  1. Silo (2023): The Safeguard - S02E09 - RECAP@skiptvads520d

    Source

Its been a few days without writing a blog but its always the same every time I'm implementing or learning some new tech for me, either personally or at work. Titles are starting to come out both on theater and streaming, and the last ones are closing up, in these case the second season of Silo is building to a peak episode that is tying up all the loose ends, I have been waiting to see things come together between Solo and finally who else was with them all this time, they were never alone on Silo 17. This episode goes back and forth between the inside of Silo 17 with Juliette, Solo, Eater and the rest of the kids, and also the increasing tensions in Silo 18, the action, drama and the story keeps unfolding giving out all those details I was expecting from the Silo 17 story and some more from the Silo construction over all but I have a though that this Friday episode 10 is going to end with a huge cliffhanger. What I liked most about this TV was how the writers could resolve loose ends and leave us wondering what is next. The episode from the start take off its mask and straight up reveal what has been going on in Silo 17, all the kids who had been watching Juliette since she arrived. This scenes add new meaning to moments we thought we knew, not everything is what we can see, this shows how well planned out the show plotting is. The dark, claustrophobic atmosphere of both silos remains been awesome at the same time depressing.

Source For me the most interesting part of this episode is how Solo’s true identity and his connection to the vault are revealed, Steve Zahn is just excellent at his role as we find out that Solo is actually Jimmy, Russell Conroy’s son, who was IT head during the rebellion, Jimmy having to watch his father die as a child, while following orders to keep the vault sealed, is an incredible emotional memory to his character. These scenes have a deep chemistry between Zahn and Rebecca Ferguson within their roles of Solo and Juliette to the point she actually start caring for him all of the sudden after she figure out the truth, especially when Juliette helps Solo confront his past trauma and eventually opens up to help the survivors.

One of the most important plot points of the series thus far emerges as the existence of "The Safeguard." In Lukas' investigation of the encoded message of Salvador Quinn, we find out that there are more than 50 silos, but in fact 51 in total, the question remains WHY? not regarding the amount of Silo but why creating them? we already know its toxic out there since Juliette almost didn't make it to Silo 17 although could it also be she is not use to breath air from the outside? I'm getting my theories ready. Then there is this tunnel at the bottom of Silo 18; that we knew since Juliette got access to the hard drive, is guarded by an entirely new mysterious AI system. The Algorithm, as it's called, reveals that only a select few have discovered this secret, although it only spoke to the first two, Salvador Quinn, Mary Meadows and George Wilkins. This information, if shared, is a threat to 'The Safeguard' being activated, which would apparently act as a fail safe built into the design of the silos, but what this safeguard would do is my question, is it to destroy or lock down a Silo? whats is the damn secret behind it, I have always imagine the Silo could be some sort of battery just like in the Matrix.

    Source
Source Even though season two started slow and draggy I have to say it was worth watching, I enjoy how it balances personal drama with bigger mysteries, even if that means keeping the suspense for so long. Clear example is how Simms wife kept from him that she help the rebels even though it was on their best interest but she kept it from him until it was the right time to reveal her cards, playing the double agent, same goes for when Juliette sees the second suit and doesn't just run away because at that moment she realize who Solo is so she felt he need her help. There is also emotional side of the series, how Solo's true identity revelation, his past and the survivors understanding that their parents deaths were not as an attack of aggression or intentional, makes the series way more than just an excellent sci fi story.

There is also the betraying in question, who is manipulating who? I say this because when Knox talk to Walker about the gunpowder I felt something was fishy, it didn't felt right, he comes in saying he knows who the traitor is like again playing double agent, but is he really just feeding false information because I'm sure someone saw Walker camera on, right? they had to.

    Source
Source The episode ends with Lukas going into this tunnel and just the AI talking to him, it was a masterclass in building up tension, now I'm expecting a door to open and he either gets into a room or it goes into some other place, but if we go back in time, I doubt he is going to get any more answers because Meadows still wanted to go out, why? Quinn probably had some answers as he was sneaky enough to destroy all pre rebellion data so the Silo stay in line and avoid this "safeguard" , making it sound more like an auto destruction trigger. There is also the possibility that this Silo takes Lukas to Silo 51 been the "Master Silo" probably who Bernard gets in contact with when his key start glowing, its just the perfect storm of questions and possibilities to what could happen this Friday.
I have to admit, I was hating a bit on this season until episode three, after that things started to pick up to the point where we are now and a lot has happen in the past five episodes. The kids on Silo 17 scenes were epic, how they were watching Juliette and Solo all this damn time. Then we got Silo 18 at breaking point with tension, its a full blown royal rumble because its everyone against everyone, from Bernard and Simms, Knox and Walker, Lukas and the AI, its conflicts in every single level of Silo 18, and Juliette finally has the means to possibly go home to stop Silo 18 to blow up, question is will Bernard cooperate? will he let her come back in? I truly doubt it. With this new safeguard theory going around for the first time on this season I'm more exciting than ever to watch the next episode because things can get really bad but at the same time could be the event that get everyone together.

  2. Silo S02E08 - The Book of Quinn - RECAP@skiptvads531d

    Source

Episode 8 of Silo season 2 almost felt like the lights went off during the series, on top of the Silo itself been all dim out, green and dark orange we got this very very dark scenes on Silo 17 that to be honest most TVs going to have a hard time pulling that kind of darkness on a scene. The story does continue with interesting revelations although some of them I kinda predicted or expected, nothing that truly amaze me, tension did rise on both Silo 17 and Silo 18, on top of betrayal in the mix from someone very unexpected, over all the episode felt a bit boring to be honest, reason why I only gave it a 7/10 but still knowing this series its just down shifting before going full throttle again on the final episodes to keep things interesting for next season.

    Source

Juliette finds herself dealing with a serious medical condition called "the bends" after she wend up too fast to the surface as expected her body couldn't adapt fast enough to the pressure and she went deep to turn on the pump so rising fast gave her this cramps and from what I saw probably her leg went numb and wasn't responding, when she got out discovers Solo is missing and there is blood on the ground, immediately making things tense she start looking for him with no luck, while fighting through severe joint pain that forces her to return to the water to stabilize her condition by staying under water for some time so her body could adapt but I'm not so sure that is the way it works or was it just a wild best guess from her, and now she's paying the price with a potentially fatal case of decompression sickness.

The story about Salvador Quinn's true role in the Silo 18 starts to unfold as Bernard tells Lukas that Quinn was actually a hero, he destroyed historical records and introduced memory suppressing drugs into the water supply to stop future rebellions, every 20 years or so there would be uprisings that threatened to breach the airlock and kill everyone, so Quinn took drastic measures to ensure peace, even to the point of taking the blame for the destruction he caused to protect the greater good, this is the only part of the episode that really got me thinking because at first I thought he was part of the rebellion that only cause a ton of trouble, my next question would be who else knew about his plan? its been too many years and his descendants are actually ashamed of what Quinn did, all this makes things more complex to what I thought I knew about the Silo's past and makes me question everything that went down during that rebellion, was Salvador Quinn was a spy within the rebellion?

    Source
Source There is also Bernard who merely manipulates Walker to become his informant by using her ex wife Carla as leverage, this is a very disappointing moment that I can understand why she did it but I though she had a stronger hand and was all about what was right to do at all cost, I'm not saying she did wrong just that I had a different perspective, at this point is evident how Bernard can be cruel and manipulative as he only allows Walker a glimpse of Carla through a cell window, actually look like a vault and there were a few, Walker is forced to betray her own people to protect someone she loves and the Mechanical's planned raid on medical supplies fails because Walker snitch on them.

Lukas is now looking for a book, he doesn't know exactly what book but first visits Meadows ex apartment flashing his new Blue Batch as he is now officially Bernard shadow, Bernard had too so he could give Lukas all the access he needed to decode Quinn letter but I'm still curious why? my only guess is that they don't have the serum to make people forget anymore, they did mention it on an episode but I haven't seen them using it and by now they probably use it to start to calm down everyone. Lukas eventually after questioning Quinn's descendants, finds out Meadows had a copy of The Pact that was Quinn's personal copy and its here when he decode part of message “If you’ve gotten this far you already know the game is rigged.”

Juliette's search for Solo takes her into a confrontation with more survivors from Silo 17, well I think they are from Silo 17, who knows if they are actually from other Silo who got there just like Juliette?. At first she confront someone who look like had an armor, she flash light Juliette and shoot her an arrow that hurt Juliette badly. This is one of those scenes where the lighting was really problematic, making it hard to enjoy and see whats going on, Juliette manage to get to a meds kid and try to stop the bleeding, seem it was only superficial and nothing critical as she goes out again because its do or die for her, eventually finds out its just kids who attack her, they are survivors.

    Source
Source When Juliette first confront them, they did mention they killed Solo although this makes think they are from Silo 17 and hate Solo, they were just waiting for him to go out and jump him, but I doubt they really kill him since they want access to the vault, speculating there is food and supplies inside. I think the series has invested too much time on Solo just to let him die like that, with so many unanswered questions about his past in Silo 17 and why he was the only survivor of the rebellion, and finding those two bodies outside his vault earlier in the season would suggest there's more to his story than we know, so I think these teenage survivors have him captive for reasons we'll learn about later.

As always this is a survivors game, we got Walker betraying her friends to protect Carla, Lukas discovering dangerous truths while trying to remain in Bernard's good graces, and Juliette fighting through injury and illness to get back to Silo 18 and find Solo, and of course, the million dollar question, was it justified for Quinn to erase history and drug the water supply? Did it save everyone, or did it just create a different prison?

I think if the episodes wasn't so dark it would be much better and people would like it since I read some reviews and they hatting on this series right now, its not a bad season but I get it since I also have complain about the pace and lighting in the past, the series always keep me interested into knowing more about the Silo creation and its funny how they have distracted me from this questions with drama and confrontation, very sleek of the writers. I felt the season moves the pieces into place for what looks to be an explosive finale showing how the past continues to affect the present and leaves us wondering if any of these characters can ever really escape the rigged game they are playing, and if so who created the game? is this a fkn big Squid Game type of situation? wtf

  3. Silo (2023): The Dive – S02E07 – RECAP@skiptvads538d

    Source

Episode 7 of Silo Season 2 was everything I expected, with Solo demanding almost having Juliette trapped to turn on the water pump eight floors under water, and this was exactly what we needed at this point in the story, an episode full of tension that kept those high dopamine levels from start to finish, the kind of episode that makes you remember why this series was so good on first season and in my opinion it deserves a solid 8/10. On this episode we have action from all fronts, from Bernard and Sims now going at each other on a power hunger war but Bernard seem to have the upper hand for now, he always think he is one step ahead of everyone specially now that Lukas is making progress with Quinn secret code, I'm still not to clear on what this mean but I guess Quinn either knew why and who created the Silo or either was on the same ball park of Meadows trying to go out and be free, not sure.

