   Vamos a desglosar esta historia por partes, comenzando con el pasado de Camille. A medida que avanzan los capítulos, se presentan numerosos flashbacks que revelan su traumática niñez, la muerte de su hermana, el notable desapego de su madre, y su experiencia como víctima de lo que parece ser una violación grupal durante su adolescencia.    Aquí vengo una vez más a hablarles de otra miniserie de suspenso y asesinato. Desde que le agarre gustó a las series no he parado, y las que más me gustan son las de este género. Cómo pasé tanto tiempo sin verlas pues tengo que ponerme al día con algunas que llamaron la atención el año de su estreno, una de ellas es Sharp Objects o heridas abiertas en español, que fue estrenada en el 2018. Una de las razones por las que decidí ver esta miniserie, además del género fue que la protagonista es Amy Adams y está actriz siempre me ha gustado mucho y aquí no me decepcionó.

   Here I come once again to tell you about another suspense and murder miniseries. Since I’ve taken a liking to series I haven’t stopped, and the ones I like the most are those of this genre. Since I spent so much time without watching them, I have to catch up with some of them that caught my attention the year of their premiere, one of them is Sharp Objects or open wounds in Spanish, which was released in 2018. One of the reasons why I decided to watch this miniseries, besides the genre was that the protagonist is Amy Adams and this actress has always liked me a lot and here she did not disappoint me.

   

   Camille (Amy Adams) es una periodista que debe regresar a su pueblo natal para investigar y escribir sobre el asesinato de una jóven y la desaparición de otra en extrañas circunstancias.

   Los habitantes del pueblo son personas que se dejan llevar mucho por las apariencias, también son misteriosos porque al parecer todos tienen secretos que no quieren que sean descubiertos. La madre de Camille, Adora, es una de esas personas, es una madre sobreprotectora con Amma la hermanastra menor de Camille.

   Con el horrible descubrimiento del segundo cuerpo, se empieza la investigación en busca del culpable. Los sospechosos son hombres cercanos a la familias de las asesinadas.    Nuestra protagonista es una mujer perturbada con muchos conflictos internos que no ha podido superar, ha estado internada en un hospital psiquiátrico, es capaz de hacerse daño físicamente, dónde expresa su depresión y sentimientos, por lo que podemos suponer que fue algo muy grave lo que pasó. Todo indica que su trauma está relacionado a su madre, pero está a su vez se refiere a Camille como una joven difícil que le dio mucha guerra durante la adolescencia.

   Adora, es una mujer muy importante en el pueblo, con una relación particular con el jefe de la policía, al principio pensé que era su pareja, pero no, porque tenía un esposo, aunque está persona es como un cero a la izquierda. Cómo dije es sobreprotectora con Amma, quien sufre de repentinas enfermedades sin explicaciones, pero ella no es la única, pues Camille tuvo una hermana menor que sufría también de enfermedades inexplicables que le ocasionaron la muerte y esto puede ser una de las causas de la mala relación de Camille y su mamá.

   Adora, is a very important woman in the village, with a particular relationship with the chief of police, at first I thought it was her partner, but no, because she had a husband, although this person is like a zero to the left. As I said she is overprotective of Amma, who suffers from sudden unexplained illnesses, but she is not the only one, because Camille had a younger sister who also suffered from unexplained illnesses that caused her death and this may be one of the causes of the bad relationship between Camille and her mother.

   

   Mi opinión con respecto a esto es, si no te llevas bien con tu mamá, por algo del pasado y su relación es distante y llena de reproches. Porqué si vas en un asunto de trabajo, tienes que quedarte en su casa, lo más lógico es que Camille se quedará en un hotel y solo viera a su mamá en ocasiones específicas y necesarias. Pero lo que sucedió es que Camille llega a su casa de la infancia y se instala en su viejo cuarto. Ahí es donde se va a relacionar con su hermana Amma a quien apenas conoce.

   Amma, es una adolescente un poco extraña o muy extraña, en ocasiones es la niña consentida de mamá, la que parece que no parte un plato, pero cuando su mamá se descuida se convierte en una persona totalmente diferente, cambia su apariencia y su conducta, hasta convertirse en una rebelde de mal comportamiento.

   My opinion regarding this is, if you don’t get along with your mom, because of something in the past and your relationship is distant and full of reproaches. Why if you go on a work matter, you have to stay at her house, the most logical thing would be for Camille to stay in a hotel and only see her mom on specific and necessary occasions. But what happened is that Camille arrives at her childhood home and moves into her old room. That’s where she is going to bond with her sister Amma whom she barely knows.

   Amma, is a teenager a little strange or very strange, sometimes she is the spoiled child of mom, the one who seems not to break a plate, but when her mom is careless she becomes a totally different person, she changes her appearance and her behavior, until she becomes a rebel, misbehavior.

   

   Hasta este momento no les he comentado nada de los asesinatos ni los sospechosos, la razón es que en los 8 capítulos que dura la miniserie se enfoca en Camille, en su lucha interna, su relación con su mamá y con su hermana. Claro, Camille también hace su Investigación en busca del culpable y realiza algunas entrevista donde descubre cosas que la harán sospechar de su círculo familiar.

