Every one longs for a better future, one that you're proud to wake up in the morning and breath in fresh air for, one that would put smiles on the faces of everyone that truely matter to you, a future that you're proud of and when you look back you smile with joy.
This movie really resonated a lot and when my youth president in church of gave us a list of movies to pick from for our coming youth program TAKEN, I easy chose this one because I knew for certain that this movie was worth watching over and over again.
I wasn't surprised when a bunch of other people chose this one. It's natural because this movie àctually speaks to a lot of people in many different ways. If you're going through a lot and it seems like there's no hope, just know that there's light at the tunnel and whenever you feel like giving up, just know that the best is yet to come.
About
The movie Rise is a true life biographical sport movie, it was directed by Akin Omotoso, from a script written by Arash Amel and released by Disney. It was actually filmed in Greece and this is the first time Disney is shooting any of their movies in Europe, and it turned out to be worth it.
It was released on June 24, 2022 and starred newcomers Uche Agada, Ral Agada as main characters and Jaden Osimuwa, Elijah Shomanke, Yetide Badaki, Dayo Okeniyi, Christos Loulis, Efthimis Chalkidis.
Plot
It tells the story of Charles and Veronica who had to leave their son behind to travel all the way to Greece in search of a better life. They arrive but due to some issues are unable to get their Visas and must remain perfectly hidden in other not to get deported.
It shows the struggle to survive in an entirely new world, a world where migrants are treated like criminals. They finally settle for a bit and give birth to four sons. This sons grow up to be lovely children who assists their parents to make ends meet.
Things starts to get harder for them when the only way to get their papers is to get a good job and no one would employ a migrant. In the midst of the whole turmoil, the boys find out that they love basketball and actually go on to learn how to play the game.
This discover actually takes them to places they had never dreamt, but their journey isn't short of impossible challenges and unexpected temptation. But would the love of family be enough to drive the Antetokounmpo family to the end?, You'll have to watch the movie to find out, hehe.
What I think about some Characters
Well, I think they did really well with the characters and it was great to see the addition of the Nigerian Actress Joke Silver. The few I'll talk about are;
Yetide Badaki

I truely loved her character, her smile and beautiful face actually gave me so much warmth, it felt so real seeing the love she portrayed. I think she didn't over do it and the Nigerian accent was pretty good. Her character was one of the strengths, being a woman isn't easy because when the pillar starts to shake you're there to help him stand again.
Dayo Okeniyi

My main man, this guy was a natural, he actually became one with the character. I almost thought he'd been in Nigeria all his life, haha. So much responsibility being the man of the house. I could feel his helplessness sometimes and it surely wasn't easy catering for four boys. Since it's a real life story I can't say if he played the real life character perfectly but he sure did kill it for me.
Uche Agada

He has this calm demeanor and it wasn't surprising to find out that he's new to the acting business. But that didn't really reflect because he played the role really well. I could feel that sudden urge to bring about positive change for the love of family
Ral Agada

I must say he fit the picture nicely as the brother who helps his brother through everything. His character wasn't so great because I could sense some little lapses with his acting but it wasn't too noticeable. Everything played out really well at the end.
My take on the movie
The movie actually tells the tale of the strength that comes with togetherness and also shows the challenges that comes with being a migrant.
No one enjoys being treated like trash but everyone always wants to live a better life, even if not for themselves but for the sake of their family and the future.
I love the way the strength of family was portrayed. A lot of my friends have argued that they didn't actually show a lot of game action and how the boys got to improve in the game and I tried to make them understand that what they did in this movie was to make us see the struggles the family had to go through,the hard times, the good times, the hopeless times and the joyous times. It was quite beautiful to see, and really touching.
I remember the scene when Thanasis had to take off his shoes so his brother could play. That scene actually touched me and I could feel the love they both had for each other, they didn't care what the world thought or what the others had to say, what was important was that they had each other. I also remember the scene when their dad got them new shoes even if he couldn't have afforded to spend that much money, nothing beats the love a father has for his children.
It also shows resilience and resolve to keep going no matter what. Giannis could have given up when he thought his brother was better. But then he didn't stop because he knew there was always going to be room for everyone to shine and his time came, everyone always has their time but then you can't go at it alone, you need someone to always remind you that you can, and you can be better than you think.
Overall I'll give it an 8 out of ten, and I'll recommend you go watch it immediately.