    Source

We know there is a Vault on Silo 17 that we haven't seen but this time we shown the vault on Silo 18, a secret room with a sci fi aesthetic compared to the rest of the silo, which includes digital tablets with what seems some sort of AI, all kind of preserved books, art pieces that paint a picture of humanity's past, before Bernard drops the bomb that the silo is over 350 years old on Lukas, but he literally knows nothing before that reason that makes Salvador Quinn's mysterious code all the more intriguing. Down in Mechanical they're cooking up something big that will shake things up in the Silo where they will stretch their arms letting everyone else on the Silo why they are Mechanical, the best engineers are down there and are brilliant minds kept in the dark.

The best part of episode 7 is how they show us multiple story lines without losing a grip on any of them or felt that it was just too short and rush, there is the political chess game happening in Silo 18 where Mechanical demonstrates that they’re not just a group of grease monkeys by launching their brilliant propaganda attack on a fkn rocket that throws out hundreds of notes with messages trying to expose IT’s lies and then cutting the power to reveal that IT somehow manages to keep their lights on while everyone else is in darkness, it’s a brilliant move that has Bernard scrambling to maintain control and he did because of his slick skills to manipulates others where he explain this by saying Mechanical can control each floor and left only IT online to put everyone against him.

    Source
    Source

This confrontation between Mechanical and IT shows the psychological tension of Bernard trying to hold onto power, questioning Carla about the gunpowder and confronting Judge Sims about his loyalty and on the other hand we have the physical tension of Juliette's underwater mission in Silo 17, both story lines keep you wondering what is going to happen next but in completely different ways.

As a secondary level there is whats going on down at Mechanical where they know there is a rat who got their food poison and now there are rumors of a plan to kill Knox and Shirley, finally they figure out things and find out it was a women May, the cafeteria worker that was forced into poisoning food by Judicial, in a different way than their revenge would have been, choosing to show compassion with her and promise to protect her mother who is upstairs and keep her in the fold even after she betrayed them, moments like that help flesh out the conflict and there is no question who actually has the moral high ground here, may be I'm bias and got no idea what is to be under this kind of situation but I bet if IT decides to talk with Mechanical they would listen but there is still the question if humans are on Silo's because they have to due to outside conditions or because someone wants to keep them on Silos for some other specific reason, probably the second is where someone like Bernard comes in to keep the grip of power.

    Source
    Source

Something I can't ignore is the underwater scenes in Silo 17, the are nothing short of impressive, yes there might be a lot of CGI with AI into it but still, their ability to recreate the claustrophobic feel of being surrounded by dark water and trying to fix things levels below was basically making me constantly think how Juliette was not going to make it out, the sound in particular is noteworthy during these scenes, the constant dripping of water and the echo of metal all contribute to an air of huge tension, probably my favorite scene of this episode.

Even though the end of the episode is a big cliff hanger, with three more episodes to go its probably perfect their big reveal about Silo 17 not been just Juliette and Solo, rather than going for a cheap shock moment, they built it up through Juliette's dive sequence, starting with the cut rope, then the loss of oxygen, then finding blood and that axe on the floor, you can't help but wonder if Solo has been hiding something much, much darker about Silo 17 all this time, either he has a double personality situation that he might because all the time he was locked up, there are others in there with him that he didn't know about or he did and they were just trying to trick Juliette into helping him, so what is the real reason the episode ends with blood in the floor and Solo missing in action?.

There is also Bernard potentially using Walker and Carla’s relationship against the rest of mechanical and Lukas getting closer to solving Quinn’s code using The Wizard of Oz book, book that Meadows had and Bernard kept with him after he murder her and it feels like all these separate threads are about to come together in a big way. Episode 7 does a lot to the story and manage to keep it moving at the same time increasing the pace and generating this constant tension with every plot thread on both Silo so its not just Silo 18 anymore, at Silo 17 things are starting to get very interesting too. With just three episodes to go I doubt Juliette is going to make to Silo 18 before the season ends, it would feel too easy and rush, I would prefer to let things escalate on Silo 18 before she comes back, I’m excited to see how things play out from here.

  4. Silo: Barricades - S02E06 - RECAP@skiptvads542d

    Source

Episode 6 is what we have been waiting for all this time, to pick up the pace and I've been waiting for season 2 to get here, even though there are still some things that could have been handled better, the story moves along with some real momentum. This episode is all about the increasing tension between Bernard's authority and the rebellion raising up on the mechanical levels, as the "Down Deep" people rise up against the oppressive measures being used to keep them in line, in such close space this feel even worst, the isolation increments and feels more like punishment rather than trying to keep control.

    Source

Key strategic move from Bernard happen, at level 130 raiders set up a barricade to stop the mechanical levels from receiving food by controlling levels that have close access to farms. Bernard watches from his security screens as his plan goes as expected and he believes that only nine missed meals stand between order and anarchy, a psychology study of some sort that actually got me thinking about so I look it up, Alfred Henry Lewis in 1896 made this concept public and its true, once shelf are empty is a matter of time before madness. Things got worst for Bernard when Mechanical find their food poisoned and the people start to get worry by the hour, turning this situation in the perfect setup for what turns into a game of cat and mouse between the rebels and Bernard’s raiders. I have mention before how the season have so many thread plots that might be confusing and boring because it feels under develop, this time it shows Knox and Shirley as leaders, we already know how brilliant they are just as Juliette so they look into a more practical and smart solution to get rid of the barricade without going into direct confrontation at first.

Through season 2 production has not disappoint and shows more of the mechanical levels, this are particularly interesting to me because of how they capture the claustrophobic atmosphere, specially how clear is that there is no where to go once you get to the flooded area where the massive digging machine is, so you would expect why Bernard not send his raiders down their and keep everyone locked up, most likely because they are out number and dealing with the lower levels is not easy at all, they for sure are less passive that others on top, less social. Clear example is how they were dealing with the barricade situation to the point that they were ready to die on the spot.

    Source
    Source

This episode truly shines in focusing on the rebellion story line and how the mechanical level residents are not just fighting against authority in the silo but are using their engineering technical to their advantage, executing their plan to take control of levels beyond level 122, so they can keep food on the table of the lower levels and keep them on their good side. Episode 6 touch on in an interesting story as we discover more about his supposed illness, The Syndrome, and how it might be linked to the control system of the Silo, or not just control but stress and the fact that they are always on lock down, its a Silo, it comes to attention when Billings wife notes his tremors fade even when he hasn't taken his medication. Billings is the one that is going to push all the way he needs to figure out what happen with Judge Meadows as he is starting to find some inconsistency in others reports and even rebels to Bernard's orders as he, Billings does follow the Pact rather than Bernard who only use it on his best interest.

Juliette’s scene at the very end is the weakest part of the episode to be hones, I would understand they wanted to give more screen time to Silo 18, but Juliette is still the reason why all this is happening, there is this brief cutaway to her waking up while Solo take care of her feels a bit unnecessary and breaks kinda pause what was going on on Silo 18, I know its a breather for the episode to eventually build up more tension but if its not relevant probably just don't or let it all happen at the end as a cliffhanger, also this could have been a scene saved for the next episode.

    Source
    Source

Episode 6 ends with lots of threads that need to be solved, but the most important is when Bernard loses Sheriff Billings support something he never expected and was key for his plan, a huge blow to his authority, Bernard's careful planning begins to fall apart. It's neat to see Billings finally stand up and say he will investigate Judge Meadows death and that forces Bernard to cut radio communications throughout the silo to keep things from getting even worse, I think this time around it is not only about following the Pact but the fact that he is not feeling weak or less when ever his hands were shacking.

The only way to keep Mechanical under his oppression was to keep them away from level 122 but they make it to 120 as their new common ground with the raiders, with a cement saw cutting through each floor until a good amount of them make it to higher levels before they were tip off and couldn't sandwich the raiders, this would have been very bad for Bernard. Knox and Shirley's victory is even sweeter because of their shared moment and kiss, all of which illustrates how their relationship has grown throughout the rebellion.

As Bernard feels his plan might fail and now he is on survival mode he goes to visit Judge Meadows body, he try to apologize for his plans having to include her death, in his mind this was a necessary sacrifice as she always was falling away from the Pact. This scene doesn't make for his tyranny but also showing that he isn’t just a one dimensional villain trying to make things right, but he actually believes he is doing the right thing in order to keep things in order, at then end of the day he is a two face character with zero remorse, in my opinion this scene was specifically because he had some affection or even love for Meadows.

Now, the question becomes where is the show going? the revolution plot is a great one, but we're still missing the bigger part of the mystery, in my opinion if Silo 18 will suffer the same faith as Silo 17 once they all break "free. The season started with awesome flashbacks that aren't been develop, it is the case of why all this Silo exist, who made them and where is this power line that runs IT, coming from. We are not closer to understand what actually happened to the outside world or the connection between different silos, these bigger questions are left unanswered and the show is happy to stay on this path but not the audience who has been complaining a lot about it.

If I have to give a score I would say 7.5/10 is fair enough since it was entertaining but nothing impressive, but finally the season delivers on its promise to keep developing the story in meaningful ways, especially for the rebellion story. While I can't stand all that Juliette's story line that has gotten no where to getting sick and finding a helmet, and the fact that bigger mysteries aren't progressing, this episode proves that Silo can be great when it's all firing on all cylinders and the machine keeps moving, hopefully the remaining episodes can keep this momentum going and begin to answer some of those bigger questions we've been waiting to have answered since the series started, very similar to what just happen with Dune Prophecy Episode 6.

  5. Silo (2023): Descent – S02E05 – RECAP@skiptvads546d

    Source

Catching up with TV series I sat down again with Silo and Season 2 Episode 5 while Episode 6 air and we getting closer to the end of the season, while pacing is still as slow as ever compared to Season 1, the show is still building tension and revealing secrets in ways that keep me interested on keep watching even if not everyone is on board with where it’s taking the source material, especially book readers who seem to be shouting a lot about the differences made to the original source material, this is something at this point we should be use to, specially anyone who was there when the books and game adaptations kinda explode, I think this was with LOTR. My point is that the TV series is for entertaining not a direct port of the book to video so yes there is part of the story that has been modified for sure.

    Source

Its funny how you have been asking and waiting for something to happen but once it does realize its way more bigger that you have though, its the case of Sims on Episode 5, he gets home, as Bernard makes himself at home in Sims' kitchen and proceeds to swear him in as the new Judge right there while having some coffee, this shows once again that Bernard is a very calculated and cold person who will do anything to maintain control, follow the pact and the whole thing really showcases the way that Tim Robbins can be menacing without even having to raise his voice or threatening, big guy just gives you a good look and I don't want to imagine when the day comes and he has to throw some punches. Meanwhile over Silo 17, Juliette continues to struggle with Solo, his story is not straight up but this time it grows more and more complicated by the minute as she start to peal off across the inconsistencies in his story, culminating in one of the most intense performances I’ve seen from Steve Zahn in a while, when he completely loses it in response to being confronted about his true identity, he really look like a mad man when he snap and Rebecca Ferguson nail it at looking scared and independence instead of going at him.

