David Cronenberg is a director who usually takes a path that no other would take, and in doing so often gives the viewer a taste of grossness. He is considered by many to be the creator of BodyHorror, but in his career there have been exceptions devoid of worms or some degeneration.
One film that is different from what Cronenberg is famous for is the acclaimed film Scanners. It is a 1981 production so one could say that it was a veritable heyday of horror and scifi films. Watching the film, the first thing that strikes you is the low budget, which was masked by the script in a rather intriguing way. However, I, during the screening, often felt embarrassed watching the characters struggle to look and wring their mouths.
Unfortunately, in my opinion, this film lacked the proper tracks on which it could ride smoothly with the plot, as it is quite chaotic in places and by the end if you are not bored you will get lost.
Scanners are people who have the ability to read others' minds, but also to influence them.
The film focuses on a 35-year-old protagonist who discovers by chance that he is a person with an extraordinary ability and is kidnapped by a mysterious doctor, but two warring corporations will want to eliminate him or trick him.
The work tries to show that where the rich are, there is often harm done, while the two warring corporations are always the ones who end up badly, and the victims are people with the ability to scan.
The idea is really very interesting because during the screening we learn how the Scanners came into being and what their purpose might be, but the way the film was executed unfortunately can bore the viewer with little action content. Unfortunately, most of the scenes are staring at someone with a grimace on their face and that's the whole thing. Of course, there are great two scenes ( the scene in the corporation with the fight between the two Scanners and the final scene).
In most scenes, the music can be very infantile at times and loses a lot of tension building.
For many, this film is a cult, but I could not force myself to enjoy the screening.
It's a film where the idea is great, but the execution is poor, and the actors often behave like amateurs who even caricature their mouths to make them look more sinister. Despite the fact that the film was inspired by Naked lunch (a chapter of the book), the film as a whole is just an excerpt, which does not tell the viewer much, being served on a dirty plate next to a garbage can.
David Cronenberg, as you can see, not only creates great horror films that bite hard into the mind like bugs into couches, but also creates films that don't have that something.
Apparently, I'm weird because I'm in the minority that doesn't find this film outstanding, or even average. It's a shame that Scanners is a film that made me feel like scanning my brain into my computer to find the right movie file and throw it into the depths of the trash.
Only the film is saved by the two previously mentioned scenes, which I found to be well-realised and mega well acted.

David Cronenberg to reżyser, który zazwyczaj podąża ścieżka, która żaden inny by się nie podjął, a przy tym często daje posmakować widzowi obrzydliwości. Wielu uznaje go za twórcę Body Horroru, jednak w jego karierze zdarzały się wyjątki pozbawione robaków czy jakiś wynaturzeń.
Jednym z filmów, które są inne niż to czym Cronenberg słynie to głośny film Skanerzy. Jest to produkcja z 1981 wiec można powiedzieć, ze istnym rozkwicie horrorów i scifi. Oglądając film pierwsze co rzuca się w oczy to niski budżet, który w dość intrygujący sposób został zamaskowany przez scenariusz. Jednakże ja w czasie seansu czułem często zażenowanie oglądając postacie, które walczą na spojrzenia i wykrzywianie ust.
Niestety w mojej ocenie brakowało temu filmowi odpowiednich torów po której mógłby jechać płynnie z fabuła, bo jest ona miejscami dość chaotyczna i pod koniec jeśli się nie znudzimy to się pogubimy.
Skanerzy to osoby, które maja możliwość czytania innym w myślach, ale również wpływania na nich.
Film skupia się na 35 letnim bohaterze, który odkrywa przypadkiem, ze jest osoba z niezwykła umiejętnością i zostaje porwany przez tajemniczego doktora, jednak dwie walczące ze sobą korporacje będą chciały go zlikwidować bądź podchwytliwie zwabić.
Dzieło stara się pokazać, ze tam gdzie bogaci, tam często dzieje się krzywda, zaś dwie walczące ze sobą korporacje to zawsze kończy się zle, a ofiarami są ludzie z umiejętnością skanowania.
Pomysł jest na prawdę bardzo ciekawy bo w czasie seansu dowiadujemy się jak powstali Skanerzy i jaki mogą mieć cel, jednak to jak film został zrealizowany niestety potrafi wynudzic widza mała zawartością akcji. Niestety większość scen to wpatrywanie się na kogoś z grymasem na twarzy i to całość. Oczywiście są świetne dwie sceny ( scena w korporacji z walka dwóch Skanerów oraz finałowa scena)
W większości scen muzyka bywa bardzo infantylna i mocno traci na budowaniu napięcia.
Dla wielu ten film jest kultowy, jednak ja nie mogłem sie zmusić by czerpać radośc z seansu.
To film gdzie pomysł jest świetny, ale wykonanie mizerne, a aktorzy często zachowują sie jak amatorzy, którzy wręcz karykaturalnie wykręcaja swoje usta by nadać im bardziej złowieszcza minę. Mimo, ze film inspirował sie Nagim lunchem ( rozdziałem książki) to jednak w całości jest on właśnie tylko jakimś urywkiem, który niewiele mówi widzowi będąc podanym na brudnym talerzu koło śmietnika
David Cronenberg jak widać, nie tylko tworzy świetne horrory, które mocno wgryzają sie w umysł niczym pluskwy do tapczanow, ale i tworzy filmy, które nie maja tego czegoś.
Widać jestem dziwny bo należę do mniejszości, która nie uważa ten film za wybitny, a nawet przeciętny. Szkoda, ze Skanerzy to film, ktkry spowodował, ze mam ochotę zeskanować swój mózg do komputera znaleźć odpowiedni plik z filmem i wrzucić do czeluści kosza.
Jedynie film ratują dwie wcześniej wymienione sceny, które uważam, za świetnie zrealiowane i mega dobrze zagrane.