Todo el mundo anhela un futuro mejor, uno del que te sientas orgulloso de levantarte por la mañana y respirar aire fresco, uno que ponga sonrisas en los rostros de todos los que realmente te importan, un futuro del que te sientas orgulloso y que cuando mires atrás sonrías con alegría.
Esta película realmente resonó mucho y cuando mi presidente de la juventud en la iglesia de nos dio una lista de películas para elegir para nuestro próximo programa de la juventud TAKEN, fácilmente elegí este porque yo sabía con certeza que esta película valía la pena ver una y otra vez.
No me sorprendió que un grupo de personas eligiera esta película. Es natural porque esta película le habla a mucha gente de muchas maneras diferentes. Si estás pasando por muchas cosas y parece que no hay esperanza, debes saber que hay luz en el túnel y que siempre que tengas ganas de rendirte, debes saber que lo mejor está por llegar.

Trama

Muestra la lucha por sobrevivir en un mundo totalmente nuevo, un mundo en el que los inmigrantes son tratados como delincuentes. Finalmente se asientan un poco y dan a luz a cuatro hijos. Estos hijos crecen y se convierten en niños encantadores que ayudan a sus padres a llegar a fin de mes.
Las cosas empiezan a complicarse para ellos cuando la única manera de conseguir sus papeles es conseguir un buen trabajo y nadie emplearía a un emigrante. En medio de toda la confusión, los chicos descubren que les gusta el baloncesto y se lanzan a aprender a jugarlo.
Este descubrimiento les lleva a lugares que nunca habían soñado, pero su viaje no está exento de retos imposibles y tentaciones inesperadas. Pero, ¿será el amor a la familia suficiente para llevar a la familia Antetokounmpo hasta el final?, Tendrás que ver la película para averiguarlo, jeje.
Lo que pienso de algunos personajes
Bueno, creo que lo hicieron muy bien con los personajes y fue genial la incorporación de la actriz nigeriana Joke Silver. Los pocos de los que voy a hablar son;

Me encantó su personaje, su sonrisa y su bello rostro me dieron mucha calidez, me pareció tan real el amor que representaba. Creo que no se excedió y el acento nigeriano era bastante bueno. Su personaje fue uno de los puntos fuertes, ser una mujer no es fácil porque cuando el pilar empieza a temblar estás ahí para ayudarle a levantarse de nuevo.
Dayo Okeniyi

Mi hombre principal, este tipo era natural, realmente se convirtió en uno con el personaje. Casi pensé que había estado en Nigeria toda su vida, jaja. Tiene mucha responsabilidad al ser el hombre de la casa. A veces podía sentir su impotencia y seguramente no era fácil atender a cuatro niños. Como es una historia de la vida real, no puedo decir si interpretó el personaje de la vida real a la perfección, pero para mí lo hizo muy bien.

Tiene un comportamiento tranquilo y no me sorprendió saber que es nuevo en el mundo de la actuación. Pero eso no se reflejó porque interpretó el papel muy bien. Pude sentir ese impulso repentino de provocar un cambio positivo por amor a la familia

Debo decir que encajó muy bien en la película como el hermano que ayuda a su hermano en todo. Su personaje no fue tan bueno porque pude percibir algunos pequeños lapsos con su actuación pero no fue demasiado notorio. Al final todo se desarrolló muy bien.
Mi opinión sobre la película
La película realmente cuenta la fuerza que viene con la unión y también muestra los desafíos que viene con ser un migrante.
A nadie le gusta que le traten como basura, pero todo el mundo quiere vivir una vida mejor, aunque no sea por sí mismo, sino por el bien de su familia y del futuro.
Me encanta la forma en que se retrata la fuerza de la familia. Muchos de mis amigos han argumentado que en realidad no mostraron mucha acción del juego y cómo los chicos llegaron a mejorar en el juego y traté de hacerles entender que lo que hicieron en esta película fue hacernos ver las luchas por las que tuvo que pasar la familia, los momentos duros, los buenos, los desesperados y los alegres. Fue muy bonito de ver, y realmente conmovedor.
Recuerdo la escena en la que Thanasis tuvo que quitarse los zapatos para que su hermano pudiera jugar. Esa escena me conmovió y pude sentir el amor que ambos se tenían, no les importaba lo que el mundo pensara o lo que los demás tuvieran que decir, lo importante era que se tenían el uno al otro. También recuerdo la escena en la que su padre les compró unos zapatos nuevos aunque no pudiera permitirse gastar tanto dinero, nada supera el amor que un padre siente por sus hijos.
También muestra la resistencia y la determinación de seguir adelante pase lo que pase. Giannis podría haberse rendido cuando pensó que su hermano era mejor. Pero luego no se detuvo porque sabía que siempre iba a haber espacio para que todos brillaran y llegó su momento, todo el mundo tiene siempre su momento pero luego no puedes ir solo, necesitas que alguien te recuerde siempre que puedes, y puedes ser mejor de lo que crees.
En general le doy un 8 sobre 10, y te recomiendo que vayas a verla inmediatamente.