Knox and Shirley continue to try to make their way back to Mechanical as the rebellion story line continues to grows too, with help from an unexpected source Camille; Sim's wife, who it seems has her own thoughts going on behind the scenes, she might still believe what is right and I doubt its about going out as Juliette rather than knowing the truth, this just adds to the complexity of the political situation of the silo that I find very interesting as we begin to see how even those closest to power might not be as loyal as they appear, I believe this is the part that got people bored but it is a close space series with a few who has the grip of power. I have to admit that Juliette being stuck in Silo 17 for so long has sort of muted other character stories, the series have done an interesting job of balancing multiple story lines, it's like they are trying to keep too many plates spinning at once and some are starting to wobble but somehow they still manage to keep me enough interested to want to see what happens next but once Juliette comes back probably on next season its going to be a power house with everyone together again.

    Source
    Source

The visual side of the series remains impressive as the Silo is so massive with all kind of tunnels and places to hide but eventually it is a close space, how it makes the confined spaces of the silo feel both claustrophobic and vast at the same time and the lighting and camera work in the scenes where Knox and Shirley make their escape by jumping into the void with their DIY harness and the cable they manage to drill down into the stairs, it felt great specially while watching on VR, its been a while but there are series that I watch only on VR to try to get as much out of the scenes and not bust about the drama, its the case of Silo although others like Dune I'm OK watching on my computer.

Episode 5 also gave more hints about the mysterious Salvador Quinn and the encoded message he was sending, something that the series have not gone deep into it but as Bernard has Lukas working on the hard drive that Juliette had, they going to unbury this secrets but its going to take some time as the hard drive is very beat up, it just looks like besides Juliette this other aspects are building towards something big, I’m curious how it all ties into the power source Solo mentioned and the external lines powering IT that Lukas found in the blueprints, so there is way much more that we haven't seen yet, in fact Silo has been renew by AppleTV+ for Season 3 and 4.

    Source
    Source

The episode ends things out with a few intense moments that will set up a lot of conflicts for the rest of the season, Juliette collapses from a badly infected wound on her arm, probably from when she retrieved the fireman's suit underwater in the previous episode, to find the missing helmet she desperately need. It's a dangerous situation for her because she's alone in Silo 17 with a unstable person as is Solo and she is completely vulnerable. Solo true identity is still unknown but so far the series has given out that he was probably very young when he got locked up, after his very explosive reaction to being accused of being the man in the photo that Juliette found with a different man named Solo and a woman named Tiny its the first time that he really snap. On the other side in Silo 18, Bernard tries in vain to keep Knox and Shirley from getting back to mechanical as they both are leaders of this section of the Silo but in a desperate escape they do get back, so the growing rebellion sparks up with this escape been a success and residents break through Raiders' barrier to so everything possible going bad for Bernard.

Things have started to boil up for Sims without even knowing because when Bernard learns Camille assisted Knox and Shirley in their escape that's going to be a pivotal time for Sims and lets see if he is really on the Pact side of just his personal interest. The episode ends with a good amount of cliffhangers include Juliette down, rebellion rising, Solo's identity in question and Bernard pursuing Quinn's secrets. While Juliette's story still moves at a much slower pace in Silo 17, the things in Silo 18 are pretty much reaching a boiling point so it might be a bit desperate to watch how Silo 18 situation has gone from 0 to 100 real quick while it does feel like Juliette has not done anything significant so far other than getting Solo to open the Vault but that's it.

Some may say the show is moving too slowly or moving too far away from the books, but I'm finding enough of a hook in how they are slowly drawing back the curtain on the mysteries of the Silo world and not only 17 and 18 rather than the rest, I have come to my theory that there are people out who intentionally keep all this Silos active either as an experiment or some sort of control because who keeps this external power source for IT going? the slow reveal of what really is in those other Silos is what keeps me going, so for me it has not been boring at all and I'm just going with the pace of the series. My personal rating for this episode is a 7.5/10, it’s not revolutionizing the sci fi television scene, but it’s keeping up a nice level of quality in the production and performances compared to Season 1 and story progression, I think the show is doing a good job of building its world and its mysteries in a manner that leaves you wanting to know more.

  6. Silo (2023): The Harmonium - S02E04 - RECAP@skiptvads555d

    Source

Episode 4 of Silo season 2 finally unfold the disaster that is when the lather of order and control starts to fall apart in a society underground that is build and kept on secrets, even gives us a hint of why the syndrome happens. In this episode titled "The Harmonium" we learn more about the power struggle between the Mechanical section and the upper floors, its Mechanical against everyone, always blame Mechanical, as well as the secrets from Solo's past in Silo 17 and the truth behind older rebellions that created their underground world.

The story moves between two main locations with Juliette and Solo continue working a way home in Silo 17, and Silo 18 where Bernard’s grip on power reaches its greatest test yet, funny enough by the hand of Judge Meadows. This contrast between the two scenarios is an interesting back and forward situation, one in which we find the isolation and mystery of abandoned halls of Silo 17 that has been dead even before Medadows became Bernard shadow, contrasted with the increasing chaos of the supposedly orderly society of Silo 18, one still full of life and the other just probably try to resuscitate with the little life still in it, been Solo.

    Source

We have seen the series trying to rely on flashbacks for the most time on season two and they did just that again although this time around its more interesting because its about things that we didn't know yet, for example Bernarnd and Meadows past relationship. We also learn through Knox's discovery of the wall of names in the Deep Down that rebellions have been a thing in Silo 18 every generation or so. This revelation makes for a more complex picture of the current conflict, not just an isolated uprising but a cycle that could have been going on for hundreds of years. The way in which this information is revealed through Knox and Shirley’s investigation all of the sudden open their eyes like no other rebellion in the past, this might be different this time around or they might just end up like Silo 17, all dead.

When it comes to this episode climax it has always been control and preservation of the Silo’s system , that is the reason Bernard decides to kill Meadows, this was the breaking point in their relationship, when Meadows told Bernard she wanted to leave the Silo, using the same heat tape method that helped Juliette live. Bernard had a romantic history with her, but as much as he couldn’t let her actions disrupt and corrupt the order he’s trying to establish, he felt there was no other choice, for me the poisoning during dinner was expected and very predictable but I still enjoy the scene very much.

One of the mayor triggers for her to be dealt with is that she knew about a coded letter from Salvador Quinn, the former Mayor during the rebellion 140 years ago, this episode gives us a more clear idea of how long the Silo has been running for and how many times a Mayor had to put down his foot and obey The Order. Whatever Meadows found in that letter she wouldn't tell Bernard; it was obvious whatever it was she knew it would be pointlessness against the rules and the system of the Silo, but she kept pushing Bernard's button to go out and I think for a couple of scenes he was trying just to buy some time, he didn't want to force his hand into taking care of her.

    Source
    Source

The murder was cold and calculated, Meadows was lured to dinner and there Bernard would giver her his Suit but just modified to fit her, but after all he said he had to obey the Order no matter what, so he poisoned her food. And his last act of mercy was to show her images from 2018 of a biological reserve in Costa Rica on a VR headset, letting her see the world that was lost.

Bernard didn’t just kill Meadows to shut her up, she became the perfect trap for Knox and Shirley from Mechanical, were used by him as part of his divide and conquer strategy, he used her death to frame them for her murder, always blame Mechanical. This one was a perfect way to start conflict between the upper levels and Mechanical, as all rebellions start in Mechanical. Bernard point these groups against one another in order to ensure no one unifies and kill whoever he once cared about or even himself who is in charge, he would probably let them kill each other for some time, waiting to emerge as the savior and peach keeper when the times come.

Back with Silo 18 neighbors, at Silo 17, with Juliette in the abandoned classroom, Solo's behavior raise some interesting questions as to his past, how he talks about a student named Lapis and then suddenly backtracks when Juliette points out the timeline inconsistency makes me think that there’s more to his story than we realize, he is lying about something, he is also reject to discuss his different colored eyes makes me wonder if he was much younger when whatever disaster struck Silo 17 occurred, would be a good explanation of his trauma and how he manage to stay alone for so long inside the Vault, probably when he was put in there he was so little he didn't know better and because something normal for him to stay lock down.

    Source
    Source

Knox's discovery in the Deep Down on Silo 18 reveals a pattern no one knew existed, but what he found wasn't just a memorial to the founders, but a record of those who died during many rebellions throughout the Silo's history, questions is why nobody knows about it, did the previous Mayor eradicate everyone and every memory of it?. But what is interesting is that these uprisings always seem to occur about every generation and Mechanical is always the root, center and front of it. Mayor Salvador Quinn was the last to document a rebellion but the wall means there could have been ten or more rebellions since the Silo was built in 2052. According to Knox's findings, the upper levels consistently use the same strategy "Always Blame Mechanical" turn the other levels on them and crush any hope of unity, probably because Mechanical is the heart of the Silo and the ones who are more unite as they risk their life every day to keep the Silo running. It makes sense because the flywheels give Mechanical the power to shut the whole Silo down, so both of them are powerful and a dangerous threat to those in control on the upper levels. And it's ironic that the Silo celebrates Freedom Day, as it turns out, is just a celebration of squashing one of these past rebellions which is really how deep the history manipulation goes in their underground society.

I'm giving this episode a 7.5/10 because it made a ton of progress on their current situation and the ton metric of context that it gives to the Silo history. The discovery of many rebellions suggest that this current conflict might be part of a larger pattern that holds the key to the truth of why these Silos exist at all, this episode has put several interesting parts to the story up float to follow. And the things building up toward something bigger, the increasing tension in Silo 18, Juliette's quest to return home before things go wild and 10k people die because she didn't clean and on top of all this the mysteries surrounding Solo's past. This episodes really spark my curiosity of where are all thins story lines leading to and to what extend will the conflict on Silo 18 will grow.

  7. Silo (2023): Solo - S02E03 - RECAP@skiptvads562d

    Source

After a very very slow start from the first two episodes, Silo Season 2 starts to take us down different paths, episode 3 finally brings everything together in a way that makes the story flow a lot better and gives us a good look at what's going on in Silo 17 and Silo 18 at the same time but now putting more focus on Silo 18, I have to say that this was a much better episode than I expected with more character development and interaction between them, and learning more about Solo, the man the myth inside the Vault of Silo 17, played by Steve Zahn, who turns out to be quite an interesting character with his own set of problems and fears.

    Rottentomatoes Rating

    Source

We see how the "Juliette Lives" message is causing problems in Silo 18 and the strong arm of the forces are going after Teddy, one of Juliette's old coworkers from mechanical, which sets up the tone for what is coming next as we see how Bernard and Judge Meadows try to deal with the situation from different angles, Bernard wants to follow protocol and make mechanical look like the bad guys while Meadows thinks this will only cause more problems and suggests blaming it on someone from the upper levels, which shows us that both of them have their own agenda and take different approaches to the same problem but want to avoid a full revolution.

