Nichols serves us a firm hand, a melodrama with a romantic tone, or an allegory that reflects the dangers of rapacious capitalism, illegal and criminal enrichment.

A cowardly swindle in a life of luxury. Either way, it is an entertaining and moving film that invites us to look inside ourselves.

We must ask ourselves if our life is happy or if social and professional success at any cost is the goal of our happiness.

It is also sometimes that fate insists on giving us a second chance to be worthy and respected.

Henry Turner (H. Ford), working in New York, is an irascible lawyer, bossy with his secretary (he never apologizes), a mean, arrogant and unscrupulous winner, and an unhappy family life (both unfaithful to their partners!) ), sacrificed for financial and professional success with no aversion to deceit, manipulation of the truth and withholding evidence.

His life will take an unexpected turn when he is shot in the head during a robbery while going downstairs to buy cigarettes.

But fate will give him a second chance to be reborn, albeit from scratch, because after a period of recovery he no longer remembers anything of his previous life.

In this way, you will have to learn to read and write, to live and think about what you need to be happy.

Excellent performance by Harrison Ford, he carries all the weight of the film (his physique is overwhelming), as a not very expressive actor he gives a very appropriate tone to the character of Harry, in the film halfway through he changed his character.

The lovely Annette Bening is kind and romantic as a hapless wife who will understand the love of a strange new husband.

Of note is the work of supporting actor Bill Nunn, an actor of color who plays the physical therapist who helps Henry find himself.

Thanks to J.J. Abrams for the touching storyline, those who love noble sentiments and optimistic stories can enjoy watching a couple kiss on a Central Park bench.

Harrison Ford, despite being an iconic star of action adventure films, always strived to prove himself as a serious actor, even taking roles they were looking like an “Oscar bait”. The clearest example is the protagonist of Regarding Henry, 1991 drama directed by Mike Nichols. The plot begins with introduction of Henry Turner (played by Harrison Ford), wealthy, ruthless and amoral New York City lawyer. One night he runs out of cigarettes and comes to convenience store in the worst possible moment, interrupting the robbery by young criminal (played by John Leguizamo) and getting shot in the head. He survives, but he suffers debilitating brain damage. After he wakes up from coma, he is nearly a vegetable but slowly recovers and has to re-learn the most basic things like walking and talking. He also suffers from amnesia and when he returns to his wife Sarah (played by Anette Benning) and 12-year old daughter Rachel (Mikki Allen), they are complete strangers to him. Henry begins to reconstruct his old life and begins to realise that he doesn’t like the person he used to be. His wife and daughter see new childlike Henry as more honest and loving person.

Script for the film was written by Jeffrey Abrams, these days better known as J. J. Abrams, immensely successful film and television director and producer of action genre. His early attempt at drama is based on not so original, but nevertheless very promising concept. The script, however, especially after the novelty of Henry’s condition and his new life wears off, soon becomes collection of cliches and Hollywood sappiness at its worst. While displaying typically 1980s and early 1990s disdain towards ultra-materialistic and ruthless yuppies, idea of helping them see the errors of their ways through debilitating injury isn’t properly thought over. Abrams’ script very conveniently allows Henry to be almost miraculously recovered and regain all of his physical abilities (including rediscovering sex with his wife) and enough cognitive abilities to become some sort of “sacred fool” and moral anchor within the offices of its corrupt law firm. Financial problems that affect him and his family because of the cost of his medical treatment are mentioned, but then conveniently ignored in order for Regarding Henry to get conventional happy ending. Mike Nichols with his solid but mostly uninspired direction doesn’t help with flaws of Abrams’ script. Harrison Ford, on the other hand, delivers very good performance and almost elevates the film above mediocrity. Same can be said for Bill Nunn in brilliant, but tragically underused role of Henry’s cheerful physical therapist. Music score by Hans Zimmer, on the other hand, is uninspiring and makes Regarding Henry look like routine television production instead of big Hollywood film with high budget. Critics didn’t like the film and Ford didn’t receive any awards. Film performed relatively well at the box office but this, ironically, had more to do with his iconic image on posters than the actual quality of his acting work.
