As I mentioned in my last movie post, I am a big fan of dark comedies. I also happen to be fan of Samara Weaving, and I have been ever since I first saw her guest star in Ash vs Evil Dead. She had that special something that successful actors have. Since then, she has been a rising star in Hollywood and is especially well known as a scream queen. She will soon to joining the X-Men as well. But her first big film is a classic, Ready or Not.

Earlier this year, a sequel to this film was released, but before seeing it I wanted to re-watch the original as the sequel begins where the original ends. It was definitely better the second time around! The movie is centered on Grace (Samara Weaving), who was an orphaned child, marrying the man of her dream Alex Le Domas, an heir to a family fortune of the Le Domas Games Empire. However, has been estranged from his family for years. Notwithstanding, they have the wedding at his family's estate.

That night she discovers it's a family tradition to play a game after a new person marries into the family, which is picked by a box from which Grace must pull a card. Later we learn all the cards are usually good, except one, Hide and Seek, which she happens to receive. Believing the game to be innocent she hides and waits. Meanwhile, we learn that the game really means that the family have to hunt her down and sacrifice her to the devil before dawn or they will all die as they have a family deal with the devil by way of a man named Le Bail. They arm themselves for the hunt.

Grace is still hiding when one of the wives accidentally shoots another, killing her in the room Grace is hiding. She then overhears the sadistic plan. The game becomes all to real and Grace must survive until dawn or be a human sacrifice.

She turned out to be more adept at the game than the family anticipates. Also, clumsy (or drugged up) wives keep accidentally killing off family and staff, thereby helping her out. Those scenes, although dark, are hilarious!

As the night carries on, she continues to fight and evade but is eventually captured.

Is it the end? Of course not, but how she escapes I will leave as a surprise in case you haven't seen the film yet. It's a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed it even more the second time around!

This is a film that is not appropriate for kids, so you won't want them around while viewing for certain. It is funny, but very gory, and overall a very good time. That's why I give it a 90/100!