Meanwhile we get to see Juliette trying to convince Solo to help her get back to her Silo, which proves to be harder than expected considering that Solo has been alone for so long he has now developed serious trust issues and fears, preventing him from even leaving his vault, but that doesn’t stop Juliette from trying to get home because she knows that her survival could cause problems in Silo 18 after what she have seen happen on 17, she now wants to stop it from happening, her been out is now her worst fear, and she’s not wrong about that because people are starting to question everything they know about the outside world.

    Source
The pace really picks up as we get more details about how Juliette survived outside thanks to some proper heat tape that Martha and Carla switched before she went out, a smart move that saved her life and now explains why she didn’t die like everyone else who goes outside, we don't know yet exactly why its so toxic out there that the moment it goes inside your suit you are done even though the suit has some air in it people also run out of it after a while, and also how Bernard is trying to use that to his advantage by claiming IT was developing new tape technology that will help them explore the outside world like it was their plan all this time.

We start to watch how the episode does a really nice job of balancing the serious political drama that’s currently happening in Silo 18 with Bernard, Meadows and the rest of the people in charge trying to keep control, and then we have the emotional moments with Solo and Juliette in Silo 17, it’s like watching two completely different shows that just happen to work perfectly together to create a more complex story that keeps you awake watching trying not to loose the thread from start to finish of the episode, this was a great episode.

It's clear that Judge Meadows wants to leave the Silo because she understands what's really going on in their underground world, she was part of IT before becoming a judge and worked closely with Bernard as his shadow so she knows all the secrets about the Silos and the outside world and this knowledge has been eating away at her for years but to tame this feeling down she turned to drinking to cope with it all, in her apartment she keeps what they call red relics, items from before the last rebellion that might give people dangerous ideas about the outside world, like a Frisbee, a kite and even a projector she uses to watch videos of people living normal lives outside, on beaches and riding horses, these items and videos show us how much this feeling of living a different live outside is eating her up from the inside, watching these videos alone in her room and crying tells us everything we need to know about how she feels about their current situation, its Juliette's survival that has given her hope and courage to finally try and leave and even make a deal with Bernard in return for helping him control the rebellion so she can get out.

    Source
    Source

Regarding Solo’s role in Silo 17, it seems quite different from Bernard’s position, but both were in IT, Solo seems to have been more of a keeper of secrets rather than a leader makes you think was he like Meadows who then saw the opportunity to jump ship from IT into Judicial?, he was told to protect the vault and never let anyone inside, which makes him sound more like a guardian than a decision maker, the fact that there are newer dead bodies outside his vault indicates that people have tried to get in over the years, probably sent by other Silos to kill any survivors after the mass exodus from Silo 17, this explains why he’s so paranoid and defensive when he first meets Juliette, it looks like he can’t tell what’s real and what’s not, and we see as he admits that he gave Juliette food just to prove to himself that she was actually there and not his imagination, his story about Ron Tucker and how everyone in his Silo left after seeing him survive outside shows us that he has actually seen what can happen when people learn the truth about their world, everything is one single crazy crazy reality.

The episode comes to a close with several intense moments happening at once across both Silos, in Silo 18 we see how the situation with Teddy's arrest leads to a violent confrontation between the rebels and security forces where Cooper dies trying to stop someone who threw a firebomb during the protest, this death brings both Knox and Shirley together as they realize they both want the same thing. Judge Meadows watches old videos of people playing on beaches and riding horses and she cries because she wants to leave so badly, but the most impactful moment is in Silo 17 where we see Solo finally come out of his vault after so many years alone to stop Juliette from going into the flooded area alone, its one scene after another that start to bombard your mind blowing the roof top after each other. Again Solo asks Juliette if she's real and she confirms it, this is exactly what happens after so much time in isolation, you don't even trust your own mind for someone who's been alone for so long he's started to doubt what's real and what's not, the scene ends with both of them sitting together while Solo tries to calm down after taking those first steps out of his vault, showing how small steps can turn into a lot of progress when dealing with trauma and isolation.

It’s obvious that both Silo 18 is in for some big changes, potentially facing rebellion and Silo 17 potentially getting two survivors instead of one if Juliette can convince Solo to go with her, reminds me of when Walker had this fear to go outside her room, the show is certainly picking up the pace and setting up what seems to be an exciting second half of the season. Episode 3 is an 8 out of 10, solid improvement from previous episode and it moves the story forward in a good way, keeps everything interesting and engaging with character interactions and right balance between the two Silos’ story lines.

  8. Silo (2023): Order – S02E02 – RECAP@skiptvads570d

    Source

I loved season one but this new season is far from having the same impact, how much time we are spending looking back rather than looking forward, because the episode picks up right where we left off, with Bernard rushing to the server room after witnessing Juliette’s successful escape from Silo 18, and this episode is entirely about showing us what happens inside the silo immediately after she makes it out, and while it’s important to understand the consequences of her actions, I feel we could be exploring more interesting aspects of this world, such as how these silos came to be in the first place.

In the episode "Order," Bernard played by Tim Robbins struggles to maintain order after Juliette got out and this caused chaos among the people that remain inside, and while Robbin gives a solid performance as Bernard, desperate to make sense of it all, he consults what appears to be a series of instructions in a mysterious book called "The Order" that includes advice on what to do if a cleaning fails, prepare for war, it's fascinating to see how Bernard manipulates the situation, building up a story about experimental tape in Juliette's suit allowing her to survive, but at the same time it feels more like we are trying to stay afloat than diving into the mysteries of this world, well this is probably me be too anxious and dramatic about it.

    Source

We spend a lot of time with the growing tension between different factions in the Silo, especially in the down deep where Shirley, starts gathering supporters for what seems to be an unstoppable rebellion and we get more of Judge Meadows, who apparently has a shared history with Bernard and seems to have her own agenda, wanting to go outside herself, I always thought she was loosing faith in the Silo administration and their ways to manage everything within keeping the population in the shadows of what is really or what has become of the Silo, they kept hiding the truth and Medows seem to loose faith on the system, although everything that is going on on Silo 18 now feels flat because Juliette is not there to spice things up.

The production design is still impressive, the cramped corridors and factory like aesthetic of the Silo making a perfect setting for the rising tension, the kinda of steam punk style with dark and orange like scenes makes it very impressive but its hard to watch if its not on 4k due to all the very dark scenes. The way the episode is shot, particularly in the server room sequences where Bernard watches Juliette's helmet cam footage, effectively communicates the isolation and control that the system they have created has over the Silo's population, and the graffiti showing "JL" (Juliette Lives) appearing throughout the Silo is a powerful emblem of resistance, even though it feels like we've seen similar rebellion story lines before.

    Source
    Source

This episode really nails the idea of control through information, Bernard's manipulation of the truth about the tape, the mysterious book of rules he consults, and the way he plants people in the crowd to help sell his lies, all paint a picture of a very carefully constructed system of control probably develop over many many years before the Silo was even constructed; Walker and Carla's detention and later on release is also a great example of how the leadership maintains its grip by showing off their force and mercy, both sides of the coin depending on what suits them better at the moment, though I wish we were getting more answers about why this system exists, rather than just watching it in action, anxiety spikes.

Episode 2 ends with many interesting threads to develop the rest of the season, including Bernard’s control of the situation, for now, through his carefully crafted tale of experimental tape, but we have already seen the seeds of rebellion being sewn throughout the Silo, most notably by the JL graffiti, which means “Juliette Lives,” found on the walls of multiple levels.

The revelation that Judge Meadows wanted to go outside is another level of complication to the ending; here's someone who was once Bernard's shadow, who knows more of the silo's secrets than most, who has been inspired by Juliette's success and has stopped drinking after 25 years, as if seeing someone actually survive the cleaning has woken something up in her that has been asleep all these years, they don't know for sure or fact that Juliette survive but at least she was gone from where everyone was suppose to die.

    Source
    Source

The ending is so powerful too or lets say has powerful cliff hangers because it opens up the potential for history to repeat itself, Bernard mentions a rebellion 140 years ago that leadership was able to squelch, but with Juliette’s successful escape and survival, the stakes are different, the people have witnessed the outside world not necessarily be what they’ve been led to believe, and perhaps more importantly, they’ve seen that survival is possible. Will Silo 18 go the way of Silo 17? Will Bernard be able to keep a handle on things by manipulation and judiciously planted supporters or will the truth about the tape and the outside world spread too fast? Will Judge Meadows be leading the fight, and if so whose side will she be on? Most importantly, how will Juliette's continued absence affect those who believe in her?

It definitely sets up a number of story lines for the rest of season 2 that can all explode into conflict at any moment, for me this episode is another 7/10, which is the same as the previous one, it has the same high production values and strong performances that we’ve come to expect from Silo, but it feels like the show is taking too long to get to the plot, and Juliette’s absence is definitely felt in the story side of Silo 18, as her character’s drive and determination were what gave the first season its compelling quality, I hope that the next episodes will speed up and start giving us some answers as to how the hell the core situation happen, and not continue to focus on the aftermath of what we have already seen, open the picture and get to the reason why all this Silo exist. There is a lot of potential but I do feel we have almost been running in circles on the first two episodes, yes I know this might be just me wanting to rush things but probably this is based on how good the first season was.

  9. Silo (2023): The Enginieer – S02E01 – RECAP@skiptvads575d

    Source

Episode 1 of Silo Season 2 takes us right back where we left off with Juliette after that jaw dropping ending of Season 1 where we find out there was more than one silo dotted all over the place. The Engineer is the name of the first episode, probably in reference to Juliette life on how she started her engineering career, we also see Juliette enter one of these enigmatic neighboring Silo, there are many, each with what seems an entire population at the end with similar struggle and while it does offer some nice revelations, it spends far too much time going in circles on things we already know or probably suspect, things that are too evident. On the more positive side show doesn’t waste a second jumping in to the action, since the ending of Season 1 the main question was Who is out there?. T starting with a fascinating look into this new silo’s past, including a rebellion that actually opened the doors to the outside world a similar situation to what was starting at Juliette original Silo, to an extend they were not lying its not safe out there and she have finally seen it, an entire revolution died on the toxic environment.

    Rottentomatoes Rating
    Source

The episode begins with Juliette as a kid when she started at the recycling ribbon, side by side the "second" Silo in fact Silo number 17 pops up with a scene where a sheriff gets a message about flooding the generator in 15 minutes, big fight between the rebels and the administration of the Silo that ended in everyone going out as they demand freedom only to find out how toxic was outside killing everyone who dare to go up the stairs. The dangerous atmosphere is set up as Juliette makes her way through this decaying structure, which is basically a mirror image of her own home Silo, its like she is been witness of what happens when people without knowing wants out of the Silo, this place has fallen into disrepair over time is really something that really sells the story, with flooding in the lower levels and corpses scattered everywhere acting as silent witness. Even though this are very dark scenes that most people wont enjoy watching in 1080p, I have to mention that the production design team for building such a believable almost holocaust environment, abandoned space that speaks to its own story through the visual details alone.

