimiento, el Polonio (nombre elegido debido al origen polaco de Marie Curie) y el Radio, exponiendo así por esencia la Radioactividad.

   Since then, the Curies' work has been greatly recognized, with a Nobel Prize being awarded in Pierre Curie's name. The tension for recognition begins to grow stronger, with a Pierre afflicted by tuberculosis and a newly delivered Marie. But the love between the two seems stronger to face the differences of a hostile world, until Pierre is killed by a horse-drawn carriage that crushes his skull causing his instant death. From this moment on, the film shows us a fragile Madame Curie, tormented by the death of her husband and with two daughters under her care.

   Despite the unfortunate events, Curie never abandoned her work, she continued with her discoveries and scientific studies on Radioactivity obtaining a place at the Sorbonne University in Paris, becoming the first woman professor of such an illustrious university. Within the film we will find scenes 'Flashfoward' where we will witness both the negative and positive effects of Radioactivity, such as the creation of the nuclear bomb, which wreaked havoc in the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II and the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl, Croatia, as well as the use of radiotherapy to treat cancer.

   Desde entonces, el trabajo de los Curie ha sido grandemente reconocido, otorgándoles un premio Nobel a nombre de Pierre Curie. La tensión por el reconocimiento comienza hacerse fuerte, con un Pierre afectado por la tuberculosis y una Marie recién parida. Pero el amor entre ambos pareciera más fuerte para enfrentar las diferencias de un mundo hostil, hasta que Pierre muere por un coche tirado por caballos que aplastaron su cráneo causándole la muerte al instante. A partir de este momento la película nos muestra a una Madame Curie frágil, atormentada por la muerte de su esposo y con dos hijas bajo su cuidado.

   A pesar de los eventos desafortunados, Curie jamás abandonó su trabajo, siguió con sus descubrimientos y estudios científicos sobre la Radioactividad obteniendo una plaza en la Universidad Sorbona de París, convirtiéndose así mismo en la primera mujer catedrática de una universidad tan ilustre. Dentro de la película encontraremos escenas ’Flashfoward’ donde presenciaremos los efectos tanto negativos como positivos de la Radioactividad, como la creación de la bomba nuclear, que causó graves estragos en las ciudades japonesas Hiroshima y Nagasaki durante la segunda Guerra Mundial y el desastre nuclear en Chernobyl, Croacia, así como también el uso de la radioterapia para tratar el cáncer.

   Indeed, the feature film not only shows us the scientist's love life, but also what her discovery caused years later, showing the viewer both the destructive and medicinal results of her discovery. After Pierre's death, Madame Curie falls into an abyss of fragility, so she awakens a whirlwind of passion with her co-worker Paul Langevin (Aneurin Barnard), with whom she earns the repudiation of the Parisians, receiving harsh xenophobic and even racist words outside her home.

   However, despite the harsh controversy that overwhelmed the scientist, she remained strong and firmly focused on her work, managing to obtain, 8 years later, another Nobel Prize, this time for chemistry, which she received with acclamation, firstly from the women present at her award speech. Although the film does not show us much about Curie's maternal relationship with her daughters, we can observe in a few aspects that she has not been an ideal mother but an exemplary one, especially for Irene Curie (Anya Taylor-Joy), who has followed in her mother's footsteps by granting her faith in radioactivity as a doctor to help the French wounded soldiers during the First World War, thus creating, together with her mother, the first radiological centers for military use.

   En efecto, el largometraje no solo nos muestra la vida amorosa de la científica, sino que también nos enseña lo que su descubrimiento causó años posteriores, haciendo ver al espectador los resultados tanto destructivos como medicinales de su descubrimiento. Después de la muerte de Pierre, Madame Curie cae en un abismo de fragilidad, por lo que despierta un torbellino pasional con su compañero de trabajo Paul Langevin (Aneurin Barnard), con el que se gana el repudio de los parisinos, recibiendo duras palabras xenofóbicas y hasta racistas en las afueras de su hogar.

   Sin embargo, a pesar de la dura polémica que abrumaba a la científica, se mantuvo fuerte y firme enfocada en su trabajo, logrando obtener, 8 años después, otro premio Nobel esta vez de química, el cual recibe con aclamación primeramente de las mujeres presentes en su discurso de premiación. Aunque la película no nos muestra mucho sobre la relación maternal de Curie con sus hijas, podemos observar en pocos aspectos que no ha sido una madre ideal pero si ejemplar, especialmente para Irene Curie (Anya Taylor-Joy), quien ha seguido los pasos de su madre otorgando su fe en la radioactividad como médico para ayudar a los soldados heridos franceses durante la primera Guerra Mundial, creando así, junto con su madre, los primeros centros radiológicos para uso militar.

   Su lamentable muerte, causada por exposiciones constantes a la radiación, debido a que siempre guardaba un frasco en sus bolsillos o junto a su cama, le provocó una leucemia muriendo el 4 de julio de 1934. Al final, la película nos muestra sobre los beneficios del radio, mostrándonos fotos de Irene y su esposo quienes siempre tuvieron fe por la Radioactividad para el uso de los rayos X, los cuales lograron salvar millones de vidas.

   La película en realidad es una historia de amor entre Pierre y Marie Curie, basada en el libro: ’Radioactive: Marie and Pierre Curie, a tale of love and fallout’, una biografía ilustrada que muestra con imágenes fotográficas este aspecto de la vida de la afamada científica. La dirección del filme fue realizada por la cineasta y dibujante iraní Marjane Satrapi, reconocida por su realización del cómic Persépolis, por el cual posteriormente creó un filme animado. ‘Radioactive’, fue producida por Working Title Films, Studio Canal, Shoebox Films y Pioneer Stilking Films estrenándose en el año 2019 y distribuida por Amazon Studios en el 2020.

   I thought at first that the movie would be a complete biography of the scientist's life, but after seeing her relationship, I understood that it only focused on her love life with Pierre Curie, her scientific discoveries and recognitions, the effects caused by the death of her husband, the scandal caused by her relationship with Paul Langevin, the positive and negative effects of Radiation and her death caused by her constant exposure to it. The acting cast seemed to me to be just right, having Rosamund Pike (GoneGirl) as Madame Curie and Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen's Gambit) as Irene Curie in the cast. This is a forgettable though not necessarily bad drama, so I give it a 7/10 recommendation for all those who enjoy these biographical films.

   Pensaba al principio que la película sería una biografía completa de la vida de la científica, pero después de ver su relación, entendí que solo se enfocaba en su vida amorosa con Pierre Curie, sus descubrimientos científicos y reconocimientos, los efectos causados por el fallecimiento de su esposo, el escándalo que causó su relación con Paul Langevin, los efectos positivos y negativos de la Radiación y su muerte causada por su exposición constante a esta. El elenco actoral me pareció el más indicado, teniendo en el reparto a Rosamund Pike (GoneGirl) como Madame Curie y a Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen's Gambit) como Irene Curie. Este es un drama olvidable aunque no necesariamente malo, por lo que le doy un 7/10 de recomendación para todos aquellos que disfrutan de estos filmes biográficos.