   Está búsqueda del asesino es viciada y vacía, los primeros sospechosos fueron el padre de la primera victima y el hermano de la segunda. La razones a mi parecer eran un poco simples, no puedes sospechar del un hermano por tener una relación especial con su hermana. Además, la impresión que se tenía de estas jóvenes es igual a la que les comenté que me dio Amma, en público eran unas y en privado otras. Aunque en un pueblo que vive de las apariencias es justificable que las personas no se muestren tal cual son y más cuando son adolescentes y quieren divertirse.

   This search for the murderer is flawed and empty, the first suspects were the father of the first victim and the brother of the second. The reasons in my opinion were a bit simple, you can’t suspect a brother for having a special relationship with his sister. Besides, the impression I had of these young women is the same as the one I told you that Amma gave me, in public they were one and in private they were another. Although in a town that lives by appearances it is justifiable that people do not show themselves as they are and even more so when they are teenagers and want to have fun.

   

   Como pueden darse cuenta la mayoría de la personas en esta miniserie no son lo que parecen, por eso digo que todos guardan secretos, unos más graves que los otros. Pero esa intriga de conocer los secretos ajenos es lo que nos mantiene atentos en cada capítulo, aunque en ocasiones se pueden tornar un poco lentos.

   Por ejemplo, para mí los personajes que más me intrigaban y de los que quería conocer sus secretos siempre fueron Adora y Amma, la madre e hija perfectas. Porque a Camille la vamos conociendo en cada capítulo con el uso de flashbacks. Y como toda la historia se centra en ellas tres, así como lo refleja el pósters de la miniserie, pues el final también lo está, pero no te lo voy a contar porque tiene muchas vértebras incluidas. Lo que si es cierto que a diferencia del final de la última reseña de miniserie que hice, está si me sorprendió un poco, aunque también me dejó con algunas inquietudes sin resolver.

But that intrigue of knowing other people’s secrets is what keeps us attentive in each chapter, although sometimes they can become a little slow.

   For me, for example, the characters that intrigued me the most and whose secrets I always wanted to know were Adora and Amma, the perfect mother and daughter. Because we get to know Camille in each chapter with the use of flashbacks. And as the whole story focuses on the three of them, as reflected in the posters of the miniseries, so is the ending, but I’m not going to tell you because it has many vertebrae included. What is true is that unlike the ending of the last miniseries review I did, this one did surprise me a bit, although it also left me with some unresolved concerns.

   

   En términos generales es una miniserie que vale la pena ser vista, muy bien realizada, con excelente producción, escenarios, fotografía y actuaciones dignas de este tipo de trama. Leí varias reseñas y encontré algunas opiniones encontradas, a algunos les pareció la mejor serie de ese año con varias nominaciones a premios, y para otros solo el hecho de ser realizada por HBO la hizo preferible sobre otras, pero no encontraron nada especial y con algunos vacíos en el final.

   One thing is clear, HBO always delivers great content. Yesterday I saw the miniseries Sharp Objects and it was a good watch no doubt about that. Amy Adams made a great performance as the main actress but other characters were also played beautifully.

   This story is about a troubled journalist that goes back to her hometown to do some research and write an article about 2 crimes that have been committed in that place. The series makes a lot of use of flashbacks that are always related to something that is happening in the present time. These flashbacks will give us glimpses of information that explain why Camille (Amy Adams character) is the way she is. Each flashback peels a new layer leaving her more exposed to the viewer and gaining our sympathy and understanding.

   It is thanks to these flashbacks we will understand the events that shaped not only her personality but also even the identity of this town. Ugly things happened in the past, and sadly they are happening in the present as well.

   In the first episode, we can start to see the transitions between the current time and the flashbacks and the way they are shot and edited is simply beautiful. There was also a good piano soundtrack that reminded me of Ludovico Einaudi and to my surprise when I checked the author of the song it was him!

   

   Once Camille arrives and begins her research she needs to not only face the damaged atmosphere that results from the recent crimes, but also some ghosts and deep dark traumas from her past. A lot of the dialogue between her and her mom is very subtle, and soon enough we will realize there are often double meanings and intentions when her mom speaks with her.

   There is also her little sister that is already a teenager but they have never met each other, she was born after Camille left town. This little sister appears to be innocent and a good girl, but in this town things aren't always what they seem to be.

   These 2 characters, the mom and the little sister, will be key in how things unfold in the series. The dad is also present but his character always seems to be conveniently in the background, without taking part in the major events or decisions.

   In the first episodes, the series wasn't as intriguing as I was expecting, but it eventually increases its pace and it ends up being an awesome drama-driven murder mystery series. If you have the time to watch this 8-hour miniseries, and if you enjoyed a great drama filled with mystery, then Sharp Objects should be one of your first choices for binge-watching. By the way, this is not a funny murder mystery like Knives Out, this is mostly a drama series with the underlying plot of the murder mystery.

   

   I love how Amy Adams is able to express such a deep pain with just her face, the image above is a good example taken from the most shocking scene in the entire show.

   The best

   • Awesome editing work introducing the flashbacks as if they were memories popping in Camille's head related to her experience in the present.
   • Great performances, especially from the 3 main female characters.
   • Shocking ending with 2 crude extra scenes in the final credits.
   • The show keeps the viewer entertained in 2 ways: first, there is everything related to the crimes, and second, it is also interesting to see the interactions between Camille and her family. Especially with her mom, but also with her sister. Top-notch drama.
   • The show hints in one direction and then in another different direction. It keeps us guessing until the end.

   The worst

   • A slow beginning, despite havings its good moments, could bore some viewers preventing them from enjoying this great story.