The thing that really got my attention was how the environment of the episode builds tension by creating the abandoned Silo as a character itself, its how on this episode is Juliette vs the abandoned Silo, all the destruction and flooding she has on her way to first safe her life and second make this her temporary or even permanent home, she knows she cant go out there. The episode is particularly effective to show how Juliette now has to constantly fight to survive, from the moment she is outside and start feeling the harsh environment having to watch the thousands of dead people who for some reason keep coming out of the Silo, if you are at the door and watching others die or have a hard time then why not going back?. There is also other factors that describe how hard it was for her to survive like the moment she had to break her helmet to keep breathing, well that right there says you are not going back out again, although she might find the same gear inside Silo 17, the entire episode is a hole combination of obstacles that just want to kill her one after another.

    Source
    Source

I love how the show still builds its world, and that these Silos were all exact copies of each other, the same social structure, same security measures, but I was frustrated by the time spent with Juliette’s early days in mechanical and her relationship with Walker, this is old news for anyone who saw season one. These scenes don’t really bring anything new to the table with how we already knew of her character from Season 1, and that time could have been used to explore the history of this new Silo and its failed rebellion. While the flashbacks do help to bring back Juliette’s resiliency and adaptability, but they feel a little redundant, during most of the episode I was constantly asking "when to the point??".

The episodes becomes interesting when Juliette tries to cross a broken walkway, first trying to use old ropes that I knew were going to snap, having her falling into the void but lucky the Silo is heavily flooded and not just the generator chamber, it goes all the way up to very high levels.

    Source
    Source

The ending features an interesting new character we hear but don’t see, who plays the song "Moon River" on repeat behind a locked door, at first it was not certain if she was alone, there is this interesting dynamic created now between Juliette and a man behind a door she can't open, this mysterious men threatening to kill Juliette next time she tries to break in, who has a connection to the past rebellion of the Silo. The blue eye and his very looking unstable mental state, suggest some exposure to whatever is really going on outside, turns the ending into a big cliff hanger, the ones that make you think "really you lost all that time telling the same story again?".

While it doesn't advance the story as much I'd have hoped, this episode is a good foundation to look at the bigger picture and what to expect during season two, the fact that there have been successful rebellions before and that they inevitably fail because the outside world is something no one was prepared for, only makes Juliette choice to be free plausible but without any rewards since they can't survive the outside world, at least not without her head inside a helmet, I’m curious to see how she’ll use this knowledge moving forward.

I’m giving this episode a 7.5/10, it’s good but it plays it a bit too safe with familiar character development rather than going in deeper into the new mysteries it introduces. While Rebecca Ferguson playing Juliette still puts in a strong performance and the production values are still very high, the episode spends too much time firing off things that we already know about Juliette rather than moving the story along. Although the groundwork laid here hints at great revelations ahead?, that Juliette Silo they were not necessary at that point but with what she now knows about the outside she might try to come back and stop them before it is too late, especially when it comes to the mysterious survivor and the nature of the rebellion that ultimately brought this Silo down, I still say we are in for an interesting season.

    Silo : The Relic - Season 1 - Episode 6 - RECAP INTRODUCTION - www.skiptvads.blog
Episode 6 of The Silo, Season One, reveals the Silo Monitor Center, Jules has a very different perspective from the Silo than many of the people living in it, since she met George she got sucked into this conspiracy that George was trying to unveil but unfortunately for both he ran out of time after he was found dead, allegedly he either jump from one of the stairs rails or someone pushes him; Jules lost interest on the conspiracy theory, the conspiracy has been proven to get you killed after George died and Holston was sent out to clean, but she did step in as a Sheriff initially with the intentions to find out what really happened to George not because Holston ask her too or because it was the right thing to do, serve when duty calls, it was mainly to figure out who killed George but recent events like the death of the Mayor and Deputy Marnes have actually put work on her hands and a motive to be a real Sheriff trying to find out if this conspiracy George was obsessed to reveal also killed this two characters that now were so close to her, down the road this events also push Juliette away from persuing her first goal letting her to think its time to go back home and forget everything that happen but she has a great mentor in Martha who tells her to stay firm on her believes and finish what she started, the seek for the truth of George death and indirectly figure out if there is really something more than the Silo itself out there, it took Juliette a few minutes to put her shit together and move forward, she is after all a women with a very strong character and mind of her own who rarely let others influence on her believes but its hard not to when others are one or two step ahead, on this episode its confirm that everyone on the Silo is been watched both by video and audio, they can see you and listen to your conversations, they know what you did, where you at and what you said, this circuanstances will make you doubt and probably whats exactly what happen to Juliette, yes at first she was chocked by what Kathleen told he about George but she should probably trust more George if she really knew him and think that some things he did he had to do in order to move forward with his investigation, he was constantly walking out of the Silo Law line and probably could not be as straight forward as Kathleen or Juliette may wanted too, women more often than men are hardly impact on their decisions by love, it can even make Juliette doubt about her believes after all she is human, mixed feelings almost tip her over.

From all these DOOMS DAY TV series I think Silo gets very close to what will happen to the planet and the human race if things go south with the climate, humans might be forced to live underground, it really surprises me how on the series things like this candy dispenser, at least that's what it looks like, is banned, Judicial make it illegal for anyone to have something like it, there is a lot of truth on George words when he said: "why do they make it a risk to our lives to have them?", the answer to that question is that it sparks to more questions like from where did it come from, are there any more like it? when and why is it here? , these are questions that lead to the main question, why are we hiding on this Silo? because so far nobody mentions why they lived inside the Silo, the only thing close to a reason is that the "founders" knew better and put them there but who are the founders and why did they build the Silo, Curious George knew better and was working on answering this question, the big question.

That same little plastic ducky started an investigation and almost broke apart Juliette and Billings, even on the pact they had those things like this are the gateway to criminal activity but it's not the object the problem it's the questions that it raises among the people on the Silo, plus if we think about it there must be a lot of people that is not sane inside that enclosure, yes the Silo is very big and sometimes looks like a very small city on the inside it still a close environment.

In episode six we get to see Judge Meadows, the person who is "supposed" to be in charge of the Judicial department but in fact, it's very clear that its all an illusion, Robert Sims is clearly who dictates the tone of the conversation in the room, she clearly looks manipulated by Sims and also looks sick, wouldn't be strange that in the future she dies because she was slowly poison.

    Source

A living example of someone who probably almost got killed because of having or dealing with relics in the past and has now stopped caring about them is Patrick, he has the look of a guy who is trying to change his life, not the most honest man on the Silo probably but for sure looks afraid of having anything to do with relics as he explains how it destroy his life, he gave Juliette the only name he could, the only dealer he could rat out but in fact, it was because Judicial already knew about her, Juliette is looking for answers behind the plastic duck relic, answers that could lead her to the murder of the mayor but in fact takes her to a dark corner.

    Source

When Juliette took the Sheriff's job she did it for love, she wanted to figure out who killed George as she was so sure he didn't commit suicide, a recent event especially starting the investigation of where this relic came from, got her to almost change her mind, take in consideration she wanted to know because initially, George gave it to her so she knew anyone who got it after that probably got it from George, Julliete fix George watch because she truly loves him and makes her feel special but finding out that he used other people to continue his quest to unveil the answer to the big question got her think twice if he really love her or was she just part of his quest? Kathleen, the woman on the second picture, almost got Juliette doubt of George's true motives, Juliette almost quit and went back to mechanical.

    Source

The minute Juliette talk to Kathleen, Sims got notified, Sims brings Bernard (temporary mayor) to question her motives because they knew Kathleen hold some information that might raise the same questions George had about the Silo. Juliette manages to shake them off for the time but after a second visit to Kathleen, she gave Juliett a book that not even Sims knew about, a relic before the Silo, until now civilians don't know they are been watched including Juliette.

    Silo : The Relic - Season 1 - Episode 6 - RECAP CONCLUSION - www.skiptvads.blog

Silo is a great series, from episode one it got me hooked, on every episode we get more details about the conspiracy that the management of the Silo runs, and it's not regular management, its those behind the curtain moving the strings like Bernard and Sims, now when know how they are always a step ahead of everyone but Juliette is slick and will find her way out, it incredible how everything goes back to George, the relic she is investigating might take her to solve three murders but I think Sims is going to stop her, it's hard for Juliette to do her job when there is a monitoring center with multiple employees watching and listen to her. Episode six also shows Juliette's decision to find out who killed George and that she really loves him, sometimes you just have to believe in your judgment, even though Kathleen told her he probably used them both Juliette still went back to find out the truth because she loved George, it didn't matter if he used her, what matter is the moment she spend with him and what she felt when they were together, like when she fix the watch just because watching him happy make her feel the same, that's true love.

    Silo : The Janitor's Boy - Season 1 - Episode 5 - RECAP INTRODUCTION - www.skiptvads.blog
Episode 5 of Silo : The Janitor's Boy really tells how the administration, sheriffs and judicial have different interest and agendas for the Silo, for their people, for the structure and the future. The entire plot about the internal conspiracy from why they are really inside the Silo and if the outside is really safe or not is very interesting but every time they mention how they are confine to this space and how its an eternal circle of people been born and die inside the Silo without really seen the outside world, without experiencing what is to be free makes me sad and claustrophobic, the Silo does look big and when they go through the apartments looks like small corridors of a small city within the Silo so its very big although you can go from top to bottom in a single day as they have mention before so compare to been free outside and travel to any country or place you want makes a lot of difference, you are still limited to planet earth but its way more bigger and you get to meet different people every day, see the world, the landscapes, different cities, been free is just more than what they consider free on the Silo, besides they are not really free as George Wilkins thought and probably discover the reason why there is a conspiracy and why they are all tricked into thinking the outside is not safe and how the Silo population is manipulated by those in high hierarchy charges like judicial or the mayor.

On this episode we also know more about Robert Sims from judicial and his ambition, at the end he tells Trumbull how hard was life for him as a kid, as the Janitor Son, his father was a janitor who was proud of his job and how important it was for the Silo despite of what other said but Robert as a kid probably didn't think the same and grew up with that ambition of been important and have power to step over those who look him and his father over the shoulder, now as part of judicial he has got part of that power that he wanted but his ambition is bigger than that, Bernard is there to remind him he is in charge and not Robert, as an intern mayor, I think this intern position was all planed and we are soon to discover how they did it, there has to be a network of spies, mics and cameras around the Silo and probably secret passages, rooms and doors that aloud them to control and do things without people noticing.

It seems that the Mayor and Judicial always have plans to been steps ahead of the Silo sentiment, right now after the murder of the mayor and a sheriff people are scared to go out, kids to go to school, adults to go to work because they think a murder is loose out there and they could be next, after all there is not much room to run away, to prevent this chaos the mayor and judicial have come up with ideas to distract people, Sims idea (judicial) is to offer a holiday, Forgiveness Day although Bernard is more creative and came up with a celebration to commemorate Marnes and Ruth as an in love couple who were murder but the narrative is to talk about how great their last years together were, how much they love each other and on that day do things they "like" , for example having a race to the top in honor of Marnes, Robert disagree with the idea but Bernard idea generates a story, more than just giving a day off to the Silo and keep people thinking about a murder that is still out there, this two are going to clash in the future but Bernard is in charge, Robert cant step over him.

As the clever man Bernard is, he tries to guide Jules around Judicial, not for them to be friends but to keep her alive, Im sure he already knows why she took the Sheriff job and wants her to also stay distracted thinking she can solve George murder case but at the same time keeping her away from the truth that might involve either him or Sims, keeping here running in circles but Jules is too smart to fall on that game, she is going to become a problem for Bernard and Sims.

    Silo : The Janitor's Boy - Season 1 - Episode 5 - RECAP - www.skiptvads.blog

I would say that the first ten minutes of the episode was the interesting part where you have to analyze how Bernard, Robert and Jules think, how they react to each other, Paul Billings was there too but more like a compliance auditor since he knows so much the pact but the real talk and tension was between this all three, Bernard thinking he is the smart one on the room and have everyone figure out, Sims trying to step over Jules and Jules not giving a fuck about anyone and determine to discover what really happens with George.

This scene shows how Ruth and Marnes are buried together as a couple something that was just for married couples based on the pact but Bernard made an exception as the mayor, this was part of his plan for people to think about a couple in love and not about a couple with high hierarchy jobs murder, that was smart.

Jules gives a small speech that really reminds how sad is living within the Silo, how they are all trap without knowing why, how there a large population that knew Ruth as their only Mayor since they were born, this shows the monarchy and monopoly of politics within the Silo.

They are buried at a very low depth in a field of apple threes, everyone bites an apple an throw it at them because they will now serve as fertilizer for the apple threes and all those apples they bite are the seeds, the cycle of life and death within the Silo.

Its all about distractions, shining things and mirrors, but this time Jules caught it right, she front runs Judicial and got Patrick Kennedy under her custody without telling anyone else, few days after Ruth was murder Marnes visit Patrick as a suspect of his witch hunt and got his ass kicked, he was the last person to have an altercation with Marnes and now Judicial wants to incriminate him, Jules picked up that thought fast enough to safe his Patrick's live but also putting her own at risk, she was going after someone with way more power than her, Sims, who mention at the first scene of the episode how he was visit Marnes the night he died to convince him to make Paul Billings Sheriff so he could have inside man of his own. Jules takes Patrick and then stay around his apartment waiting for someone from Judicial to show up and she was right, Douglas Trumbull a man who was mislead by Sims under the impression he was a candidate to be Sims shadow, he was doing the dirty work for Sims and when Jules caught him in the act of planting false evidence on Patrick's apartment there was a chase that ends on him pushing Jules over the stairs railing where she almost fall, same as George died, it was an intense scene.

After Douglas failed to plant false evidence on Patrick's apartment, got discovered by Jules and failed to murder her after he got caught, it was evident that he was a threat to Sims, its here where Sims shows how drunk with power he is and his complex of been the Janitor's Boy, he gives Douglas a pep talk about how hard was for him to be the Janitor's Son and how after all the limitations he got to the point he is, even tells Douglas that he is going to be his shadow, the man smiles at Sims of happiness because it but Sims throws him to the bottom of the Silo, this shows how twisted and sick Sims is and he will anything to stay in his position of power, but I'm sure there is more to it, how he kills a man publicly and gets away wit it, there must be an insurance system that lets him manipulate the stories.

    Silo : The Janitor's Boy - Season 1 - Episode 5 - RECAP CONCLUSION - www.skiptvads.blog

I got to say I really enjoy Episode 5 of the Silo: The Janitor's Boy, there was a lot of suspense and the action scenes were intense, on this Episode Sims starts to become an important character of the story, I remember how I mention this before, we start to see how Bernard and Sims are the ones really in charge of the Silo, from the first two episodes when Bernard was introduce he look like a robot, never thought he could be so sleek, sharp and manipulative, how he came up with the story of Ruth and Marnes been in love to change the narrative around the Silo, Sims show his true colors manipulating Paul, Douglas and telling Jules straight to her face how he is going to work to get rid of her and send her back to mechanical. I still don't know who killed Ruth and Marnes, going to watch the episode again if cant figure out then probably on the next episode they will figure out the murder.

  12. Silo | Serie Review [En-Es]@jcrodriguez1077d

Every now and then a science fiction series is released that aspires to be successful and become an audience favorite. Some live up to expectations, others don't. Is Silo worth watching? Read on.

Cada cierto tiempo se estrena una serie de ciencia ficción que aspira a tener éxito y convertirse en una de las favoritas del público. Algunas cumplen las expectativas, otras no. ¿Merece la pena ver Silo? Sigue leyendo.

The last sci-fi series I really liked was Raised by Wolves, unfortunately it only had two seasons, being cancelled due to low ratings. It was a very good series, with weak points, but the positive aspects were greater. Its universe was promising.

That's why, when Silo premiered, I hesitated to start watching it. I was encouraged by two things. First, the presence behind the project of Graham Yost, with a long career in film and television, at least I was sure that the final result could be entertaining. Second was the good cast. Tim Robbns, Will Patton, David Oyelowo, Rashida Jones and Rebecca Ferguson. All of that influenced me to start watching it, despite the danger of leaving the story unfinished. Now that fear has been overcome, and it has been confirmed that there will be a second season.

Some of the cast is fairly well known, although not all of them will be around for the entire season. I liked that they have resorted to actors and actresses with a track record for some important roles, regardless of their destiny, because the one who will carry the reins of the story is Rebecca Ferguson, who is gradually establishing herself as a woman of action. At almost forty years old, she is more beautiful than ever and the last two years have been great for her career.

It should be added that Ferguson is quite involved in the series, as she is one of the producers. It is an adaptation of the books written by Hugh Howey: Wool, Shitf and Vestiges. These three books make up The Silo Collection. I have not read them, at the end of the season, I am still hesitating if while waiting for the next season, I read them to know what happens, besides the respective comparison. I don't know what I will do, because I have other pending readings.

I'm quite picky about sci-fi stories, dystopian futures, etc, maybe because so many productions are released that end up being a fiasco for me. Adaptations of books for teenagers was the recent fashion, attempts to create juvenile sagas to put out productions as if they were a doughnut factory. I don't know to what extent the story varies from the books, maybe it was conceived as a juvenile saga, at least in the series the characters are adults.

Estos tres libros componen The Silo Collection.

In my top of the best series of all time, there is a science fiction series that I am very fond of, it is the remake of Battlestar Galactica premiered in the 2000s. It had a lot of space soap opera, but there were so many socio-political issues dealt with in its plot, plus a solid cast, that made it an unforgettable series. I had to wait a long time, until the premiere of The Expanse, for another sci-fi series to move me as much as that one and join my personal list of the best.

Does the Silo series measure up to those other series? An honest answer, based on my preferences is a resounding No. But I must say that the adapted universe I have seen in the season is extremely interesting, the series is entertaining, which for me is very valuable in these times of algorithmic productions that have no soul.

Before I go on with all the positives and negatives of the series, I'll explain what it's about with my own synopsis:

The world as we know it no longer exists. Something happened to the planet that has made it uninhabitable. After that great tragedy that has not been shown, the surviving humans live in a subway fortress, a gigantic Silo with a political regime of strict rules. Most of the inhabitants know only the Silo, all relics of pre-catastrophe Earth are forbidden. The tranquility is disturbed when Sheriff Holston asks to go out into the outside world, something anyone can do, but knowing he will die. People are left watching everything through a screen and other parts of the Silo only hear when the exit takes place. Alison, the Sheriff's wife had done it some time before, apparently she discovered something along with computer scientist George Wilkins. She was undergoing treatment to become pregnant, but it seems that those who rule the Silo are hiding something. The expert mechanic Juliette Nichols, who has a love affair with George (who will be murdered), will be involved in the whole mess, being chosen by Holston to be the new Sheriff. What are those in control of the Silo hiding? Is it all a lie? Why are they banning all the relics from the past? What is the problem with the pregnancies? Has the outer mute been destroyed? Is what you see on the screen real?

    Source

Silo has a very powerful beginning, in which questions are quickly raised. That will make us wonder what the hell is going on, and wonder who is really the villain of this story. The design of this subway universe, with the same political and economic problems that we live dragging for centuries, in this post-apocalyptic dystopian environment, is very attractive and can be exploited well.

The whole part of the sets, the design of the Silo, the use of ancient artifacts gives it a retro feel, which is justified in the story. The world collapsed and they had to rebuild civilization. So it is believable that they do not recognize certain dilapidated artifacts that we do know, but the characters, having grown up in the Silo, only know what they have been told.

History is written by the victors. It is something that remains latent as we move forward. That world of secrets and lies in which the majority is immersed, is strongly defended by the supreme power within the Silo. Even some who occupy a position of power within the implanted political system, completely oblivious to the truth, are also part of the lie without knowing it.

There is a lot of potential in the story, I don't know if this first season covers the whole first book or just a part of it. Also, the cast each fulfills their roles. It's a pleasure to watch Tim Robbis and Will Patton, two actors with long careers that I always enjoy whatever their character. Only the character Sims, played by Common, is the one I found annoying and I feel that more could have been made of his work and not limited to the bad guy who makes bad gestures.

As a negative point, because it is not a perfect series, I must mention the problem that I perceive in many productions. There are chapters, like the one about the mechanical turbine fix, that for me are filler, making the story drag on too long, wasting time with subplots that could easily be solved in a few minutes. That's what I perceive, I'm getting older and time is more valuable.

Silo presents us with a dystopian future that we want to know more about. Especially after the cliffhanger of the last episode. A good proposal for those who like science fiction and with Rebecca Ferguson guiding us through that subway world that seems to hide many secrets.

You can find it on Apple TV. Tell me your opinion in the comments.

    Silo : Truth - Season 1 - Episode 4 - RECAP INTRODUCTION - www.skiptvads.blog
Major Ruth has been murder, poison, they mention rat poison and that she was NOT the target. Jules gets involve in the case as a new Sheriff this is her first murder case officially, saying officially because she is after George murder too, Marnes is devastated by Major Ruth death but if Major Ruth was not the target and it was Marnes who from all the people he has pissed off in the past wants him death, if I have to take a quick guess is Robert Sims, remember how he wanted to put some one on Jules Sheriff position but Major Ruth intervene then the next vacancy would be Marnes because killing Jules could be hard to pull besides its too obvious.

After three episodes we already know enough about Jules, about her family, how she started her career on engineering and never came back to the upper floors of the Silo until now that she have been given the job of Sheriff, who is her father but on this episode its also mention how her brother dies and the impact it had on her family reducing it to she and her father only. On episode four I think concludes the story of Jules as a kid, how she stay on deep in the Silo shadowing engineers, starting from picking up scraps, repair them, all the way up in ranks to the point she was trusted with the Silo generator, its an interesting story and its like and episodes that holds up a lot of action for the next one, there is a lot of story from when she was a kid but also the start of an entire drama that is the conspiracy of Major Ruth accidental death because the real target was Manes, in the mean time Bernard is assign as temporary mayor but on whose side is him? also he and Jules have some story.

Marnes is totally broken by Major Ruth death, they were lovers but had to hide it to the public because of their roles in the Silo, he explains Bernard and Sims how when you walk the Silo people usually drink from each other bottles because its easier to reach from others back pack but Major Ruth bottle had a leak so he didn't drink any water from her bottle, raising the question was she the target? was she the only target? probably the murder didn't think about it and poison Marnes bottle only thinking he would drink from his own water bottle or was Major Ruth the real target? I already mention that I think Sims wanted Marnes Sheriff position open to give it to one of his own people, I always felt suspicious about Bernard and Sims, each with their own agenda within the Silo and probably know the truth about why and how all this people got into the Silo.

Since Marnes cant be rational at the moment Jules gets the case assign to her by Bernard acting as proxy Major, Marnes is pissed and has no hope on Jules but at least she can act rational and be proactive.

    Source

Its no secret that only Sheriff Holston wanted Juliette as a Sheriff and that was because he had other personal reasons and probably not because she was capable of pulling the job, she has everyone against her including Mandy who use to be Holston's assistant, but Jules knows how to be a real pain the ass so she pulls the I'm The Boss card on Mandy and get her to look for George's file, problem is that its no where to be found.

Jules have some big shoes to fill in and her first day at the job has been a nightmare, not only Major Ruth dies after putting Jules as the new Sheriff but she now has to baby sit Marnes who started his own witch hunt, he is not a popular guy around the Silo but people respect him although he got a few grudge here and there that got him his nose broken after insulting some ones wife to not get into unnecessary details, Marnes just went rouge and is getting peoples attention and hate making him a target again, before things go south for him Jules was able to explain him her relation with Holston how he was working on George case but she cant figure out where the case file is, all she knows is that the word Truth on Holston badge was the sign she was waiting for as the last time she saw Holston he said "when I find the truth I will send you a sign" that was the key worth Truth on the back of his badge so they agree to help each other.

Marnes has been constantly drinking since Major Ruth death, he cant help himself, after a visit from Sims he gets another visit but this time from and unknown uninvited guess whose mission is to kill him, if judicial aka Sims was the one who wanted him dead then now is the chance with him all drunk and not be able to fight back.

    Source

Jules got very lucky when she found George files inside an air vent on Holston apartment, he knew they were going to clean it up after he goes out to clean and "die" so he hide it inside an air duct, as we confirm on prev episode the Silo is govern by a conspiracy, the outside world is not what it seems from the inside but its hard to believe or prove it if you have never been outside and there is a pact with tons of restrictions to figure this out making it almost illegal to know more about it and that is the reason why George was murder, it would be very hard that he commit suicide, he was killed after finding something that he shouldn't and was about to tell Jules but it was too late when she arrive, Holston also find out the truth about the outside but why he haven't come back knocking on the door or probably he did but upper management wont reveal it, anything outside the Silo and how they got into the Silo is a mystery, soon all the characters will get involve into the conspiracy story and this story time episodes will be over.

    Silo : Truth - Season 1 - Episode 4 - CONCLUSION - www.skiptvads.blog

This episode at times felt boring but also like is setting up for something bigger now that we know the real target was Marnes and his killer accomplish the mission after the first attempt but ended up killing Major Ruth creating a bigger buzz around the Silo, so far it doesn't look that this mistake would change their plans, I'm sure soon Jules will become a target as she starts to get deeper into George case and discover the same thing got him killed, there is a lot of screen time dedicated to Jules story as when she was a kid and how she started on the scraps yard recycling Silo trask, looking for things to fix and send them back up, how she and her father never had a good relationship after her mother died pushing her to isolated into tech, fixing and repairing things, leading to going deep into the Silo and end in charge of the Silo generator.

    SILO : Machines - Season 1 Episode 3 RECAP INTRODUCTION - www.skiptvads.blog
Juliette has a lot on her plate now been offered the job as a Sheriff after Holston wanted her to be her successor and both dead Holston and George, to that add she may need to shut down the Silo generator for the first time in Silo history to repair it without room for failure or live in darkness.

On Episode 2 had enough of the Silo and decided to go out but before he took such a light decision he had two entire years after George died and Juliette show him everything George have discover so far, he must have discover the truth about the Silo but probably was a bit selfish at not telling anything to Juliette but after all going out its a one shot decision, all they see from the inside its what shown from a camera that IS controlled by the Silo, the outside looks doomed and everyone who goes out dies by the "poison", its a gamble that on this episode is revealed for a very brief time, Holston left behind a signal that Juliette understood and make her take the decision to take the Sheriff job but only after she becomes the first woman and engineer to shut down the generator for the first time in Silo history and get it repaired, she is going in basically blind folded without knowing whats wrong with generator and with very limited time before things go BOOM!!

Juliette is still grieving for George, on episode 2 she did try to reach the bottom of the cave where George mention there is a tunnel with a door at the end but the amount of water down there is massive besides who knows what is down there, water is life and all of the sudden there is some creature down there or the water could be toxic, water in the dark is very scary too and for someone who has never seen the ocean or even a full size Olympic pool imagine how hard it could be to take a big ass rope and go down about twenty meters to then jump into that massive amount of water, also consider that the rest of the excavator that was use to made the Silo is under water too so for all she knows she can dive into the water and hit the excavator right away all that and alone in the dark, she cant tell anyone else, if that information goes into the wrong hands Juliette can easily get killed.

She gets so drunk Shirley has to come to her place, its been two hours and she haven't reported yet but when Juliette was waking up and recovering the Silo started shaking, the generator has been having issues, big vibrations that can make it explode so they both run down to the machine room and see whats going on, after kicking and screaming, Juliette rule is no body else goes into the generator but her, they figure out the diagnostic was wrong, the vibration is getting worst and its on the opposite direction so they have to shut it down to repair it before its too late. Knox chief of engineering has to come up with a plan to do this, Juliette is pushing for this but soon will get all the backup she needed to make it happen.

Mayor Ruth and Deputy Marnes are heading down to the machine room to talk to Juliette and offer her the job of Sheriff, its a tradition to offer the job no matter what after a Sheriff retire or pass out and leaves a candidate behind, first they stop by IT to try to get more information about her and ask Bernard head of IT, Juliette and him had some history after she took some heat resistant tape without permission but basically thats all she has on her to call her a thief.

Bernard must be part of the conspiracy, as head of IT he most likely knows the image on the screen is hijacked, what they showing is not the truth about the outside conditions, it shows a doom land but its the total opposite, on episode two I thought Holston was hallucinating when he saw clear sky, plants and trees but on this episode part of the truth is reveal although seem no body pay attention for this quick blip on the system.

Mayor Ruth also stop by to talk with Julitte's father, Dr. Pete Nichols about her but as expected they don't talk that much, they haven't seen each other since she left to engendering when she was thirteen years old, since then not a word.

Finally Mayor Ruth and Deputy Marnes get to the machine room and explain everything is going in the upper part of the Silo to Juliette, Holston left her as his Sheriff candidate and no body wants her, not IT, not the judge, even if they ask her father that's a solid no, at first she even say no, it look like it was a done deal, she knows its more important for everyone for her to stay down there at least until the generator gets repaired but for some reason Mayor Ruth wants her to take the job, she didn't say it directly but at least thinks if Holston leave her as his successor has to be for a good reason and probably also wants to respect his last wish. Before they go back to the upper part of the Silo, Deputy Marnes gave Julitte Holston batch and that's when it kicks in, Hank saw something on the back of the batch that make Juliette change her mind, it said "Truth" but there is only one condition, she first has to repair the generator, after some back and forward with the Mayor it gets approve, no body likes it and its a big gamble. There are a lot of things that can go wrong, they got less than thirty minutes before the steam that moves the generator make the steam container blow up.

The picture above shows the screen in the cafeteria, with the generator ON and then when they shut it down to transition into backup power, for a quick second the true image goes on but people were so scare, they have never been in the dark that probably not many notice, if you really zoom in you can see that on the first imagine there is Holston body on the ground, dead, but on the second one there is nothing.

Nobody like that the Silo went into backup power but it seems Benard head of IT specially took it personal, but Juliette is now officially the new Sheriff in town, she took the job but only to keep working on finding the truth about the Silo and George death, Holston once told her he will send word when he finds something and him sending for her as Sheriff was that signal plus the word truth at the back of his batch, now Juliette knows there is more to why Holston decided to go out, for Holston it was a gamble but for Juliette its less, time will tell if she runs with same luck as George and someone attempt to kill her when she gets too close to the truth.

For some very strange reason Mayor Ruth dies after she goes back to her office with Deputy Marnes, I cant figure out how they killed her, for sure she didn't die because something was wrong with her, I never saw her eating anything during the episode she only drank water, probably her water was poison when lights went out, after all she was making some noise by not stooping to visit the judge and went directly to offer Juliette the Sheriff position against all the people she ask about Juliette.

    SILO : Machines - Season 1 Episode 3 CONCLUSION - www.skiptvads.blog

This was a great episode with a lot of action, Juliette put her life on the line to get the generator fix, she knew it was now or never plus there is much more for her to discover now that Holston has send for her after selecting her to replace him but things wont be easy, the entity or people behind the truth of the Silo will do anything to keep things like they are, keep tight control of the people and the Silo, they can also quickly end anyone life just look at what happen to Mayor Ruth, they just filed a Sheriff vacancy now there is one for Mayor and I think the next Mayor wont be Juliette's favorite.

  15. Silo : Holstons Pick - Episode 2 - Personal Thoughts@skiptvads1135d

    Source

Silo is turning to be a series full of details and I like it, all this relics that they call, it almost feels like this series comes out of a game with characters collecting clues of human history, both Sheriffs and the Mayor keep saying that they don't know when or who created the Silo, I find hard that living in a coffinite space for that amount of people no body knows this and essentially that is the reason why Holston and his wife died, they were both trying to prove they were trick into staying inside the Silo.

Silo is getting a lot of acceptance online, with a 8.4/10 that's a very high score on IMDB although it worry me a bit that when I open the review section there was no negative review, all reviews are positive and the lowest score was 7, I never fully trust this sites so I prefer to balance between IMDB and RTT then met half way and make conclusion of really how high or low can the score be but in this case might be irrelevant because the series is very good specially now that Rebecca Ferguson has come out playing the character of Julliet Nichols, an engineer who lost her boyfriend George Wilkins, everyone says he commit suicide but she knows he didnt, there was no reason to, George for over two years have been analyzing the data form an old hard drive Kathleen Billings help him to recover data from, once George told Julliet that what he is about to discover might get them killed just to have that knowledge.

    RTT: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/silo

    Source

The episodes starts with Sheriff Holston asking to go out, the only reason we know he wants to go out now is because he wants to be with his wife and now has the same doubts as her after he confiscate a hard drive from Julliet, same hard drive that George and Kathleen were looking at, the episode works on a reverse timeline where it shoes first Holston going out of the Silo to clean up the camera lenses and see the world form himself,  on this scene we have a large group of people cheering for Holston to clean up the camera lenses as he goes out.

    Source

After he goes out this is suppose to be how the outside looks but I have my doubts, Kathleen before going out told Holston that what appears on the screens an illusion to keep them inside so how created that illusion? is the Mayor aware? could the Silo been a big gigantic battery as in the Matrix or is it a source of food for those living on the surface? there are many theories I can come up with but there is a conspiracy, the outside was everything his wife told him it would be, but after he cleans the camera then he suffocates, those inside the Silo assume its a venom from the outside but Holston different than his wife and any other human that went outside takes off his helmet, I assume because he was running out of oxygen or there was something inside his suit, this suits they are giving to go out are very rudimentary and doesn't look like it would protect them properly, I think that there is no venom outside, I think they are poison before they go out, the Mayor or someone in charge puts something on their oxygen tank they have on their backs, one of the workers when hanging out at the cafeteria mention all those who go out die about three minutes latter, so how does the poison gets inside his helmet? is it because it was already on his oxygen tank or the suit is not hermetic?

    Source

Inside the Silo doesn't seem to be too many guards or lets say police men, when Holston die they are one sheriff less and I cant believe this creates chaos but it seems it does, Deputy Brooks is send out to assist the citizens causing problems until they are interrupt by Sims, played by Common, that's the only time we see him on the episode and I have no clue who he is, does he works with the Mayor? are they some kind of civil guards? mafia? got no idea, the fact is that when he arrives everyone makes silence and he ask his two body guards to get the names of the ones causing problems then they left.

    Source

When Holston died Juliette scream "HE LIED" , Juliette goes to what looks a local repair shop to "work" on things that need repair but she doesn't, she just want to vent out, this is Martha Walker's shop, she knows Juliette since she was very little so told her to start talking.

The episode rewind and go back to the last time Juliette and George talk, he told her that something big happen but cant tell her because there was too many people, they were at the cafeteria, decided to meet latter at her place but he never appear, he just left a note saying "I found what I was looking for", the next day at the cafeteria one of her co workers Cooper tell her the news, George jump out the corridor falling into the stairs instantly died, George suicide. Juliette knew that was not true, she suspects someone kill him so ask for the help of Deputy Hank who then ask Sheriff Holston to review the case, that's when Juliette meet Holston on episode one, after talking about how she was related to George and the note he left she tells Holston she may now why he was killed and there is something she wants to show him, Holston.

    Source

Juliette takes Holston to this hidden area that has a huge excavator, they suspect was use to dig to build the Silo, she believes the Mayor knows about it but never talk, this cave is hidden from the Silo, they access it through a hole in a wall on the most deep side of the Silo, they go straight down to the bottom of the cave, part of it is full of water and George had a bed with lots of things he have found, most are what they call relics, basically vintage stuff that most are illegal but the reason they are illegal is because it might reveal the true story before the Silo was created, the Silo its a big conspiracy that the government inside is trying to keep as a secret keeping people ignorant about the subject.

    Source

Hidden under water they found a bag with probably George's most precious findings, inside there was a hard drive and its here where Juliette finds out Holston knew George because Alison his wife was working with him and Holston knew everything about it but he is a man of the law, this time he decided to bend the law and keeps the hard drive, telling Juliette he would help her find out how George died for real, she scream HE LIED! because he tool the hard drive and never really help her investigate George murder, he took the information for himself and then goes out that's why I think she said he lied.

    Source

What Juliette didn't know is that Holston nominate Juliette as her successor, probably he left all the information he found hidden on this apartment for her to have it but that was stupid, the Mayor would never make Juliette sheriff, although the Mayor wants to meet her and a sheriff will clean up Holston place, question is if who that sheriff is and will he find Holston treasure bag?

    Source

The episode jumps back in time again to a moment Juliette and George were together on their hideout at the bottom of the cave where he had all the relics, George told her there is a door at the bottom at the end of a tunnel, question is where does this door takes them? out side? problem is its under water and Juliette is scare of water, George says he will go down and be careful but we don't know if he really did, probably that was the thing he wanted to talk about with her before he died, Juliette now in the present decides to go down but she is so scared, the episode ends with her hanging from a rope close to fall in the water.

So far the only thing I don't like is how episodes end with literally people hanging, episodes end with a void for continuation, as I mention this series has so so many details involve on the history of the Silo, George murder, why Holston and Alison decided to go out, there is a huge conspiracy but its too soon to tell even if the Mayor is part of it, just because they are the law doesn't mean they are part of the conspiracy, they could be used by others too,  I cant find anything wrong about this series so far, its great in every aspect, actors, drama, thrill, music, the production looks very sharp with the scenarios, top quality, until now its an 8/10 for me.

  16. Silo : Freedom Day - Episode 1 - Personal Thoughts@skiptvads1140d
    Source
Silo a post apocalyptic TV series where an entire society lives inside a Silo that goes many floors down having all kind of crops necessary to survive, with water and a sustainable environment, Silo has very high scores on review sites like IMDB and RTT, I haven't done any research if this is based on any video game that it actually looks like but it kinda remind me of the game Fallout, the inmates or citizens depending on how you look at it live with a very strict set of rules after all living in a confine space no matter how big it is still difficult to adapt, not many people can overcome this so a strict set of rules with enforcers is necessary but it seems not everything is what it looks like inside the Silo.

I got a great impression from Silo episode one, the production looks great, the music really sets the mood, the cast is great with actors really adding feelings to their character

    • Rebecca Ferguson, from Dune, playing Juliet
    • Rashida Jones, playing Alison Becker
    • David Oyelowo, from Interstellar, playing Sherriff Holston, Alison's Husband
    • Will Patton, from the 90's Armageddon, play Deputy Marnes

and the cast list goes on with a great set of actors, I can really see this becoming a triple A series, it would depend on the script if it doesn't get too boring at times, after all they are lock down on a Silo under ground, it is huge though, from the shots it looks like an entire city every floor, similar to Zion from The Matrix Revolution movie, I have no complains from episode one, releasing two episodes at once seem to be a trend that I think the intention is to have the series stick right from the go, I have mention before that sometimes for me to get hooked I need to watch at least three episodes depending on how good or bad this series is but Silo gets your from episode one.

    RTT: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/silo

    Source

The story gives context at the very scene where Sheriff Holston lock himself up in a cell and then ask to go out, there is this "freedom" within the Silo that anyone who ask to go out wont be stop but I think that's after the "government" the ones who enforce and create the rules made sure to paint a very horror picture of what is outside. He ask to go out and says he should have listen to her and then Alison comes up on the screen before she went out, you don't have to be a genius to see it, she is on some kind of suit and on the same cell, so we immediately know he lost her and wants to be with her again but how if she died? or at least that's what show up on the screen, every screen on the Silo is a mirror of a single camera upstairs at the front entrance of the Silo so its fully underground, this screens are not windows of the Silo.

    Source

    Source

I really like their old computers and the sounds they make remind me of Windows 98, the rules are very strict, this is similar to communism and a bit worst, the Holston's are giving a window of one year to have a baby because all women who can still get pregnant are under a strict birth control with a device they implant inside them, Holston is a man of law and he obey them all as he is the enforcer.

    Source

There is still a small population that remembers or have an idea what the old times look like when they had more freedom, there was this revolution that the Silo Government calls extremest and radical, until now we don't know if that's true, Gloria is part of that old school conspiracy, she believes the Silo Government wants to keep them inside and is not telling them truth, why not all women are giving the chance to get pregnant? why they destroy all books and computers older than hundred and forty years, but she is treated as a fraud.

    Source

Alison been a more wild spirit than his husband thinks people need access to information, she made a post about how to recover lost data but that is not aloud and her boss Bernard remind he of that after he delete the post, Alison works on the IT support section for the Silo and also creates content for their intranet system. Alison talk about this with her husband and immediately without noticing he took his posture as law enforcer and she notice it, for Sheriff Holston the only thing that keeps them together and alive inside the Silo is the law and nothing is above it, not even his wife.

    Source

    Source

Either this was intentional or its just Alison destiny to become part of the rebellion, may be there is a rebellion working in the background and notice Alison, first Gloria ask her for a talk and tells here things like they are listening everywhere and why she couldn't get pregnant that latter on Alison cut herself and took out the real birth control device, then George a local IT guy sends a ticket on a holiday trying to get someone from IT to come down and help him with some task they don't describe but he found what they call a relic, in this case a hard drive older than hundred and forty years that probably has data they shouldn't be look it at because they Silo Government do not allow it.

    Source

At first she was afraid but didn't rat George, just ask him to get rid of it but then the closer she gets to her deadline to get pregnant without success plus Gloria told her why this is, Alison start skipping work reporting sick, stop having sex with her husband after they were doing it like rabbits every time they could after all EVERYONE on the Silo knows when you get the chance to get pregnant, she start visiting George and help him recover the data from the drive, it seems the Rebellion didn't destroy all hard drives, well that's what the Silo Government wants people to think, this is classic on post apocalyptic theme series.

    Source

    Source

Alison knew that Holston wont believe her without proof so she does two things, took a knife and takes out her birth control device and show it to him and then on a moment of desperation after her husband didn't believe her she goes to the main cafeteria and start telling everyone what she believes is the truth, the entire conspiracy theory of the Silo keeping them inside and publicly ask to go out in front of her husband and everyone else in there, after this an investigation starts and they get Gloria and George, I don't know what happens to Gloria but George pivot to another work like and years latter suicide.

    Source

The last time Alison and Holston where together she explain him how everything on the screen is a lie and says that if that's the case that everything is green with clear sky she will clean the camera lens "the screen" but if its not if it is like what they say the she will just walk away and say good bye because she was wrong, this can still be manipulated, no days digital proof can be alter very easy with AI so probably they can do the same.

Holston is heart broken for whats going on, everything that is happening goes against his believes and his job, after all Alison cleans the lens and walk away but the video shows she dies after a few meters, the crowd joins and cheer for her like it was a spectacle, reminds me of the "are you not entertained" from Gladiator.

    Source

After two years George commit suicide but its not clear, there is the possibility he was murder by someone and Sheriffs will investigate, Holston and Marnes go to the morgue to interview the Engineer supervisor of George but she couldn't make it because she was dealing with the Silo generator, so they make her a visit, this is when Holston meets Juliet Nichols, everything change for Holston that day, after grieving his wife for a long time, it was like he finally open his eyes and start listening as he describe it himself.

Its like Apple Tv+ only release AAA series, Silo so far is great, it gives context right away and its full of little details most viewers wont get at first like messages that show up on the computers you have to pause and read closely and Holston also ask Marnes to "Double the flowers in front of the mirror" I'm not sure what it means but for sure will figure out latter on when Marnes or some one else goes after Holston papers, the cast is great I cant ask for a better one plus production and music are very fit to the theme of this series, I give an 8/10 to the first episode, more details about the rebellion is what I really want to know before they reveal the truth of the outside world, I don't think that will happen soon.
